Power A controllers are pretty meh if you ask me. The d pad is a bit rough on the thumb due to what I feel are some kinda sharp edges and they feel pretty light and cheap in a sense. Otherwise the basic functionality is there from a traditional controller stand point but all the other bells and whistles of the pro controller and joycons is missing.
The biggest appeal they have is a swath of designs they offer, but almost all their wireless controllers run on AA's so you're paying more in the long run unless you use rechargables.
As much as I think it would be beneficial lending more credence to Switch as a legit platform, Madden as it is now is a shell of it's former self vs even 10 years ago. They put so much effort into MUT and The Yard where the can perpetually monetize the f*** out of it's gullible fantasy players, they've barely put much work into franchise mode in almost a decade now since '12.
Reparations? I honestly don't know how a loose-knit community with no central competitive managing body can pay such things? There's no official "league" that is responsible for the organization of tournaments like these vs other competitive games out there. Nintendo doesn't really organize or run certain things in this regard like other publishers do. They just sponsor. This is all fan run and organized and it's all a loose association of different tournaments.
I'm not saying the victims don't deserve such things nor should they not speak out and the community should be more transparent on everything. But it's not like there's a central organization like MLG or something that is responsible and oversees these kinds of tournaments that would be directly responsible for damages to the victims.
I wasn't expecting the PS5 version to be anything more than a slightly enhanced PS4 version which is pretty much almost what every cross-generational game release around this time is going to be. The good news for Switch is that it can still benefit from the one to two year bleed over and still get some multiplats as well as still keep interest up with a hardware refresh/pro model next year.
Switch in general is still selling too well for Nintendo to abandon it anytime soon which is why I'm expecting it's successor maybe around holiday 2022. By that time PS5 and XSX will be in full gear and Nintendo can release a more comparable successor to the 9th gen boxes that can still get third parties on board.
They both have their pros and cons, but I ultimately will always go physical unless the digital copy is on sale/significantly cheaper or it's something like Animal Crossing where it's a daily check-in kind of game and swapping cartridges makes it a bit more inconvenient.
Wii's online is completely dead and Wii U and 3DS are slowly being wound down officially as time moves on. Even the PS3 and 360 are starting to go the same route. Many games on 7th gen hardware are no longer available digitally due to licensing and physical copies haven't been printed in years in-turn driving up prices on the second hand market.
Unfortunately the PS5 and XSX are probably going to be the last traditional console generation where physical games will still be an option. Once everything goes completely digital be it digital download and/or streaming, it's ultimately just more limiting choice to the consumer and people are further at the mercy of digital store fronts and licensing not expiring.
If you wanted to reach the "mass consumer who may not want to pay a premium" for hardware, you'd have priced your box at a minimum $100 cheaper than it is now. As it stands, the VCS offers nothing more than what even the base PS4 and XB1 offer.
Throwing a bunch of retro Atari games on an under-powered linux PC box hoping the name cash-in will somehow diversify yourselves from the already cluttered streaming box market isn't gonna get you very far, especially when you're planning on launching your box right at the height of the PS5 and Series X fervor that will inevitably happen this holiday.
I will at least give something like the Intellevision Amico a bit more credit given it's unique controllers and something exclusive like EJ3 they're working on.
As much as people and the industry try to hype up mobile gaming as a replacement for dedicated home hardware, you then read stories like this. The mobile market places are 80% unplayable garbage. Nevermind the fact a touch screen interface is never going to be a worthwhile replacement for a dedicated controller or mouse/keyboard for gaming for the games that need that kind of tactile control.
The vast majority of people over the age of 13 aren't going to carry a controller or controller shell for their phone to play something more dedicated for that kind on input on their mobile device. If it can't be played well on the stock touchscreen when you take your phone of out of your pocket, most people aren't gonna bother playing it or supporting it.
Meanwhile, all the billions of dollars the industry touts that digital gaming makes annually, a vast majority of that is spent on microtransactions on games like candy crush and not on $60 AAA game sales on console/pc. Mobile should almost be considered it's own segment of the gaming industry and not lumped together with other parts of the market imo. It's never going to be a dedicated home hardware killer like many think it will, at least not anywhere in the foreseeable future.
The show is on Hulu. It's alright if you're a Sonic fan and haven't watched it. I'd put it a notch above Sonic X but not quite as good as Sonic SatAM if I'm gonna compare it to past Sonic cartoons.
If it's already been three years since the last season wrapped up airing, I'm only surprised it took so long to confirm the show was over.
Sonic 3 has been caught up with Michael Jackson's estate and music rights since he helped develop some of the soundtrack for the game. It's why you haven't seen any ports of Sonic 3 on Sega compilations since the PS3/360's Genesis Collections because Sega doesn't want to potentially risk having to pay royalties on the game.
I think most people don't care about Fortnite on here because the primary user base of the game is under 16. The stupid amount of money Epic makes off that game is nothing short of extraordinary. All you have to see is the ridiculous fervor kids had over getting a code for the damn minty-pickaxe over Christmas time last year to get a taste of what borderline obsession kids have with the game. I'm sure Epic will have a PS5 and Series X version ready to go for launch. Too much money to be made not putting it on next-gen consoles even if it doesn't have the peak of it's player base it's enjoyed in the last year or so.
I passed on the original at full price, but picked it up on sale at $20 last year and it was pretty solid in my book. Nothing ground-breaking mind you even compared to the era from which it's inspired, but still some fun to be had. I also picked up the retail copy of the Impossible Lair for $10 on BF last year also which I don't regret at all. There fun to be had on both games at the right price point.
They really should save MK9 for the Switch's successor in my book. I know 8 is technically 5 1/2 years old now, but only a handful of those who bought it on Switch also had it on Wii U. And 8 still sells ridiculously well. I know Nintendo needs to pump out content for their console, but you don't want to over-saturate certain franchises. Keeping certain ones to one per generation like MK has served Nintendo well to keep things fresh. But imo it's also why it's important for them to dip back into franchises like Star Fox or F-Zero to be able to round out their yearly release calendar.
It's just one giant Nintendo commercial, but kids these days just don't know how amazing it was to really see SMB3 for the first time for many kids in NA even though it had been out in Japan for almost a year at this point. With the internet, you'll never really be able to replicate that sort of reveal again nowadays.
The "import" scene in the US really didn't get going until the mid to late 1990s with the rise of the internet, so while I'm sure a handful of people in the west got a chance to play games like this month in advance, the vast majority of western gamers relied heavily on publications and things like this for their gaming news and reveals.
I'd bet the farm we'll probably see a Skyward Sword HD sooner than later. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo kept the game in the oven long enough to release alongside the Switch and Switch successor in 2022. They seem to have good success launching Zelda games with their new hardware.
One of the few of the plethora of Sega Saturn shmups to actually get a western release. Most were left in Japan. Very underrated shooter in my book and worth the price of admission on Switch if you like them and haven't played it before.
@KitsuneNight I already downloaded that day one when it came out months ago as well as Blazing Chrome. I know the game isn't great, but $20 isn't astronomical and retail copies on certain games aren't gonna float around forever, especially those that don't sell particularly well.
Finally broke down and bought a Zacian Edition Swith Lite and got the $25 Gift Coupon from GS they were offering as well as a few games on sale. It'll be my primary on the go system while my launch unit will probably stay married to the TV.
Bought it for $20 over BF weekend to give it a chance as I sure as hell wasn't gonna pay full price let alone money for the season pass. This just made it a bit nicer to make that money spent worth it a bit more.
They might just be holding onto MP Trilogy HD to help round out next year's fiscal release calendar and to have it be a better stop gap until MP4 is ready to launch maybe in 2021. A lot of this does make sense, but I think a Samus Returns port from 3DS to Switch makes a lot of sense too. Many people missed out on that one because it definitely released in the dying days of the handheld to say the lead.
The movie might still not wind up being all that great even despite the low bar video game movies have in general, but at least he looks 80% closer to what he's supposed to now.
As nice as it would be, Switch is going to start seeming a bit long in the tooth especially as we get into the one year after launch of the 9th gen consoles. It already has some issues running 8th gen games without having to scale them back and ports of 9th gen games could be completely out of the question. I think sometime in 2022 would be a good time to launch a more powerful successor. To put it more in line with 9th gen hardware and to maybe get some better third party support down the line.
Garfield has sadly been pretty much garbage on anything outside of the comics since the original Saturday morning animated series back in the 90's. RIP Lorenzo Music.
I think it can still have some legs as a budget system especially if they cut the price on the New 2DS XL down to $119 and the 2DS to $60. There are still plenty of games on the system that could get the Selects treatment as well.
I mean it's hard to say. SFV is going to stay PS exclusive. You could ask for a port of USFIV. I don't think any would want MvCI at this juncture either. I suppose if Capcom winds up doing a SFVI on 9th gen hardware down the road you could ask for a version there, but it makes you wonder if the Switch could handle it given some 8th gen ports don't run all that great depending on the game and the development team doing the port. 9th gen ports of games might only be viable on whatever Nintendo comes out with in a few years with the Switch's successor.
I'm honestly not expecting MK9 until the Switch's successor in few years. MK8DX is still selling well enough to keep it as the system's major kart racing title, and the one MK per system/console cycle has served them well enough in sales and to keep the series fresh with each new iteration.
Mario Kart Tour is pretty meh, but it's the mobile space so I give it a pass. When they're giving you the game for free and you're basically relegated to using the touch-screen, it's never going to be a truly representative experience compared to the dedicated versions on console.
The Switch has still got at a minimum a couple more years in the tank. It's going to last well into the 9th generation after PS5 and Scarlett launch.
I don't know if the "Pro" route is now in the system's future, but if this chip could get a similar bump to what the "New" 3DS line did, then I could see another revision coming yet still. Maybe give the flagship system at a minimum the ability to render media and upscale games to 4K when docked even if it won't be native 4K.
Fortnite alone has made Epic enough money they're basically trying to become Valve 2.0 even if the Epic store itself is garbage compared to Steam.
The game has been out for two years now and while they're still raking in the duckets, they probably noticed a slight drop in players and users this year and doing something like this will definitely draw eyeballs again to the game.
I'm sure there are at least a handful of kids out there who are losing their shit right now because they can't play their current obsession.
I'm surprised they found am employee at all to help them open the case. You've generally got one associate running three separate departments a lot of the time and one of many reasons why I've never been a fan of shopping there in general.
That's too bad, but you could tell 3DS game sales have fallen off a cliff the last couple of years. Once Pokemon moved over to Switch with LGP&E and Sword and Shield this year, the writing was officially on the wall for the handheld. The Switch Lite was the final nail in the coffin for the 3DS as far as a supported platform.
At this point 3DS is basically a budget/entry level system which still has a nice library of games on it, and Nintendo can probably keep it on life support a little while longer with some additional budget titles but it's going to disappear from most retailers sooner than later if it hasn't already.
Definitely wouldn't pay full price for it at least. Maybe on sale down to $20 or $30, but a half-ass effort doesn't deserve full MSRP on this one. The sad thing is though the poor critical reception and "legacy" branding will lead to weaker sales and then EA will come out next year and claim "Nintendo fans just don't buy our games" and FIFA 21 in any capacity won't be on Switch.
Yeah, the versions of DQ I, II, and III on Switch are mobile ports and seem to have some scaling issues as you walk around on and just don't look very good imo. Maybe being played on a small smartphone screen hid some of these issues and are not benefited being blown up on a TV screen.
Playing a translated Super Famicom version or the DW GBC ports are probably still better ways to play the classic ones.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised Walgreens was sitting on over a million dollars worth of unsold Sega clones. I remember them sitting on shelves the few times I've been there in recent years. They're not exactly the first place I think of when it comes to video game related stuff though.
The Sega Genesis mini isn't perfect, but it at least seems to be decently on par with Nintendo's clones and are definitely a good notch above even AtGames "best" HD clone that still has problems. I'm guessing Sega pulling the plug on working with AtGames on the mini may have hurt them financially more than we realize hence they're trying to do these back room rights deals while trying to play out the clock on buying back unsold inventory from retailers.
Wow, something that's actually not a cheap hunk of plastic to shoehorn a wiimote or joycon into. I'd actually be more looking forward to using this with something like Grid or Gear Club.
It was definitely a nice to have something like it at the time as well as stuff like the SMB Super Show and Mario 3/World Cartoons. That being said, the show has not aged well and it wasn't even very accurate to the cartoons to begin with. It's very cheesy and not something you can watch with a very serious face nowadays.
90s kids did have it good with these shows as well as stuff like Sonic SatAM, but a lot of people also don't remember the old Saturday Supercade show from the early 80's that was the first real time video games and cartoons got mixed together.
Maybe later. Too much other stuff dropping this month to buy a second console. The nice thing about being patient is you'll get an opportunity for different special editions down the road.
GS is going to slim down and streamline, but their supposed complete blockbuster-like collapse isnt as imminent as many youtube and industry arm chair prognosticators would lead you to believe. The fact PS5 and Scarlet are going to have an optical drive in at least one iteration of their consoles is going to keep the company as a whole going for awhile yet. I don't always agree with Michael Pachter, but I do feel he's right where he thinks GS's got another console generation to try and do something to stem the loss of their used game business.
What will happen probably in the next two years is going to be a trickle of store closures starting with the 200 early next year. It's gonna be a lot of much slower stores and stores in towns that have a lot of redundant locations say where there's a location in a dying mall and then right across the parking lot or road there's a strip mall store. You don't need three stores in a 5 mile square radius of each other.
Well it's a port of a 5 year old racer from PS3/360, but at least it's something in the sim racing genre which the system is sorely lacking. PS4/XB1 are actually getting the new GRID game next month, but I suppose this is better than nothing and will probably be a nice step up from Gear Club.
I used my 3DS as a stopgap media player a few times when my phone battery was dead, and I could see the application for a younger kid who might not have anything else. But yeah the youtube app on a 3DS isn't a good substitute for a tablet or smart phone viewing option.
Not gonna get one myself, but I may get one for a family member for Christmas. I play primarily docked so even the V2 Switch with the better battery isn't worth the side-step for me personally. If the "New" or Pro version actually drops next year with some good improvements to the flagship model, then yeah I'll be on board with that day one.
The dedicated portable line of Nintendo has officially been retired now that the Big N has embraced mobile to this degree. They'll still have a dedicated platform to put the majority of their content on as long as it remains profitable for them to do so, but they days of a portable only Nintendo console seems to be done. Yes, the Switch Lite technically is portable only, but it's still spun off of a hybrid home system.
Europe has been getting treated very good by Nintendo on the LE front ever since the Wii U. They get both very awesome CE's on Astral Chain and Daemon X Machina while NA doesn't really get anything outside of just the standard copy on many of these games.
Yes I understand in the past Europe had gotten the short end of the stick on a lot of this kinda stuff, but you haven't had much room to complain for the last 5 years or so.
Sega's got a thing for viral marketing of their Monkey Ball games. A lot of people probably don't remember the Adventures of Chad video series they did to advertise Monkey Ball Deluxe back in the mid 00's, but this reminds me a lot of that.

Mario Kart Tour is pretty meh, but it's the mobile space so I give it a pass. When they're giving you the game for free and you're basically relegated to using the touch-screen, it's never going to be a truly representative experience compared to the dedicated versions on console.
Re: Rumour: Nvidia's New Tegra X1+ Chip Could Make Switch Performance "Up To 25% Faster"
Re: And Just Like That, Fortnite Is No More
Fortnite alone has made Epic enough money they're basically trying to become Valve 2.0 even if the Epic store itself is garbage compared to Steam.
The game has been out for two years now and while they're still raking in the duckets, they probably noticed a slight drop in players and users this year and doing something like this will definitely draw eyeballs again to the game.
I'm sure there are at least a handful of kids out there who are losing their shit right now because they can't play their current obsession.
Re: Walmart Breaks Street Date For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition
I'm surprised they found am employee at all to help them open the case. You've generally got one associate running three separate departments a lot of the time and one of many reasons why I've never been a fan of shopping there in general.
Re: Mario & Luigi RPG Dev AlphaDream Files For Bankruptcy
That's too bad, but you could tell 3DS game sales have fallen off a cliff the last couple of years. Once Pokemon moved over to Switch with LGP&E and Sword and Shield this year, the writing was officially on the wall for the handheld. The Switch Lite was the final nail in the coffin for the 3DS as far as a supported platform.
At this point 3DS is basically a budget/entry level system which still has a nice library of games on it, and Nintendo can probably keep it on life support a little while longer with some additional budget titles but it's going to disappear from most retailers sooner than later if it hasn't already.
Re: Review: FIFA 20 - A Shamelessly Cynical Attempt To Swindle Switch-Owning Footy Fans
Re: Poll: Four Dragon Quest Games Are Out Today On Switch, Which Are You Getting?
Yeah, the versions of DQ I, II, and III on Switch are mobile ports and seem to have some scaling issues as you walk around on and just don't look very good imo. Maybe being played on a small smartphone screen hid some of these issues and are not benefited being blown up on a TV screen.
Playing a translated Super Famicom version or the DW GBC ports are probably still better ways to play the classic ones.
Re: So, AtGames Is Having A Crazy Week
Re: Switch Is Getting An Officially-Licensed Mario Kart Racing Wheel
Wow, something that's actually not a cheap hunk of plastic to shoehorn a wiimote or joycon into. I'd actually be more looking forward to using this with something like Grid or Gear Club.
Re: Feature: 10 Strangest Moments In Captain N: The Game Master
It was definitely a nice to have something like it at the time as well as stuff like the SMB Super Show and Mario 3/World Cartoons. That being said, the show has not aged well and it wasn't even very accurate to the cartoons to begin with. It's very cheesy and not something you can watch with a very serious face nowadays.
90s kids did have it good with these shows as well as stuff like Sonic SatAM, but a lot of people also don't remember the old Saturday Supercade show from the early 80's that was the first real time video games and cartoons got mixed together.
Re: Untitled Goose Game Is Out Now, And You Can Buy It Cheap For A Limited Time
lol, the cardboard box did it for me. Metal Goose Solid confirmed!
Re: Poll: Nintendo Switch Lite Is Out Today, Are You Getting One?
Maybe later. Too much other stuff dropping this month to buy a second console. The nice thing about being patient is you'll get an opportunity for different special editions down the road.
Re: GameStop Set To Close 180 - 200 "Underperforming" Stores This Fiscal Year
GS is going to slim down and streamline, but their supposed complete blockbuster-like collapse isnt as imminent as many youtube and industry arm chair prognosticators would lead you to believe.
Re: GRID Autosport Speeds Onto Switch On September 19th
Well it's a port of a 5 year old racer from PS3/360, but at least it's something in the sim racing genre which the system is sorely lacking. PS4/XB1 are actually getting the new GRID game next month, but I suppose this is better than nothing and will probably be a nice step up from Gear Club.
Re: Pay Your Respects, The 3DS YouTube Service Has Now Ended In Japan
I used my 3DS as a stopgap media player a few times when my phone battery was dead, and I could see the application for a younger kid who might not have anything else. But yeah the youtube app on a 3DS isn't a good substitute for a tablet or smart phone viewing option.
Re: Video: Nintendo Welcomes Switch Lite To The Family With Flashy Console Trailer
Re: Mario Kart Double Dash's Special Items Are Making A Comeback With Mario Kart Tour
Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For September And October
RIP every Switch owner's wallet in September.
Re: Gallery: The Astral Chain Collector's Edition Is From Another Dimension
Europe has been getting treated very good by Nintendo on the LE front ever since the Wii U. They get both very awesome CE's on Astral Chain and Daemon X Machina while NA doesn't really get anything outside of just the standard copy on many of these games.
Yes I understand in the past Europe had gotten the short end of the stick on a lot of this kinda stuff, but you haven't had much room to complain for the last 5 years or so.
Re: Crikey, This Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Theme Music Is Infectious
Sega's got a thing for viral marketing of their Monkey Ball games. A lot of people probably don't remember the Adventures of Chad video series they did to advertise Monkey Ball Deluxe back in the mid 00's, but this reminds me a lot of that.

Re: EA Looking To Bring More Of Its Successful Games To Switch
GW2, Sims 4, Madden, and the new Need for Speed make sense on Switch in my book.
