This actually did happen to me once, and it was the copy of Breath of the Wild I pre-ordered too... I didn't realize the problem until I had already tried inserting the cartridge in and it couldn't read. Thankfully my Switch still seems fine and I haven't encountered that same problem with any cartridges since. But as a first time experience I had with the Switch, it was extremely disappointing.
Though the fact that the plastic strips are actually quite flimsy is very worrisome. I had thought it was just a fluke before.
I'm going to be of the unpopular opinion here, but I think this is neat even as a tribute. There frankly aren't a lot of monster catching RPGs on the indie scene and I'd like that to be explored more.
Little bummed since I bought Earthlock from the eShop back when that first released. But I'm not too bothered about it since securing a copy of these limited physicals is rather difficult.
The black transition was definitely something I noticed in the first cutscene after the train rolled in. It was a little jarring but I shrugged it off since I figured the port wouldn't be super great anyway.
The music bug, while a shame, I can live with. Both of these aren't that very big. As long as there are no actual game-breaking bugs, then it's not a deal breaker for me.
@Heavyarms55 It's why I've been holding out on a few games. Half-Genie Hero I held out for the longest time now, since even straight from the beginning, they said it was eventually going to see physical release and I'm glad I waited. Granted, there's some games that I don't ever expect to go physical or are too small to really bother buying the physical edition (such as the case with Thimbleweed Park), so I go digital with those.
Reading the comments here, is this how Sony and Microsoft fans react when one of their games loses exclusivity?
The only thing I'm bothered at is how these systems are getting exclusive characters, but not the Switch. I'd like to think they would have an update on that front, maybe introduce Mario as a character, but I guess they would've already announced that if that was the case. Otherwise I'm not bothered by ports.
They're blaming the console and not their own expertise, despite the fact that even bigger games such as BotW and Skyrim run near flawlessly on Switch, which is really telling where their thoughts lie. If this is the best that we're getting, then I would hate to see the problems that plagued the earlier versions. I'm concerned that there will be no patch in the foreseeable future.
A shame. At first I wasn't happy over the whole price debacle earlier, but got over it and gave some reconsideration. Now with all these reports of terribly poor performance, I guess I won't be getting this after all. I hope they eventually patch it.
I'd like a physical release of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. I know it's already being published in the middle east, but I'd like a more local physical release here too.
@BetterThanVegas I think if data could be transferable (which I imagine would have been 3DS only), they would have already announced that a long time ago.
The other improvements listed I can live without, even Virtual Console, but the thing I want most is cloud saving. It's essential when cartridges are not writable.
Nice to see that the comment section here has gone down the toilet. I swear these editorials are written purely with the intent to incite arguing in the comments.
Whatever happened to having a civil discourse. Oh wait, that's not possible because this is the internet.
Bandai Namco isn't going to be happy about this. I really hope it does better overseas, along with Pokken and Xenoverse 2. I don't want them jumping ship.
@retro_player_22 "If the Japanese audience can't find a Switch to buy then they won't buy Monster Hunter XX."
People in Japan have admitted to buying games before the console so they would have them on hand. A lack of a console stopped nobody from buying games.
The d-pad is awesome and sounds so much better than the Pro Controller's, but the wired aspect kind of ruins it for me. A shame. I guess I'll just have to deal with the Pro Controller's faults.
@GameOtaku I believe it was mentioned in the book Arts & Artifacts that Nintendo used to go to animation studios and commission them to design and draw artwork for their games. That's why some artwork have a noticeably anime look to them. But there never was a Zelda anime, no.
"The game very much feels like the product of the early 2000s" This is the perfect description for this game's visuals. I agree whole-heartedly. I look at this and almost think I'm looking at an old PC or Xbox game.
It's a shame how badly this product turned out to be. The premise was interesting.
It definitely seems like there is greater support for the Switch than there was for the Wii U. I don't have a very big collection of Switch games right now, but there's definitely some good titles out now and more still yet to come.
Once again, an indie game receiving a lot of bashing in the comments, over a feature that does not even affect most people, of all things.
I don't care for achievements either, but I at least appreciate them for trying to make the Switch version on-par with the rest. Some people actually do like achievements and now they won't miss out here.
I love how there's just so much love being put into this game. It's very much like the good old days of Sonic on Genesis, when there was a lot more care and attention to detail then. I have no doubt that this is a deserved addition to the series, and well worth the wait.
I get so baffled by the amount of hate this game gets. People get excited for this game because it promises to be a BK clone, then get mad because it is a BK clone. Does anyone else see the irony in this.
At the very least, I expect it be better than BK: Nuts and Bolts.
@IceClimbers I definitely agree with you on everything there except for MM Legacy Collection 2 and Disney Collection. Digital Eclipse didn't make a version of the first Legacy Collection for the Wii U. There was an interview once where they were asked why there is no Wii U version, and they completely dodged the question.
I want to believe it's because of lack of dev kits, but something makes me think it's more than that.
To be completely honest, I think people are overreacting. So Capcom decided to create a better, more technically demanding game for the PS4 and are hesitant about localizing a spin-off, is that really worth calling them "dead" or feeling "betrayed"? It's just business as usual.
Don't get me wrong, I've gotten my hopes crushed by Capcom repeatedly over the years. I'm still sore from the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 and numerous other decisions I didn't agree with, but I've since moved on. Especially after seeing Comcept in comparison.
Maybe it's just because I plain don't care about Monster Hunter that I'm not angry over this, but I still think people are overreacting.
@FragRed Still wouldn't be the same Rareware though, considering all its key members who worked on our beloved Nintendo games left the company. Better they purchase Playtonic.
I would personally like another port of Okami, preferably one with optional motion controls. I liked the motion controls for drawing in the Wii port, that was excellent, but performing some of those combo attacks was nigh impossible.
Of all those there, the only one I'm really looking forward to is Monster Hunter Stories. I definitely prefer turn-based RPGs over more complex, action oriented ones, so I think MHS will be a good first entry into the series for me, even if it is a spin-off.
@crimsontadpoles Definitely wait for Psychic Specters then, or even just get Bony Spirits or Fleshy Souls. They've basically the definitive versions of the first game, with new features and improvements. And a much better story.
In the same light though, I do also appreciate the simplicity of the first game and have been playing more of that. But YKW2 might be a safer entry.
Well that's just sad. A part of me was hoping that the Odyssey remake or maybe even the Exodus remake would come to Switch. I guess not though. A shame, since I loved the Oddworld games.
I would love it if the series could return to its series roots. I question over whether they will take that assertion seriously if it does sell well and has good reception, but it's a nice thought.
I can see why it looks unappealing and ugly, and I fail to see the point of why they did that when there was nothing wrong with the old one, but the backlash over it as a little much. It still plays the same.
@Exy Audience trumps practicality. Sega, and other game companies that port onto mobile, doesn't care that mobile phones are not ideal for playing games. They just care about the enormous audience that uses them. That's where the money is.
I don't understand why people keep bashing stability updates. After the first few stability updates were released, my system's wifi connection improved where I could actually stay connected to download other updates. So yes, I welcome stability updates if they improve issues like that.
As for this update, it's great. Definitely a step in the right direction.
On the Switch side of things, I'm most looking forward to Mario Odyssey and Sonic Mania (although I'm considering just getting that off of Steam). For 3DS, definitely Monster Hunter Stories.

I didn't pre-order mine. Simply went in to EB Games on launch day and was able to secure a copy. But I'm sure there's stock issues in Canada now.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)
"It is perhaps unsurprising that an awful lot of the content here is exactly the same as in the original titles"
Pass, then. I absolutely loathed Sun/Moon and having to go through every section I hated a second time does not appeal to me.

Odyssey is great, but it didn't have quite a spectacular impact on me as Super Mario Sunshine did.

Re: Join The Hunt With Monster Hunter Stories' Latest Western Trailer
@Ryu_Niiyama From what I understand, Stories bombed hard in Japan.

Re: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Heading to the West in 2018
@bitleman And yet the Switch version was still announced to begin with. If Sony did purchase exclusivity, they would have never announced that.
In all likelihood, DQXI has been in development for awhile and they're only just NOW starting on the Switch version.
Re: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Heading to the West in 2018
@bitleman DQXI wouldn't have come to 3DS if that were true.
