Lucky Mountain Games has revealed that Racing Apex is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Taking inspiration from early arcade 3D racers such as Virtua Racing and Winning Run, Racing Apex adds in combat elements which makes it look and feel a little like Activision's cult hit Interstate '76 - which is no bad thing at all.
Founded in 2010 by former EA, Sony London and Rockstar London 3D artist Trevor Ley, Lucky Mountain Games has previously worked with other game studios and has recently taken on new staff to assist with Racing Apex's development.
Racing Apex was previously confirmed for the Wii U, and we've seen some other projects shift from Nintendo's current console to the as-yet-be-released Switch. Refreshingly, Lucky Mountain insists that the Wii U version is still happening:
What do you make of this news? Are you looking forward to playing Racing Apex on your Switch or Wii U? Let us know with a comment.

I'm glad to hear there's still a Wii U version coming.
Really looking forward to it.
Will buy for switch definitely
Fist time I hear of this game. Looks awesome!
I'm glad to hear they are supporting both systems, mabey they will have a cross buy offer on it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I haven't heard about it until now lol
When a game takes too long to develop and the console it was planning to support dies before it comes out.
Looks good so far loved the old Sega 3D driving games hope they get the handling down
@Yhdekskymmenen Like Zelda: BotW?
This looks just like a mixture between Sega Rally and Carmegeddon. I LIKE IT!
Is this what was previously known as 90s arcade racer??
Still more excited about a possible Switch Drift Stage release.
Checks date.
Checks polygons.
Checks date again.
Looking forward to it. The Wii U lacked arcade racers.
@deathmart no, 90's arcade racer was being made by nicalis and pelican13. Don't expect that game to ever come out though, there's been no news about that since late 2014.
Wow, this Wii U footage shows just how far the Switch has come!
Jokes aside, this looks like a lot of fun & reminds me of a cross between Daytona USA (amazing arcade game) and one of those Spy Car games. This is a welcome addition to the Switch library.
Wonder when it'll be finished.
For a second there, I thought this was about 90's Arcade Racer, but this also looks good, and graphically indeed more in the vain of Virtua Racing. Which is a good thing, so by all means: bring it on!
Is it shameful for me to demand Virtua Racing HD after seeing this?
Excellent news! I can't wait to play it on Wii U!
I remember what what happened to 90s Arcade Racer. Hope it'll be released, but i am not counting on it.
I wonder whatever became of 90s Arcade racer?? Had my eye on that one!!
The polygon textures looks like 90's style but with modern polish. But.... not interested with this race unfortunately...
I love Virtua Racing on the Sega 32X so this game will be of my interest. Hopefully it doesn't end up being canned like the 90s Arcade Racer.
This shall be mine the moment it appears on the Eshop.Arcade racers are one of my favourtite genres but I've been mostly deprived of them for years.
@TruenoGT @AlphaJaguar Virtua Racing HD Online would be a dream game for me.Or even better,SEGA Arcade Racing Classics Remastered,a triple pack of Virtua Racing,Daytona & SEGA Rally.
The trailer looks (and sounds) fantastic.
Bland name doesn't do the polygonal violence justice. Off the top of my head, I humbly suggest - 'Panel Beaters'.
Hell ya! Day one for me P: is there a release window?
I love the graphics style, but dislike how this seems to join the group of devs who make awesome retro-inspired games but can't seem to focus on just racing:
sigh
@OorWullie FYI, there are cheap HD versions of Sega Rally and Daytona on the 360, I have both and they are good (Daytona specially), if a little limited on tracks.
love the virtua racing vibe
This makes me wonder if the Kickstarted 90's Arcade Racer will make the jump to Switch as well now... ::fingers crossed::
If it plays as good as it looks, this could be very good.
Wouldn't mind getting this on WiiU, but with the Switch just around the corner, I wonder how long will the online servers last.
I'll get it on Wii u. The online will be cheaper
Omg why did they make it so ugly?
It's a true eyesore! I mean come on, creating good-looking 3D worlds isn't that hard anymore, this isn't 1995.
And some people seem to forget that Notch only made Minecraft look so ugly because he developed it alone and didn't have the resources to make it look better. Doesn't mean every game should look like Minecraft now...
For comparison, there are actually games that take the Minecraft approach further and still feature nice graphics, like Empyrion for example.
No wonder people were complaining about the Wii U's 3rd party games when so many games are made by lazy developers...
Wow, that looks friggin' awesome! Loved Interstate 76' when I was young, first thing I thought of when I saw this.
@gcunit - I can't decide if it's retro cool or just rubbish!
Driving games are a real weak point on Nintendo, which is a shame because it's my favourite genre. I just hope Need for Speed gets ported from the WiiU (slim chance, I know) to Switch.
It frustrates that my phone can run a game like Real Racing 3, yet the 3DS was lumbered with toot like The Run or Asphalt. Admittedly Ridge Racer was pretty decent though.
Mario Kart never did it for me to be honest.
This looks like bigger crap than a stray dog with diarrhea.
I don't care too much about graphics, but this game is too ugly, at least the wheels cold be more rounded
Hadn't heard of this before now but this is pretty interesting!
This looks great and glad it is coming to WiiU as well in case I put off getting the switch for a while.
This looks awesome. Big fan of Virtua Racing for the 32x. Will get this game for Switch.
day one purchase for me. id love to see indie titles getting physical release on the switch just as they are on the PS4.
This would be a fantastic offering for physical media.
90s Arcade Racer probably got some bug, like the bad Nicalis AIDS and died. That's what happens when you let Nicalis touch your games. This game however looks supercool and I appreciate them committing to the WiiU, so it's an instant-buy from me.
