Publisher Accolade has revealed that Bubsy: Paws On Fire! will be coming to Nintendo Switch on 16th May. If you're a super Bubsy fan, you can even pick up a physical copy.
Arguably more famous for being disliked than for his actual games these days, Bubsy is well and truly back in what Accolade is calling "his greatest adventure yet". The publisher has also described this new release as "a game for Bubsy lovers and haters alike", so no matter where you stand on that very particular matter, you might want to check out this feature list to learn more:

no thanks....I don't want it
Good lord that looks... different
Oh hell yes! The announcement I have been waiting for!
So they just reskinned Runner 3 and called it a Bubsy game?
That's a weird angle for their marketing to take. Basically saying, "Hey, we know everyone hates this franchise but here comes more of it!"
I mean if that's the best you can do with it, maybe it's time for a new IP.
"-A shop with costumes and cosmetics, all of which players can unlock just by playing the game. There are no in-game purchases!"
That's a relief! I was really worried that a Bubsy game would have loot boxes! Now that this isn't Bubsy Battlefront 2, this must be an instabuy! What could go wrong?
Man, I'm definitely getting a physical copy of this hospital fire of a game!
@Late
I was thinking the same...
I prefer Earthworm Jim.
I wanted an M rated Bubsy game goshdarnit but now its E rated
0/10 worst game
Give him a break you guys! he has not done something like this since 1993.
oh, and what possibly could go wrong?
Dunkey will have a field day with this.
I feel like the developers of the series enjoy trolling everybody by keeping Bubsy alive.
hmmm...I just watched the digital foundry DF:Retro on this character...very interesting on trying to sell this character.
It seems that April Fools Day Direct may not have been a hoax after all. Yesterday we had leaks of Link to the Past, Persona V and Metroid Trilogy, today we have Bubsy, tomorrow Feeding Vader Simulator?
This actually looks... good? OH MY GOD, THE WORLD IS ENDING!
So that IGN-sponsored Nintendo Direct wasn't too far off base in this instance after all.
To quote Halloween 5 (a sub-par movie by the way), "He'll never die".
I loved hating Bubsy back in my SNES days I don't know if my gaming life has evolved to a point where I can play something I hate and end up loving it.
Bubsy is still dear to my childhood.
Who cares it's a collectors edition so I will get it.
yeah keep milking the meme, accolade !
What could possibly go wrong... Besides everything?
Bubsy is more unkillable than Jason Voorhees.
The hilarious thing about the reboot is that it started off of ironic "lol wouldn't it be hilarious if there were Bubsy fans." These games were meant to be a part of it turning genuine but were bad even in that context. It's basically what Accolade was doing in the 90s now.
I thought this was a late April’s Fool joke. But no, it’s just a regular joke.
Its basically Runner 3: Bubsy edition.
I don't really hate Bubsy. I hate this game specifically.
I am a real Bubsy fan, but I haven't liked the way that Billionsoft has been taking Accolade/Bubsy.
The Woolies Strike Back did not feel like a Bubsy game at all and felt kind of lifeless. Paws on Fire is a runner and I don't care for runners. I may give it a shot once it goes on sale for cheap on Steam, though.
Bubzy really is just Sonic but worse.
Sassy cartoon animal does a thing and the company fails and gets memed to death. But somehow to this day they are still making games.
Due to this, I hope this game is an absolute train wreck rather than the mediocre who cares quality of the last game.
@Galarian_Lassie the line is "what could paws-ibly go wrong?"
@OorWullie Everything is coming to Switch!
Sorry but I'll pass on this as well as I'm not a fan of Runner 3 or any games like that.
Two days ago nobody would have believed it !
It seems odd that they don't mention it's made by Choice Provisions. Bubsy might suck usually, but, Choice Provisions has never made a bad game.
It's... a runner? Made by the devs behind Runner 3? To be fair, that means the gameplay will be as decent as R3, but I was kinda hoping the gameplay from Woollies Strike Back would be refined, yarn collection would be incentivized, there would be more levels and a proper narrative, and a sequel would be made that can be beaten in as little as 3 hours, so people couldn't refund it on Steam.
I guess every popular mascot needs his spin-off games...
@pupypup Well that was a Cat-astrophically missed o-Purr-tunity.
THREE different boss battles????
That's almost FOUR different boss battles!!!
I know Bubsy was called a Mario/Sonic rip off, but I don't understand the hate some have for it. I love platformers and enjoy them, and of course this isn't Mario/Sonic, but not sure if it deserves that hate it gets.
Pilot's license? What for?!
Where's the amiibo?
"What could possibly go wrong?"
The Bit Trip Runner guys are on board. This is actually going to be unironically good.
as a semi-ironic Bubsy fan, I'm optimistic for this. a little overpriced, but I don't have taxes to pay or food to buy (yet) so it really doesn't matter what I spend on.
Best Bubsy games is the first, slightly better on Megadrive but SNES version plays almost as well. Having said that, it's terribly unforgiving, one hit deaths and the like.
And he's any worse than many mascot? At least he seems to be able to wear his hate for his games, unlike Sonic lol
It actually looks pretty decent to me. I liked Runner 3.
No question about it — limited edition physical copy is a day one purchase for me.
I don't know what's more sad; if a selling point of a Bubsy game is that there's no microtransactions or that the industry has gotten to this point where that has to be said.
"I can't wait for this!"
-Said no one ever
Rayman, is that you? I don't know, if I wanted this kind of game, then I would just get Rayman. Not sure what developers are thinking when they make games that too closely mirror AAA offerings.
I will wait for the “Awesome Possum” remaster
I'm not sure "three different boss battles" is a feature you should be proud of regardless of what your game is...
Wow, didn't realize there is so much Bubsy hate. I enjoyed the 1st game on SNES, so I might give this a shot.
I’ll let someone else buy it and upload their gameplay to YT for me to watch before I make a decision on this lol
I can wait for this
@Malcrash honestly, I think if another game tried to replicate Conker's "cute animals swearing" gimmick, it'd make the original Conker less special - Crank the Weasel was cancelled for a reason!
that being said, a mature game staring speaking non-anthro animals in a life-or-death survival situation could actually be pretty cool...
@JediKadabra what could possibly go wrong
This physical is going to be a massive collectors edition as no one is going to buy it
I feel like Jontron single handedly made his revival pawsible.
Is anyone unironically buying these? Someone must be for it to get another one!
How do they have the money to keep this cat alive!?
This looks very much like a Runner game. Given Bubsy hasn't evolved over the years (like Link or Mario) I reckon they should go they way of Sonic Mania and do a classic style. Original Bubsy is why people love and remember before it became a dumpster fire
Why the hell did it haft to Bubsy?
@Anri02 the company funding the new games, Billionsoft, comes from Hong Kong. they own the entire Humungous Entertainment brand (Pyjama Sam, Freddi Fish, e.t.c.) and multiple Atari and Infogrames games so they've probably made a fair share of money from re-releases of those games.
@SmileMan64 I read that Jason Voorhees has been killed by lawyer-mans? Some kind of trademark rights issue.
No such issue with Bubsy.
So when’s the Smash Bros character announcement for Bubsy?
They have Terri and Terry? What are you thinking Choice Provisions? Bubsy 2 wasn't nearly as good as the first.
Can everyone just stop giving this guy publicity? Take it out back and shoot it already...
What could possibly go wrong
Bubsy or not it doesn't look like the kind of game I would enjoy
The jokes sound okay, but I'm not a fan of runners
Reminder. Days Gone is made by the studio that made Bubsy 3D. What could possibly go wrong?
Did anyone ask for this
@Malcrash would it be m rated because of all the horrible things you could do to bubsy?
@KingMike Ah, that lawsuit thing... Dang, if someone fought over the rights to Bubsy, it'd get settled quicker and easier than whatever is happening or will happen regarding the Ft13th franchise.
Bubsy is that terrifying.
No thanks, I’ll pass on this one. I still ache for Sonic Boom 2 and won’t rest until it’s realised.
@waluigifan1 And Nintendo made Star Fox Zero; your point being?
Hey, whatever blows your hair back. Did I mention I don't like heights?
"What could possibly go wrong?"
I had a strange love of Bubsy on the SNES despite it kind of being a buggy mess, couldn’t stop playing it!
Who cares if it's bad? If it doesn't have in-game purchases it's a must buy!
Day one preorder of the special edition here. My nostalgia knows no lows. Loved the last Bubsy.
Though I really hate this game series, I'm glad for your Bubsy fans out there.
... Bubsy for Smash?
Calm down, don't burn me at the stake. I'm only joking.
In all fairness, I think the studio and the franchise are a good match. Runner 3 is a fantastic game if you like that kind of thing, and it’s packed with the acerbic wit, both visual and voice-over, that a new Bubsy game would require.
That being said, Bubsy sucks LOL
They're charging $29.99 for a 2D endless runner? What the hell is wrong with them?
@Octane Crap I posted this on NintendoLife? This was supposed to he on Pushsquare lol. I liked Starfox Zero though.
The hatred for this franchise is so overrated. Yes, Bubsy 3D was a steaming plate of hot garbage, but 1 and 2 were not BAD! They were in the same league as so many other forgettable 2D platformers of the era; one notch below Aero, and a notch above Rocky Rodent.
@BanjoPickles Bubsy has that little something special to put it above the rest, and it gets way more publicity from its detractors than it ever does with advertising. People get to feel better about their tastes by throwing shade at a popular target, and Bubsy’s progenitors (perpetrators?) get to move units. The trolling is built into the product, as with a lot of camp. It’s a win-win!
@Bolt_Strike It's not an endless runner though. They already said there are 140 levels...
@Octane I never thought about those two games at the same time, but my God! The last Bubsy game really was better than Star Fox Zero.
Ok but why though?
I liked the Bubsy games as a kid. This looks trash tier though.
I'm just curious as to why Choice Provisions are working on this.
And no, I'm not hating. It's probably going to be at least moderately good, considering their name is on it, and it's using Runner 3 assets.
But seriously, why? Does it even make sense for them, let alone ANY of the involved parties, to release this? I mean, how many ************* even remember Bubsy, save a handful of us washed-up 90's kids?
Who spear-headed this ****? And what's with the price? Are ya'll kidding me. Did the folks at Choice Provisions drop too much?
I just wish I could've been a fly on the wall within the offices where these talks occurred, just to see what the **** these folks were/are thinking.
(Bad language x 3! Not so lovely. - Matthew010)
I don't see why everyone's complaining. It looks pretty decent for a $10 budget game.
sees price
...Oh.
I hated the bubsy games growing up. Chaotic, broken, sloppy and messy. Pure garbage.
I did enjoy the old SNES version back in the day, could well be more down to Nostalgia than anything else though.
I didn't play the more recent game but heard terrible things about it
My bad Matthew. I forgot that this site is profanity free. I'm surprised my comment wasn't deleted. Anyway, I'm still dumbfounded by how this game is even a thing.
