During Nintendo's Direct Presentation yesterday, it was announced that the acclaimed PC management sim Factorio will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch on October 28th, 2023.
Originally launched in 2020, Factorio tasks players with building and managing a factory-style system, utilising resource gathering and automated construction to construct the most efficient factory possible. All the while, you'll need yo defend your creation's against the planet's indigenous fauna, which become more hostile as a result or your factory's polltant emissions, meaning you'll need to find a delicate balance between expansion and defensive capabilities.

Details of the Switch port have been detailed in a dev blog post, confirming that the game will run between 30-60fps both in TV and handheld mode. In discussing the move to conventional controls over mouse and keyboard, the blog post states the following:
"Factorio was developed for 10 years with only keyboard and mouse in mind, so making sure the game is fully playable with controllers was no easy task. Playing with a controller is slightly slower, and will take some getting used to (just as it does when playing with keyboard and mouse for the first time). After becoming familiar with it, I find it very comfortable. I recommend everyone to play through the first levels of our tutorial campaign, as it's a great way to get acquainted with playing Factorio with a controller."

Looks really neat. Will try if price is right.
that's awesome news one of my favorite games. Now bring Opus Magnum next please!
This looked like one of the more interesting games from the direct, rather than the 40 or so farming JRPGs.
@braincandy101 I thought the same!! I had never heard of this game, but it caught my eye. If the reviews are good, I'll be picking it up.
@TMNHertl Why is it so good? Would you compare it to anything else? It looks great!!
I saw this and thought "ah great a game where you steal the natural resources, destroy the local wildlife and pollute the planet, such a nice game"
@MarioBrickLayer There aren't direct comparables imo. Maybe OpenTTD or for a Switch comparable maybe Astroneer? But I never liked Astroneer.
I like it because you are solving open-ended problems so there are multiple ways to get there (kind of like Opus Magnum) and the difficulty is steep but very manageable. Once you get the gameplay down it is very, very addictive.
@Bunkerneath Except this is a game hence fantasy and a very, very well made game.
I fancied this one but will wait for price and more information before I buy.
@Bunkerneath Beats doing it in real life, only bedwetters will be upset by doing it in a game (as with GTA)
Looks so up my street. Is it going to suck my life away though??
@TMNHertl
Infinifactory is probably the closest thing out there.
I don't often see games rated 10/10 on Steam.
Hmm, might have to give this game a try.
Played a little on steam and really enjoyed, but looking forward to the switch version as it feels like it will fit the handheld better than sitting for hours at a desk.
I have hundreds of hours in the PC version.
It's a FANTASTIC game!
Aside from the controls, I'm worried about the performance. There are some busy moments with a lot of enemies.
My PC struggles to run smoothly when I throw too many bombs on them on that situations
Looks like a great environment sim game, kinda odd that we still hadn't gotten any SimCity game on modern consoles not even on Switch or NSO.
Very much looking forward to this release. From what the Dev blog says the performance should be decent in both handheld and docked. Larger bases may dip in both FPS and UPS.
This looks really cool. I'm interested.
I've had this on my Steam wishlist for years, but never quite wanted to pay full price for it, and it never goes on sale. On the Switch, though, I'll be happy to drop full price.
This was the highlight of the direct for me. I've been eyeing this game for a couple years, but investing the time and energy to learn it will be much easier on Switch.
Really hope it has (optional) Touch screen support so you can use a combination of both touch and classic controls at the same time if you’d like.
When playing portable, I find that’s what works best in most cases for this kind of games.
Knowing what Factorio is, this was one of the shockers of the show to me. I never would have expected it to come to consoles. I can imagine touch controls being pretty good for this, if implemented in handheld. Every time I watch someone play it on YouTube though, I just don't know if its for me. I really enjoy watching others play it, but I think the swarms of baddies would just give me hives. I do think its a great addition to the Switch library though!
Its interesting reading the dev blog about the Switch release too. I would have expected this to try for Xbox/PS5 first, so its a pleasant surprise to see that Factorio is, currently, only coming to Switch as a console release. I think that's quite a great get for Switch owners!
@Bunkerneath
I'm with you - I think I'd let the fauna win!
Hopefully there are some giant Arrakis sandworms to wreak holy Shai Hulud vengeance on the invader's death factory (or at least give the player a real challenge).
28th October 2023 is very soon ?!!!
Please, don’t sleep on this one! It’s absolutely incredible on PC, it’ll be awesome on Switch I’m sure!
This is by far my most played game on Steam (over 1000 hours) so I’m obviously a bit biased but this game is great. I doubt I’ll pick it up again as I’m currently playing a modded run on the steam deck and I very much doubt that mods will be making their way over (most mods tend to ramp up the complexity for doing even basic things)
There’s loads of replay ability designing your factory in different ways, maybe go all in on a conveyor bus system, or build a factory running exclusively through a train network, or go the easy route and get logistics robots moving everything for you.
So many evenings have turned into early morning moments of “what the hell, how am I still playing this game?”
The factory must grow...
Factorio will launch on Switch in 2022, not 2023!
Why hasn't anyone noticed this?
