Being a family of gamers with four 3DSes and four Switches, my biggest problem with DLC is the fact that it can't be shared the same way a game card can. So while we may be able to get away with buying a $60 Breath of the Wild once, that isn't the case with the Season Pass since it's tied to the profile, not the cartridge. Instead of getting used to/learning to accept DLC, the more time that passes with DLC being part of the video game market, the less I like it. So I hate myself every time I buy any of it, such as the recent Season Pass for Fire Emblem Warriors.
Is local multiplayer an option or is this going to be strictly online? I've already got three copies of Splatoon 2 to play with my family. I don't plan to repeat that to play Doom with my wife.
Actraiser is one of my favorite games. If that had been on the SNES it would have been even more exciting to own. I mean, I'm thrilled with it anyway, but yeah there are a few other SNES games I'd have loved to see included.
Was able to get one at Target for myself, one at Best Buy for one friend and one at TRU for another friend. No pre-orders, no midnight line up, just going around opening. Each of those stores got about 80 units. I was not a fan of the guy in line with me who was buying his 6th and bragging about scalping every one of them to take advantage of the people who would pay out the nose to get them as Xmas gifts.
Mine came in last night and it really is so so so very good. I can not over-emphasize how much you need to play this game with good headphones on. The soundtrack really helps pull you in to the atmosphere/setting.
@Anti-Matter What brought me back to Nintendo was primarily the ability to play games with my kids. Growing up being able to play games on the same couch with my friends, I really dislike the modern trend towards online-only multiplayer. I didn't really take much note of it before the kids because I was just gaming for myself. But then when they came along, I had all these games that would have been so fun to play with my kids but they were all only online. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario 3D world, etc etc... there are so many games that I can play on one TV and have that experience that I did in the late 80s/ early 90s. Splatoon is the only one we can't all do on one system, but at least with the Switches we can sit around playing together in one room.
Breath of the Wild ALONE made the system worth buying. Add in Mario Kart and the upcoming Fire Emblem Warriors and I know that by the end of the year I'll have spent enough hours with it that I'll feel I've already gotten my money's worth out of the system.
I was raised on NES/SNES/GB. I moved over to PSX and then the X-Boxes in High School / College. I missed out on the whole N64/Gamecube/Wii/DS period. It was the 3DS and Wii-U that brought me back to Nintendo and I'm glad to be with the Switch from the get-go. I traded my Xbox One in for a Switch for my daughter (we're up to four Switches; mine, my wife's, my daughter's, and my son's) and I don't miss having it at all.
Until the pricing structure of mobile games changes from Free+micro-transactions to one-and-done purchases, I'm not going near them. No resources over time, no paying micro fees to have more resources sooner, let me just buy a game and play it when I have time at my own pace. Good thing I've got my N2DSXL ever at hand.
There's already four in my house (wife, son, daughter, myself) so I guess we're doing our part to make Switch a success. It's a huge hit with all of us.
Just downloaded Sonic Mania last night and already I regret it. To be fair, I shouldn't be surprised since that is always my response to Sonic games. They LOOK incredibly fun but once you start playing it's just periods of occasionally interacting with the poorly done platforming that interrupts the forward motion of the game. Or maybe it's the forward momentum parts that interrupt the poorly done platforming sections. I'm really not sure. It's fun-ish, as Sonic games tend to be, but they always make me want to play a better game (a Mario or a Mega-Man).
I loooove Warriors games. I'll take as many Awakening characters (plus Camilla from Fates) on this one as I can get. I'm even still kind of hoping for a Hyrule Warriors Switch version.
I've wanted a game-card slot cover on my 3DS since my first model. That feature alone is enough for me to switch over from my N3DSXL. I never use the 3D functionality so losing that is no problem for me.
For $12, this game has been pretty fun. I've more or less left off downloading games (I'd much prefer sticking to physical) but this is one of those rare instances where I didn't regret the purchase.
My wife and I are loving the series and can not wait for more. While I kind of wish the language and gore wasn't so extreme, it by no means is turning me off the show. It does make me wish we could have an anime for Lords of Shadow. That was hands down one of the best video game stories I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I've genuinely never understood the hate it gets (even if LoS2 was a major let down).
Samus returns and Fire Emblem Warriors were the only games to get me really excited. I genuinely liked what Nintendo showed, I just didn't feel that they revealed enough. Still, I'm happier with their reveals than any of the news to come out of the other gaming companies.
I didn't much care for it. Maybe if I was able to just try out local play with my kids I would have enjoyed it more than online play. The kids liked it so maybe when there's a sale or they have a gift occasion coming up.
I'm conflicted on the season pass. I want to play all the maps/dungeons/stories. Give it to me now. Bwahaha etc. If this was a home console game on the Wii-U or Switch I'd drop money on the Season pass in an instant. I find myself more hesitant due to it being on the 3DS.
The difference is that while my children and I each have our own personal 3DS, the home consoles are the family consoles. We just have one that we all share so DLC purchased for a game is accessible to all of us. When it comes to the 3DS systems, we tend to just get one cartridge and share it between systems since the kiddos like to try my games. I'd happily have paid $45 for a second cartridge with all this stuff on it to share with the kids, but having it tied to one system/account means I'd have to either buy it multiple times, let them play on my system, or tell them "sorry no DLC for you".
On a slightly unrelated note, when we got Mario Maker 3DS my daughter started playing it on her 3DS. When it was my turn to play it, the game tells me it can only have save data attached to one account. It absolutely refused to open up the game on my system unless I deleted my daughter's progress. I wish there was some better way for Nintendo to handle the accounts and data for 3DS systems in the case of families with multiple hand-helds.
@Gridatttack No problem. I've been neurotically rechecking the Bestbuy and Gamestop listings for weeks in the hopes of it going back up and was thrilled to see it available again.
I absolutely love the 3DS. Even now that I have the Switch, it remains my favorite system. That said, I don't like the whole 3D thing and always turn it off. So given the right LE version, and provided there are still plenty of great new games to be added to the library, I'd buy a N2DSXL.
I couldn't get past the intro for Yooka Laylee. The sound effect voices for the characters made me want to put my controller through my TV. My fond memories of Rare titles were all on the SNES with DK Country and Killer Instinct, so having never played Banjo Kazooie I guess I had no pre-attachment to this style of game. But man, I found it god awful annoying. So much so that it was unplayable to me.
@gardevoir7 Speaking as someone who only came into the series with Awakening and fell in love with that game, Fire Emblem Birthright and Conquest were deeply disappointing. I doubt I'll ever try the older FE games (because no thanks Permadeath) but Awakening is solidly in my top 5 3DS games
I haven't touched it in months. Pokemon Go was a weird beast. It wants me to play a game, but it also wants me to go outside and explore. I feel like it defeats the purpose of both of those activities. A real game I can experience regardless of where I turn it on, Pokemon Go I can't play unless there are Pokemon or stops around. Going outside and exploring can be nice and enjoyable, but what is the point if my face is in my phone the whole time trying to catch or battle whatever? I tried to support Nintendo's mobile gaming experiment with Pokemon Go, Fire Emblem, and Mario; but honestly, I recently deleted all the gaming apps from my phone. The mobile gaming industry is all throw away software that tries to make money in the moment before people without attention spans move on to the next thing. I'll stick with my dedicated gaming systems.
The selection is a bit bare bones, but that doesn't bother me right now simply because no matter what other games I have available to play (I've got "I am Setsuna" "Super Bomberman R" and "Blaster Master Zero"), I end up just playing more Zelda. I absolutely adore the 3DS but the Switch is my new favorite system just on the merits of its versatility. I would like to see Streetpass brought over to it along with Virtual Console and such. Yes I see room for improvement but it's already pretty great.
@RedMageLanakyn It doesn't give a Hylian Shield every day. I've used my Zelda amiibo almost every day since getting the game and still don't have the shield.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard "hey when does Hyrule Warriors come out for the 3DS again?" Absolutely worth the $40. Now if Nintendo could just put out Splatoon for the 3DS she would be one very happy camper.
So close to pre-ordering this for my daughter, but I still can't understand why it has both pre-installed. If it had come with download codes instead, you could download one game and give the other to a friend/family member so you could trade. Instead you'll just have two games on your console that won't be able to trade between one another. Makes no sense to me. I'm hoping they announce a Pokemon Z this year and release a New special 3DS bundle that I can pick up for my daughter instead.
