PowerA has already released a range of Animal Crossing-themed controllers, and its next one appears to be based on Nook Inc. According to Amazon, the controller will arrive on 1st April and pre-orders are available now.
This is the same enhanced wireless design, that many other PowerA controllers use. Here's the rundown, along with some additional images:
- Wireless Controller with Bluetooth 5.0 Technology + rechargeable lithium-ion battery: up to 30 hours per charge
- Two mappable advanced gaming Buttons + Embedded anti-friction rings for smooth thumb stick control
- Superior ergonomics for hours of comfortable gaming + classic intuitive Nintendo button layout
- Low battery warning LED indicator + Includes 10ft (3M) USB-C charge cable
- Officially Licensed for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite + two-year limited warranty - visit PowerA.Com/support
Last weekend, we also found out PowerA would be releasing a Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time wired controller.

PowerA, when will it be enough?
(It does look cool though.)
Are these controllers actually any good though? I'm gonna assume they're not really a substitute to the official Pro controllers.
It looks great... but, no rumble, no Amiibo, no deal.
@Yosher
I have two PowerA controllers and they are excellent. The only thing that they lack is a rumble feature. According to the above poster they also don't read amiibo. Good for a second controller anyways. Sometimes they also go on sale for $35. A very good deal. I highly recommend them.
@Yosher They are comfortable and have great battery life and a better d-pad than the official Pro Controller, but they don’t have any kind of rumble and are not compatible with amiibo.
Power A controllers are pretty meh if you ask me. The d pad is a bit rough on the thumb due to what I feel are some kinda sharp edges and they feel pretty light and cheap in a sense. Otherwise the basic functionality is there from a traditional controller stand point but all the other bells and whistles of the pro controller and joycons is missing.
The biggest appeal they have is a swath of designs they offer, but almost all their wireless controllers run on AA's so you're paying more in the long run unless you use rechargables.
@Yosher My gf bought one for herself but neither of us use it (unless we have to) because it just isn't the same / doesn't feel good to use.
@Yosher I have quite a few of these and find them quite good. I still use joy cons or the first-party Pro controller for some games, but these are suitable for just about any game.
I have two or three of the Animal Crossing ones, but this one doesn't grab me. As @Just_2_milky said, enough with the Animal Crossing theme.
@Burning_Spear @everynowandben @JoakimZ @Professorgenius Thanks for the replies! I guess it depends on the person who uses it. I may grab one when one is up for sale sometime and judge for myself, although I'll most likely end up sticking with the Pro controller still because I've grown accustomed to rumble.
@ParasolStars Have you tried this second generation with the built in battery? I had the same issue with the dpad in the older model that requires AAs. I play Street Fighter a lot and the old model was ripping up my thumb. But the new model uses a softer plastic on the dpad and it has more rounded on the edges.
Hmm for controller you can never go wrong with official Switch Pro Controller.. never touch my Joycon anymore except for Let's Go
I bought the black triforce powerA and was devastated. It should say no rumble on the box. I used it for about and hour then when right back to the joy-cons in that holder. I bought an official pro controller and my joy-cons haven’t been off my switch since.
It looks gross to me and it gives me hospital vibes for some reason lol
Niiice...! 😀
I want that White Green Pro controller.
I like it! Classy design...
I like the design but yea the 1st gen power A’s were no good so can’t shake that I’m gonna feel the same about this one. I also prefer joy con for most games as I like to have my hands separated, better for wrists and posture!
Despite all of these cool designs from PowerA, I'm probably never going to get any of these controllers. I already have a Switch Pro Controller, 1st-party, and I would rather have more functionality than better aesthetics.
Will stick to my offical Splatoon 2 pro controller. The lack of Amiibo support doesnt bother me but rumble defenately does.
I have a feeling that spearmint gum would fall out of this if I cracked it open.
I think I am going to just buy another 8bitdo Pro Plus or the Pro 2 when that comes out as my next controller considering my original Pro Plus is still going strong!
