So far, I am loving Pokémon brilliant diamond. Although was very skeptical about the “chibi look”, the quality and traditional feel is definitely still there, and it works beautifully while modernizing the Diamond and Pearl series. The music is great.
I was surprised by the incredible amount of quality and effort that was put into making Punch Out on the Wii. It certainly needs the opportunity to be released on Switch. Back then, I never got to play that much (probably too much time playing Street Fighter IV when it was released around the same period.) Punch Out on the Wii was definitely a nice arcade style title, that evolved nicely from the original game on NES and SNES while keeping the retro feeling. Just seems logical for Nintendo to put this out on switch, especially considering the game console cycle is expected to be longer than “normal”. It is definitely one of the most nostalgic series owned by Nintendo.
@Jokerwolf Yes things are certainly looking exciting and positive especially with Starlink and Spaceforce. Perhaps by then, it would be so appropriate to have releases of Pokémon “Gold & Silver” on Switch. The remakes of diamond and pearl appear to indicate the path of “brilliant and shining” light ahead.
Personally I won’t mind if Apple iOS games can be playable on Switch. In addition with possible speculation of Xbox and Nintendo, would be interesting if games can run natively on the Switch also.
It will probably be a name, that would be simple and easy to remember. With fewer syllables, as “Super Nintendo Switch” is more of a mouthful compared to the Switch Pro. Looking at most of their previous consoles, it could be as simple sounding as the “Super Switch”.
Just recently purchased Soul Calibur 2 HD for the PS3. Great music and my favorite of the series. Although it didn’t have Link in the character selection, it was a great bonus on the GameCube version. Perhaps Nintendo and Namco can release the HD version of Soul Caliber 2 on the Switch someday. It was genius having Link in that game, and perhaps fitting and unique, especially for the Zelda anniversary - if they ever do it.
Great to see Fighting EX layer now available on the Western Nintendo eShop page. Interesting they are positioning the game at no cost. Which seems to suggest that players can have option to get more characters later if they want. I remember getting the PS4 version which had a price tag on it, and wasn’t sold this way.
Where’s Fighting EX Layer? Thought it was coming out on April 15th which is today. Looking forward to getting a “Street Fighter EX” style game on Switch.
The quality of the animation and music in the trailer is impressive. Shows the developers really feel the 80s and 90s cartoon, along with the Konami arcade games represent the definite version of the Turtles franchise. Not only the most memorable but personally the most epic period for the series. My only concern is the sound effects, which needs to be more serious sounding, as this came to mind when playing Scott Pilgrim. Would be interesting if they can use the same identical Konami sounds from either of their arcade games.
1) Regarding the Wii U, that was a system that was released during the insane era of when Mobile and smartphone gaming was becoming popular. Probably nobody wanted something bulky or “unnecessary” at the time. As you were tied to being stationary, lacking freedom and movement when playing. The Wii U hardware just didn’t seem attractive enough and felt confined.
2) Personally the Nintendo Switch is too valuable of a product to discontinue with. It is really becoming the ultimate gaming platform. If the developers at Nintendo want to create the next innovation (which I’m sure many are anxious to experiment and put out), then anything bizarre and weird they implement, should be positioned as a “Super Nintendo theme park attraction”. Meaning any VR or 3D immersion concept should be done there. That way there is zero risk in harming the Switch platform and users worldwide.
After owning a Nintendo Switch after about a year it came out (probably around 2018), I have discovered that the seamless quality experience between console and handheld was an incredible achievement. I strongly feel Nintendo Switch almost reached a pinnacle moment. Surely this needs to be the “template” or model to continue to use. To follow the idea of how iPhones and smartphones have evolved. Where you continue to build and upgrade on the success, not take away or remove things that fans love.
Would be nice to have a Switch collection with Final Fight 1, 2, and 3. Either make that available as a package, or put them on Nintendo Switch Online service for SNES library. Logically speaking and looking at Capcom’s catalogue, the Viewtiful Joe series should be on Switch as well, as the arcade gameplay is similar to Final Fight.
Would love having Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 HD on the Nintendo Switch. It is odd how Sega is not making it available on this platform. Also Jet Set Radio should be another title to bring over. As for Sonic Heroes, I enjoyed the linear gameplay while maintaining the feel of the Adventure series. Sonic Heroes was polished and a quality game. Hopefully Sega has not forgotten about it.
Capcom should really consider bringing Viewtiful Joe 1 + 2 over to the Switch. Yes they have Final Fight and others. But the Viewtiful Joe series at its core, is really a modern 2D arcade side scroller with beautiful cell shaded graphics. Please Capcom you can do this! Likely there is a high number of Switch users out there who would want to experience or revisit these quality games. Would love to have this available and play on a portable handheld. Going against those creative bosses were so fun. I still own the original CD soundtrack that were released for both games.
Wonder if Capcom can port the first 2 Viewtiful Joe games from the Nintendo GameCube over to the Switch? They still hold up as incredibly modern with beautiful cell shaded graphics. Really considered as high quality arcade side scrolling games.
So happy to finally enjoy the full playing experience of DKC3 after all these years. This was a game that I didn’t get too much exposure of, due to the 32-bit era of the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn.
Don’t remember if Nintendo Life did a review on Hamster’s Burgertime original arcade archive release. Anyone who prefers the 1982 classic, it is up on the eShop.
I was skeptical at first, but really love the arcade style gameplay but with Zelda characters. The handheld experience is definitely enjoyable. You can tell a lot of work and effort was made into making this.
I was very surprised that it’s almost like a modern TMNT arcade game with the Zelda franchise. Really loved the art style used from Breath of the Wild, certainly an interesting decision to give it a more quality feel. Personally felt the handheld mode was just fine. Haven’t experienced any slow downs. Again coming from someone who plays SOR4, Final Fight, Simpsons, and Ninja Turtles I really enjoyed the arcade style of play, mixed in with some nice dialogue scenes for the story.
The Western NA & Europe cover art, is just more epic looking. Gives more clarity to the games and it works with the landscape format. The artwork is more thoughtful and shows more effort.
If Nintendo is working on Galaxy 3, there is a guess they are saving Galaxy 2 as a way to position and market later for a possible new sequel in the series. Certainly wouldn’t mind seeing another space themed Mario game, but with Bowser’s Koopalings in it this time. Perhaps thrown in giant mechas as bosses for them to operate, similar to their forms in Yoshi’s Safari.
Having 3 games shown on the front cover, appears to create a more powerful impact. The trio composition layout of the box art is clean and seems more clearly defined. Whereas 4 games would probably make things more cluttered and confuse the marketing message. Just speculation on what Nintendo might be thinking internally. Perhaps the 3D wording of the collection just goes better with three titles shown. Another guess is that Super Mario Galaxy 2 might come as an extension DLC to the collection sometime next year. Or treated as a solid & standalone game title to be sold on Nintendo eShop in 2021, as a way to fill in development release gaps due to the pandemic. Who knows there might be bonus expansion DLC content associated with Galaxy 2 (which might not be ready yet), similar to what they are doing with Super Mario 3D World.
As a Nintendo Switch owner - the effort, presentation and art direction really makes this game shine. I came with an open mind and really loved the amount of care put into this title. The pacing was important to me, so it doesn’t feel too tedious. Now with these performance numbers, and how development for other games might be impacted due to the pandemic - it just makes sense for Nintendo to bring out more Wii U titles and port them to Switch. Doing these would probably be more faster and fill in the gaps until actual new releases come. This can easily brings more revenue to the company, and please the Switch owners who missed out on games such as Yoshi’s Wooly World and Color Splash where I was very intrigued by the artistic elements and Koopalings as bosses.
Personally I really like the art and presentation. As someone who started with the Paper Mario series on Nintendo Switch for the first time, so far it is quite relaxing and enjoyable. Coming from playing action games more (than traditional RPGs), the game feels solid and the pacing is good so far. I can see why Nintendo wanted to keep it fresh and remove the complexities of grinding.
I am surprised that not many have commented about animation sprites during gameplay, which appear more blurrier and low resolution. This is compared to the previous title which had more higher resolution sprites for the characters in “half genie” on Switch. Perhaps WayForward can provide a software update fix soon.
