Re: Gallery: This Custom Mario Party N64 is a Sight for Sore Eyes

Nick_Char

@gefflt You are wrong, though. The Classic Mode is like in Mario Party 9 (on all five boards) and while Bowser Party changes some aspects of the gameplay (fifth player, four other players play together, goal: staying alive until the end of the board), the rest is basically the same as in classic mode.
Amiibo Party is the only mode that uses core mechanics of the old Mario Party formula.

Re: Nintendo Held Back Western Launch Of New 3DS Due To Limited Stock

Nick_Char

@Yorumi Only America has the problem with the very limited stock most of the time. Despite five amiibo figures, which were sold out fast in Europe, the only other understocked item was the Gamecube controller adapter. The rare amiibo figures mentioned above could be pre-ordered for weeks and even have been available on release day in all major consumer electronic chains. NoA is the problem here. They have to get their poopitypoop together.

Re: Video: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Accolades Trailer Sings Its Praises

Nick_Char

@rjejr Nintendo confirmed it for a release in the second half of 2015 in Europe. So it could be in Q3 as well (which I think will happen, because there are many other games they'll release in Q4). In Europe we are used to wait longer for Kirby games, since he just isn't popular here. Even though I am a Nintendo fan for over 20 years, the first Kirby game I bought was Kirby Epic Yarn for Wii. That's the same with many other Nintendo fans here. It's not that big of a deal (as long as we get Project Zero/ Fatal Frame 5 soon ).

Re: The Nintendo Game Plan - How the NES Slowly Won Over the USA

Nick_Char

@Peach64 I'm from Germany and everyone of my childhood friends had a NES, SNES and/ or Game Boy back then. Nintendo was huge in Germany since the late 80s. In fact, I only know one person who owned a console from Sega. Before Sony entered the industry Nintendo had a monopoly on console gaming here.
I'm pretty sure the same is true for France and maybe even other mainland countries. So Nintendo has been successful for a long time in the most important European markets.

Re: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Developers Give Background on Design Decisions

Nick_Char

@Kasplat The European Rating systems (PEGI & USK) can be a problem for Indie developers, because they are somewhat expensive for those. How would that be a problem for Nintendo? And why would we get some games months before the US if that was actually a problem?
I also want to address, that it is by no means "backwards" that the USK actually wants to play the game they are rating, while in the US it is apparently okay to let the publishers mark some check boxes and give them a rating based on that alone.

Re: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Developers Give Background on Design Decisions

Nick_Char

@AndyWARbear I was talking about English speaking parts (countries) of Europe as well.
The point is, if Nintendo of Europe intended to release it in the same time frame as the US, the translations for all other European languages would be ready as well (maybe they even are!). But they didn't for whatever reasons (and there are reasons, we just don't know them, but we also don't have access to all the data that Nintendo uses to make those decisions!), so of course they won't release the game in certain countries, just because the game was already translated into English. Translation work is not the reason the game has been postponed in Europe in the first place!

Re: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Developers Give Background on Design Decisions

Nick_Char

@AndyWARbear Why should English-speaking parts of Europe and Oceania get the game earlier then the rest? It's not like they translate it from Japanese into English and from English into other European languages. All the translation work is done simultaneously from Japanese into all other languages. Europe always had to wait longer for Kirby games, because they just aren't as popular here as in the rest of the world. It's a marketing decision.

@StarDust4Ever
"NEarly everyone (well except kids maybe) has a credit card."

In the US. Credit Cards are not common in many European countries. Yosher is from the Netherlands. According to wikipedia "Credit card use in the Netherlands is very low, and most credit cards cannot be used with EFTPOS, or charge very high fees to the customer."

"Even if you don't have credit, and you've got a checking account, your bank will probably issue you a debit card which can be used to withdraw money from atms as well as process credit transactions."

Of course he will have a debit card. You can't have a checking account without getting a debit card. European countries have their own debit card systems, though and if an online retailer only accepts credit cards, you can't use those. (In reality it's more the other way around, though and you can't use credit cards with many online shops in Europe).

"VISA and MasterCard are pretty much accepted worldwide, not sure about the others."

I'm from Germany, I've got a Visa and I can't pay with Visa in
...many supermarkets.
...H&M.
...Ikea.
...Saturn and Media Markt, our biggest retailers for consumer electronics.
...most restaurants.
...most independent shops.
...McDonalds, StarBucks, Burger King, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts and all other big American franchises.

Re: Reminder: Club Nintendo New 3DS Ambassador Promotion Final Invites Sent, Deadline at Midnight

@mgkoeln @FritzFrapp

Nope, there was a misunderstanding. NoE had to set up a new homepage for us mainland plebs, so that they can send directly from the different Nintendo warehouses. Thanks to that deliveries will arrive faster and we won't have to pay customs (we would have if the official UK store is sending from the channel islands just like TheHut group is). The downside is that NoE probably doesn't have the necessary infrastructure of actual online shops to inform their customers about shipping and tracking services.

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo 3DS To Launch In Europe Next Week

Nick_Char

@Kolzig You can't really blame Nintendo for high prices in Finland, since they are not distributing their stuff over there by themselves and it's not their fault the VAT is so high.

That being said, there really is no point comparing prices with countries that have another currency and even within the Euro zone the average wage and costs of living are too different to make a fair comparison.
If electronics in Finland are more expensive than in other EU markets, you probably have better paid jobs, too.

"Since the British TV show Pop Idol first graced the airwaves back in 2001 (later adapted as American Idol in the US), a number of similar shows have stepped up to deliver the singing superstar search process season after season, including - since 2010 - RTL4's The Voice of Holland."

corrected.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Software Update Will Unlock amiibo Functionality With Themed Mii Racing Suits

Nick_Char

@Kaze_Memaryu This is like someone complaining about a new dish on the menu of his favourite restaurant, because he know he doesn't like it. I don't see how optional DLC and amiibo functionality (that you don't have to buy/ use), change your game unless you actually do buy/ use them (in which case you made that decision).

And believe it or not- there are many fans of the series who asked about Nintendo Kart for years.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Software Update Will Unlock amiibo Functionality With Themed Mii Racing Suits

Nick_Char

@Noonch You are wrong. They don't hide meaningful stuff behind a paywall by choice, which is a GOOD thing. The in-game features are a bonus for people who want to buy the figurines as collectables or toys. And despite the fact that we are talking here about a game, that was released before amiibos even have been announced, it would have been way less work for them to just lock 10 characters or so in Smash than that what they are actually doing with them. It's baffling that they are constantly being called out for being consumer-friendly. If Nintendo was more like Activision amiibos only would have more value in-game, because they would lock things out. Please tell me how that would be a good thing? Don't see a reason for you personally to buy them? Don't. It's that easy.

Re: Region-Locking May Be a Thing of the Past Soon According to Nintendo

Nick_Char

@zool Because it is not true- at least not with Japanese games, which are the majority on Nintendo systems. Those need to get English translations as well and no, they don't make the English translation first and all others after that. Those translations are made simultaneously from Japanese into all other languages. I guess it is easier to blame Europe though, every time we have to wait longer for a game and to forget about all the other games, we've gotten weeks/ months/ (half) a year earlier the last few years.
PS. Those games we constantly have to wait really long for (Atlus games, Rune Factory 4, Harvest Moon) don't even get any European translations, most of the time!

@Lord amazon UK; due to a faulty description of the Solus Edition, which promised the first game would be included. After the description was changed and many people complained amazon upgraded pre-orders to the Special Edition.
