Re: Mario Kart World Announces 'Summer Vacation Skill Test' Event

@ImpromptuR
Let me reassure you, your complaint is one of the most nothing complaints I've ever read in my life and the only reason I commented was to point out the absurdity of it.

Nintendo doesn't care, I don't care, and most of the Southern hemisphere does not care.

As someone who lived in the Southern hemisphere for most of my life, the season being different than mine in a video game event was never something that bothered me or my friends or any other human being I've ever met.

Re: Switch 2 Has Sold "More Than 6 Million" Units, And Almost As Many Copies Of Mario Kart World

@JH64 That's the thing, it didn't have to.

It was a new concept making console games portable, something that is not new now.

Also Breath of the Wild. It came out on the Wii U, but nobody bought the Wii U.

Mario Kart is expected in every console. Zelda is a system seller and Breath of the Wild is a game that will be in history as one of the most influential games of all time.

@BTB20 That is an absurd exaggeration of my argument and it wasn't present at all in my comment. Stop exaggerating for drama. If you paid attention to my comments you would've noticed I even stated the Switch 2 will sell a lot, just not as much as the first one.

The Switch was extremely successful due to its quality games, but let's not deny the ability of being a console and a portable definitely made it unique and boosted its sales.

The Switch 2 has slightly improved specs, looks the same, the mouse novelty will go largely unused, it barely has exclusives, most games coming to it are inferior versions of games already present in other consoles. There's also the key cart solutions and the £80 games.

It won't stop it from being successful because it's Nintendo's new console, but Nintendo is making every possible effort to make it less appealing for consumers.

Now, on a personal note, I think it's an absolute crap console that is overpriced, without games and it has no inherent appeal besides being the "new console".

Re: Switch 2 Has Sold "More Than 6 Million" Units, And Almost As Many Copies Of Mario Kart World

@rockodoodle I know people who are casuals who don't see the point of a Switch 2 because it looks the same.

It's not just about graphics, it's about being considered unique and justified.

The Switch 2 doesn't differentiate itself enough from the Switch to stand out as much as the Switch 1 did.

This is not going to make it an unsuccessful product, but if just 20% of people don't seem it worthy enough for an upgrade, that's 30 million units.

Edit: I also heard people complaining about the price of games. When the Switch released in the UK new games were £50 on average, they're now at around £70. This is a "little brother" or "kids" console with very high prices (from a parent point of view). I have a friend whose son has a Switch and he has absolutely no plans of buying the Switch 2 because in his mind it's more expensive for the same thing.

Don't underestimate the power price has on people not buying products.

Re: Switch 2 Has Sold "More Than 6 Million" Units, And Almost As Many Copies Of Mario Kart World

@Joshslone7 I never said it's going to be unsuccessful.

I also don't think consoles need to sell more and more, but I doubt Nintendo shareholders agree with you and me.

I'm just pointing out that the Switch 2 feels pointless and I don't think the Switch 1 being the most successful console of all time has to do with it.

It's severely underpowered, it has almost no new features compared to it's predecessor, game key carts are ridiculous and it has no games.

The numbers lie as the success is attached to the Switch 1. This console is a lot less now than the Switch 1 was at its time.

Re: Switch 2 Has Sold "More Than 6 Million" Units, And Almost As Many Copies Of Mario Kart World

The Switch 1 sold 150 million units and for a while Mario Kart was the only first party Switch 2. There are very few games for the Switch 2 and the direct was pathetic.

My prediction is the Switch 2 will sell absurdly well for the first few years due to people wanting to upgrade the console, but it will severely slow down as the novelty of the Switch is gone and the Switch 2 is not as new and appealing.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Switch 2 will come even close to the Switch 1 in units sold. It has too many caveats to be a "true evolution".

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Pat_trick

@Beetlebum91 I remember that! It's crazy that Bethesda chose that criteria to give or not give the bonus. Especially because Obsidian had a time pressure to pump the game out quickly and had to release it in a very buggy state.

For me it was a really unfair situation for Obsidian.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Pat_trick

The important question is, does it matter? Who takes Metacritic user scores seriously?

I'm generally quite suspicious of scores of 0 or 10, because they're generally out of spite or blind love for a game.

It's much more constructive to read what's written on a review than to check an arbitrary number that has no meaning by itself.

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

Pat_trick

@electrolite77 Your response is huge wall of text which could be summed up with a shrug.

Historically when people stop consuming products because they're price gouging the prices come down.

Nintendo is arrogant because they know they don't need to discount their products. If a message was sent to them, they would lower the price or discount it more frequently.

Don't forget that when the Switch came out, it's games were cheaper than PS4 games.

They're doing this because they sold 150 million consoles and a ton of games. If they fall, they'll be humbled like they have been before.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Cross-Progression Confirmed, Performance & Resolution Detailed

@GrailUK No problem. I wasn't the friendliest either. Most of my frustration stems from the fact that I love Nintendo games and I feel they're taking advantage of me and every Nintendo fan because of our nostalgia and love for their IPs.

I think you're right about the price cut. If they cut the price of the console a few years down the line it will definitely revitalise interest in the console.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Cross-Progression Confirmed, Performance & Resolution Detailed

Pat_trick

@johnvboy Because Nintendo also had a N64, a GameCube and a Wii U that failed.

You're very narrowly focused on the success of the Switch without analysing Nintendo's past failures.

The Switch 2 won't fail, but the novelty is over.

There's much less reason to buy a Switch 2 than there was to buy a Switch. The casual market made the Switch and they won't be so keen to buy a console that's so similar with very expensive games.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Cross-Progression Confirmed, Performance & Resolution Detailed

Pat_trick

@GrailUK "Let me try to spell this for you" I can do without your condescending arrogance.

The Wii U had a similar strategy and failed miserably.

Let me spell this out for you:

The Switch was a completely new concept when it came out, the Switch 2 isn't. The novelty is dead.

The Switch sold buttloads during COVID, for obvious reasons.

The casual audience won't upgrade to a Switch 2 without a very good reason as the consoles are way too similar.

The Switch 2 is not going to fail, but it won't be the success the Switch was by a longshot.
