Back in July, it was confirmed that, following some uncertain years, E3 2023 would definitely be happening, and now we know the exact dates of the show: Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th June 2023.
The once-annual event is now being run by ReedPop, which is behind other popular events such as PAX East and West, New York Comic Con, and Star Wars Celebration. ReedPop previously promised that the next show will be a "return to form". The 2023 show is returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center, and fans and industry members will have a little more space to breathe as the event will be split into separate 'Business' and 'Gamer' days.
Full disclosure: Nintendo Life and its Hookshot Media sister sites are partnered with ReedPop.
E3 Business Days will take place from 13th-15th June, while Gamer Days are on the 15th and 16th June — so there's one day of overlap where gamers and industry/media people will mingle. There will also be, of course, "Partnered Showcases" in the days before the expo, which start on Sunday 11th June.
On Thursday and Friday, fans will be able to go hands-on with upcoming games, meet developers, content creators, and members of the industry and media side, and there will also be a dedicated theatre giving consumers a detailed look at the biggest, most-anticipated titles!
ReedPop's VP of Gaming Kyle Marsden-Kish wants E3 under the ReedPop umbrella to "reunite the industry" and bring back the magic of past years:
“E3 is one of the global gaming industry’s few opportunities to come together, unite as one loud voice, and show the world what it is creating. Our vision is to reunite the industry by re-establishing the traditional E3 week, bring back that spark, and restore E3's role as a truly magical global showcase event for game creators and consumers.
You can find out even more about next year's E3 — yes, that does feel weird to write out — from Gameindustry.biz. In the meantime, we'll hear more about presentations, media booths, attendees, and more (fingers crossed for Nintendo!) over the course of the next few months.
Are you excited to hear more about E3 2023? Will you be attending? Let us know!

Would be a good year to announce the Switch 2 by then. I had a feeling Nintendo is saving this announcement just for that purpose.
I probably might start arguing to the death why E3 is here to stay...
It'll be E3 time next year! Still the best game expo, we'll see how different the new organizers can make it.
Well, the only thing I always wait from game events just only the kids games.
I don't wait for AAA games, zelda, metroid, xenoblade, splatoon, FIFA, fortnite, etc.
No, I don't.
I'm waiting the unpopular new games that only I have interest about.
Announce the games like Kao the Kangaroo, cartoonish games by OG Games / Microids, cute farm sim games, etc and I will be happy.
@Serpenterror I think they would prefer to have all eyes on them when they reveal their next hardware like they did with the Switch in 2016. I don’t think E3 is as important to them now as it once was especially considering how effective Directs and out of the blue reveals have been for them in recent years
Wow, I cannot wait for E3 to be cancelled again!
Is a „re-uniting“ what „the industry“ really needs? Is there a split at all? I doubt it, and I doubt the sense of this event.
I cannot wait for the event to be ridiculously underwhelming throughout, and then for Nintendo to absolutely save it at the end like they always have.
@larryisaman They could still tease us with it at E3.
Anyone remember that movie Weekend at Bernie's? Definitely getting those vibes here.
Hopefully it does end up happening, E3 is better than Summer (Space) Game Fest.
E3 is brilliant! Its like Gamer christmas and Microsoft and Nintendo have done a sterling job propping up at least the calendar slot for the last few years.
What Reedpop need to do is turn it into a gamer 'comic-con'. Get some industry panels going. Invite and pay for some of the bigger twitch/youtube streamers to attend and livestream as much as they can from the show floor. Get Epic to bring back the Fortnite Pro Am. Host a Smash tournament.
Pile in as many exhibitors as possible but make sure you've got it in writing that at the very least Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony will all have a Direct/State of Play during the event.
I hope Nintendo decide to join this, I missed the summer showcase this year. I doubt there'll be any sort of switch 2 announcement though, I think that'll be on their own terms.
because its not the ESA running E3 2023 I'm slightly optimistic for the event next year
@larryisaman That last direct was effective alright but not in the way Ninty was hoping probably.
@Serpenterror Don't hold your breath.
I dunno if they can unring the bell that has been sounding for the last 2 years. "OK. You guys have been doing a great job of promoting your upcoming contact through direct streams, but- hear me out here- what if you spent an extra 2 million dollars to do the same thing, but with a live audience!?"
Would love for this to go back to the old format with Nintendo, Sony and ms etc in attendance with cringy stage presentations!
Hope they can make it happen!
I would love for it to come back big, but I'm not entirely sure it will. I guess we'll have to see.
E3 always comes up around my birthday so it's like an extra birthday present!
Well, good!
This year showed us why the industry needs an "E3". The announcements were diluted and had less impact.
Personally even in the worst years. I still love E3
It's about time... the format from the 90's was not working anymore.
I'm sure everyone will hold hands and sing kumbaya.
I don't think E3 is going anywhere anytime soon. These conversations will age poorly in a similar vein to "Nintendoomed." E3 plays an incredibly important role in the industry. Companies could still drop film/television trailers and announcements outside of Comic-Con, so should we do away with that venue as well? These events generate a ton of buzz. Nintendo had their own Direct presentations separate from E3 this year, but without the pressure to bring their A-game, it was lacking. E3 is the connective tissue between the major gaming competitors that ensures companies are firing on all cylinders to deliver the most hype-inducing experiences as they attempt to outshine one-another. That spirit of competition is incredibly important in encouraging developers to take new risks and ultimately push the industry forward by continually going above and beyond our expectations. The gaming community is a much more shallow space without E3.
E3 seems to be about the only thing that can guarantee us a full-fledged Direct, and the other press conferences are handy for keeping up to date on the industry outside the Nintendo-sphere, so I hope it manages to come back strong and reassert itself as the biggest gaming event of the year.
@RadioHedgeFund Gotta love a Christmas where you get teased with future toys you won’t be able to purchase until years later!
On the one hand, I don't care about E3. On the other, I like how the first part of it is focused on the industry and its business. I legit miss the days of keynotes and press conferences.
Yikes.
I remember when E3 used to be the best time of year for games. But they legit squandered it with all the celebrities, cars and whatever else. Just make it about the games again -and ONLY the games- and the rest will fall into place.
Sounds really fun, I’m in!
NINJA APPROVED
@Max_the_German Probably referencing the divide between devs who want to unionize and those that don’t. Or the inevitable fanboy/console wars.
@ThatNyteDaez Makes you wonder what the second “E” in E3 stands for...
As long as they dont put out 3 hour long boring pc centric presentations with commercials like geoff keighely, i'll be watching.
E3 reuniting by separating "industry days" from "gamer days" sounds like a plan implimented in the spirit of the country and state planning to host the event.
Great news! I hope it will be successful.
I'll believe it when I see it; but I miss the giant media events.
