Square Enix Officially Confirms Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory For The West

Looks awesome to be honest. I will be grabbing this one.

If it had Theatrhythm gameplay it would be Day 1. This just looks like a PS2 game to be honest, I have no idea why they’re yet again retreading with the same models.

I've got zero connection to KH music. Loved me some Theatrhythm though.

I just need to know how the controls work and I’m either all in or passing. I’d love for it to play like the frequency/Amplitude games with three shoulder buttons being the activate/use/attack commands.

I'd been thinking a Theatrhythm KH would be great. It being a KH rhythm game is close enough.

The stuff with Kairi is also interesting so they didn't just make a KH rhythm game and call it a day.

I'll probably get the Switch version for the portability.

Actually thinking about it there maybe so many Nintendo players out there who never played the series so it wouldn't make sense to release a ryrhem game with songs they don't know right?? Sooo we should be getting 1.5 & 2.5 soon. Makes sense?

Sure those lanes at the beginning of the trailer kinda reminds a generic autorunner but then there's some more interesting parts shown
Also, looks like there's some new canonical plot here, though probably it won't make any sense without playing much of the rest

@mesome713 if they wanted a cash grab they wouldn’t have bothered including 140 songs or online which BTW Project Diva doesn’t have online. For a rhythm game, it looks solid. I recognize it’s not what you wanted though, I’m just saying.

Where. Is. A. Real. KINGDOM HEARTS GAME??? Here, you don't know these songs, 'cause you can't play these games on your system, but now you can PLAY THE SONGS! Isn't that fantastic???? Apperently, the guy suggesting to bring ports of the actual games to switch was thrown out the window...

My heart skipped a beat until I saw it was a music game

So I love Kingdom Hearts (mostly). And I love rhythm games. And I’ve always wanted a Kingdom Hearts rhythm game (ever since Theatrhythm).

I’m not upset by this existing, I’ll even get it. I’m not happy about the canon story that will definitely be relevant to future games. Mainly because rhythm games are a “love or hate” kind of genre. People who love rhythm games will enjoy this (assuming it’s polished), but people who don’t like them... well, those fans are out of luck. They’ll have to watch the story online. It sorta alienates fans, as it really shares no similarities in gameplay with the rest of the series. I have friends who are fans of the series and they have to pass because they don’t enjoy rhythm games. This shouldn’t have had a canon story, it should be pure fan service.

Also, if the game isn’t polished, this will be KH2 Atlantica all over again. Please Square, please make sure this is at least polished.

I’m looking forward to this despite being annoyed that it has story relevancy.

Great news! Never played a KH game so don't know how much I'll get out of the story, but this looks fun!

I'm buying it just to help push a possible 3rd FF Theatrhythm game (or the arcade one) to be made.

Hell, I'd take a remastered 1&2 in HD and new additions/heroes.

I will buy this day one as I enjoy rhythm games,but can we please stop getting only the spin off.

Just start with porting the 1,5 & 2,5 collections to switch please

@SeantheDon29 Terrible idea. Totally different game play experience. I'd by a KH JRPG in a nanosecond but I am not interested in a rythym game with a KH skin.

This would be like seeing if people like pizza by selling rye bread.

I got the Platinum Trophy for every KH game so far on PS4 before KH3 released as my own way of celebrating it finally coming out... I really don't like the thought of Platting a rhythm game, seeing how I never came close to fully completing Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, so I think I'll be fine either getting this on Switch, or at least never bothering with trophies for this game. I put up with Ice Cream Beat, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies.
@RodSD64 Theatrhythm had options to remove SFX to make the music easier to hear, so I think this will have something like that as well.

Pumped. I'll probably get it for PS4 for consistency sake of having the entire series

@Barbara001 @garydbz25 Fingers crossed for an announcement on those collections soon! I think all but 1 of the songs shown in the trailer have played on the games on Nintendo consoles so that shouldn't be too much of a barrier really. Final Fantasy is very Playstation-centric and Theatrhythm was still a success on 3DS before half of FF games were ported to Nintendo consoles

Too bad. Switch couldn’t get a real KH. This spin off looks basic too. I would’ve picked it up if it wasn’t a rhythm game. Oh well.

@River3636 Or at least a side story, like the 3DS got. We need KH on the Switch. Maybe not 3 (but I don't see why not) but a new special Switch game is needed.

@DrJoson I loved theatrythm, but I got that, cause the 3ds couldn't pull of FFX, you needed a console for the actual games. The 3ds wasnt a console. But they are treating the switch like a handheld here, while it could so easily play at least the remixes. I mean, they are hd PS2 games. It feels like not being taken seriously, like the big consoles get the actual games, we get the, sort of looks like it game. I mean the remixes are free for the xbox gamepass and we're not even getting the option to buy the games? That's just mean. They know we want the Kingdom Hearts games, but they just won't give it. That we're not getting 3, I can understand, but not even the remixes? We get a rythm game? It just.. Makes me really sad, you know.

@sanderev Exactly, The 3DS game was great. I even liked the GBA games as well, but this is well.. Meh.

I’m personally very excited for this! I loved the Theathrhythm Final Fantasy games, and this being a Kingdom Hearts version of that with better graphics and more story content is very exciting to me. I do hope that all the other Kingdom Hearts games will make their way to Switch eventually, but for now I have those on PS4.

5 bucks says despite this being a rhythm game, it will have important plot points that won't be covered in any future games.

@CaptFloofers of course it will, it’s Kingdom Hearts. I mean Union X is super prominent towards the end of KH3. Unfortunately ._. I mean I seriously had no clue who the kid was in a very specific boss battle. This at least is a rhythm game which I’ll play as opposed to a mobile game which I try to avoid.

I'm having flashbacks to when Square announced that they were supporting the Gamecube with a brand-new Final Fantasy game... and it was Crystal Chronicles.

I've been thinking: Can we get a Derezzed boss battle from the KHDDD? I'd even buy a rythm game for that.

I'm predicting it now: The next bigish rhythm game to be released to the switch is going to be a persona dancing game (probably 4) which will release before main series

Could we get Theatrhythm Curtain Call instead? Please?

Or even better, an all new Theatrhythm with even more music tracks.

the 2d art of the characters right at the beginning of the trailer looks like the chibi art from the theatrhythm series.

I like Kingdom Hearts. I like its music. I like rhythm games. I buy Kingdom Hearts music rhythm game.

But seriously, Kingdom Hearts has some of the best video game music ever, as far as I'm concerned. I loved the Kingdom Hearts World of Tres Orchestra Concert last year in London, with the special appearance of the series' genius composer Yoko Shimomura. Will certainly buy this one - then again, I would buy any Kingdom Hearts game, because I need to get the full story...

That being said, speaking of rhythm games, we seriously need a new Rhythm Paradise / Heaven on Switch, please!

I can't be a fan of music from games I haven't had a chance to play. It's a shame I'm required to find and play this series on another system when this series "could have" or "can be" brought to Switch as well.

PS great job on bringing over most every FF main series game to Switch. You didn't have to, and I appreciate that very much.

Hardly most of every main FF came to the Switch. Only about 1/3 were ported over. FF 1-6, 11, 13-14 are all missing. FF15 on Switch is a watered down version of the original game.

I was confused and mad at this first but then realized they had a whole concert last time a few years back only playing kh music
