@FargusPelagius, Don't worry about Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it's the best selling game in the series. They're not remaking the first game to "save" the franchise, they're remaking it to capitalize on XC2's success.
It may not be evergreen, but most story/adventure driven single player games (save for mainline Mario & Zelda) aren't, and they know that. Kirby & DK didn't make the list this year either, but I highly doubt we've seen the last of them.
If you're gonna be worried about anything, worry about poor Daemon X Machina. That was a really solid game that was railroaded by a very bad early demo, followed by being sandwiched between Astral Chain, DQXI & Link's Awakening. It deserved better (now that I think of it, DQXI was published by Nintendo as well and is missing too. Now THAT's a crime).
$70... isn't a bad price for a special edition. I've never bought anything like that before, but I've enjoyed every Shantae game I've played so far, so maybe I'll finally bite.
The US art is so bad this isn't even a fair match up.
Europe is surprisingly really good (maybe even amazing) as an art piece, but it doesn't accurately portray the game's intended tone, and has too much text.
Japan correctly gets the game's tone & style right, but it looks a bit unpolished (almost like a first draft, and the final version should have had a bit more detail).
A toss up between the latter two, but I went Japan.
Just picked up Final Fantasy IX & still pop into Animal Crossing daily (also got Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum N' Fun recently as well), so nothing for me on the Switch front for awhile.
I will get Trials of Mana, but on PS4, and only after I've played Final Fantasy VII Remake, which will have to wait until I'm done with Tales of Berseria (too many JRPGs, lol).
Tried the demo on PSVR and didn't care for it, but that's because I don't care for procedurally generated games in general. The horror atmosphere is really cool & oppressive in VR, though.
@mesome713, It's already confirmed that the current PSVR will work on PS5, rumour has it that they're working on a new version for PS5 as well.
Releases for the current setup have slowed, but that's largely because they're focused on the PS5 launch and don't have many PS4 games of any type left to release (just tLoU II, Ghost of Tsushima, and Iron Man, the last of which is VR).
Vita is a bad comparison too. As a standalone device in an established market where it's predecessors & rivals routinely sell anywhere from 60-100 million units, it's easy to see why it's 15 million is seen as a flop. PSVR on the otherhand is not a standalone device (it's dependant on owning a PS4, of which it costs nearly the same as) and is in a brand new market (building from a market of 0), so it's 5-6 million sold must be looked at in context, and everything we know so far suggests it's surpassed Sony's expectations.
An odd tangent, but is Ted (that Seth MacFarlane adult teddy bear movie) really popular in Japan or something?
I noticed one of the performers (the woman in the top row, second from the left) had a Ted, and whenever I play one of those online Japanese crane games (such as Toreba), they almost always have Teds as prizes (almost as prevalent as Disney & Minions related prizes, in terms of western properties).
Just find it kind of funny, since I don't see much of anything about the movies here in the US anymore (even though we're where they originated).
It's a tough week, and honestly none of them are good. NA's accurately represents the gameplay but is bland, Japan features the most appealing character & art direction but looks cheap, while Europe is probably the most technically impressive but has absolutely fugly character design (and the latter two don't really tell you much about the game itself).
It was a fun novelty for a week or two, but the fact of the matter is that it was too low end for any long term support, with the Switch's low resolution (for VR) and lack of more advanced features like head tracking (which gyro alone can't match). That said, I still pull it out every great once in awhile to watch a few rounds of VR Smash.
Although I still play many more regular games, I generally do enjoy VR though, and still pull out my PSVR once or twice a week (currently working on Wolfenstein Cyberpilot, and Tetris Effect is a pure addiction).
I'm not big on One Piece, but I bought Pirate Warriors 3 on a whim last year, and it's become my favorite Warriors game on the system (I also have FE & Hyrule).
If I ever get bored of it or hit a wall, I'll look into this.
I enjoy a good "casual" game now & then (I'm currently really enjoying Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even pull out Go Vacation from time to time), and this looks like it'll be the next one to join my collection.
Looks like it has the standard high level of polish (at least graphically) as other first party Nintendo releases, so I'm pretty excited.
Still curious when Brain Training is coming to the US though (I was sure it'd be dated during the Direct, but it's still absent).
I feel really terrible reading these comments, as I fall prey to the wasps' wrath every single time. I had even come to the conclusion that they couldn't be caught until sifting through the comments here, lol.
Then again I'm rarely ever holding the net when I get attacked (usually happens whenever I have the axe equipped).
If I'm not mistaken isn't the Switch version published by Nicalis? Maybe with the game not in Atlus' hands anymore, they can't sell new copies after a certain date?
Good for them I guess, but I'm not really sure what kind of pull it'll have.
Even the biggest names here probably amount to cult followings at best in the grand scheme of things, and it's unlikely most people will have any attatchment to maybe more than two or three characters.
X was my first game in the series, and it remains my favorite. I absolutely adore it, and when I recently replayed it on Switch, it gripped me as it did all those years ago.
I tried the I&II collection & IV on GBA, but couldn't be bothered to finish either (I did enjoy IV however, and went on to complete the remake on DS. Probably pretty unconventional to say that's my preferred version of it).
Gave up on XII relatively early on because I couldn't get to grips with the battle system. However I should try it again, as I've really gotten into Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which has a similar system.
Another unpopular opinion, is that I quite enjoyed Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal Bearers for what it was.
If people can achieve things like this in a game that wasn't even meant to be used like this, imagine the kind of stuff people will be cooking up in Dreams (a release that is meant to be a game creation tool) in a few years!
I slightly prefer Japan, but Europe looks very good too. America's does indeed suck.
If it keeps up this way, Europe may finally catch up to North America & Japan in the next couple weeks in terms of winning votes (though I still feel the Mario Bros. reisssue cover was cheating a bit).
I will say that with all those not so subtle double entendres still intact, it makes the few instances of wardrobe censorship make less sense.
Not taking a side either way, but it seems like they couldn't make up their mind on whether or not to fully localize it into a kid friendly property, or to leave it as intended.
I've seen quite a few people request Ribrianne over the course of these character reveals, and I can't help but wonder why she's so popular. So many of the Tournament of Power characters are either stupidy silly (Ribrianne & her pals, the merging robots) or generic to a fault (the wolf furries, the bionic commando looking dude, that purple rabbit guy who looks like they just slightly altered Beerus' design).
Too many of them come off as the kind of unimportant mooks you'd see get knocked out of the preliminaries in one of Dragon Ball's early tournament arcs (coming up with 60 or so new characters for the tournament was a big ask, and I think it shows in their overall low quality).
I'd personally like to see King Piccolo, Teen Bulma, Dabura, and for a real curve ball throw in Moro (the villain from the current Dragon Ball Super arc that hasn't been animated yet, but is definitely it's best so far).
On PS4 I'll mostly be playing LEGO Jurassic World, but if time allows I may hook up my PSVR to try out Firewall: Zero Hour.
On Switch I'll likely be jumping into SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy (which I've had for awhile but only started up last night), but may get around to trying out Byleth in Smash too.
What if what was going to be Pikmin 4's main story mode is rolled up into a Pikmin 3 port as sort of a second campaign, and won't have a standalone release.
I was going to choose Europe as it's clearly the best looking box, but the fact that it's from a re-release at later point in time (post SNES & SMW) when the series' art direction was more established makes it feel like it's inclusion is a bit of a dirty move in favor of a Europe win.

I'd have my eye on the DMC Triple Pack if I hadn't already bought the first game digitally. I'll still get the other two eventually though, just digitally like the first.
Trials of Mana is a certainty, but on PS4. Likewise, I'm interested in Disaster Report, One Piece PW4, & Warriors Orochi 4, but would be leaning towards PS4 versions.
However, I'm working on New Super Lucky's Tale (as well as Blade Strangers & SNK Heroines), and want to get Daemon X Machina, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, and the Resident Evil games, so I'm not running short of Switch games yet.
@DrDaisy, there's Dead or Alive (Bass & Tina) and Dragon Quest V (the protag has a son & daughter who join the party later on) that I can think of from the top of my head.
Despite the fact it does feel a bit cheaper than any modern first party controller I've used, I have to say I'm generally impressed with the Power A controller I bought after my Joy-Con started drifting. It doesn't have rumble unfortunately, but it does have gyro.
Maybe DMC3 & Rune Factory 4 Special, but not anytime soon.
I should be getting New Super Lucky's Tale in today, and once I complete that I know I want to get Daemon X Machina & Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, so I know I won't be hurting for games anytime soon.
A solid game that could have really been something special if it weren't for a few truly infuriating sections (notably the worm boss that knocks the rocks off the geysers, the part where you have to platform on these shifting blue orbs, and the final boss).
Otherwise it's a great looking title with a chill atmosphere, tricky but fair challenges, and a smattering of side content that ranges from okay to fantastic (I loved the arcade).
If it's a current gen multiplat (such as Dragon Quest XI or the upcoming Trials of Mana) I'll go for the PS4 version for the better performance.
However, if it's an HD remaster I'll play on Switch, as the sacrifices will be minor if they're there at all (Okami, FFX, Onimusha, etc.), though even then I play almost exclusively on TV. When I do take it on the go I pop in a game I already beat to replay some favorite levels or do some other extra content.
Naturally, I play exclusives on their respective platforms, and by following these rules I can guarantee I have something to play on both platforms. Currently playing Torna on Switch, and Kingdom Hearts III on PS4.
I really enjoy digging out my PSVR from time to time, though I'll admit that I still play way more regular games.
I've played Astro Bot, Moss, Farpoint, Arca's Path, and the Last Labyrinth, and while they're all solid games, Astro Bot is the only one I'd say stands alongside the best in it's genre. I also picked up Tetris Effect recently, so that'll be my next VR game when I dig it out next.
I would enjoy seeing what Nintendo could come up with, if they had a proper set.
I'm not a fan of the cheap western animation look of the "real world" locations/characters. (Not that there's not good western animation, but this seems to be going for the lowest common denominator).
As overplayed as 8-bit graphics are in "A" & "indie" level games, I actually prefer the look of the fighting game side mode more than the main thing.
They removed the bikini costumes from the game. Whatever your thoughts on this may be, it changes the entire story of one of the chapters, which was a commentary on Japan's Gravure Idol industry (think Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, for a loose western alternative), so it doesn't make much sense in the western version of the game.
They censored a wedding dress for some reason, and badly. It wasn't a particularly risque costume (about what you'd expect of such a dress), but to cover up any exposed skin they lazily painted it white to blend in with the dress.
One of the bosses (based on Fire Emblem's Camilla) has black smoke added to cover it's chest... but only in cutscenes, and is still exposed during actual gameplay.
Now from what I understand this doesn't affect the gameplay which is quite good, but for those that care, it's pretty lazy & half hearted localization in parts.
I'm personally not taking sides & don't really care either way, just adding some perspective by actually listening to the people that were disappointed.
Eh, I'd say DQXI is a more impressive conversion than Cuphead, Ori, & Lucky.
Not that they're probably not great games in their own right, and look great, but from a technical feat DQXI is much closer to Senua, Alien, & Witcher in terms of how much work probably went into it to get it to run so smooth and uncompromised.

Interesting. I'm not much of an artist (though I'd like to be), but I enjoyed playing around with it on 3DS and looking at other people's creations.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #31 - Ghosts 'n Goblins
America & Europe are close, but I give America the edge for the more interesting border (it's very 80's).
The cutesy JPN art seems too divorced from the vibe of the game itself.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #30 - Quest 64 / Holy Magic Century

Re: Bandai Namco Announces Dragon Ball FighterZ Season 3, Kefla Joins The Battle This Month
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 8th)

This is actually next up on my Switch purchase list. Interested in trying it out.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #28 - Mario Bros.
I was going to choose Europe as it's clearly the best looking box, but the fact that it's from a re-release at later point in time (post SNES & SMW) when the series' art direction was more established makes it feel like it's inclusion is a bit of a dirty move in favor of a Europe win.
With that in mind I went with the NA cover.
Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For February And March 2020
The only one that's probably sure to go on the shopping list is Rune Factory 4, but I'm sure a Direct could knock it down the queue with more interesting reveals.

Re: Video: 12 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In February
Maybe DMC3 & Rune Factory 4 Special, but not anytime soon.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 25th)
On PS4 I'm nearing the end of Kingdom Hearts III, so hopefully I'll be able to finish it off over the weekend.
On Switch I'm playing Blade Strangers mainly, but may pop over to SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, and Dragon Quest Builders (on the go) as well.
EDIT: I just learned that my copy of New Super Lucky's Tale is arriving sooner than expected, so that'll be my main Switch game.
Re: A Demo For The Touryst Is Now Available To Download From The Switch eShop

Re: Feature: So, Who's Next For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
I voted for Sora, Amaterasu, & Paper Mario, but would also enjoy Akira Howard, Dante, Rex with Pyra/Mythra, Shantae, and Ryu Hayabusa.
Most disappointing would be a Fortnite or Minecraft rep. Otherwise I wouldn't feel strongly either way.

3. "Do I take the headset with me to use the bathroom"?

I really enjoy digging out my PSVR from time to time, though I'll admit that I still play way more regular games.
I've played Astro Bot, Moss, Farpoint, Arca's Path, and the Last Labyrinth, and while they're all solid games, Astro Bot is the only one I'd say stands alongside the best in it's genre. I also picked up Tetris Effect recently, so that'll be my next VR game when I dig it out next.
I would enjoy seeing what Nintendo could come up with, if they had a proper set.
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Family Games
Captain Toad, DKC Tropical Freeze, Kirby Star Allies, NSMBU, and Yoshi's Crafted World would probably be good picks as well.

Now from what I understand this doesn't affect the gameplay which is quite good, but for those that care, it's pretty lazy & half hearted localization in parts.
I'm personally not taking sides & don't really care either way, just adding some perspective by actually listening to the people that were disappointed.
Re: Astral Chain Director Says Nintendo Switch Exclusive "Sold Above Expectations"
Well deserved, and probably my favorite 2019 release.
Re: Dragon Quest: Your Story Looks Set For A Netflix Release This Year
@The7thHokage95, while I don't care for the art direction either, that's not Netflix's doing.
They're just shelling out for the western publishing rights, and have nothing to do with the movie's production.
Re: Dragon Quest: Your Story Looks Set For A Netflix Release This Year
I'll probably watch it as I love Dragon Quest, but I'm not sure of the art direction.
While CGI anime can work, this looks like it's trying too hard to be "western" stylistically.
Re: Feature: The Most Jaw-Dropping Nintendo Switch Ports Of 2019
Eh, I'd say DQXI is a more impressive conversion than Cuphead, Ori, & Lucky.
Not that they're probably not great games in their own right, and look great, but from a technical feat DQXI is much closer to Senua, Alien, & Witcher in terms of how much work probably went into it to get it to run so smooth and uncompromised.
