Image & Form confirmed late last year that it's releasing a new SteamWorld game in 2017, which is unsurprising in light of the franchise proving a success for the company. It's expected on Switch, of course, and it's also been known for a little while that it'll be on show this March at PAX East.
Image & Form has now posted the following image and message as a light-hearted tease.

As for the clues here, there's a fan-made Rusty amiibo (it's featured in past videos by the studio) which has some hoping for a game utilising a figure and starring the SteamWorld Dig protagonist. There are various references to the previous games, while plenty are assessing the books (which mostly relate to programming) and the '493' written on a box.
We're certainly looking forward to seeing what's next in the series, with both Dig and SteamWorld Heist proving to be excellent eShop titles.
What do you hope to see with 'SteamWorld Project 2017'?
With thanks to Spoony_Tech for the heads up.

Boxyboxboxboxboxboxboxboy?
Steamworld Amiibo
Ugh. Another indie amiibo?
One was enough.
SteamWorld eye spy? SteamWorld Office?
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy @cfgk24 Did you read the article? The amiibo was fan art (as is much of the other stuff in the photo).
Amiibo
Ay just finished the physical collection of the two games. Whatever it is bring it on!
Old news lmao................................
There are books showing pictures of mars on the spines, also books on anatomy and language. My guess is that it is the steambot colonization of mars
Steamworld Books!
Boxbooksboy!
Steamworld Shelving!
Steamworld Storage Wars!
Exciting.
@remag Yes, the picture is a few hours old, so it's old news.
The internet age.... information.... so .... fast... can't.... stop... informating the information highway....
@Ignatius I did, in fact, read the article.
It says the picture is a hint. In the picture, there's a fanmade amiibo of Rusty. Thus, they're possibly hinting at a Rusty amiibo.
I was simply saying I don't think we need another ~~indimiibo~~ indie amiibo, whether it happens or not.
Maybe this question how popular a character has to be in order to receive an amiibo.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I don't understand why you would be complaining about a second Indy amiibo. First of all, the Shovel Knight amiibo had the most gameplay value of any amiibo by far. Secondly, two is just too much, really? Finally, dude, if you don't like it don't buy it.
Better an indie Amiibo, than Mario / Link Amiibo #3056.
@strongest_link I'd disagree about the Shovel Kinght amiibo having the most gameplay (I'd say Wolf Link does).
Frankly, I'm just against indie amiibo in the first place. I thought they were supposed to be for Nintendo characters, not random characters that appear on everything but the kitchen sink.
It's Half Life 3 obviously
What ever it is, I can't wait. I'm guessing an rpg set after dig
The new game is clearly called Noisia and it obviously comes out in 493 days. Everything else is a red herring. Also, anyone who doesn't realize this or tries to dispute it in anyway is an idiot.
Hmm.....Human anatomy? Lingo? Bubble mailers? A figurine? File organizers? A BOX WITH THE NUMBER 493 ON IT?!? A DRESSER????? This can only mean one thing.....
That the developers are very organized people
@neufel That, my friend, was a good answer. Made me happy.
493=DIC=Do I Care?
No.
@neufel To be fair I sent that in about 3 hours ago lol.
Steamworld Creator. Make your own Steamworld ideas come to fruition. Ala Mario Maker. Using past assets and some new ones.
Hoping to see them tango with yet another genre entirely.
Steamworld Office confirmed
@remag 2 hours and 10 minutes after the tweet you take the time to post, apparently finding it so funny that Nintendo Life took so long to make a story about it from a reader tip that you have no buttocks now. What a world...
Bring it.
Just make sure it gets a physical release from the start this time
Which books on programming?
Steamworld Brawl!
Oh boy am I excited for this new game! Dig and Heist are two of my favourite games so the had my attention when they said the next title was coming to Switch, whatever it is I can't wait!
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy so what you are saying is they don't deserve the same opportunities third party developers have?
wow so people are against "indie amiibos" because they DON'T want indie games to be successful?? because that's why they will be available.. that's the whole point of trying to create an IP people can enjoy.. this is bizzaro world I seem to be living in.. the more indie amiibos the better!! it means the system and consoles they are on would be thriving!! we want GOOD and of course GREAT developers to be awarded for their efforts!!
@faint I'm also saying that there shouldn't of been Monster Hunter amiibo.
Sonic, Pac-man, Mega Man, Ryu, Cloud, and Bayonetta are the only exceptions, because they were in Smash.
But that's just by silly little opioids. Don't worry too much about it.
That's a 4? Looks more like a 7 to me.
Regardless of what exactly the new concept is, I'm sure Image and Form can make a great game. We've seen their ability to make everything ranging from a turn-based RPG, to a tower defense game, to whatever you would call Dig. Really looking forward to another quality title from them.
@aaronsullivan
Yeah whatever, I wouldn't read too much into it if I was you, all it was was a little eye opening dig at someone who was more than keen to point out to me the other day that something was old news now, at the end of the day, any news is new news if you haven't seen it eh, no matter how long its been available to the public............
I hope we get more Spaceships!
Hopefully an RPG style steamworld game.
Turn-based, special attacks, combo attacks, shooting elements.
Release Dig and Heist for Switch with a Rusty Amiibo that unlocks new features in both. Announce your next game. Can't ask any better from them then that!
@remag Fair enough, but have you seen these before? /s or /sarcasm or laughing can mean anything and sarcasm does not translate without visual aids.
@aaronsullivan
Are those 'new' haha .......
Yeah well sometimes a point needs making, a personal thing for each person I suppose.......
