It's not exactly been a secret, courtesy of multiple rating listings, early retail pages and the appearance of official art, but Castlevania Advance Collection is indeed coming to Switch eShop. In fact, it may on the eShop by the time you read these words, as it's one of those lovely 'out shortly after the presentation' moments from today's Nintendo Direct.
This is a rather nice follow-on to Castlevania Anniversary Collection of course, which previously brought various other entries to the Switch. The Advance Collection is focused primarily on the highly regarded Game Boy Advance trilogy of titles - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (2001), Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (2002), and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (2003). As a nice extra it also throws in Castlevania: Dracula X (Vampire's Kiss in Europe), so once again that's a lot of Castlevania to dig into.
M2 has been on board to do the port work, and features include rewind, button mapping, a music player, artwork, and copies of each regional variation of the games.
Are you planning to pick up Castlevania Advance Collection?

Very good games indeed. Circle of the Moon is the only one I've not 100%, and may be my favourite despite how good Aria of Sorrow is.
Waiting for it to pop up on the e store love the castlevania series.
It’s sad that this was the big news in the direct.
@sixrings this and Kotor
Yessss Best Castlevania games here we goooooooooooooo!
Rather have had Rondo than Dracula X and by the same token Symphony. Instead we get the red headed step child of the Castlevania games! And still Legends is nowhere to be seen.
It's a shame the surprise was somewhat spoiled but it's still cool. Kind of neat they threw an extra game in there even if it's not the best one, Dracula X has been rather unavailable before.
@sixrings u must not have watched it then
I'll definately get the LRG of this. Those GBA games are so expensive now. Next up would be NDS collection!
I will be playing Aria immediately
thats cool, and Im going to get it, but Id rather have a collection of the DS games, or a collection of the 3D n64 & PS2 games
Can never have too much Castlevania. I'll definitely pick this up at some point.
SAME DAY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This was a very good Direct. And an instant drop of classic Castlevanias doesn't disappoint
Put it on already wanna buy it now
I cannot wait to dive into Aria. I remember playing that game religiously back in the day.
Also, it is ridiculous to constantly see people complaining about the content announced and released from the (entire) Direct. Good lord, the amount of entitlement I see from gamers these days is insane.
I still have that 2 in 1 GBA cartridge of Castlevania, complete in box, mint, bought it for maybe 10 euro's in a bargain bin back in the day. Same way I got Ikaruga on Gamecube for 5 euro's, and Doshin for 1.
@sixrings What direct did you watch? There were so many blockbuster announcements for fans of all kinds!
@sixrings get a new hobby
For some reason I've been really interested in the Castlevania franchise but I've yet to find a game in the series I like. Symphony of the Night was fun for the first half but then it got tedious. Anybody know if any of these games are like SotN but corrects some of the problems?
I will be buying this.
I’ll wait patiently for a physical release.
so... physical version is where? hopefully not with Limited Run Games again 😞
@Expa0
It’s on new 3ds VC. So it’s very much available.
@GameOtaku Dracula X is still more well-regarded than Legends, lol.
Yeap will be marathon play this during the weekend.
What is a difference between Dracula X and Rondo of Blood?
@Purgatorium The three GBA games (Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance) are all pretty much just like SotN. Lots of discovery, backtracking, leveling up, gaining new abilities and opening up new paths.
Can't say if the new games "fixed the problems" because I don't know what you found to be a problem, but if you're not a fan of those types of games in general (Metroidvanias), then I can't promise you'll like these.
The good news is that Konami games go on sale often enough for about 50 percent off, so don't feel like you have to jump right in if you decide to give them a try.
@BlackenedHalo Dracula X was a butchered "port" of Rondo for the SNES. Many of the same elements but mostly new (and poorly designed, by most accounts) levels. And no CD audio, of course.
Castlevania 3 of the best games out there
Wonder if they will be able to port the ds versions at thay just as good
@Ralizah
It’s literally the (non-canon) origin of Castlevania! It deserves a far more respect than the chewed up and regurgitated Dracula X.
@Darkyoshi98 There’s lots of ultra picky gamers who come here after every direct and say this about everything they’re not interested without fail. I’ve watched them do it for years. Nothing will ever be good enough
@Nerdfather1 Agreed. People seem to never be pleased and it’s kind of sad. I thought the Direct was amazing because there were several games I’m excited about, including this collection and Disco Elysium. Still refreshing the eShop the collection drops!
uhh, physical?
@CharlieGirl I'm with you
there was talk about copy was going up for sale at play Asia but right it has gone
Might be worth keeping an eye out there
@Aurumonado yup. Wait 2 more years for the NDS collection
@Tsuchinoko Nice thing to tell people off who don't share the same interests as you do. It's almost like they have different tastes then others do or higher expectations.
@burninmylight Thanks for that. I may check this out. It's hard to explain "the problems" with SotN, or rather my problems with it. I just hoped saying "the problems" would get some recognition. I just felt that the game was bloated and fell apart when you got to the inverted castle. The inverted castle seemed to lack any design and felt sloppy. So yeah, curious if subsequent games are tighter, but I dunno. I know people love SotN and might not have had the same issues with it that I did.
Castlevania X in Japan has uncensored blood when Richter dies in game. You're welcome.
@faint Almost every Direct has begun having similar games that they often showcase and some people are not interested.
Games like a port of an already existing game on a different console, a typical JRPG, a showcase of some games Nintendo already showed off before but decided they need to show again in this Direct to fill up time, content updates for already released games, indie games that already have their own Direct but some are put into this main one, etc.
Point is, that telling people to be excited for stuff they already seen or are not interested in is pretty childish.
"Like and consoom the product or you are not allowed to have an opinion on this forum or allow any discourse."
@dustinprewitt The DS games are definitely coming as well
Hour one buy. Bring the rest of the Castlevanias to the Switch please Konami. Hopefully, Konami's exclusivity for SOTN and Rondo with Sony is a timed one, so that it could be pushed to the Switch soon...
@P3nguinpris0N I agree - this Direct was fantastic and had a lot of great announcements. The Castlevania Advance Collection and Actraiser has dropped on the eShop, so I’m definitely gonna have a good night. I can’t believe people thought this direct was disappointing.
These were my favourite Castevania games. I'm so ready to dig into these again.
This is amazing I am beyond excited!!
Wait, is this collection hitting Switch first and then other platforms or is it Switch only?
M2 does a good job with port stuff. Definitely getting.
Looked great in the Direct and I’ll be patiently awaiting a physical release. Hopefully not on LRG though, as it would be nice to play these before 2023 😅
@anoyonmus It'll be out on Steam, as well. I think I'm gonna grab it there first, since I know that will work 100%. Super disappointed that it was the SNES Dracula X, and not the PCE one.
@BloodNinja ah well.
Hoping NintendoLife can review the Switch version ASAP
@Purgatorium
I'd say order of ecclesia it has multiple areas rather than just one big castle.
It's a nice collection. €20 is a bit steep though. But yeah, I still bought the game. GBA Castlevania where my second to favorites. All I need now is the DS games on Switch.
@BloodNinja It's on Switch, Steam, XBOX ONE / Series S|X, PS4 / PS5. See: https://www.konami.com/games/castlevania/advance_collection/us/en-us/
Awesome!
…Gonna wait for a price drop like the last one, but still awesome!
@Purgatorium Order of Ecclesia for the DS. Starts off kind of pedestrian and there are “side quests” - but the game gets this absolutely lovely boost of difficulty when it gets to its destination. It’s my favourite Castlevania, but I’m also a big fan of the series in general.
So excited to play these! I missed these games when they came out.
@sanderev oh so for everyone? Good.
I can’t believe it’s only $20. I cannot believe it.
Looks solid, I'll check it out. But what we also need is a Metroid Advance Collection. C'mon Nintendo.
@Toshiro_Baloney @Optimist80 Two recommendations for Order of Eccelesia.Thank you both. I'll check it out.
@GameOtaku I'm one of those weirdos that perfer Dracula X and considering it has never been re-released I'M HYPED! That and Rondo has been re-released three times once on Wii (discontinued), then as a bonus on the PSP version of Dracula X Chronicles (what a misnomer consider it is a remake of Rondo and not Drac X) and then on PS4. I'm sure Rondo and Symphony will come to Switch... BUT DUDE DRACULA X!!!! I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND $200 TO REPLAY DRACULA X!
https://youtu.be/SzrvBANyArs
M2 was the name I wanted to read here. Take my money.
Definitely I'll pick it at the first sale.
Already ordered! Can't wait to dive in. I only played a little of aria but neither of the other Two. Looks like bravely default 2 is being put on the back burner for a little bit
I will 100% get this. Not now but soon I will buy this.
@nintendolife hope the review comes out soon
@Wexter one day SOTN will be on Switch.
But for now, we can enjoy the Advance Collection AND the Anniversary Collectoin
@Deady Castlevania Anniversary Collection is also $20.
Regardless, both collections are at great value
I'll get it when it's 50% off. I still have the originals and have too many other games to play.
@Wexter
Again it’s on 3ds vc.
@sanderev Thank you
@anoyonmus Actually, I might just say screw it and get the Switch version tonight. I'm itching for another Aria speedrun!
@GameOtaku Fair... but that is only for New 3DS which I do not own so... WOOO HOOOO I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND $200 TO REPLAY DRACULA X! HYPPPPPPEE!!!
@BloodNinja switch is perfect for games like this. After all, all 4 of these Castlevania games released originally on Nintendo hardware
@anoyonmus Very true, I just wish it was Chi no Rondo and not the SNES garbage, I hate that version it's so bad!!!
Ooh M2 handled these? Nice, will get on sale. (As opposed to not at all since I don’t like castlevania.)
Imagine if they made HOD not look and and sound like a bootleg game.
@BloodNinja oh well. At least the 3 GBA games are better. Aria of Sorrow especially which imo is probably the best Castlevania game released on a Nintendo platform.
I believe the best castlevania games is probably a tie between SOTN and AoS
@anoyonmus I agree completely, though I have a soft spot for Chronicles, it’s just so good.
Good god, the gallery images of the box and manual art are direct scans with beautiful beautiful damage. I love it
Me ranting about switch online for not have a Gameboy/Advance games. Me about to download this faster then Sonic on a better day.
@BloodNinja well, I told you it would happen in the direct.I literally expected this to be announced in the direct but what I DIDN'T expect was that it was releasing TODAY. The ratings, the cover art AND just this morning before the initial announcement there was an ESRB rating (If you don't know what the ESRB rating is, it is the USA ratings board)
Direct: check out these collections
Me: I sure hope one of them is Castlevania Advance Collection
Direct: Castlevania Advance Collection!
My friend: well there ya go!
Me: downloads as soon as it was available
@anoyonmus Also, how come nobody is mentioning that Diablo II came out today? That's where my money's going, Castlevania can wait until a physical release!
@ogo79 The first game is the only one that heavily depends on the touch screen, but the rom has already been hacked to no longer need it. it's the definitive way to play that version. It also fixes the glaring bug where your luck stat has no effect on your soul collection, which is a god send.
@BloodNinja lol. Have fun playing Diablo
@River3636 who needs GBA for NSO when we are getting collections of GBA games like this
@Refurin yeah man. I was gonna buy it today and then realized I don't have enough money to buy it. Oh well, I am planning on getting both Anniversary and Advance Collections next month
I have learned that Konami has good discounts on their collections. Up to 75% off the other ones, just give this some time.
@anoyonmus you are right. So I guess I kind of got what I wanted.
Maybe they're holding onto Rondo for when they put the contents of my PC-Engine Mini onto NSO for an additional additional monthly premium in 2024?
@BloodNinja
There's a suspicious lack of PCE on Switch following an entire mini system and Konami putting out these collections...but no PCE titles....yet Mega Drive is coming to NSO. I'm not saying anything, but I am saying I hope we get Blazing Lasers on NSO.
@russell-marlow I’m not telling anyone to be excited about anything. I’m talking about how I’ve seen people come here after every single direct to complain for about five years running. Now that seems childish.
@brunojenso agreed. Circle of the moon is truly underrated and the DSS mechanic is quite awesome. Too bad too many people bury it for for its flaws which there are but not many. It’s a great game love it, now we need the DS games particularly portrait of ruin.
@BloodNinja that is the only blight on this collection the SNES Dracula.
@russell-marlow And it’s the people lo,e you that whine and moan about everything is the real immaturity on this site. Telling some one not say to get excited is the most ridiculous thing I have seen, and in it self….what’s that word…oh yes childish.
@faint I agree with you. People come on here being super picky but I found the directs the most interesting of the three console makers presentations. Sony’s a couple a weeks ago to me was not interesting, but this one killed it.
Waiting for the inevitable LRG physical release
Downloading it now as I have never played any of the GBA castlevania games.
@robr SOLDIER BLADE
Blazing Lazers too, but Soldier Blade is my bae!! Hahahah
@ogo79 Probably fine, is my point!
Yep I got it. I'm a sucker for all things Castlevania.
@Themagusx1 I keep my expectations tempered, and I don't like every game that everyone else likes. My position is being neutral on things as well as having some skepticism before being overly optimistic.
So please go on and hyperbolize me and make me out to be something I'm not.
@faint From what I understand on how some people interpret others' opinions, they either think people really really love something or hate it completely.
There's no middle ground, it's all black and white never different shades of grey in the middle of the spectrum on how they feel.
It makes it easier for others to exaggerate the person expressing their opinion that they don't like to hear.
@russell-marlow you are from neutral, I am making you out to be since you were being rude to some one else. The make,not you are attacked you play victim.
The trouble with game collections is that I never play them all. So what looks like good value turns out not to be.
I think I would play one or two in this collection, so I guess it's wait for the proverbial sale.
@BloodNinja
You smoke what I smoke. But why limit it to Soldier Blade? We need Super Star Soldier and Final Soldier.
@robr Yes, we need all of them! LOL
Soldier Blade is my all-time favorite, though. The sound and music just get me, and I love all the clever enemy formations.
@Themagusx1 I "attacked" someone?
I didn't realize I was committing a crime by giving a simple rebuttal to another person's argument. The @faint person I responded too blamed me by saying people with any sort of criticisms as being "super picky". If that's the case, then are people going to get easily upset and gate keep from having an opposing opinion here. You're making it sound like people are mad and sending death threats and those people need to removed from here.
Also, you're grammar not so good.
Can't convey last message with poor English.
Either that, or you're too lazy to correct your text. So please edit it so I can understand better.
@russell-marlow when you attack grammar, that means you lost the argument. Hahhahahahahah
@BloodNinja ha!
If I hadn’t already paid for the Castlevania Double Pack on GBA with AoS and HoD just last year and extensively played both games, I would have scooped this up in a heartbeat. As of right now, definitely a sale game.
@Themagusx1 I lost the argument?
And who decides that?
I asked you to correct what you said so that I could understand that last comment more clearly. And you see that as me being rude. Quit being such a child.
@russell-marlow I decided that cause you went to grammar. Bye Felicia!
@Themagusx1 You really are that petty, aren't you?
@russell-marlow hahahahahaa
@Themagusx1 hahahahaha
@russell-marlow neat
@russell-marlow thats not what happened in that exchange and you know it.
