Earlier this year it was confirmed that both Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil Revelations 2 were coming to the Nintendo Switch. The former was originally on 3DS and then Wii U, but Nintendo gamers missed out on what was - at that point - the episodic sequel on PS4 / Xbox One / PC / everything but Wii U.
With the first Revelations just recently arriving on other current-gen systems, Capcom has confirmed that both titles will head to Switch on 28th November. It was previously confirmed that there'll be a retail version for $39.99USD that will have the first game on cartridge and the second as a download code, while they'll be available for $19.99 each on the eShop. That's not bad pricing for fairly meaty games.
We were fans of the first one on 3DS and then Wii U, and this scribe bought the follow-up on PS4 before losing interest in the episodic releases halfway through; hopefully it'll hold attention when included in the full download.
Are you planning to pick these up?

The horror. If Capcom had been more committed to the Switch they could have had this out in time for Halloween. Also, I think that only one of the games being on cartridge reinforces the fact that they're expensive and limited in size. They should have put the sequel on the cartridge instead of the first. A lot of Nintendo fans own the original in physical form. And it's worse for Europe, we get digital only for both. I loved the first game on Wii U.
I loved these games, (well, the first one, anyways) but I'm not entirely sure how much I want to get this. I will see what is available for shooters by then.
Not sure if I need to play the first game again but will definitely pick up the second. Nintendo needs more RE games on the Switch!
More ports, more power.
"Not quite in time for Halloween"
This is the only thing I thought of when I saw the RE twitter post. For shame.
Hell, it's not even in time for Thanksgiving!
I forgot about this... Not a Resident evil fan but I wanted to give these a shot. Will pick them up sometime early next year.
After playing RE7, there's no way I could ever revisit these games. They shouldn't even be branded Resident Evil tbh...
Yes ! Just playing code Veronica on ps2 at the moment which I love !
It should also be mentioned that they have HD Rumble and optional motion aiming. Aim with the right JoyCon, swing for knife attacks, tilt up to reload, and shake the left JoyCon to break free when an enemy grabs you.
The Raid mode in Revelations 2 also has single JoyCon local co-op.
All the DLC is included as well.
@gatorboi352
These games should have been the new direction for RE instead of 7. With a greater emphasis on puzzles and atmosphere they'd be solid successors to the originals. RE7 really didn't grip me that much. First person was a poor choice in my opinion, the puzzles were really lacking and the plot was so far removed from the established canon that it shouldn't even be branded Resident Evil tbh.
@gatorboi352 The Revelations games are much closer to classic RE than RE7. If anything, it's RE7 that shouldn't have been called Resident Evil. It's different enough that Capcom could have made it a new horror I.P. and avoided a lot of the backlash regarding the changes they made.
Not a fan of horror at all. Happy for those that like these though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"I loved the first game on Wii U."
But that game was a port on Wii U!
I still say Capcom should include both cards in the box instead of forcing us to download part 2!! Cmon.
I'm definitely getting this. The first one on 3DS was one of my favorite third party games. A shame about the download code for the second game, it seems obvious that a higher capacity cartridge was too expensive for the price point. In that case I'd rather take the price point. This is a no win for them. They either charge more and gamers will complain, or they drop the high capacity cartridge, and the gamers will complain some more.
I'd like more Resident Evil games on Switch, so I wanna show support.
Well, hopefully this will mean The Switch will get any new entry also.
This is more the pricing for old ports, 19.99 is a fair price. I can see people rather pay 19.99 to get this on the Switch (with the extra on the go benefit) over 19.99 on the PS4.
I enjoyed the first game on 3DS - partnered with the carbuncle-like Circle Pad Pro it felt surprisingly close to a home console game on the go. Say what you like about how the CPP looks, it was actually very comfortable to use and I prefer the ZL/ZR button placement to the New 3DS XL.
I could be tempted to play the 2nd game on Switch for sure.
@MoonKnight7 I know, and it was 1 of only 2 games Capcom put on Switch. The other being a 3DS port as well, MH3U. Capcom really are a lazy shower at times. And people wonder why Wii U failed.
When they do an inevitable capcom sale and both games are 5-10 bucks I'll buy em both digitally. I'm not double dipping for 40
Probably just going to download the second one.
@IceClimbers Do we know if they separated the camera functions for motion aiming? Revelations 2 on the vita combined joystick aiming camera inversion with motion control so I couldn't have invented stick & regular camera for motion. Made it very annoying to try to use both.
@Blister Yes this game is best played with the Circle Pad Pro, not easy on the New 3DS with the nub. This game and Nano Assault are the best circle pad games I have tried and keep my original 3DS Xl for those. I think 3DS is still the only way to play this game in 3D
First one was great willing to buy that one again
The second is ok but not as good as the first
If it going on cart in uk I will buy day one
I hope Resi 4 HD gets ported to Switch with Wii style controls
Never played either so sweet! Day One!
I haven't played an RE game since 4. These look great! Ordered the physical release for 20% off.
Every year I'm disappointed that these companies fail to release their horror games in time for Halloween on Nintendo systems. It's like they don't want to give their games the best chance to sell...
Anyway, my thoughts on this release are simple. Must have gyro aiming and local co-op. It appears both are supported so I'm in... Except it seems only R2 has local, which would be a shame since the ghost ship raid level from R1 is the best ever.
@gatorboi352 Thats nothing, Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition comes out at Xmas. And thats just a DLC included edition....
I'm okay with the first being on cartridge and the second being digital download but both games should only be $20 or $10 each. No way am I buying this for $40. Sorry Crapcom you can't just sell old craps for full price.
Seeing as how I can already play both of these games on the go (3DS for #1, Vita for #2), I can't figure out why they wouldn't give Resident Evil 4-6 the Switch treatment.
Go back and pick up on revelations 2! It's fantastic!
@blaisedinsd Ah. I might have played more of Nano Assault if I could have played my copy on the Circle Pad Pro. Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater is also worth giving a shout out for as a good game for the CPP - I've stalled at the last Boss, should give it a try again soon...
@IceClimbers Source on, like, any of that? I know about the DLCs but I'm curious how local single joycon play would work with only one stick per controller.
Meh, not a fan of the Revelations games. Not something I'd want to play on the go either, so I have no interest in a Switch version.
@IceClimbers Nice! I had the first Revelations game on both 3DS and Wii U, but never got round to finishing it on either platform. I'll definitely be grabbing both on Switch, where I'm confident that the novelty of having motion control aiming and HD rumble will help ensure I finish both instalments this time around.
@yuwarite Hey?! Then why bother clicking on the article.. or even posting this comment? 😕
Definitely buying the 2nd game for switch. First I will leave as done everything possible with the 3DS version.
Playing this on my commute to work is gonna be so dope.
I'd rather have the real Resident Evil 1 and 2 and 3 whilst I'm at it 😃. The first Revelations was pretty good at the time and given the technology though the second wasn't anything special. Bit cheeky charging so much for these but then again this is a company who thinks it's reasonable to charge 40 quid for Street Fighter 2 in 2017
@Ralizah backlash for VII? I thought most fans loved it, especially after the garbage that was 6
They should have released both in sept. 28th, because, you know.
Even as a RE fan I am not buying this. I own the original RE Revelations on 3DS, great game, and never played RER2, but downloaded it on PS4. If both games were included on a cartridge I'd have bought this no question due to my collector instinct. But physical only has RER1. Too bad. :-/
Will raid be unlocked at start? That's fun to replay.
Ohh Hell yaaahhh i cant wait so so pumped i loved mercs on 3ds was awesome with a friend. Two great games low price im in
@carlos82 Some fans love it. Some fans hate the changes. It hasn't been universally embraced or rejected, either way.
Capcom would have been better off making it a new I.P.
What I've seen of it seems nothing like classic RE.
@ThomasBW84, the mere fact the Switch is getting a port of a Resident Evil game is already an achievement in and of itself, especially given Capcom's last Switch outing was the nth iteration of its most-milked entry in their most milked franchise.
The fact it's not out by Halloween is far from the point.
There's too many great games coming out in October so I'm fine with it getting a November release
@Kingrat RE7 is the third best RE in the series behind 4 and 2... IMO.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE First time I agree with you!!
@Ralizah have you played 7?
I've played RE1 and 2 and they are like knock off versions of 5, without the insistent co-op.
These are actually the first mature rated shooters on switch! I can't wait to blast through raid mode in RE 2 in local co-op! I wish the switch had more third person shooters 🙁
I'm taking a wait and see approach. Deus Ex on the Wii U had horrible analogue stick dead zones that couldn't be customised making aiming for me extremely frustrating. I heard that the issue also existed in Resident Evil Revelations on the Wii U so I skipped it and bought it cheap for PS3.
If the dead zone issues are non existant on the Switch version, I may bite.
The lack of a physical release for Rev 2 however is a disappointment.
I'm worried these won't have voice chat as all ports so far to the switch have dropped the voice chat option due to having to intergrate it with the app! (Mario kart, Minecraft)
how many times can they re-release revelations?
Just a warning, there is word going around that the motion aiming in this might just amount to pointing towards an enemy to auto-aim.
Not confirmed yet, but if true this has to be the most disdainful implementation of motion aiming yet. Does Capcom look down on Nintendo gamers, or what?
And they both include motion, just like RE4 on Wii!And they include HD RumbleRun that. I'm all over this
Oh come on Capcom, stop rereleasing your old games and give us something new for a change.
@JaxonH Maybe not just like RE4, read my post above. If true this is extremely worrying and completely erases any real interest from me. But I have to admit, it totally sounds like Capcom and their tendency to totally f*** up practically every good idea they have with nonsensical decisions.
If the aiming is similar to RE4, I will buy two copies, one for me, another for the wife. Please don't do us like this Capcom!
They are good games, not as good as the old Resident Evil games or Resident Evil VII but good anyway.
Revelations had a choppy performance on Wii U which I expect to be ironed out on Switch. It will be interesting to see how Revelations 2, a more demanding game with much bigger settings and modern effects, runs on Switch.
@gatorboi352
I disagree. Re7 is a great game for sure, but the Revelations games are more than worthy of the franchise name. They feature item management, limited ammo, puzzles, and frightful environments. They are quintessential Resident Evil games.
@JaxonH
They both include motion? Where did you see that?
I want to buy them again for the Switch but only having one of the games on a cartridge is extremely off-putting. I always go physical over digital when given the option but having one physical and one digital would just bug me.
@ACK
Eh, Idk where you heard that from. I'll wait til there's evidence to worry about that. I sincerely doubt they'll do it any different than the last time
@gatorboi352 Played some of 7. It was excellent, but what I played didn't feel like Resident Evil to me.
Also, the Revelations game are still pretty action-oriented, but at least Revelations 1 still has a level of tension and creepiness to it that was missing in 5 and 6
i picked up revelations on wii u for £6.99 on Wii U e-shop the other week, hopefully they will port more RE to switch though
Truthfully, this is a pretty weird collection. Only RER1 on cartridge despite RER2 being newer and having never released on a Nintendo system. Only RER2 has local co-op despite being only downloadable and RER1 including it in lastgen versions (except WiiU). Include motion controls but potentially handicap them by mistakenly catering to easy, casual play. Sounds like a Capcom port, I guess.
If they're going to re-release something why not make it Tatsunoko vs Capcom HD? It's obvious there's no Monster Hunter World coming. Or XX for the west. No Marvel vs Capcom infinite. No Street fighter V. No Dragon Ball Fighterz or other unique fighting games. This is the perfect time for Capcom to re-release something that was totally unique to a Nintendo platform. Switch owners would eat it up just like they do all of the New Geo and retro re re re re re re re re re- releases as of late.
@Ralizah for me it felt more like Resident Evil then any in the series since 3, although it really needs to be played on Madhouse mode (which really should be unlocked from the beginning) as it really changes the experience and makes Jack stalk you like Nemesis did
Resident Evil VII is a great game but it deviates so much that some fans were disappointed and that is understandable.
My favourite Resident Evil game is Resident Evil Remake. The Xbox One/PS4 release includes optional modern controls for this and for Zero plus the HD graphics. RE2 is also a great game and it's being remade for the current generation. Code Veronica has a developed and interesting story and it's one of the best games. RE3 is more action-oriented. 4... everybody knows 4, right? My least favourite is 5. RE6 is not as bad as people say, at least on current-gen consoles it plays smoothly and has different campaigns, each one with a different approach.
Revelations is a nice game with a story which is a bit too novelistic. Revelations 2 is a better game, in my opinion, except for Moira, also known as the swearing machine but later on she makes a bit more sense. I won't spoil anything though.
@JaxonH To be more thorough, the original Famitsu article claims, "aiming at the creature lines up the aiming in-game. But it's different from RE4 because there's no on-screen cursor."
@gatorboi352
Preach
@Switch99 Considering I'm not the only one saying that, I don't know why you felt the need to single me out...
@ACK
If that's the case then I'll just play it normally. No loss, although it would have been a fantastic addition.
Either way, it's got HD Rumble which is awesome.
Yes! I was wanting a horror game! This will do, not quite hallloween but I don't mind as it will be winter in U.K so shorts days but long dark cold night with res evil and switch
Nope. Not supporting this crap. For Capcom to cheap out and not include the second game on the cartridge is unacceptable. The release is inexplicably budget priced as well. Just charge US$50-$60 and put both of the games on the cartridge for God's sake! They could have issued a limited release with both games at least.
I already own Revelations on 3DS and Wii U, and while I was hoping for Revelations 2 on Switch, Capcom's handling of its release is contemptible and completely stupid. I don't need a third copy of the first game.
Unless they issue a proper physical release that includes both games or at least Revelations 2 on cartridge, then I won't be supporting this release. Maybe at a heavily discounted price on the eShop, but Capcom's contemptible handling of this release has been demoralising to the point that I wouldn't want to support them even if it comes to that. Between this and the news that publishers can withhold the entirety of the game from the cartridge is a worrying sign for the future of the platform. Considering that several games have been retailing for as little as US$20 (AU$40 here) suggests that Switch cartridges are not as expensive as many are suggesting. I can't remember any DS, 3DS or Wii U game for that matter being released at for such a low suggested retail price (and when considering inflation, many retail Switch games are an absolute bargain!), wirh the only exception being the Selects range on 3DS.
Loved revelations 1, will probably go the digital route for these 2, can anyone tell me is 2 as good as 1?
I never got around playing 2. Worth it?
So now they'll skip the ideal time to sell a horror game, then place this within weeks of Ni No Kuni2, Battlefront 2, Pokemon UltraSun+Moon, and possibly Skyrim for NS. Not looking good.
@psylockerules I played Rev2 in co-op and thought it was really fun. Honestly may still double-dip.
Yesss! I skipped the Wii U version because I was waiting for gyro update.
It sure took its time, but finally it's coming and it took the sequel to go with it! Yey!!!
If it even had a local wireless co-op, I would buy many copies at high price.
@retro_player_22 Both games at launch were 40. Getting both games bundled together for 40 is a good deal.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The PS4 and X1 versions are the same I believe. Physical for the first game and digital for the second.
@Indielink @SLIGEACH_EIRE No, Revelations 2 was originally released in episodic form digitally, but all four episodes were bundled together with additional content and released on disc for both PS4 and XB1 a couple years ago.
Addressing something in the review, I will say that having played Revelations 2 as a full game and not in bits and pieces as it was released does make a difference. I would recommend it to anyone who was turned off by being drip-fed those "episodes".
would be awesome to have both games in a card. But this is pretty cool anyhoo.
@Ralizah 'What I've seen of it seems nothing like classic RE.'
So you haven't played re7? I have, in psvr. You're missing out on one of the best games this year!
It's stunning looking playing without vr also.
Do yourself a favour and get the game with ALL the dlc at Christmas and try it for yourself.
I love this new first person Ressy path. And I also love the Revelation games, I'll buy 2. 6 can go and sh*te.
Bring 4 and 5 to the switch along with the remakes capcom!!!!
Getting just the 2nd on switch since I already have 1st on my Wii U. Decent enough games, better then the number entries have been for years.
You'd be far, far better picking up Axiom Verge which is launching (roughly) a week before Halloween for your scares of sorts. A better game in every department.
how do you miss the opportunity to release this for or close to Halloween?
@readyletsgo the demo for RE7 made me feel like I was gonna have a heart attack lol, kinda scared me to play the full game
Any idea how big the file size for #2? Im gonna have my card full by the time this comes out with 2k fifa etc? This could be deal breaker to me even though i really want RE on my switch.
I have just never been that interested in this series. But I hope it sells well on the Switch, to encourage Capcom to keep more games coming to the platform.
@ValhallaOutcast haha, yeah, it's that scary good. They are on the right path with re7, just wish it sold more so we get more of that instead of re6, but it didn't sell well, prob because that demo was too scary lol.
@readyletsgo I'm guessing it's because Derpcom's sales estimates were too high for what is effectively a niche game. Horror is usually hit or miss with people.
The first was awesome but never got around to picking up the sequel. I'll definitely pick this up.
Same here I never got around to finishing the first but I did have it, wanted the 2nd and until now got screwed out of it so I'll grab it. Not happy the sequel is a lame code one bit, but the price is still pretty fair either way as at least one game is legit in the package.
I haven't played a RE game since the 2nd and I'm not a horror fan but... I'll be sure to get them! I kind of want to give it a try.
Hope they release RE Remake and Zero for Switch
Only bummer here is Revelations 2 being digital-only. That's gonna take up a lot of space :/
I had a great time with the first Revelations. I usually dont like these but there are a couple im pretty fond of. Dont know if I will get Revelations but probably part 2. I hope it has the cool online co-op
Guess I'll just bite the bullet and download Revelations 2 on its own. Played enough of Revelations 1 on 3DS and Wii U. I have 2 in its entirety on PS3 but never beat it. Now that my PS3 is put away for my PS4 I might revisit it. Or... just get it really cheap on PS4 sometime. Hell, Capcom. I'd have taken a new Mercenaries 3D style game over a rerelease of something that didn't completely wow me on another system. Main thing I liked about 2 was the raid mode, and I feel I'd have a better partner on Switch.
@IceClimbers Thank so much for this info. Definitely picking this up now that I know motion aiming was implemented. We need more gyro FPS on Switch! That is how you lure in the masses! Once people see how superior gyro aiming is compared to analog, they'll never want to go back. Splatoon has spoiled us. lol
I would have preferred resident evil 5 and 6 rather then revelations.
@Joelols 26gb. So it won't fit on a Switch without a microSD card. Get used to this.
Okay, Capcom, if you can put these on Switch you can certainly put Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 on Switch.
Throw a Mega Man fan a bone here.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE who gives a poop about regions, the console is region free for the first time ever and your still talking about regions.
@YANDMAN I won't be importing anything, nor paying a small fortune for postage and customs. Thanks.
@ACK I imagine the motion aiming would be lifted off 3DS verbatim... and I don't recall auto-aiming aspects there from what I've played so far.
11/28 - my birthday, and my favorite portable shooter comes out with (if the other comments are to be believed), motion control options and split-screen coop support. Can't wait!
Really enjoyed the first one on 3DS, i hear the second isn't as good, but id love to do the raid online on switch, so ill be getting this for sure. Closest to RE4 ill get on the Switch for now. I'd buy that a fourth time if it ever came to the Switch.
@Menchi187 yeah people need to get use to this. If you want 3rd parties bringing over big titles then you gonna have to accept that you will need a micro SD card.
Considering the first revelations is 13GB and will have physical release that tells me that capcom didn't want to pay for more expensive 32GB cards for revelations 2.
This is how it's gonna be for majority of publishers. The 32GB carts are too expensive.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I imported a Switch game from Play Asia. €8 shipping, no customs fees.
yes im pretty sure I had it when I had a dreamcast as well though I literally cannot remember playing it , so this is like playing it for the first time again. It feels very much like one of the earlier resident evils on PS1! which is no bad thing in my book! no spoilers please @samuelvictor
@Menchi187 He was talking about America. Far more likely to get hit by customs from there. I've ordered countless items from Asia and never got stung by customs. A lot of them lie about the value of the goods on the packaging as well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I did get stuffed with customs on my Hori RAPV for Switch though, also from Play Asia. But that was because it had to use FedEx shipping. At the end of it, even with customs and shipping, it came out at the same price as if I'd bought from amazon.co.uk with courier shipping, so I didn't really lose anything.
@Shy_Guy I'd love to see those too, REmake is still my favourite in the series. The remasters hit PS3/360 as well as the current gen so no real reason they couldn't run on Switch I'd say.
@flapjack-ashley I'm aware of that. I'm saying that this R1/2 bundle is in the same format on all 3 systems.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I import tons every week and it doesnt cost almost anything more to import. Customs charges are now factored into the postage when you check-out. On average it costs me maybe about £3-4 extra in customs charges.
