Re: Soapbox: The Switch Online Expansion Pack Is Great Value – If You Love Animal Crossing

Octane_st1m

Im gonna go a little off the main topic but since many have been mentioning the family plan, just wanna share how I use it to save on game purchases. In some instances I only need to buy a game once if I want to play multiplayer for 2 switches simoultaneously with a single digital game license. This is only possible with NSO because you cannot play the same game copy simoultaneously in local multiplayer. Online will bypass this restriction and to me I get my money's worth in the family sub by not having to buy the same game twice.

Re: Open-World RPG 'Honor Of Kings: World' Looks To Fuse 'Monster Hunter' With 'Zelda: Breath Of The Wild'

Octane_st1m

@Floki I think my point was a little misunderstood. It was based from an earlier comment regarding a cloud version of the game. Cause if it is indeed in the cloud it can never be a definitive handheld version as you say. The general verdict regarding cloud gaming on the Switch is mostly negative and I suspect that very little of those 90 million users are interested to spend money on this. Also, current players invested in the game have very little incentive to play it on the cloud on a portable platform when they can just grind on their phones natively while they are away from their home consoles/PC. Now a native port is a different story of course. As an example, Apex Legends took the porting route and are now reaping the benefits of it.

Re: Open-World RPG 'Honor Of Kings: World' Looks To Fuse 'Monster Hunter' With 'Zelda: Breath Of The Wild'

Octane_st1m

@anoyonmus Oh alright, didn't see any info yet regarding that one. Doesn't really make sense to have it on the cloud since its on mobile anyway. Business-wise it would be better to just shelve it for Switch. Servers cost money and the game is f2p. The market share on the Switch will be extremely low as a lot of other players are already invested in other platforms.

EDIT: If you meant the new game then it would make sense, I was referring to Genshin on my comment above btw.

Re: Persona And Shin Megami Tensei Composer Has Left Atlus To Develop Indie Games

Octane_st1m

From what I understand, Meguro-san will continue to work on Atlus games (likely on the upcoming Persona game and I think he is doing Re Fantasy as well). Hopefully this just means he won't be employed by the company directly and work as a project-based talent instead like Lyn and Lotus Juice. This might mean he won't be the lead composer in the upcoming games though but I think his contribution will still be substantial. He is the best composer in gaming today at least in my books. His sound is very distinct and catchy but can span different genres.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Need Some Work

Octane_st1m

I've dabbed on a little N64 emulation using Retropie on a RPi 3B and though its not really comparable to the Switch in specs, I remember reading somewhere that emulating the untouched ROMs would really present a challenge to modern day hardware specifically SoCs. I think it has something to do with the differences in terms of the devices design architecture.

Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer

Octane_st1m

Never been interested in the graphics master race and I usually pickup consoles when they're cheap later into their cycle. That said, I do think the Switch is doing alright and I can definitely do without a Pro version for the next 2-3 yrs. I do have a PS4 as well so I can get more demanding games there if I want to. Others who don't have a 2nd option would benefit from a Switch hardware upgrade so I understand that there is a demand for it.

Re: Japanese Charts: Metroid Dread Slips Down To Second, Switch OLED Leads Hardware Listings

Octane_st1m

@lovesushi English version I think comes Feb next year? I have tried the demo using a Japanese eShop account. Used GTranslate on my phone to get through some tutorials and basic battle systems. The game looks real promising with free movement turn based battles ala Mario Rabbids mixed with traditional JRPG. I believe its gonna have an English dub as well which means localization could take a bit more time to happen.

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

Octane_st1m

I would double dip and replay Persona 5 on the Switch. I don't mind getting the vanilla too if its easier to port that one. There isn't a game like Persona on the market and the pacing of the daily life sim would be so much better on handheld play. The execution, writing and story is so brilliant that I think it's set the bar so high for me that I find it hard to enjoy other games because of it. A Megaman Legends revival is also something I am very interested in.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

Octane_st1m

Hard pass for me. I don't play the NES/SNES bundled with the service. Just need the online function for non-f2p games. Had a feeling it would be overpriced but this is too much.

Never saw much value from PS Plus anyways as I'm usually not interested in their free games. Now the XB360 gold free games are a different story since they let u keep them even if you unsubscribe. They moved to the Sony model on the next gen unfortunately.

Re: Limited Run Reveals Its Physical Version Of Crysis 2 Remastered For Switch

Octane_st1m

@SSGodLink It runs and looks pretty well based on the DF videos. They said the final build will even be better since it was an older version they got to test early. Definitely getting this one since I haven't played any of it. This looks to satisfy my Halo craving in a portable setup. Don't care much about getting physical so I'll take the savings and get the digital package instead.

Re: Nintendo Says It's Continuously Working On Improving The Switch Joy-Con

Octane_st1m

If anyone is familiar with the GuliKit brand, they've released a set of Joycon analog replacements that claims to have reinforced components. I'm lucky to have not experienced drift yet on my V2 Joycons but that is probably due to using a Hori SPP when playing games that strain the analogs. I have not tried the GuliKit Elves product yet but I will give it a shot my Switch lite sticks eventually give out.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The "Cloud Versions" Of Kingdom Hearts On Switch?

Octane_st1m

@Wexter Yeah greatly exaggerating on FFXVI. I've lost interest in the new FF games for some reason with XII being the last game I actually played despite having XIII on Steam and playing the XV demo there. Also I admit that I'm slightly interested in the FFVI remaster but I will probably wait for some footage.

I don't even know why I'm commenting on this KH debacle as I'm not even that interested in the series. KH3 was one of the first games I bought on my brand new PS4 back then but only played the first couple levels with my kid before losing interest!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that SE, with so much money and resources, have been quite incompetent lately when compared to much smaller AAA game companies such as Koei Tecmo and NIS which in my opinion have actually been putting in the effort or at least trying their best to make good games and develop their properties.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The "Cloud Versions" Of Kingdom Hearts On Switch?

Octane_st1m

Square Enix games as of late:

  • Turns FF 16 into a Witcher/Skyrim ripoff
  • Butchers FFVII with a FFVII-CU treatment ala Marvel disguised as games
  • Chocobo racing and KH rhythm game on the Switch! Yay!
  • Mobile gatcha games based on FFVII
  • Lazy, overpriced PC ports of 8-16bit FF games
  • Butchers a potentially good 3D platformer in Balan Wonderworld
  • Revolutionary PS2 games on the cloud! Does it have ray tracing?

Sorry but I am staying away from their products until further notice!

Re: Metroid Dread's File Size Is Smaller Than First Thought

Octane_st1m

@sikthvash a big factor for me in getting games on the Switch aside from portability are the miniscule game file sizes. I don't like the fact that games with mediocre graphics and minimal content taking up 30-40gb of valuable storage space. I can barely get 10 games in my PS4 installed at a time on the internal drive. I've given up on games that take up more than 80gb of space. Imagine you need to delete almost all your games just to play COD Warzone on stock storage.

Re: Splatoon 2 Is Getting Another Game Update Next Week

Octane_st1m

@KiraMoonvalley There isn't any sbmm that I know of in Splatoon and I doubt the Nintendo service is capable of such algorithm. There are tryhards for sure especially here in the Asian region since it is very popular in Japan. I don't encounter any toxic players though and its not the kind of online game that is frustrating like CSGO/Overwatch. Hard to explain but it is a fun online shooter experience like no other. The only thing I don't like are the frequent disconnects which is due to the p2p nature of NSO.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Yesterday's Nintendo Direct?

Octane_st1m

Not a hack-and-slash guy but I am happy Bayonetta fans finally got the reveal they are waiting for. All directs this year have been good including this. I still have a lot of games to play/buy but now I will be adding Disco Elysium, Dying Light at Kirby 3D to that. I wish the time slot for Splatoon was shown more in actual 3PP gameplay but nothing to complain about. Oh and KOTR was also a welcome surprise. Gonna get to play it finally as I've been hesitant to get it on mobile hoping it will come to the Switch eventually.
