Re: River City Girls 2 Confirmed For Switch, Along With 'River City Girls Zero'

@Moroboshi876

Yeah they obviously slapped the River City Girls name on it to cash in on the hype the game generated even though the girls really aren't the focal point. In fact, without spoiling anything, they're not even playable for the whole game. Still, RC Girls references the Super Famicom game a lot, including remixing the music from the game, so it still kinda makes sense, I guess. There's also the fact that gameplay-wise the game has very little in common with RC Girls or RCR in general. It has no RPG elements, it's a straight-up brawler. It makes me a little worried that people will buy this game with expectations that won't be met and write it off.

Still happy to see it coming though and I'll be getting it as well. It's good to see that the RC Girls game generated fresh interest in the series. I hope this leads to more of the Kunio-kun games being translated.

Part of me is annoyed that the Super Famicom game is now being labeled as a River City Girls game (it's not, it's a Kunio game and I feel like calling it RC Girls Zero is going to give the false impression that the girls are the main characters), while another part of me is extremely happy to see this underrated brawler coming out in English. Either way, I'm always happy to see more Japanese titles getting western localizations.

@Citel

I didn't remember this until you mentioned it, but I did the curving ball trick on the NES version all the time. I played Baseball Simulator 1000 a lot as a kid. I had no idea the SNES version fixed things like that, I just always felt like it was a bit... off. I attributed it to the fact I was so accustomed to the 8bit version. I've never really played the SNES version for more than a few minutes. I guess it never clicked with me the way the NES version did.

It's nice to see the Metal Max series making a return, but we did have a game called Metal Saga here in the US so I don't think this is necessarily the first Metal Saga game. Prior to this we had Metal Saga: Sajin no Kusari and it's the only Metal Max besides Xeno we got in the west.

Re: Does Your Copy Of Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Still Work?

Onion

This is why I keep telling people that "physical is forever" is complete bullcrap. I say this as a collector myself who has seen numerous physical copies simply cease to work for no given reason. In my case it was Sonic Rush and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. This is to say nothing of disc based media and the consoles themselves dying at a frightening rate. Whether you buy physical or digital, nothing lasts forever. This is one reason why I'm terrified to dig up my Gamecube games and check them. Part of me considers simply selling a good chunk of my collection off before things like this happen and ruin the value, but I don't really need the money.

With that being said, I recently played my copy of Omega Ruby and it worked fine. I transferred my mons from it to the Pokemon Home thing. My copy is NA though. Curious to see this is happening to EU/PAl copies only. I'm wondering if it's at all possible that the copies that are dying are somehow bootlegged? I remember hearing at one point there was a huge issue with bootlegged copies of HGSS. Could be just a batch of defects too.

Curious case all around though. While games do randomly die, it's rare for it to be big number all dying within a few years of each other.

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying

My Switch blew out one of its speakers (I suspect Freedom Planet was the culprit) and my Pro Controller left analog stick has a tendency to drift down somewhat but it's rarely noticeable. My Switch screen has seen better days too but all things considered my Switch is doing pretty well. There's life in the old dog yet!

A Switch Pro would be nice though.

I feel like the only person who doesn't hate the online thing. It was inevitable they would eventually start charging and it costs very little, especially compared to other platforms. If you can afford a Switch you can probably afford the online service which costs what, 20 dollars a year?. Otherwise, don't pay for it. I don't know why anyone ever had an expectation for N64 games either.

But what do I know, I'm just an onion.
