Re: Nintendo Explains How It Would Combat A Hostile Takeover

Nick_Char

@Bondi_Surfer Of course there is something Nintendo can do: buy. This is how Ubisoft saved its ass, when almost everyone thought they wouldn't manage to survive the hostile takeover attempt by Vivendi. Not even Ubisoft itself. Remember how they were basically saying Goodbye at E3 2017 (? I think)?

Re: Mega Drive Mini Games List: All 42 Titles Revealed

Nick_Char

@Wavey84 Mortal Kombat was never gonna be on it as the first few games are still indexed in Germany, which means they (or any product containing them) can't be advertised in any capacity or openly sold, except in adult shops only. Indexed games are basically handled like porn here.
They could have given NA and Europe their own exclusives of course, but it probably wasn't worth it for them.

Re: There's Actually A Third Version Of The Sega Mega Drive Mini

Nick_Char

@StevenG You don't know what you're talking about. M2 hasn't worked on any mini devices before. They have done a tremendous job with the Sega Ages and GBA Virtual Console games for example, though; not re-using any code and often even using a specialised emulator for every game to ensure perfect emulation. Furthermore, I don't know why the hardware is a problem as long as it gets the job done.

In the end it is clear you didn't spend a second to educate yourself about this product and are just being negative for the sake of being negative.

Re: Brains Behind Yooka-Laylee Demaster Wanted To Recreate "The Good Old Days"

Nick_Char

@FNL Because this "fun and free little easter-egg" was actually promised during the kickstarter campaign, in which they btw didn't specify it wouldn't be ready with the launch of the game.
Backers had to wait almost two years for this mode and this is the result? It's downright insulting. I'm still waiting for the orchestral music that was promised, even though I'm not really looking forward to it anymore after all this mess.

Re: Get Discounts On Zelda, Yoshi And Lots More Games In The Latest US My Nintendo Rewards

Nick_Char

@Matthew010 You actually get 2 GBP worth of points (200), which are 5% and exactly what you got back in the Wii U days (when everyone was praising the program).
For some time now they have decreased the value of gold points by giving 5 times as much. So a 60 bucks game gives you 300 gold points now. You really can't expect them to give you a 30% price cuts for 3 1/3 games, just by purchasing one game. The reason 3DS and Wii U rewards are still so cheap is, because they haven't transitioned yet to the new gold point value. Unless Nintendo doesn't give a flying Waluigi WAH for the old systems, this will probably happen, as soon as all 'old' (more valuable) gold points have been either spent or expired.

Re: The Classic Board Game Carcassonne Brings Its Medieval Antics To Switch

Nick_Char

Carcassonne is the IP of German board game publisher "Hans im Glück" btw. No idea why Asmodee is in charge of the Switch version.

@gurtifus: Caverna and Agricola are not Ystari but Lookout Spiele games. Could still happen though, as Asmodee bought Lookout some years ago. Agricola is very likely, but Caverna is not that popular, so don't expect it.

Re: Random: Cleaner At German Video Game Age Ratings Firm Almost Mistook Nintendo Labo For Trash

Nick_Char

@Untempered-Link Yeah, thought so! Up until 2008/2009 the age rating was pretty small and unintrusive:
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mario/images/f/f8/Verpackung_PM2.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20090721102157&path-prefix=de

Then our former minister of family affairs made a big deal of the small text on it and prepared a law which fixed the size and position of the age rating logo for video games and films (up until that point the age rating for films has been somewhere on the back: https://www.wog.ch/nas/cover_large/d2/back/rdvd_tudorsseason2.jpg

USK and FSK (the film rating board) publicly objected the law, because it would ruin the cover art, without effectively strengthen youth protection. In the end they couldn't stop it, though, which led to some bizarre covers the first few months, like this:
http://www.uwes-adventureseite.de/Nintendo_DS/Syberia.jpg

After a short period of time USK and FSK came up with a solution to somewhat lessen the negative impact. Huge parts of the logo are now semitransparent and, while as big as required, the new USK logo doesn't take as much space of the cover art, because it isn't diamond-shaped anymore. It's not much, but I don't know what else they could have done.

The funny thing is, that due to the huge backlash, most of our DVD and Blu-ray releases now use so called "Wendecover" or stickers to get rid of the ugly logos. Unfortunately that's still a very rare practice with video games.

Re: The Next European Splatfest is All About Breakfast

Nick_Char

@Ardisan Sorry I ruffled your feathers, but I'm not the one turning it into a never-ending discussion, sweetpie.
Anyway, to bring it to an end: There are lot of amazing food items and options in the US and due to the magnitude of influences from different cultures, the variety and quality of international cuisines is often unmatched. I want to make it clear I'm not hating on the US, but merely making a judgement of the bread and cheese available in the US. There are other things to be proud of, no need to take it personally.

Re: The Next European Splatfest is All About Breakfast

Nick_Char

@Grawlog It's actually based on experience, but whatever...
and I don't have prejudices against the US, but I'll say this: Most of you don't have the ability to laugh about yourself. No German video on youtube without stupid Hitler comments by US-Americans, no American comedian who's not shouting like an idiot when saying German words (to underline what an aggressive language it is). It's all oh-so-funny, but god forgive someone makes a tongue-in-cheek comment about your horrendous bread and cheese.

Re: The Inevitable SNES Classic Mini Hack Is Now Complete

Nick_Char

@In_Ex_Fan
1. It is possible to use Wii Virtual Console ROMs that you bought on the SNES Mini.
2. It is possible to dump ROMs of physical games you own and use them on the SNES Mini.
3. Both of these methods are perfectly legal in most countries.
4. EULAs are not laws and by breaching them, you are not violating any law; so you are NOT a criminal. Thankfully privately owned businesses aren't yet allowed to dictate law.
5. Within the European Union (any maybe in other countries as well) EULAs are forbidden. On newer systems like the Switch you don't have to agree to any EULA if you are choosing Europe as region (since the system is the same worldwide, you can try it out for yourself, if you want!). Any EULAs you have agreed to on older systems are void, because THEY are what's violating the law. I guess some countries do actually give a nibelsnarf about consumer rights.

Re: Nintendo Has Announced the End of the Wii Shop Channel

Nick_Char

@spizzamarozzi google translate is your friend:
"You can continue to use "Wii Ware" "Virtual Console" re-downloaded, or "Moving from Wii" to move data from Wii to Wii U, but in the future these services It is also scheduled to close."

So yes, the ability to re-download games won't there be forever, but it will not shut down in January 2019.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st September (Europe)

Nick_Char

@Sinister Probably, because it's kinda like the definitive version and barely anyone would buy Gold/ Silver when Crystal is available. If they sell it at a later date they count on many people double-dipping and overall higher sales as a result.
