Re: Fortnite's Marvel-Themed Chapter Update 'Absolute Doom' Is Now Live

Octane_st1m

@MH4 Got back into Fortnite last season since I kinda grew tired of same ol' Apex Legends. Really like the fact that they're not afraid to shake up the meta. Last season it was Nitro Fists all the way, with vehicles being extremely overpowered too. Took a few games to get used to the new gimmicks for this season but it started to click and I seem to be enjoying it. There's more variety in terms of playstyles and speedbuilding in tight end rings is relevant again.

Re: Feature: 20 Great Gaming Accounts You Should Follow On Bluesky

Octane_st1m

Probably the stupidest update that ruined twitter or x for me was when they restricted browser accessibility when not logged into the platform. Obviously these tech giants want you to stay logged in every time and with all permissions from your phone apps enabled. I miss those days when you can freely browse twitter or reddit without using an account.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Doubles The Length Of The Original

Octane_st1m

@Poco_Lypso @Sculptor On the same boat here. I kinda stopped buying games with the exception of splurging on the occasional sale since I can't find the time to finish them. Binged a lot during covid times though but the last long game I was able to finish was Xenoblade 3. Really want to get this definitive SMTV but its likely gonna get buried in my backlog anyway.

Re: Play No Man's Sky For Free This Weekend As New 'Omega' Update Launches

Octane_st1m

@burninmylight I'm not sure how they'll implement the limited time trial but I got this on a sale from a while back. Spent a total of maybe about 10 hours or so already but I feel like I'm so far away from experiencing all the cool updates and content from the expansions. It makes me lazy to get back into it as a result so this Omega content I highly doubt that a new player will get access to it in a span of a few days.

Re: Pokémon's Former Chief Legal Officer "Surprised" Palworld Got This Far

Octane_st1m

I'm gonna buy it and give it a go this weekend. I have a feeling I'll have a better time with this than Pokemon Violet, about 70% cheaper too. By the way, popular Poketubers that my daughter follow have covered this in the past and I assumed it was a game for kicks. Despite some of the creature designs looking like ripoffs, I think this has a place and provides a healthy alternative and competiton.

Re: Soapbox: If Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Isn’t Switch’s Swan Song, It Really Should Be

Octane_st1m

Still playing my Switch and Lite daily just to tackle backlog but for me I'm good with 1st party games after getting Splatoon 3 back in December except for maybe the XC3 DLC. Definitely my fave console of all time but I really think its time for a successor. I've been less excited every year and I think I already have all the games I want on this system (Persona ports were icing on the cake). Even though I still lurk and buy on the occasional eshop sale, I also find myself booting up my PS4 more often as of late to play games like Yakuza, Destiny and Cyberpunk 2077.

Re: Splatoon 3 Version 3.1.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Octane_st1m

@Nintendo4Sonic Haven't played since last month due to taking a break from paying NSO sub but I feel that the difficulty of online matches especially during Splatfests has increased significantly since 2. I wanted to introduce my wife to the game but there's just too many sweats in lobbies for a beginner player. There should be SBMM in my opinion to calibrate skill level more optimally thus making matches more enjoyable. A big reason I'm losing interest is that matches are too sweaty that trying different weapons, abilities and playstyles become too discouraging. I can only find success in maybe 2 types of loadouts and it gets boring not being able to mix it up.

Re: Free-To-Play Shooter 'Rogue Company' Ends Service On Switch In June

Octane_st1m

This is one of the better f2p shooters out there but sadly it didn't become as popular as other offerings from bigger AAA studios. I have a lot of memories playing this game during the pandemic and even met people online that led to gaming sessions on other games as well. Sad to see it leave the Switch but totally understandable as the playerbase continues to dwindle by the minute. Good thing I have cross save on my Steam and PS4 accounts so I get to keep the Rogues and skins I've earned.

Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection Launches On Switch Spring 2023

Octane_st1m

It's quite expensive just to get the standard physical ed. but when I looked at Steam and Google Play, it seems that the price is more or less the same when you buy them all individually. I'm only interested in getting FFVI so I will wait for it to go on a reasonably priced sale as there are loads of other stuff to play anyway. P3P and P4G coming on January as well and it's pretty cheap compared to this.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Bayonetta 3

Octane_st1m

@kalosn for some reason FFXII and Halo 4 comes to mind as these games came late into the PS2 and XBOX360 lifecycle. They were ambitious and pushed the respective consoles to the limit. I enjoyed them a lot and I think this is how games turn out when there is a certain level of mastery when developers get used to a certain piece of hardware/platform. Good games with enjoyable gameplay but has potential to be better on a device with improved specs. Same could probably be said about Xenoblade for the Wii tho I never experienced that myself.

Re: Random: Tired Of Waiting, One Fan Got Genshin Impact On Switch Via An Android Emulator

Octane_st1m

@Snatcher @WallyWest I have it on my PS4 but been playing on mobile about 90% of the time. I would say its beautiful and smooth (maybe a few dips here and there) in Playstation but the load times are horrible. I probably do some difficult boss fights there for more precision but the daily grind and RPG stuff in general I prefer to do it handheld. Love this game btw and co-op with my 10yo daughter whose in PC for at least an hour every day. A Switch port would be most welcome but not really necessary for me. It would be great for more people to experience the game though.

Re: Review: Overwatch 2 - Solid F2P Shooting That Doesn't Yet Justify The '2'

Octane_st1m

Without reading the numbers specifically, it seems that this Switch version runs better than the OW1. Haven't played it since late last year I think but seems like I was able to link a battle.net account back then. Sad to say none of my progression/skins etc. has carried over yet. I am hoping this will be resolved since they said OW1 players would be able to keep some stuff at least. What I like about them applying the F2P model is that getting into matches is sooo much easier this time around.

Re: You Can Now Download A Harvestella Demo From The Switch eShop

Octane_st1m

Really liking the demo so far. Too many games I want to buy though with Persona (which could probably wait since I have it on PS4), Splatoon 3, No Mans Sky, Nier, Sonic Frontiers and now this. Like many others I found the protagonist choices weird at first but then playing a lot of Genshin recently actually made me think they are just poorly done versions of Aether and Lumine. I don't care about it since I found the gameplay, art style and music clicking with me so far. I think it has that older gen Final Fantasy charm but its farming first and rpg second. Ain't complaining about graphics as well and I think the quality is just a couple notches below DQXIS. What bothers me is the lack of voice acting though.

Re: The New Fire Emblem Hero Was Created By A VTuber Designer

Octane_st1m

Never played any Fire Emblem games and I'm not familiar with much of its history, but when I saw the trailer I thought it was a spinoff game, not mainline. It got me a little interested though as the new motif suits my taste better. I would get why longtime fans would be upset though. Still interested in playing Three Houses sometime in the future as I've heard nothing but great things bout it!

Re: Poll: Splatoon 3 Is Now Available For Nintendo Switch, Are You Getting It?

Octane_st1m

@thehoppypoppy on the same boat as you. Not a lot of income to spare as of late so I'll probably be getting this later this year if not the next. I have XC3 and lots of games on my backlog which I hoarded from steep eshop discounts to keep me busy. I would've gotten this at launch though if I had the money since I played Splatoon 2 for close to 200 hrs and it was one of my fave games. No point in waiting for a discount though cause it almost never happens on 1st party stuff!

Re: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Is Apparently Much More Than A Remaster, But Not A "Complete Remake"

Octane_st1m

I would say its a remake the same way the new RE2 and RE3 were remakes.

I dunno much about the FF7 remakes cause I only played it for an hour when I subbed to a 1 month trial of PS Plus. However, based on the comments here and feedback in general, there were so much changes from the original FF7 that it's difficult to consider it a remake since its almost entirely different. The short time I played I don't even know what it was since it reminded me very little of the original FF7. I'd say it's more of an Advent Children prequel perhaps?

Re: Japanese Charts: Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Digimon Survive Take Top Two Spots

Octane_st1m

I hope XC3 keeps the momentum and exceeds company expectations. A masterpiece of a game which I think is the culmination of all things that makes this series so good. With the 15 hours I've spent so far, I think that this will go down as the best game on the Switch system for me. It also addresses my main complaint about its predecessors which is the plot, characters and worldbuilding. This game is Persona 5 and Final Fantasy X levels when it comes to that regard. Also the freedom in combat/builds, as well as a much improved and coherent battle system puts the icing on the cake.

Re: Video: What Was Your First Video Game Ever?

Octane_st1m

@calbeau nice meeting a fellow countryman here! For some reason Nintendo home console presence here was kinda weak IMO after the SNES. The Switch is my first Nintendo home console after the SNES since Playstation basically took over with the PS1 era onwards. Really glad to see Nintendo making a comeback here and in this gen I just realized how much I missed their first party games.
