There are plenty of us that enjoy the LEGO games, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has long been high on many wishlists. A game incorporating all 9 main movies in the LEGO style is hard to resist, even if it includes sections from The Rise of Skywalker. These franchises have been combined multiple times before of course, but this certainly seems to be the ultimate marriage of the two.
Unfortunately it's had multiple delays in 2020/2021, but as promised it featured in the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase with a snazzy new trailer and a fresh release window - it's now due in Spring 2022.
Though the footage is naturally of the PC / best version we're hopeful that the Switch edition will be a good effort; TT Games was talking its performance up as far back as December 2019.
So this one is seemingly finally approaching the finish line - are you planning to pick it up on Switch?

that just killed the hype faster than Anakin in a room of younglings
One could hope the long delay was required in order to cut out all episode 8/9 material and add more to the other levels.
I hope there will be a "shout Rey 50 times as Finn trophy "
I hope with the delay they consider releasing the complete saga on the switch.

apparently the author has something against The Rise of Skywalker...
Looks like it will be worth the wait! Recent Lego games (Lego Marvel 2) were very clearly rushed out! Lego DC Villains showed what the company can really accomplish given time
I don't care how much people bash anything that came after the originals. Especially the sequels. I've loved this franchise since i learned to talk and a few ups and downs isn't going to turn me into a nostalgia ridden hater. Heck even the classic trilogy has things i didn't like. Not many but flawless films they are not.
This game won't release.
Wasn't this game originally supposed to launch in 2019? Crazy how far this game has been delayed, even by pandemic-era standards.
And still no LEGO City 2.
That's very disappointing, but if this game is actually coming out next year then that will be another title in a VERY long list of games to look forward to next year
Couldn't they have found some way to, y'know, do it without the sequel trilogy? Especially if the rumored plans of its erasure from canon ever come to fruition.....
Lego clone wars Baby!
@westman98 No, it was first announced at E3 in 2019 and then had a teaser trailer release at the end of 2019 when Rise of Skywalker came out. Apparently they were not given details on Rise of Skywalker in advance, which is a shame because releasing shortly after the movie would have been great.
No firm release date has ever been publicly given, but not even hitting 2021 appears that it has had significant delays. Nevertheless, I am anxiously waiting!
@Warioware There is a 0% chance the ST will be decanonized. Also, it shouldn’t be. I, for one, can’t wait to play through those movies in this game.
@CharlieGirl oof!
Well, it looks as good as I thought it would be (a little better if I'm honest lol.) 2022 is going to be a good year I reckon.
Yup, that looks fun! Mine!
Looks great, I can’t wait to play through the 6 Star Wars movies and the 3 recent terrible fanfics. Hopefully LEGO can fix them, as LEGO is great.
I've pretty much already decided to stick with the Wii game, which a) I already own, and b) has none of the Disney taint of this game.
Ah another fine franchise Mickey ruined.
@Dr_Corndog The new modes look pretty fun, like the over-the-shoulder blaster sections.
Too bad they didn’t use the extra time to take out the voice acting and just stick with the funny grunting in the cut scenes.
I’m excited to play episodes 1-6, but not any of the sequel trilogy portions.
@Calllack Yeah, I remember when it was cool to hate on "Phantom Menace" and the Prequel Trilogy as a whole. Now people have suddenly decided that these movies are quite good and that the new ones are worth the hate. Star Wars fans are truly a bunch of jokers))
The future of gaming is just delays and more delays
@Zeldafan79 My thoughts exactly. I enjoy all the movies and most of them have their flaws, even the original trilogy. It seems to me that Star Wars fans just like to hate on the latest SW movies. So... Disney just needs to release another trilogy))
@Krambo42 It was just a rumour that was circulating a few months ago that Filoni and Favreau were going to essentially wipe it out using the well of souls (??) and the upcoming Ahsoka series. Something about changing the timeline. I haven't really followed the series outside of the films and The Mandalorian. According to the rumours Lucas also was not a fan and was kind of in support of this. No idea how much weight this actually has but it was apparently receiving a ton of fan support and supposedly came from Lucasfilm insiders amidst the also rumoured civil war between the Kennedy and Favreau/Filoni camps.
I personally didn't like the sequel trilogy at all and thought it was a real wasted opportunity that didn't even have much coherence within itself, let alone with the other movies. But that's just my personal view, I know others who liked them.
@Warioware Those rumors are pretty much all made up. The whole “Lucasfilm Civil War” narrative has just been used by clickbait youtubers for the past couple years to the point that many people believe it. There isn’t any evidence of this actually happening, and from everything Dave and Jon have said, Kennedy has been a huge help in everything related to the mandalorian. This was even reiterated today in the making of the Mando finale episode on Disney+. A lot of people paint Kennedy as the villain for the sequels, though she also was a producer on all the good stuff Disney has made as well. While I enjoy the sequels, I can admit that there was a total lack of coordination among them. They were still financial successes though, and the general public would be completely lost if they ever removed them from canon, so I guarantee it won’t happen.
@Warioware I’ve heard the rumors, and I don’t buy them at all. They’re not going to upset fans of the new stuff (as loud as the haters are, I’m certain that more people enjoy it), confuse more casual fans, upset the filmmakers/scare potential future filmmakers out of working for them in the future by making it clear that anything that people get angry about will be made “unofficial”, destroy the entire canon (which consists of way more than just a few movies), start over without Carrie Fisher, acknowledge that they screwed up (which I’d argue they didn’t anyway)…it just doesn’t make sense. Much more likely that they’ll just try to improve the ST by fleshing out the stories/characters Clone Wars-style. Which, between Mandalorian and Bad Batch, it seems like they’re doing, by the way. Anyway, there really just isn’t any reason to do it. At worst, the movies are unnecessary additions to the saga that have their ups and downs (personally, I loved them, but it’s cool if others aren’t as enthusiastic about them as I am). I get why people who LOVED the old EU were let down by them, but outside of that, anybody who says they’re so offensive that they need to be wiped from existence is kidding themselves. They’re fine, just move on and hope you like the next thing better.
That last part’s not really directed at you specifically, by the way.
Vader:NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
@NightBeast both the prequel and the sequel trilogies have 2 bad movies each 1-2 and 8-9.
Unfortunately this game killed the hype for me. I won’t be getting it
The sequel hate is so tired at this point. Take a breath and go watch The Mandalorian before y’all talk about corporations “ruining” it all!
Same goes for the game itself. I couldn’t be more stoked, and while the delays are always disappointing, we have to recognize this is the first time in a long time that they aren’t releasing half a dozen LEGO games in the span of a year or two. I’m expecting some real strides to be made here in terms of polish, especially in comparison to some of the recent LEGO titles…
I hope Ahsoka will be a playable character.
@SeaFishelle
Of course, LEGO in both physical and video games are always great. And who knows? The games might actually improve on the sequels, or at the very least make them bearable.
I’m pretty stoked that there’s voice acting through all of them this time around and I hopefully there’ll be Clone Wars and Mandalorian content too.
Not gonna lie, that release date hurt. Was really expecting a surprise holiday release. BUT, if it means more time in the oven then hopefully it'll be worth it.
This also means I won't be overwhelmed with games this fall/winter.
I fear these delays are solely to buff the graphics for latest gen hardware, and we know what that means for Switch: poor rez and frame rate. We saw a similar situation with Bloodstained: a game meant for Switch, was delayed for ages to be boosted for the "pro" half generation, was compromised for Switch. I'll wait for reviews before deciding.
I also don't accept it as the Skywalker Saga so owning a lie is not something I'm comfortable with. Rey was the offspring of a failed Palpatine clone. A Skywalker she is not, no matter how much BS story-telling they want to spin it.
@SeaFishelle
I don't doubt that this game will be big, but even for big games, a 2 year delay is pretty long. At the end of the day, this is a Lego game, so it won't exactly be pushing the boundaries in technology or innovation.
Like, if Breath of the Wild 2 or Splatoon 3 got pushed from 2022 to 2024, that would be a pretty big cause for concern.
@SeaFishelle
Sure but Breath of the Wild is a game that actually did push the boundaries of tech and innovation (for a Wii U game) and it would have likely been a 2016 release had Nintendo not commissioned a Switch port.
I’m not gonna lie. I was really disappointed by this announcement. I guess they must have just scrapped the first version.
Delayed again? Well I guess there is a silver lining to this. My life just got busier and so I gotta be pickier about which games I buy and spend my time on and this one is no longer on the list
This is shaping up very nicely. Let's hope they include Clone Wars and Rogue One levels
@RiasGremory that’s subjective. I think that the 8th episode is one of the best SW movies ever.
@Tandy255 I really enjoyed the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, which did have full voice acting. So I imagine this game could be pretty funny with voice acting, too.
@Krambo42 All fair points, interesting to speculate though!
@MasterJay as with Krambo, fair points. I actually enjoyed The Force Awakens when it came out but that was pretty much contingent on them following through with the mysteries and questions in the second and third parts. I didn't feel that they did this, with the change in creative team and direction for The Last Jedi (which honestly I hated) and then the seemingly desperate effort to reconcile two very different visions in the messy Rise of Skywalker. I just think they would have been so much better if they had had a clear plan running through all three films. Might have avoided all the bizarre contrivances and motivations. Again though, just my opinion.
@Warioware Yeah I agree that a plan was definitely necessary. They either needed to have a better vision for the entire trilogy to tell each director, or to keep just one director for the entire thing.
@MasterJay Agreed
@NightBeast I think it’s the best since ESB
Good, with everything coming out this year,I was worried this was going to be thrown in the middle. The last Lego Star Wars game was great, and this one will be pretty good as well. The Last Jedi is the one that ruined the sequel trilogy, The Force Awakens was great, and Rise of Skywalker was done to fix the mistakes done in TLJ. The last one should have been a two parter.
That's a shame. Still, looking forward to it.
@Krambo42 exactly)))
I know this must be the most ambitious LEGO game ever made but a change of direction must have happened to have it this delayed. This reflects how the biggest games take so much time to make, I wonder if that applies to Nintendo's studios too.
