@Ryu_Niiyama As a PS4 owner I can relate. I stopped buying physical games there since it is copied on the hdd anyway plus u need to get like a 30-60gb patch for the complete experience which takes a whole day on crap internet. Can't imagine what its gonna be like for next gen games. Gotta take advantage of our new internet line before the typhoon season arrives here and wrecks it again lol
@Ryu_Niiyama Same for me. There are games I could have gotten in my ps4 instead but will never have much of a chance to play them. Outer worlds is a perfect example of that. I tried Control cloud a while back but was still on my old dsl line. Our ass telco provider upgraded our line to fiber recently and maybe I can get it to work this time round. Really interested in GOTG. Hope its the same as Control which you can test before buying.
Browsing the eshop sale earlier but will hold off buying for now until this mess is solved. The initial wireless pairing bug for select 3rd party controllers which was caused by one of the recent updates still not fixed by the way. Some users here were really pissed about that (including me) and this is an even bigger issue. I don't get why they rush in pushing these broken/untested updates.
@Kilamanjaro Exactly my thoughts. The whole time I thought it was DLC for Switch Mario Party. Only when I rewatched the trailer I realized it wasn't. Not to diss the old games and I am sure its good and all but if its full price for this remaster then it feels a bit steep. I already have the Switch game and its fun for my kid but its seldom played reserved for when we have visitors/playmates.
Based on the E3 segments I've seen so far, it is quite clear that the industry is moving towards next gen releases. Personally I am not into "realistic looking" games so much but I am part of that small minority. The past year we've seen devs push the Switch hardware to its limits with ports like Ori WotW, Outer Worlds, Apex Legends and Doom Eternal. We will likely see a few more but many the upcoming titles shown in E3 are too graphically demanding. I noticed a lot of them won't see PS4 and XBOne anyway so no use trying a Switch port and I doubt it will run on the rumored Switch Pro as well.
Hoping to see some good first party stuff from Nintendo and games made especially for the system such as MHR. I am still a happy owner but after seeing the Forza 5 demo I am tempted to get a Series S now.
Gonna continue Ori WotW this weekend and dive into a few Knockout City matches aside from Apex. Been playing Persona Q2 also as I don't want to finish Strikers yet. Hope to get some TV time for Royal as well. Btw am curious as to what game is on the cover photo of the article? Looks like a nice setting for a game!
@pepepopo oh man those early days when you had to look up crafting recipes in wiki. It's so much easier now, craftable items are categorized and there's a search function too. The newer features I know nothing about still. Been getting back into this game recently as my 9yo daughter got me hooked again.
Wow didn't expect this. I have not heard of this showcase before and there are some pretty interesting games here. Endling, Grow, Fire Tonight and Beasts of Marvilla are all in my watchlist now.
This is a nice topic/discussion. I answered both 3s but I can say that I do learn from mistakes quickly and make adjustments to my playstyle in order to "git gud". However I am also fine with losing and sucking as long as I'm having fun.
When it comes to comp shooters I reminisce competing in LAN tournaments in Counterstrike with my friends during my teen years in our community. I was not the best player on our team, didn't have the most kills or anything but loved the strategy and teamwork aspect. We did have some sucessful runs as far as I remember but very far from being pros or anything close.
Nowadays the dynamic is so much different as there are various ways one can find success in gaming (content creation, esports, livestreaming etc.) though I think the competition has gotten bigger as well so many players, even those with exceptional talent, are just on the average end of the spectrum.
@COVIDberry @dimi Been really curious about mainline SMT as I've been hooked into Persona lately after discovering P4G on Steam last year amidst the hype. Then I also got Royal and Strikers shortly after and even emulating P3P on my phone. I am aware of the differeces between the two and been real tempted to get Nocturne but kinda concerned that its not the experience I'm looking for. This one though seems like the best time to jump into the series. I hope we get to see some gameplay real soon!
Very subjective when it comes to games, in recent memory I've replayed RE: Revelations 2 on the Switch since I enjoyed it a lot on the Xbox 360 a few years back. Never got to finish that 2nd playthrough yet. On the 360 also replayed Halo 4 campaign to do co-op splitscreen with my wife (noticed I am in the minority who answered "I replay games so I can experience them again, but with someone else"). Played OG FFXII on the PS2 many years ago but never got to finish the latter part of the game it so I am replaying it on the Switch now (not sure if this counts?). So I think very rarely and I almost never get around NG+ since there are so many games in my backlog.
@OorWullie this somehow slipped under the radar. I didn't know about this until today. Played bomberman a lot on the snes but have not played any games in the series after that one. Gonna give it a go right now!
Sick of this news already so I hope they just announce it and then we can focus on software from hereon out. I am happy with my v2 and lite. Don't give a care about 4k gaming (I don't even have a monitor or tv for it) and if I did might as well get a decent pc build for that.
@MJF @unobvious Thanks! I will give it another go this weekend! I play mostly D.Va or Orisa as a tank or Baptiste on support. I can almost never get into any matches when choosing damage so I am not familiar with the dps kits which is maybe the reason why I struggle. My experience in OW like another person here said is either you dominate in a match or get dominated. Matches feel mostly one sided, I am not sure if it is because they have good dps players but I also notice teams with good support players have a lot of edge. I may have to read on the hero kits to understand it better so I can read situations as I am mostly clueless and playing with randoms.
I still have this game in my Switch library and I wanna get into it but I really have trouble understanding how to play it. I doubt that this change will have any impact in terms of being friendly to newcomers and casual players like me.
As someone whos poured in more than a thousand hours on this game since season 2, I would argue that the gameplay trailer is very much relevant that it introduces the new 3v3 game mode, new legends and weapons as well as other changes to the game. I don't think its meant to highlight switch performance and graphics at all or any console for that matter.
Still very happy that this is on the Switch. Not an impressive port but handheld + split pad pro is my fave way to play now. I admit going back to the ps4 slim from time to time feels like I am playing on a high end pc though
To me personally, a smartphone is for communication and not for gaming. Though I use a DS and PSP emulator for games I cannot on play on current platforms, I would still use a controller + bracket/stand. Spent some time on touchscreen gaming back in the ipod touch early generations and I have to say the quality of mobile games (save for graphics) nowadays aren't what it used to be. I guess its because everything adapted the freemium model for monetization whereas you had to purchase games before as you would normally do on a dedicated game console.
@Aerona KOTR would be awesome on the Switch. Almost bought it on the Steam sale earlier since I thought it was old enough to run on my potato laptop but apparently it has issues on Windows 10 according to the reviews.
Playing some Apex as usual before the current season ends. Also got No Straight Roads a couple weeks back during the indie sale and its a lot of fun! Getting back to playing Persona Royal too, its been a while since I've played on the TV.
Guess we'll have to rely on Mario and indies for 3D platformers now with Balan flopping as well. Really happy I got to jump back into the Crash franchise with the Switch. At least we got Crash 4 before this went down. One thing I don't understand though is why COD is still so popular nowadays when there are so much better options for shooter games. OG MW was really the only one I liked.
@Zanzox I also have a ps4 and I hate the firmware for a lot of reasons. Most annoying thing is update delivery. A 200mb patch takes 1 min to download and another hour to copy. It also handles external storage horribly as I've had to repair it every now and then. I am happy with the Switch firmware as it is very minimalist and gets the job done. But maybe I am old too
@LeonAlistair Yeah don't bother with this update. I tried wireless pairing, still doesn't work. Can't believe Nintendo messed up so badly on this. Wired initial pairing seems to be the only option now for some of my controllers (IINE and iPega). If you have a switch lite you can get one of those cheap dirt usb-a to c adapters for initial pairing just so you can use it still.
@LeonAlistair @Corleonis88 Exactly the same issue here. Discussed it on another thread here previously with another user. Any luck with the latest update?
@nikkrizalid looked up your controller model, might be a different case cause it should be detected as one side of the joycon per piece right? But maybe try this, 1st disconnect all controllers in settings, then connect the usb cable to only one piece first then see under change grip/order if you can assign it to player 1.
@Davzilla @Kiz3000 Oh man sorry I totally forgot! Pokemon is one of the few games that does not support cloud saves! I remember Splatoon does not too. Their reasoning is something about anti cheat or something.
@nikkrizalid that sucks man. As a temporary workaround, what I did was disconnect all controllers in the settings page, then did the initial pairing wired via the usb-c port of the switch or the tv dock. Once paired you can use it normally as the switch will remember the controller then. The only issue I came across with this method is that I cannot seem to pair multiple 3rd party controllers at once via the wired method. It only remembers one of them. Hope it works out for you!
@Davzilla And also from your example, you need to close the game on your docked console to trigger the save file upload. Then the lite would download the newer save data as long as it is connected to the internet and in sleep mode and vice versa.
@Davzilla It would work seamlessly as long as both units have internet access to upload and download the save file. You need it set it up once under the save data cloud settings and can enable it on particular games only. In case there is a save data conflict, there will be a warning sign next to the game icon on the save data cloud settings page. There you would need to choose either to overwrite the version in the cloud repo or download the save file there to your console to resolve the conflict.
I would gladly get another lite someday as I love my turquoise switch and bring it everywhere (my first switch btw) but I always dread the day that my sticks go bad/drift. Nowadays I play less intense games on my lite fearing that the sticks may go bad soon. The forward on the left stick has a very slight response issue (ex. my character walks instead of running sometimes). For games that put a lot of stress on the sticks, I use our V2 with the split pad pro for peace of mind.
@Davzilla It's a little better now actually. You can activate auto-upload/download but I prefer auto upload only as I am paranoid overwriting a more recent save on either my lite or v2. But it does not work as well as Steam sync I suppose.
@GrailUK I agree cause all I need is cloud saves and online play. Don't want to pay more just for 2freegames/month I will most likely not play. I thought Xbox gold was good for the 360 gen though cause you actually kept the free games even if you unsubscribe later on. This was how I built my 360 library back then and still have a lot of them installed to this day.
So disappointed on this update. Some of my 3rd party controllers suddenly have pairing issues. Maybe it has something to do with the rumored audio support modules they implemented in the code? Anybody else having issues on theirs?
Cozy Grove looks interesting. The wife wants it too so we will give it a go. Can't go anywhere because of lockdown again and this has nice camping vibes.
@UltimateOtaku91 @NinjaWaddleDee there's 5 main maps now and sometimes they add maps for specific LTMs which happen during weekends. Also they introduced new weapons and perks since. I would love to get into this one but sadly it's gonna have a hard time keeping the lobbies populated since its $20 not to mention the requirement of having a ps plus/nso/xbox gold. Even Rogue Company is having long queues from where I am and that is f2p.
Interested in Mario Golf, Pokemon Snap and maybe SMT/Miitopia remasters. I really really want the Apex controller too but I wish they did it a split pad pro version since I play handheld 90% of the time.
