Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Pokémon Direct and Its Big Reveals?

Reginald

I'm kind of 'meh' about it, honestly. I didn't really like Sun/Moon all that much, so Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon still don't really interest me, although I had been expecting a single third version. I think I may actually give these two a pass, even with the new storyline and extras.

Pokken Tournament I don't care for either. In the end, only the GS ports were of any real interest to me, but not by much.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Is Only 20 To 30 Percent Complete

Reginald

I'm seeing far too many people here saying that taking their time will make the game better.

While that may be true in many aspects, I can't help but be reminded of the numerous delays Mighty No. 9 experienced and how, at the very end, it was still a very poorly delivered product. With that said, I do think there should still be caution.

Re: Harvest Moon: Light of Hope to Brighten Up the Nintendo Switch

Reginald

@wiggleronacid
If you want to play Harvest Moon, look into the older games. Back to Nature and Friends of Mineral Town are fan favorites, but I also liked Harvest Moon 64 too.

Just avoid The Lost Valley, Seeds of Memories and Skytree Village, as those are "Harvest Moon" games that Natsume decided to make themselves after they lost the localization rights to the actual games. The real series is being continued under the name Story of Seasons.

Or just go with Stardew Valley, as KirbyTheVampire suggested. Stardew is incredibly good and offers a lot.

Re: Sinking Keiji Inafune’s Kaio: King of Pirates Cost Marvelous $3.8 Million Dollars

Reginald

It's rather unfortunate. I actually really liked Inafune back when he was still with Capcom, and was especially a fan of his artwork which became an inspiration to my own work, and still am actually. I still kind of like him to a degree, but I definitely do agree that his management at Comcept has been one disaster after another.

I've heard of Kaio before, but had no idea its costs totaled that high. That's pretty disappointing. Guess it kind of shows that he kind of needed Capcom. But it's no secret that he hated his job there too.

Re: Harvest Moon: Light of Hope to Brighten Up the Nintendo Switch

@DragonbornRito "If they can come close to replicating that same feel, this game has the potential to take the farm-life sim genre back from ConcernedApe."

I would not put too much faith into this game. Ever since Natsume lost the localization rights and stubbornly clung onto the name, the name has become a former shadow of itself. The last few they made have been incredibly disappointing. I wish Marvelous just bought the name from them so they could continue using it.

Re: Playtonic Writer Reflects on Yooka-Laylee’s Performance

Reginald

The more and more I hear negative feedback regarding Kickstarter games and other games with transparent development, especially in regards to what it "could" have been, the more convinced I am that transparency in game development isn't worth it.

I was around when Mega Man Legends 3 had its Devroom, around during the raise and fall of Mighty No. 9, and around with Yooka-Laylee, and every time I see this same sort of thing happen. Promising things and keeping fans updated with developmental progress just poises for hopes raised and disappointment.

I feel like this is a case where the less you know, the better. What you don't know won't hurt you. Ignorance is bliss. The fact is that all games see major changes and cancellation of plans in their development, but people are generally never told of this and thus it does not affect them (as much).

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

Reginald

I exclusively play it as a portable, around the house, mind you. The benefits to portability outweigh the console mode for me. I can play it anywhere in the house, and the fact that I don't have to tie it down to a television means that I don't have to share it with my younger brother who gets very aggressive when frustrated.

I don't take it outside with me, however.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Nintendo Switch eShop Games of 2017 - Spring Edition

Reginald

I'm most looking forward to Yooka-Laylee. I would also be with Stardew Valley, but I got impatient and got it on Steam, and I think I prefer it on PC anyway.

I was also interested in Rime, until I saw the stark pricing. If there is ever a sale or if I find a discounted used copy, then I may get it then. Granted I'm the person who also paid full price for Super Bomberman R, so eh.

Re: Feature: The Growing Pains of Curation on the Nintendo Switch eShop

Reginald

All I'm hearing from these indies' complaints is a lot of whining. I will agree that Nintendo is not perfect and being hypocritical with their "no ports" policy, but being refused for any reason is just business as usual. And as people here already pointed out, I'd much rather quality indie games be released in a gradual rate as opposed to a slew of shovelware games.

Although in the end, that probably doesn't matter so much to me. I do not look through the eShop for any games that might interest me. Everything I hear about is over the internet, and once I've made my decision, I will specifically search for it.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Reginald

I am honestly surprised they didn't announce a port of SSB4 during the initial live presentation. It seemed almost like a no brainer, especially with the amiibo figures they have yet to release. I still think it is likely we will see a port, or at least some sort of "deluxe" version of it.

As much as I am tired of Hyrule Warriors, I wouldn't mind another port of it, with all DLC and extras from the original and 3DS port on-cartridge. Although I'm sure they would add more DLC to that if they did.

Re: Team Behind Wii U Emulator, CEMU, Makes Surprising Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Reginald

It absolutely boggles my mind that this website continues to post news updates about rather dubious projects. It's like painting a giant red bullseye on them for a cease and desist.

Though given the nature of how they are funding this and using a major game launched only this month, they probably do deserve one. I understand the need for preserving games, but it is far too early to be doing that for this such game.

Re: Poll: One Week On - How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

Reginald

My hype for it honestly died shortly after I got the Switch, and only because of the problems I immediately faced with it. Finding your pre-ordered cartridge of BotW was damaged and that the console had a terrible time connecting to the internet to receive the update made me a sad Reggie.

It's not so bad now though, now that I've got my cartridge replaced and finally got the two updates. I'm fine with BotW for awhile, but I am also kind of miffed at how much more costly digital games are where I live.

Re: Feature: We Grade the Various Nintendo Switch Launch Complaints from the Web

Reginald

Honestly, I'm surprised that the Switch's apparent abysmal wifi connection wasn't one of the complaints listed. I guess it isn't as widespread as I thought it was, but I and a quite a few others have been having problems with this.

When I want to connect to the internet, I have to more or less sit right next to the router to be able to get full wifi strength and to connect — and I know that it isn't my router, because other people have expressed similar issues to mine, and even my original model 3DS has a far superior connection. It's incredibly disappointing when an older device has a better, and faster, connection than the latest console.

And even when I do sit right next to the router, the majority of the time, the console is unable to connect to the server due it apparently being too busy. I'm not able to download the BotW update because, even when I do manage to connect, it shortly cuts out anyway. I'm sure it's probably just traffic and will die down eventually, but it is a bit disconcerting, especially seeing as there are a number of future games that will be exclusive to the eShop that I would like to get.

But either way, the fact that I have to sit right next to the router sucks the joy out of online games for me.

Re: Video: Here's Your First Look At The Nintendo Switch eShop

Reginald

@SLIGEACH_EIRE That doesn't make a whole lot of difference, though. Even porting classic games to a new console requires tweaking, some optimization, and testing. It's not a smooth process by any means, and to think so is just being naive.

I mean yeah, I would love it if all of the Wii U or 3DS Virtual Console games were available on Switch on VC's day one, but that is a very unrealistic expectation and just wishful thinking. I don't expect it to happen whatsoever.
