I have to finish off Witcher 3 before Zelda drops. I know from May 12th I will only be playing one game for the foreseeable future. Finished the main campaign and Hearts of Stone, and halfway through Blood and Wine. I cannot believe B&W is DLC - it is so huge, it feels like a whole new game, a sort of sequel to Witcher 3 it’s that big. This is how DLC should be done.
@LastFootnote Exactly the same happened to me… I went through most of the entire game not realising you could one-shot a Lynel in the face with an ancient arrow until the very end of the trials.
I can finally read these articles now, having just got back from the movie! Honestly, I was just smiling half the time. Eff to the bad reviews: it was exactly what I expected. Don’t go into it expecting Citizen Kane. It was just joyful. And he did seem younger at that dinner table with his family than I have ever thought of him since the 80s.
@Cashews Just as I was reading your comment there was a TV show where someone was visiting that place in Arkansas! Freaky coincidence, never even heard of it before. You make a point, though.
I’m at the final boss on Huntdown, which is a real pain the a… Although having beaten the final boss in Prime Remastered earlier this week, I feel like I can beat any boss! What an epic battle to conclude an epic game.
Is anyone else thinking the Oracle games will shadow drop during this video? Anyway, I’ve obviously preordered Totk so this won’t affect my decision on buying the game, but I just have to watch this video, even though I agree with everyone who says they don’t want spoilers.
Metroid Prime Remastered. What a video game this is! Difficult, rewarding, and even when I am stuck on a boss, it never feels unfair. I upgraded my memory card this weekend, and it is taking FOREVER to redownload my games. Still only 65% on Witcher, after a day and a half. Any tips on increasing the download speed?
Finished Minish Cap (I never could get to see what those bloody Gorons were doing - didn’t even know how to interact with them, unlocked 5 out of 6 but refused to look it up online), started Fusion but will be spending today finishing Foregone (an excellent 2D action game that is never mentioned, for some reason).
Just started it this morning… it is taking a while to get used to the controls after 2 playthroughs of Dread though. Good job you can swap the ‘y’ button to shoot.
Last time I tried this was on my GBA Micro. Couldn’t finish it, but that was before I got into the franchise. Hopefully this time I can finally crack fusion…
The start of this review is so right: the scariest horror film I ever saw growing up was the Blair Witch Project, and never getting to see the ‘witch’ even once made the horror, fear of the unknown, unseen, even more terrifying.
Having spent the whole of 2023 playing one game (Witcher 3) I decided to break free and started the Minish Cap this weekend. And as a result I have a huuuge backlog on my switch. Need some help deciding where to start clearing it! I have:
Metroid Prime Remastered Kirby Dreamland Deluxe Axiom Verge Blasphemous Huntdown Disco Elysium Bayonetta 3 Shredder’s Revenge Hyrule Warriors DE Steamworld Dig 2
All sitting untouched on my switch. Where do I even start? Nice problem to have though.
@Deemo37 How does it play on Apple Arcade with touch controls? There are some good games on there, but I always thought Dead Cells was too fast paced for touch controls.
@Uncle_Franklin First, it’s football. Second, quite a lot of people do avoid the football scores on a Saturday, so they can watch Match of the Day on a Saturday night without knowing the scores. Makes it more exciting. I for one want Nintendo Life to keep this stance, for similar reasons.
I’m still on Witcher 3. My switch tells me I’m 195 hours in, and just finished Hearts of Stone dlc. Really want to start Minish Cap this weekend though!
Being able to play GB/GBA games straight after the drop took the sting out of losing my ambassador 3DS… and the inclusion of Minish Cap plus eventually the Oracle games means I don’t have to buy a secondhand 3DS before the eshop closes. Plus getting to retry Fusion and Prime after abandoning Metroid years ago only to rekindle my interest with the excellent Dread… win, win.
It’s all about the Witcher 3 again this weekend. I finally got into Gwent after ignoring this part of the game for the first 70 hours - now I can’t get enough of this little card game!
Those bloody motion control shrines on BOTW. I was attempting them on a Lite at the time, and they would just not register my movements properly no matter what I did. And you had to hold the console in ridiculous positions where you couldn’t even see the screen. Those sections were not built for handheld play.
This trailer almost makes me want to go back to a place I spent 275 hours in! I’m hoping TOTK has proper dungeons and takes more influence from Witcher 3 (the only game that rivals it for best I’ve ever played) in terms of its open world design.
@Znake Serious question: do you “lose all the games” the minute the eshop closes though? If you have them downloaded, can’t you just continue to play them for as long as the console continues working? Do you really mean you just can’t re download them if for some reason you deleted the game to save space etc?
“but the biggest reason? i'm an idiot, and trade/sell physical games when i'm done with them or need extra cash. so if i buy them digitally, i literally can't get rid of them. so my collection, altho it's digital, is persistent, and does not get smaller due to my impulsiveness or brokeness.”
This. No-one ever mentions this argument for digital over physical, and couldn’t have put it better myself. I’ve sold so many physical Nintendo stuff and regretted it, sometimes not till years later. Now all my games on switch (bar one single physical copy) are digital, and I’m glad because I would have sold every one for one reason or another.
I’m all about Witcher 3 at the minute. Last played it about 8 years ago on PS4, and I’ve got to say it is a joy to play again on switch in handheld (plus I never did any of the DLC, so that’s like having a whole new Witcher game to look forward to).
@romanista Fair point about the sentence… but the claim football was invented by the Romans, the Egyptians, the Chinese. Nah. Football was invented in England.
The statement (no, it’s not called football) really grates. Football, as invented in England in the 1800s, is more widely played across the globe than any other sport. And it is played with the feet - it’s illegal to touch the ball with your hands. American football, is largely not played using your feet. Ask anyone in the whole continent of Europe (the home of football) South America (the spiritual home of football) and Africa, and most of Asia. It’s football. Not ‘soccer’.
@JustMonika I remember the original getting a perfect 10 from Edge magazine back in the day (a 10 from them was a big deal back then) but I was a Nintendo exclusive player so never tried it. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed 1 but if you liked 1, 2 is better in almost every way. Just feels smoother, easier to pull off combos and makes more sense (although those last two points may be me just getting better at the gameplay). Enjoy the 80 degree weather - it’s below freezing here!
I am planning on playing through the Bayonetta trilogy for the first time. Currently on 2, and it’s so much better to play than 1. Everything seems to click this time, after slogging through to the end on 1. Makes me excited for 3, which is ready and downloaded. Oh, and I’m replaying Odyssey after 5 years. I forgot how joyful it is to play!
@ozwally Thank you so much for that, I had no idea you had to start a new save file, I would have been flying around looking for them in my main save. Will try that later today.
The current version is actually 4.0.7 on switch. And I haven’t checked yet, but I’m hoping this is the version that includes the expeditions mentioned in your earlier article (of course some guidance on how to actually access these expeditions wouldn’t go amiss).
Could you provide some details on what these expeditions are, conditions for activating etc for those of us who are not in the know? Absolutely loving this game on switch. Just got to the Atlas for the first time and would love to know more about this extra content without having to Google and see spoilers etc.

No Man’s Sky as the main course (such an epic game to play in handheld!) with some Golf Story to pallet-cleanse. I am loving Golf Story so far!
