Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Price Drops, Remake Replacements, Pokémon Acquisitions - Nintendo Life Letters

@electrolite77 Your response is huge wall of text which could be summed up with a shrug.

Historically when people stop consuming products because they're price gouging the prices come down.

Nintendo is arrogant because they know they don't need to discount their products. If a message was sent to them, they would lower the price or discount it more frequently.

Don't forget that when the Switch came out, it's games were cheaper than PS4 games.

They're doing this because they sold 150 million consoles and a ton of games. If they fall, they'll be humbled like they have been before.

@GrailUK No problem. I wasn't the friendliest either. Most of my frustration stems from the fact that I love Nintendo games and I feel they're taking advantage of me and every Nintendo fan because of our nostalgia and love for their IPs.

I think you're right about the price cut. If they cut the price of the console a few years down the line it will definitely revitalise interest in the console.

@johnvboy Because Nintendo also had a N64, a GameCube and a Wii U that failed.

You're very narrowly focused on the success of the Switch without analysing Nintendo's past failures.

The Switch 2 won't fail, but the novelty is over.

There's much less reason to buy a Switch 2 than there was to buy a Switch. The casual market made the Switch and they won't be so keen to buy a console that's so similar with very expensive games.

@GrailUK "Let me try to spell this for you" I can do without your condescending arrogance.

The Wii U had a similar strategy and failed miserably.

Let me spell this out for you:

The Switch was a completely new concept when it came out, the Switch 2 isn't. The novelty is dead.

The Switch sold buttloads during COVID, for obvious reasons.

The casual audience won't upgrade to a Switch 2 without a very good reason as the consoles are way too similar.

The Switch 2 is not going to fail, but it won't be the success the Switch was by a longshot.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom On Nintendo Switch 2

@Duboiss So you're willing to pay whatever price they want for this unique experience?

There's a point consumers need to think and put their foot down on prices.

If everyone follows the logic you're presenting, Nintendo can keep increasing their prices however they want.

We do have a voice and we do have power, after all if we don't buy their products, they don't make money.

Look at the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo had to slash its price because no one was buying.

Re: Sale Predictions Remain Unchanged Despite Switch 2 Price Concerns

Pat_trick

Early adopters and Nintendo fans will definitely buy the console.

The problem with the Switch 2 is going to be having long legs. A lot of Switch owners are casual gamers ans and parents who don't want to spend a fortune on games.

There's also the fact that more likely than not a PS6 will release early in the Switch 2's life and will divert the attention from it. Third party games will be more graphically demanding and the Switch is severely underpowered.

I think the Switch 2 will be to the Switch what the 3DS was to the DS. A success, but not a massive one like it's predecessor.

Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?

Pat_trick

@AlonditeFE

That's a fair point. But I also think it would open a new range for AA games.

AA has basically vanished because it was squeezed between AAA and Indies.

Now they can establish themselves in the 40-60 range while the small indies can offer lower prices.

At the end of the day, if games like Undertale and Stardew Valley were priced at $30, I doubt they would have succeeded as much as they have.

A lot of people frown at old school graphics and limitations and for indie games to thrive they need to offer competitive prices.

Square Eniz tried to go AAA with the pricing of their 2D-HD games, and while the strategy initially worked, their more recent games failed to garner enough attention.

The exception being Dragon Quest, but Dragon Quest is a Behemoth in Japan.

It's going to be good for smaller developers and bad for AAA ones in the future.

These games will have to justify their price more than ever, while a smaller developer can make a solid game for $30 and people will love it's pricing.

With the exception of flagship titles, the AAA is struggling and it's going to become even harder with these ridiculous prices and competitors with smaller, more efficient and creative teams will thrive.

Also, Nintendo has officially beaten Sony and Microsoft in terms of greediness.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)

@Jeronan Is Breath of The Wild a new game? Tears of the Kingdom?

Your argument fell apart in your first sentence.

Edit:

You're also wrong about them just being made compatible, they had some minor graphic and frame rate improvements.

Witcher 3 was entirely revamped for the PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West was also improved.

Some of the improved games were free upgrades for a long period before you had to pay the $10.

I bought my PS5 less than one year after it released and upgraded a lot of games for free, even disc based ones.

@Not_Soos I'll derail and then retail at the end XD

He's been in litigation several times for groups that have disagreed with him, he banned the word "cis" on X because he called it a slur, which fair game, but those are not the actions of a "free speech absolutist".

There are several examples of him supporting governments that practice censorship but he doesn't care because it favors him financially.

He's more accepting of criticism than certain groups, but he clearly censors and intimidate in certain cases. After doing some research I see him as a hypocrite. I advise you searching for his lawsuits and the governments he supports and reach your own conclusions. You might end up disagreeing with me which is totally fine.

Fantasy Life! I really liked the relaxing vibe of the originalz also the idea of having several different professions with different gameplay styles always appealed to me. Games that do that are super rare and only FFXIV comes to mind when I think about it.

I am cautiously optimistic about the game too, because as you said, Level 5 is not the same it was a decade ago.

I'm still hoping for a good game because Fantasy Life occupies a very specific niche that no other developer seems to be willing to fill.

Fingers crossed!
