Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura arrived in Japan during the Summer, and though the latest dual release fell short of the launch sales of its predecessor, it was nevertheless another success for Level-5. The developer and publisher isn't planning to slow down with the series, either.
Copying the strategy from Yo-kai Watch 2, a third game for this year's 'generation' of titles has been confirmed - it'll be called Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki and was revealed by CoroCoro Magazine. It's out in December and will tie-in to Sushi / Tempura and the latest movie in the series; the following details are via Gematsu.
- Set off on a Great Adventure with Blasters T – An evolution of Yo-kai Watch Blasters where players will seek out hidden treasures in dungeons, take on giant boss battles, and so on.
- "God Yo-kai" Appear by Linking Versions – If you link together the three versions of Yo-kai Watch 3, four "God Yo-kai" will appear. Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura will be updated to support this feature when Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki launches on December 15.
- A Story Linked to Yo-kai Watch Movie #3 – Befriend Koalanyan, the key Yo-kai of the December 17-due movie, Yo-kai Watch The Movie: The Flying Whale and the Grand Adventure of the Double Worlds, Meow! A graphic novel world will also appear in doing the linked quests.
It'll be interesting to see how localisation of all these releases is tackled; we'll likely see a selective approach. Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits & Fleshy Souls arrived recently in North America, but there's been no suggestion (yet) that the third entry of that generation will also be localised.
In any case, we'll see how sales go for this new release, and whether it'll be a further slip in sales from the second gen releases.

Gosh ! Sukiyaki ?
Next , the fourth will be Ramen or Udon or Soba. XD
Just kidding.
Ue o Muite Arukou~
Mark my words, Yokai Watch will be dead by the end of 2018. There's just too many games in such a short amount of time.
@Gorlokk Ha, glad to see I wasn't the only person who thought about that song!
Localizing this thing is gonna be a challenge since we decided to set the series in the west.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I believe Akihiro Hino said that the series would be put on hiatus in 2017, partly to catch the rest of the world up, to generate more hype for a new game, and one can infer to learn the architecture of the NX. Yo-kai Watch 3 Sushi and Tempura have been smash hits in Japan, but not as much so as Yo-kai Watch 2. The hype for the series is certainly slowly declining, and taking a break was a good idea on Level 5's part.
Is it called Yokai Watch 3:Sukiyaki, as the title says, or Yokai Watch:Sukiyaki, as the article says?
Numbers aside, how many of these games have there actually been, feels like close to a dozen.
How the heck do you link together 3 games to make god Yokai? Would you need three 2/3DS and 1 copy of each game in each? I imagine that won't be an insurmountable problem in Japan but in the west it could be tough.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Pokemon does this too and it's still very popular.
@rjejr It's supposed to have the 3, I just missed it in the article.
@ekreig
Donuts ?
Omnomnomnom.... XD
@rjejr
Same case like Nintendogs. NDS have 4 versions while 3DS have 3 versions.
@Anti-Matter There were 7 Nintendog games? I remember 2, Nintendog, and Nintendog and Cats. But there always seems to be a new Yokai spin-off game in Japan in the charts. I'd say at least 2 or 3 spin-offs besides the main games. Which I suppose would be about 7 like you said, thanks for the info. Fortunately for our wallets my kids play every Pokémon game but not YW.
@rjejr
Oh, wait. I forgot to update.
There was 5 different versions of Nintendogs DS ( Labrador, Shiba inu for Japan only, Chihuahua, Dachshund and Dalmatian)
While 3DS have 4 different version (Toy Poodle, Golden Retriever, French Bulldog and Shiba Inu for Japan only).
I'm impressed they're going to update the older games to support something the third game is bringing in. It's a shame Game freak didn't do it with X and Y + Oras.
Sushi - Sushi
Tempura - Chips/French fries
Sukiyaki - Barbecue
There. Translated.
@BluePikmin11 Since the release of XY in 2013, Pokémon has had 2 (Soon 3) main-series games, 4 F2P games, and a few of spinoff games (I think Super Mystery Dungeon, Detective Pikachu, and Pokken) a TV show, anime, and multiple mangas.
On the other hand, Yokai-Watch has had 3 (soon 4) games, a few spinoffs, a cartoon, 2 movies, and a manga.
...Okay, so maybe they have comparable amounts of "content", but the problem is that Pokémon was given time to grow. It started as simply a pair of video games that became smash hits, causing them to create an anime, manga, TCG, ect.
Yokai-Watch, on the other hand, is being forcefully grow into a monolith like Pokémon, which worked in Japan but is clearly failing to cause anything major to happen in the west.
is it weird I'm exited for this to come out in America?
@maceng
Eh, Sukiyaki is not a BBQ. That's Yakiniku(Beef) or Yakitori (Chicken)
@Anti-Matter
Sukiyaki is the one that you dip the beef in boiling water, then? (sometimes I get mixed up, even though I lived in Japan for three years, twenty years ago).
@maceng
Yup. Sliced of Beef with vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, etc dip in boiled broth.
I wish we got the third game instead of the dual releases for 2.
@ekreig It is funny that you speak of localization since the third game already takes place in the west in some fictional Eagleland type town.
Edit: The look on that kid's face...man marketing must be an interesting field to work in.
I've put some thought into it and have decided that if the third game for the Yo-Kai Watch 2 family is localized, I'll pick that up instead of one of the two that just came out here in NA. If not, I'll be grabbing Fleshy Souls.
I'll likely do the same thing with the Yo-Kai Watch 3 family if/when they're localized.
@Anti-Matter OK, now that you mention it, I do think I remember different copies of Nintnedogs having different pictures on the front of the box, I never thought of those as different games though.
