Re: Actraiser Renaissance Hits Nintendo Switch Later Today

Refurin

I've been dying for this game to hit Switch ever since we got the SNES library with Nintendo Online. A fully rebuilt remaster? They could have shown nothing else and the direct still would have blown me away. I've already finished Fillmore. Can't wait to play more tomorrow. It's everything I loved about the SNES game but better and there's more. I still can't believe this is real.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

Refurin

Controversial opinion, but Samus Returns is a better game than Super Metroid. I'm playing the 2d games in chronological order to get ready for Dread. So far I beat Zero Mission and Samus Returns (because the remakes are better than the originals) and now I'm partway through Super. Going from those games with the improved controls into Super Metroid just highlights how comparatively clunky a game it is. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on NES, Gameboy and SNES. I played Super Metroid a ton. I love the music, the ambience, the story telling. But from a strictly game play point, Samus Returns has better controls and was just more fun to go through. Super Metroid was great in it's time, but that doesn't make it better than stuff that has come out since. It definitely needs a remake to get it to the same level as Zero Mission and Fusion at least.

Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'

Refurin

There aren't enough facepalm gifs in the world for how dumb this is. The hybrid feature is a HUGE part of why Switch is hands down my favorite console. There are games I love on my PS4, but even when I'm playing them I'm lamenting that they're not available on the Switch. Being able to play on my TV at home, and them grab my Switch to bring with me and continue THE SAME GAME when I'm away from home is freaking amazing.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp And Fire Emblem Heroes Are Being Shut Down In Belgium

Refurin

I've long felt that internet connectivity the worst thing to happen to video games.

It let publishers get lazy and rush out unfinished games with a "we can patch it later" mentality.

It let them nickel and dime customers by relegating content that was traditionally part of a game's original cost to "paid DLC". Modern fighting games are an excellent example of this as they lock characters and costumes behind a paywall rather than unlocking them through normal play. Further, that extends to the free to play games with micro-transactions. Little Johnny's parents may be more inclined to agree to the frequent requests to spend $10 on a microtransaction than they would be to spend $60 on an entire game. This shifts the emphasis away from quality games onto whatever can grab peoples' attention (and money) for some large short term gains.

It eroded the social aspect of gaming. Fewer games feature local multiplayer as the emphasis turned towards online functionality.

So yeah, rock on Belgium. I hope more countries follow suit. Moving away from this micro transaction - loot box - pay2win - paying constantly for a service instead of one time for a game - nonsense goes away. I mean, surely most players realize the only ones helped by that kind of structure are the corporations raking it in hand over fist. It does no favors for us as customers.

Re: Random: Prince Harry Thinks Fortnite Should Be Banned

How bout we don't encourage the government telling parents what we can or can't let our children do? I am baffled that my son wants to play Fortnite so often rather than the games I've actually bought for him, but if that's how he wants to game, I let him game. I don't worry about him being addicted though because "gasp!" I parent and make sure he also gets time outside and time with books etc.

Re: Review: Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid - A Promising Fighter Undone By Publisher Greed

Refurin

I absolutely loved fighters when I was a kid. SFII coming out on the SNES (so I could play it without my parents driving me to the arcade and putting in a ton of quarters) was a cause for excitement. Dead or Alive 3 being an Xbox exclusive was actually why I went to Microsoft's console back in the day having grown up on Nintendo before switch to Sony for the PS 1 and 2. Somewhere along the line though, the genre lost me hard. Instead of having to play the game for hours to unlock new fighters and/or costumes, those unlocks were now behind paywalls. It seems like this game is guilty the same things that killed the joy I used to find in these games. I really really dislike that DLC and microtransactions are here to stay. I miss buying a game and that being it.

TLDR; Get off my lawn you rotten kids

Re: Rumour: Multiple Online Listings Suggest Assassin’s Creed III Is Coming To Switch

Refurin

I loved the series for 1 and the Ezio trilogy. Three was a huge let down, Rogue was alright. Unity was good but the glitches and the irksome online missions ruined the experience for me. Syndicate was ok. Origins was where I decided I was over the series. I had to force myself to finish it and felt it was a waste of my time. I still haven't finished Black Flag because the boats are the worst thing in the entire series.

Re: Random: Former American President Barack Obama Doesn't Care About Pokémon, So Go And Vote

Refurin

As broken as our system is, and as ineffective as voting can often feel, it is important to get out and vote, even if it is only between the lesser of two evils. If voting doesn't matter, than why are Republicans trying SO HARD to take away people's right to vote all around the country? (ie, North Dakota restrictions which are going to heavily affect Native American voters)

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

Refurin

@Realnoize
Amazon selling things at a loss is bad for Nintendo, other retailers, and, ultimately, consumers. If Amazon sells it for less, which they can do because they can afford to absorb the losses, consumers end up shopping there to save some money, and eventually other retailers close up shop since they were unable to compete with Amazon's aggressive pricing. Then, when Amazon has cleared the field, they can charge however the hell much they want above the MSRP because there is no competition. Amazon has gotten too big. Probably my only problem with Nintendolife.com is their frequent "articles" that are just links to different Amazon Product Listing pages.

EDIT:
Didn't realize Majora101 had already said the same thing. Also, you said it much better than I, so kudos to you

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Has Exceeded Expectations Following Strong Sales Outside Of Japan

Refurin

@aznable

If you have a choice between Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or either I am Setsuna or Lost Sphere, choose XBC2. The other two attempt to pay homage to old school JRPGs but the end results were merely shallow and pale imitations. XBC2 on the other hand was an amazing ride and I look forward to having time to tackle the DLC.
Octopath I haven't gotten to pick up yet, but I am optimistic based on what I've read/watched and the bit of time I spent on the demo.

Re: Guide: The Best Metroid Games - Every Metroid Game Ranked

Refurin

Can't agree with any list that puts the Prime games above the 2D. I'll take the classic 2D forumla over a FPS wearing Metroid clothes anyway. Much as I love Super Metroid, I personally think Zero Mission was better for the improved controls/abilities (still need to play Fusion) so may enjoy that one even more. All of them pale in comparison to Samus Returns though. That game isnt just a perfect Metroid game, it is a damn near perfect video game.

Re: Square Enix's Bravely Default Twitter Account Is Teasing New Games Again

Refurin

I'm surprised to see so many people saying they're done with their 3DS. There are still so many games on the 3DS that I'm looking forward to playing or replaying. I'm constantly wanting Switch ports of Wii-U games so I can eventually get rid of the Wii-U (basically only keeping it for the Zelda games at this point) but I feel no similar need to replace my 3DS.

Re: Square Enix's Bravely Default Twitter Account Is Teasing New Games Again

Refurin

@Lizuka
The second one was harder for me to get into than I would have liked. I was initially very disappointed in it. Early 2015 was just let down city for me with games. Bravely Second and Fire Emblem Fates were two hugely anticipated games for me and neither lived up to my own internalized hype. After a long time away from it I gave it another go, got past the part that had irked me initially and ended up thoroughly enjoying the game about as much as I loved the first one. FE Fates is still nowhere near as good as Awakening or Echoes.

Re: Review: Code Of Princess EX (Switch)

The original was one of the biggest disappointments for me on the 3DS. It had a lot that I like, but certain elements just held it back hard. Doesn't sound like any of my issues with it were fixed for this. What a shame.

Re: Poll: Surprise! A New Zelda Is In Development, But What Do You Want From It?

Refurin

I'll buy whatever. I trust Nintendo. My daughter is nine and just this weekend was like "I'm gonna beat OoT again" and just went start to end like it was nothing. My kids are hooked on Zelda probably even more than I am, so even if only for them, I'll buy each and every new Zelda title Nintendo provides.

THAT SAID, much as I grew to appreciate (or at least accept) the breaking equipment thing, the Master Sword should have been exempt from that right out of the gate without the trial. I also wish there had been a little more to the story. I loved piecing together the jumbled cut scenes to learn what had happened, but I was left wanting more. So, if they do something similar to BotW, please tweak the experience a smidge.
