It's obvious. PS4/XB1 owners (generally) are chavs looking to blitz through the newest AAA releases, Indies will rarely get a second glance - if indeed a first.
Nintendo/Switch owners however (again, generally) tend to be more an eclectic bunch, mixing both AAA releases and Indie titles 50/50, sure, largely due to the fact being less AAA releases make it to recent Nintendo consoles, but that (for me) actually opens up a broader and more diverse library of games.
But seriously, anybody looking for the definitive top 100 SNES games need only refer to Super Play - the go-to on anything and everything SNES related.
It's getting to the point now lists me as well the entitled 'these games aren't included on the SNES Classic'. Yes, some titles posted here were of course SNES staples, but it's hard to argue what games are included aren't all good at worst, half a dozen bona fide all-time classics.
A different 'beast' entirely. May be good, may blow - my money is on the latter - but the SNES Classic is a Plug n' Play device preloaded with 21 games which would cost you an arm and a leg to source, so good luck with that...
Don't get me wrong, I'm still (very) happy being lucky enough to have secured a SNES Classic, however, this DF analysis feels a bit of a kick in the teeth for anybody believing what we have in our hands is anything better than a good Raspberry Pi setup. I'd have loved - just to be proven wrong - DF to have done a side by side with these 2 heavyweights.
@kobashi100 while this appears to be an exception to the rule, CoD, GTA, Fifa and the like spends months at no.1 in the charts...the charts are for chavs - evidently.
@NinNin you can't. This isn't SNES hardware and 21 individual SNES cartridges you understand? This is a VERY cheap board using software/emulation. You can purchase a Pi 3 and 2 iBuffalo SNES pads for (roughly) the same price and score every SNES game release plus many, many more - should you be inclined.
Talk about opening with a whimper. Took an age for the almost always superior Arcade alternative of said games to find their way to Nintendo's home console, then this? Frustrating as hell - and at this price - insulting.
I'm a long time Nintendo fan, collector, game, BUT, this is SHADY, really, really SHADY. I'm sorry, but re-shelling identical hardware and adding £20-30 more is scandalous. Besides, too many better alternatives exist for those who haven't a THING for the replica SNES casing.
@LinktotheFuture I get it, I do, but having "the real thing" sacrifices so many great, great SNES games. Besides, have you caught a glimpse of the RetroFlag NES Pi case?
Nobody need miss out and those willing could fashion an even greater setup/catalogue of games than the SNES Classic offers out of it's box - I've heard Hackchi2 is inevitable once again.
I'll say it again - however boring some might find it - Raspberry Pi/RetroPie, ideally coupled with an iBuffalo SNES pad (or two). You'll probably get this set-up for roughly the same price as a SNES Classic with the added bonus great SNES games due to licencing conflicts haven't been omitted... Turtles in Time, Actraiser, Wild Guns, Chrono Trigger, Pilotwings, etc, etc, etc.
I don't advocate illegal roms and the like, far from it - original hardware/software first, always - but rather am just comparing Nintendo's offering to what is on offer in comparison.
Words fail me when it comes to describing how in awe I am of A Breath of the Wild. Zelda (NES) > Zelda (SNES) > Ocarina & Majora's Mask (N64) > Wind Waker (GC) > Skyward Sword (Wii) >>>>> A Breath of the Wild (Switch).
Yes, I left out Twilight Princess because (for me) while a solid Action/Adventure title, I feel it fell short of the innovation and experimentation I had selfishly come to expect from the strongest franchise of all time in terms of depth of quality.
Remember the days when you bought a game you got the whole entire game? These days it's more like buying a blueprint for what potentially could become the game.
Don't get me wrong, 'free' content is almost always a plus, but those without internet - yes, some such cases do exist - are being left out of the loop.
I'm on the side of Mike Matei regarding the Mega Man games. Sure, Mega Man II is an all-time top 10 NES game, but it's trial and error gameplay doesn't (for me) lend itself to as many titles as the NES housed. Mega Man X is a good game mind you and a much needed at that time refresh.
Not an alternative to the SNES Classic. Repeat: not an alternative to the SNES Classic. The SNES Classic is a plug n' play device with games available to boot. The Retro HD SNES Clone is a (poor) SNES substitute, the company Hyperkin offering a history of relatively poor emulation via its devices.
@jimbobolowskie you missed many essential titles which are likely guaranteed never to find their way to the Switch - SM3DW, Tropical Freeze and Pikmin 3 being but 3.
Personally I'm not a fan of these 2DS XL models - any of them - but I much prefer the Pokeball variation here compared with the slightly saccharine Pikachu edition.
I'd like the unresolved issues of screens being scratched by simply inserting/removing from docks and joy cons de-syncing being addressed. Sadly however this looks to have been firmly swept under the rug.
You'd be far, far better picking up Axiom Verge which is launching (roughly) a week before Halloween for your scares of sorts. A better game in every department.
I'm 99% certain to receive a SNES Classic at launch, I've also a NES Classic in my possession, but it's not about that, rather exactly what I stated previously.
This gen - in particular it seems - is about the have and have nots, the boasters, scalpers and the Gollums. So, enjoy your SNES Classic. I doubt you'll spend too long with it before you admit an official casing doesn't negate all the great SNES games which haven't made the cut.
Everybody banging on about securing a SNES Classic of late...entitled bunch of brats (most of them). Sorry, but pre-orders of late - this gen in particular - is something akin to the 1980's.
Edit: Actually, I've been thinking. Perhaps a C- would be fairer - what with the dock scratching screens, joy con de-syncing and horror that is SFII Ultra 'issues'.
Still, I've always bought Nintendo and will continue to do just so long as it's 1st party software remains as strong as always.
@Joffy agree. It's just the coverage games of this ilk receive prelaunch for the Switch. A similar game released via Android/iOS would get little to no coverage, as it is - albeit diverting - extremely throwaway title.
It's a decision based purely on packaging, surely. This is the Super Nintendo MINI after all. Yes, of course I would have (like many) preferred longer cables, but options are available for those with which this is an impossible situation.
@SKTTR likewise if it's on par with Excitebike 64. I won't be however. Sad knowing we haven't had a full-on Excitebike sequel for some 17 years now - not including WiiWare variants.

@GrailUK what this guy said.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Director Explains Why the Life Counter Has Been Dropped
This (for me) is Nintendo at it's very, very best, going against the grain and considering new users, not just the self-proclaimed 'hardcore'.

Re: Random: Move Over N64 Kid, We've Got Nintendo Switch Kid Now
It's good, but N64 kid retains his crown.
Re: Video: Check Out This Custom SNES Mini Raspberry Pi Project
Caution - pointing out how a Pi is way more versatile than a NES/SNES Classic rubs some people the wrong way...only it is.
