Still waiting for Disney Afternoon collection on Nintendo Switch. Like the Cowabunga collection, Digital Eclipse also handled the compilation of the Disney NES games for PS4 and Xbox. It is silly how these games that originally came out on the original Nintendo system, isn’t available on Switch.
Great film overall. Loved all the characters and how they are portrayed in the film, including Princess Peach. The orchestra and retro style music goes very well with the movie. Do enjoy the little details and beautiful colors found throughout. Seeing Punch Out references is the one that stood out. Perhaps we might see “Little Mac” someday, as an ally to the Mario Bros. Certainly well done to the creative team for putting this together. Must have generated a lot of happy smiles to people’s faces. A very high energy film that can be enjoyed with the family, and for those who grew up with Mario.
It was a great film, and really loved it. Quality of the visuals were impressive. The production of the movie was really great, with good music. They certainly worked with what they have, to make it a successful fun and family film. As everyone waits for the movie sequel, perhaps Nintendo should finally take this moment to release Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Switch.
I really loved the Tetris film. Had a great retro feel and was impressed by the quality of the production. Superb movie soundtrack. It was creative and well made. Much better than I thought.
Remembered back in the early NES days, games were standard at $49.99 USD. But when Super Mario Bros. 3 came out and got released, it was priced at $59.99 in stores. Not surprised that Nintendo is doing this. Could be the size of the memory cart or storage reasons.
Still very surprised that Namco Bandai hasn’t released a Soul Calibur fighting game collection. Still remember using Link from Zelda as one of the characters from Soul Calibur 2. The music used in the series is still fantastic to this day.
Nintendo might be able to release the original Popeye Arcade game next year (maybe as a Hamster arcade archive), if assumptions are correct that the license will be public domain in 2024.
@E-Man Yes it was so much fun playing 4 players online with almost zero lag, when I tried one of my favorite turtle games. Played the arcade version of Turtles in Time and it was a wonderful experience. The one button special move is also an interesting feature.
Speaking of icons, would be nice if Wayforward can do the same for River City Girls 2. Their Switch icon is really boring. I was expecting to see RCG2 main characters on it, or more closer to the box art.
I got the double pack with Scarlet and Violet. Regardless of minor glitches, which can probably be solved with an update patch - the game is so far surprisingly more fun, than my initial experience with Sword and Shield. My score would be an 8 out of 10. It’s not perfect but very ambitious attempt to create the future template for the Pokémon games. I am really loving the seamless feel that is present when playing.
After playing this game, I still would love Nintendo to release the Wii version of Punch Out, and have it on my Switch. Another Punch Out sequel would be nice as well.
I was impressed with the beautiful presentation of Atari Anniversary Celebration, and decided to get it. Glad I waited since I was close to getting the Flashback collection instead. Mainly was interested in playing Crystal Castles Arcade and having it on my Nintendo Switch and really loving it.
Coming from both the traditional and Adventure games, I appreciate Sonic Team’s effort to figure out a solution, of providing a sense of freedom. Based on what I played so far, it is interesting how it transitions to battles seamlessly.
Even though I have a PS4 Pro, I prefer playing on handheld mode and decided to get the Nintendo Switch version. Plays and runs great on Switch which is impressive.
As someone who enjoys the Sonic series, I am loving the game. Takes getting used to, but I appreciate the team doing something different. I think Sega wanted to use this style or direction, as a way to bring in the people who watched the success of the films. As the game so far, seems to have good cinematic scenes and voice acting. But Sonic’s voice does sound kinda deep. Prefer the previous VA.
Wonder if Capcom can also throw in, a secret bonus game with MegaMan Network Transmission that was available on Nintendo GameCube. This would make the collection even more complete. Still remember the beautiful cel shaded visuals and great music. Which had a more 2D action feel.
Found the NES and game boy version, kinda confusing and challenging. It was Super Metroid that I found more playable. Curious if Nintendo can port Metroid Other M, as the direction seemed appealing. While Metroid Dread seemed it wanted to be more action oriented which was an interesting approach to the series.
@Serpenterror This could become good set of games for Capcom Fighting Collection 2, with majority focused on the Final Fight series. Throwing in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, (especially with Maki being a playable character in this version) would make this package very enticing.
As a fan of Donkey Kong, I would like to see more environments besides Jungles and Forest in a possible future game. A theme to explore more on, could be the pirate setting as seen in DKC2, which could look really beautiful on a modern system. Where it could be expanded into a unique story with DK (being the good hero) who gets involved with K. Rool’s latest plot with bananas & treasures, and maybe a time traveling element, to tie with different parts of history in the world. That would be epic. Can picture a possible return of Wrinkly Kong (or Granny Kong) as being a teacher or guide to provide hints along the way.
Another thing I would be curious to see if the original retro arcade stages could be translated into modern 3D. That would be very cool, maybe as a sub-world to go through during a level.
Would be great if Sega can port Sonic and the Seven Rings and Black Knight on Nintendo Switch. Personally did enjoy Sonic Forces, it was better than expected. I remembered going right in, without know too much about the game at the time. Probably because I am a fan of both Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (and Heroes). The 3D Sonics might not be perfect, but really love the music and cinematic feel in these.
Would be interesting if Konami releases Mystical Ninja, which was surprisingly a memorable SNES game with impressive stages, music and bosses. Speaking of Konami, they also did a Final Fight style game with Batman Returns for SNES as well. Would be cool if it’s possible to get the rights to rerelease, if they can get past licensing issues.
If there were a couple of choices, I would pick Rival Schools and Viewtiful Joe. Leaning more towards Viewtiful Joe because of its cel shaded graphics and unique Final Fight style gameplay. Speaking of FF, would certainly like Capcom to release a Final Fight collection (with 1, 2 and 3) on the Nintendo Switch.
I can see there was a lot of thought and care, as the film and movie’s cinematographer Larry Fong did an excellent job, in capturing the feel of what made Rescue Rangers so great. It exceeded my expectations as a Disney film.
Capcom should put out all their Final Fight games on Nintendo Switch Online to expand the SNES library. Very interested in playing Final Fight 2 and part 3 especially with the super moves.
Loved the Rescue Rangers film! It was surprisingly a very good comeback and felt very substantial. If you only seen the trailer, the movie itself was better than expected. It was quite solid and well made to please fans who grew up with this wonderful Disney Afternoon series and the Capcom games (which by the way does make an appearance), while at the same time to help introduce audiences who are new to Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. You definitely see the effort and hard work put into making it, similar to how they did with the Sonic live action films.
The effective way is just build on the Switch. Keep everything that’s great, and just expand on it. They can add and create as much new gaming experiences they want, as long as the Switch’s core features and library of games is maintained. The Switch has become the ultimate template for Nintendo, that must be kept standard for all future hardware going forward.
I have only played the first F-Zero game, around the period when Super Nintendo came out. Although I heard about other games in the series, it was the only real experience I had with the franchise. Based on this, perhaps to evolve a new F-Zero game on Switch, might be HD visuals with a futuristic Story Mode experience. Along with boss elements. In terms of gameplay maybe it can involve some ideas from Yoshi’s Safari, where racers would encounter giant robot mechas (what they used for the koopalings), and maybe some ideas from Sonic boss battles with Eggman, as the 3D Sonic games are kinda like racers in a way.
With the success of Sonic Movies 1 and 2, there is definitely high expectations for the Mario film. After watching Sonic in the big screen, just really wondering how Nintendo can approach and make it appealing enough for the Mario movie since it is CGI only, without the real world elements that is present in Sonic.
@SteamEngenius
Same here. But I had gerbils as pets. Generally mice and rats are cute and similar. I don’t get why people have a problem with these creatures. Check out where people have great respect for a rodent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwAdxyEuGho
I love the warmth and message of teamwork along with the importance of family togetherness. I can see there was effort to keep the people happy who are already familiar with the games, while making the movie accessible to new audiences. I like how Sonic blends and interacts with the human world. It actually works nicely and nothing new as the 3D Sonic games already contain people in it.
I skipped the previous Namco Museum archives on Switch, due to being 8-bit NES style games. This one looks interesting as it appears to have the arcade version of Pac-Land.
I like how they respected the use of classic 2d animation when it aired on Disney Afternoon as a series. Rather than doing the Smurfs 3D treatment. Going with the Roger Rabbit style approach is more interesting. As for the voices I’m not so sure. I can see they are taking the DuckTales 2017 route. It’s possible if this movie gets enough support, we might get a few modern seasons of TV episodes as a reboot on Disney Plus.
Also don’t understand why Capcom is being so hesitant to port the Disney Afternoon collection on Nintendo Switch. These are classic NES games that originated on a Nintendo system and deserves to be on it. The Aladdin and Jungle Book collection are okay. But Ducktales 1and 2, and both Rescue Rangers games are far better and my favorites. Darkwing Duck is also a high quality Disney classic game. If Capcom and Disney are listening put it on Nintendo Switch Online as standalone games if you have to. Work with the Big “N”, can be a win on both sides.
Would be interesting if Konami can release Mystical Ninja as part of the SNES library on Switch Online. Or release a collection of the series for eShop.
I would prefer that the next Street Fighter game use the cel shaded visual style, that Arc Systems uses in their fighting games. That would look really stunning. I remember how almost every SF sequel had a distinct graphical change. Personally find SF V’s graphics too similar to IV and just boring looking.
It appears they are trying to create that anime look, that is close as possible to the show. While using cel shaded visual style which is nice. You can almost see that Nintendo and Sega want to go into the world of movies and theatre in a big way, and bringing games and cinema together as the future. That is probably why they wanted yesterday’s Sonic Frontier reveal as a “visual trailer” so people can start getting that seamless feel, alongside with Sonic 2 movie trailer that was shown. Does make me wonder if developers figured out a new paradigm with enough gameplay to make this work.

Personally don’t mind the idea of starting fresh. To reflect on another person or team’s vision if there is another title in the series. I don’t know this feels like the Pokémon Sword and Shield issue of whether to keep and adding more Pokémon. The building on top with more layers mentality seems like an operating system update or software to treat each iteration like an upgrade, instead of something original to standout on its own. Not against bringing some familiar faces, but this could be opportunity to doing something unique for a true sequel. I like the idea of using a new visual art style, as they do with Zelda games.

Re: Introducing Sonic Frontiers, Arriving On Nintendo Switch Holiday 2022

Re: A New Smash Bros. Would Need A Smaller Roster, Admits Sakurai
Personally don’t mind the idea of starting fresh. To reflect on another person or team’s vision if there is another title in the series.
