Question for anyone who has played this: I have now tried Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition on 3 separate occasions, trying to get it to ‘click’ with me. However, I keep getting frustrated by two things: the in-game map is atrocious for working out which way to go, and worse - I always end up failing missions because something else is happening at the other side of the map that doesn’t involve my current task, and by the time I work out what it is/how to get there, I get a mission failed screen. It became so infuriating I just deleted the game after 3 distinct attempts because it just isn’t fun at all to play for me. As a huge Zelda fan I want to play Age of Imprisonment. Does this game have the same issues outlined above in Hyrule Warriors DE?
@Matt_Barber Thank you, that’s incredibly helpful because the spreadsheet talk etc was worrying me. I am seriously considering getting the cheaper Switch 1 version digitally and the free Sw2 upgrade now…
@AussieMcBucket snap on GameChat, my friend! I’ve had the Switch 2 since launch day and not had the opportunity to make use of that fancy new feature even once… That Split Fiction looks really cool too, but useless to me without knowing another Switch 2 owner lol.
Yes, please! The first Nitro Deck was a permanent fixture on my original switch in handheld, never had any issues with the complaints others made, it felt wonderful and have no doubt this will be better than the grips I currently use on Switch 2.
Looks really interesting… but a lot of these co-op games being announced, and you’re effectively locked out of playing them when you don’t know anyone else with a Switch 2.
Just finished the true ending for a second time after the Returning to a Real Possibility incarnation update, all 48 night enactments completed, over 200 hours played, sensational game. Bittersweet that everything is done, but time for a different game … my GOTY by a long shot, even though it won’t win tonight.
I just can’t justify the price of these things when I could buy a full-price first party game or multiple great indies for the cost of the cheapest sd express, and yes it’s a pain juggling downloads but I tend not to return to single player games for a good couple of years once I have completed it, so it is manageable.
Someone has already preordered me the physical for Christmas, so although I will have to wait 3 weeks after everyone else to play it, at least it saves m a whopping 32gb on my Switch 2!
What a great physical case! I cannot emphasise how good this game is too - I have been practically unable to play anything else for over a month now, it is an absolute joy.
Although I am not especially disappointed, I too am somewhat surprised. I thought there was this ironclad legal agreement to at least bring CoD to Nintendo when they bought Activision? I am surprised there hasn’t even been a hint of that happening so far.
Oh, and thanks to everyone who comments on the various different articles. Just finished reading all 116 comments on this one….. you all make the site as good as it is too!
Already downloaded, so interesting to see my playtime going back to the WiiU launch 13 years ago! (Did I really play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer for 472 days during the WiiU’s lifespan!?).
@the_beaver Metro GC tend to be hugely critical and negative about most of the gaming industry, so take their view with a ton of salt (I found it funny they hated Hollow Knight for years, which is fair enough to have a different opinion but changed their tune when Silksong launched and broke every digital storefront).
@kmtrain83 I am actually pleased to hear someone else struggled with orientation with the map on these games. There seems to be some kind of inversion going on, where you walk towards one point on the screen and find you are heading in the opposite direction on the map to where you should be going, which isn’t how maps work in 99% of other games and it actually spoiled my enjoyment of Hyrule Warriors DE. But still looking forward to this, great review.
@Tibob I’m right with you there. At least you can get rid of the cursor in handheld mode, but playing on a tv with the Pro Controller, that damn cursor just gets in the way.
This looks neat and all, but I don’t think it’s going to tempt me back to my island. I would have much, much preferred a dedicated Switch 2 Animal Crossing, a completely fresh experience.
@Metalinkster same here, been playing this exclusively for the last few weeks. 10/10 and an absolute masterpiece. On my path to the True Ending, so some of these changes are very intriguing.
This actually sounds great, I have considerably toned up my ‘grind and repetition’ skills/tolerance with Hades 2 recently, so after I finish there I will pick this up.
Just today in a frantic battle with Chronos on Hades 2, I accidentally pressed the + pause button, and I thought I had inadvertently also pressed quit from the pause menu because the screen went black and he proceeded to chastise me for pausing a battle with him! and telling me he’d wait until I had finished something more important. It was hilarious when I realised that I hadn’t quit the fight but I guess locking the buttons prevents accidentally stopping your flow in such tense final battles 😂.
@Max_the_German I take your point, but the online lag in MK8 on Switch 1 is absolutely horrendous. Every red shell seemingly has no effect on the person in front of you due to the delay. It ruins the online experience. But Mario Kart World has flawless online, where every hit counts and you can actually overtake people in real time.
Watched a gameplay video of Borderlands 4 last night, and it does look like a lot fun. I really want it on Switch 2, so desperately hoping performance is decent…
Enjoying all these reviews, and I went 3rd party on all controllers with Switch 1, but done a complete U-turn having bought the Switch 2 Pro Controller. It just feels absolutely perfect to use, and I am even spending more time in TV mode this gen when I usually prefer handheld due to how good it is.
@GrailUK Exceptionally well put, I couldn’t agree more. What a game, what an experience, what an achievement seeing it run on Switch 2. After a decent enough time so it can feel fresh again I am definitely going to replay it, making different decisions and specs/build.
Despite having the Switch 2 since launch day, the one feature I have not been able to use even once is GameChat. You can’t use it if you don’t know anyone with a Switch 2 now, can you 🥲.
I ended up not buying Ragebound because of all the reviews about frames on S2, even though I absolutely loved the look of it. Decided to bite the bullet on Shinobi after trying the demo and before I was poisoned by the incessant, ever-present talk of frame rates (seriously, ALL we hear about in every single game released these days is FRAMERATES, FRAMERATES, FRAMERATES, it’s getting seriously tiresome). So glad I got Shinobi, it’s a wonderful game, and I didn’t notice any issues whatsoever after 5 hours of play.
@Yosher I really do appreciate the points you make, and the game is permanently downloaded on my Switch 2 just in case I ever fancy really trying to get into it. But it seems that when you’re just trying to get used to one aspect of the gameplay, or wanting to just wander and discover the game world, that time limit kicks in and it stresses you out to have to head back no sooner than you are ready to get things going.
@Daniel36 you summed up perfectly why the time limit is so off putting: “10 minutes just to get to the front door, an hour just to walk to the shed. It makes no sense and it makes me stressed.”
Ok, I’ve tried to get into this game twice now due to all the hype. But I personally cannot stand the time limit aspect - as a cosy sim meant to be played at your own pace, I just hated the fact that you only have a limited time each day and are forced back before dark. I was so used to the Animal Crossing approach which allows you freedom and leeway to do things at your own pace. Forced time constraints in a cosy life sim just don’t feel right to me, and I can’t believe more people don’t have an issue with this aspect of the game. Forever condemned to the backlog, I fear…
@ShadLink It really has become an obsession with frames per second hasn’t it? It’s like that is not only the single most important factor in gaming these days, but the way it’s reported on it has become the ONLY factor that matters in determining whether a game is good or not.
@The_Nintend_Pedant I was fully expecting your comment on this article 😂. Agree with all three points you made (though I thought you’d have a tad more to say, hehe).
I’m going to finish off Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo this weekend, what a fantastic little game this turned out to be. As an aside, I would like some help: I read online that there are 13 diamonds to collect, and I have only found 7. I am at the endgame and have scoured the map, and cannot find the last 6 anywhere. Worse, there are absolutely no guides anywhere on the internet as of yet showing where those last diamonds could possibly be (I thought you could find out anything online!?). Anyone found all the diamonds and could point me in the right direction?
I tried using the a button for jumping for an hour or so, with muscle memory often causing me to press b, before I even noticed there was an option in the settings to swap them. It worked infinitely better to have b as jump! Guess this is one of the times I wholly disagree with Miyamoto’s design choices…
