You might have forgotten it even existed by now, but Contra: Rogue Corps has just been updated with new content.
Access to Hardcore Missions – super-tough stages intended for skilled players – is now available, and Konami has also thrown in a pair of new Carnage League stages, as well as other content.
However, the most exciting element of this new update for fans of the series is a recreation of the first Contra game.
History repeats itself. Now it’s Rogue Corps’ turn to blast its way across the battlefield where Bill, Lance, and other members of the first Contra engaged in a deadly struggle against the alien scourge. Take the ultimate equipment and weaponry in hand, and become a legend!
Also of note is that Konami has made the weapon cool-down period much shorter in this new update. You can watch a comparison video below to check out the difference.
Will this update convince you to purchase the game, or boot it up again if you already own it? Or maybe our rather scathing Contra: Rogue Corps review put you off for good? Let us know with a comment.

Who's gonna buy this?
This is a good update for sure, but not enough for me to buy it or even really consider buying it.
Needs to get a 20 dollar price reduction, then I'll consider it
Blazing Chrome and the Contra Anniversary Collection are on Switch. Not sure why I'd ever buy this for anything above bargain bin prices.
Can you still never Game Over though? Because being super-forgiving isn't really what a Contra game has been...ever...
Might pick it up on a seriously cheap sale price in a few years, but only if I'm drunk.
Bought it for $20 over BF weekend to give it a chance as I sure as hell wasn't gonna pay full price let alone money for the season pass. This just made it a bit nicer to make that money spent worth it a bit more.
@ParasolStars
Think you would have been better off with Contra Anniversary.
@EmmatheBest I mean, at the risk of sounding like I'm defending an apparently bad game (that I've little knowledge on), Contra is one of THE games the Konami code was most abused in, resulting in basically not seeing the Game Over screen.
I've always seen these types of games to be a "how few lives can I beat it with" rather than "how many can I have/can I do it in the limit?". In that regard, not having game overs serves the same purpose as the ever popular cheat, just letting you see and practice those levels without having to continuously restart, play half the game again and make about 3 inches of progress.
I think it seems more worth it, now at a sale price. Really funny seeing people telling them they were wrong for buying the game...
Is it playable yet?
Or will it just be forever snark bait?
I almost bought this yesterday for $20 on Amazon. Should have now its up to $25.
The screaming rock music doesn't help sell me any
Wait... dis they remake the whole first game?
I'll buy it if I could find the game cheap.
Weapon cool down time in a Contra game?
Swear word!
A little to late for me anyways. Still no interest in this one.
Who in the world could forget this game existed? It reviewed so badly that it's infamous now.
The demos were sluggish and barely playable on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One (I never played the PC version) and the Xbox One version of the full game (which I played with GamePass) is no different. New content and a reduction of a feature that shouldn't have been there in the first place aren't going to change my mind about the game. If they get rid of the cool-down completely and at least drastically reduce the input lag, maybe I'll consider giving the game another chance.
Still not gonna buy it.
Most of the hate for this game came from the gaming press, and let's face it, they've got too much love for Kojima to ever give Konami a pass again. It's not terrible. In fact, I've had a lot of fun playing through it a few times now. Was it worth $40? Nope. At $20 it's a good game though.
@MagnaRoader I think it’s on sale for $19.99, and even if it was another $20 off, I don’t think I’d bite.
I picked up the game on a Black Friday sale. While it's not Contra as most of us know (in the classic sense) it's still mindless fun. If this dlc was free it would be one thing however.
@Donutman nah bro it's on sale for 29.99. Which is 20 bucks more than it's worth
because the game has been a massive failure
@Jayofmaya why can't bad games stay bad lol sucks to riff on something for a limited time.
Now, I am interested.
Update: Just bought the digital copy together with the DLC.
@Jayofmaya
Yeah but the sale price wont last.
And if you buy the Contra Anniversary collection you get almost the entire series and the japanese versions for the same money, as this game on sale.
@MagnaRoader It has in Europe, you can buy it for 17.99 and i did.
@KitsuneNight I already downloaded that day one when it came out months ago as well as Blazing Chrome. I know the game isn't great, but $20 isn't astronomical and retail copies on certain games aren't gonna float around forever, especially those that don't sell particularly well.
