@PanurgeJr Woah, hold on there buddy. You don't know anything about me, my life, what I've been through or what kind of person I am. I'm actually pretty emotional and all but callous. I'm also very direct, which is basically part of my country's sociall heritage (I am German). My comment wasn't supposed to be callous. I can see it can come off as it, but all I was trying to say is, that if you are a fan of Monopoly, you probably are more of a casual board gamer that doesn't have much experience with other board games in general. I also didn't mean to imply that it's wrong to enjoy Monopoly. Of course you can like what you like. My perspective is that of a board game enthusiast whose tastes evolved magnificently the more experience I got. I witnessed the same with basically everyone else into the hobby. I didn't mean to antagonise or offend anyone.
@PanurgeJr @Dr_Corndog
There are a plethora of design flaws that make Monopoly an objectively bad game. The fact it's completely luck based, but still drags on for hours. The fact that one by one the players will be dropped out of the game and have to watch (if unlucky for hours) until finally someone wins. It's a game from the 1930's and it shows. Like video games and other kind of media, board games have evolved as well. You may consider it a classic and still enjoy it, nothing wrong with it. People can enjoy stuff, that's objectively bad. But you shouldn't be offended when others call a spade a spade.
It's normal that our ability to judge quality in any media evolves the more we are exposed to different kind of experiences within that kind of media. So yes, if all you're playing is Monopoly, Risk, Clue and similar games, you probably can't judge the quality of board games. That's not a controversial concept, by the way. You are free to link any board game-centric website or blog that gives Monopoly an actual good rating, though. Problem is, you probably won't find one. I wonder why. /s
If you are a fan of anything Monopoly, you are not a board game fanatic. Period. Monopoly is for people who only know it, Risk and maybe Clue and have never played an actual good board game.
One youtuber that played the game yesterday at NoE's headquarters in Frankfurt said the amount of moons varies wildly between levels and that some of them have way less than the desert level's ~60.
@Nomad I don't think there will be much first party support in 2018, but I hope many games of the following list will be released in the West: Yo-Kai Watch 3 (hopefully the third version) The Snack World Dragon Quest XI (plus I - III on the eShop) Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3DS (A man can dream) Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy (for Europe) The Great Ace Attorney 1+2 Yo-Kai Watch Busters
@gatorboi352 I know how "popular" the PS4 is in Japan, apparently you don't. Less than 4,5 million systems in three years isn't really impressive. Nintendo sold more Wii's in Japan in one (!) year.
I know it's hard to grasp for many Americans that there is a world outside of the US, but since this is a European site could you specify next time if something's for the US only? Thanks.
@Kalmaro Nintendo has an odd relationship with Europe, because they don't publish every third party game and expect third parties to localise their games by themselves, like they do it on Playstation? Lol
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "DQX on Wii and Wii U? Never came West."
Dragon Quest 10 is an MMORPG. Of course it never came West, because people in the West don't even buy the regular games. They sure as hell wouldn't buy a game with a monthly fee.
"DQH 1&2 on Switch? Almost certainly won't get a translation."
There is no reason to believe it won't be released here, especially since there already are translations.
"DQXI? Still haven't seen the Japanese version on Switch, nevermind it getting a release here. It's supposed to come West but is that just for the 3DS?"
Of course they didn't show of the Switch version yet. Nobody in Japan would have bought the PS4 version if they did. They want people to double dip. And the only version of Dragon Quest XI that MIGHT not make it to the West is the 3DS version and not the Switch version, lol.
"Similar to MHXX on 3DS. I've never heard Nintendo give any explanation or talk about why we don't get them."
We don't know if we will get it, but even if we won't- why would you expect an explanation from Nintendo? This is a third party franchise. Nintendo published the 3DS games in Europe, because at the time it was a Nintendo exclusive franchise. With the announcement of Monster Hunter World that isn't the case anymore.
@Geeks4Life Hey, it's totally fine, if you want a broader selection of (and more third party) games on Switch. I want that, as well. All I'm saying is that I understand why Nintendo isn't paying for those ports too happen. In my opinion they can spend their money smarter in hiring third parties to make exclusive games, which they're doing. If Switch can maintain the current success I'm confident however, third parties will release more and more games by themselves. I don't have a Switch yet by the way. For now there is enough for me to play on my other systems, so I want to clear my backlog a bit first.
@Geeks4Life Why would they fund multi platform releases, if those don't sell particularly well on their system? Who would buy a Switch that doesn't want one anyway, because Ubisoft will release Assassin's Creed on it? They DO fund exclusive games from Third parties like the Mario and Rabbids game, which does way more sense. Also, I'm neither a fanboy, nor did I take anything personal. The question is, why are you desperately trying to paint me in a bad light instead of responding to my arguments?
@Geeks4Life Most people own Nintendo consoles as secondary console and play third party games on Playstation/ Xbox or PC. Nintendo doesn't have much third party support, because at least most multi platform releases don't sell on their platforms. At least that's been the case until now. With the Switch every console game becomes also a portable game, which is a selling point over the versions on PS/Xbox. What else do you expect Nintendo to do?
Bunch of idiotic and even distasteful comments by him. Yeah, Nintendo totally chose to use cartridges to keep control of manufacturing and piss of Third Parties. Not, because the damn system is a portable and optical disc drives not only use too much power and space, but are also easy to break in case you drop the system.
Also, Nintendo DID promote Oddworld. At least in Europe! They used huge banners when it was released AND promoted it, when it was on sale. As a matter of fact, I only know this game exists thanks to Nintendo's marketing he claims doesn't exist. He comes off as unnecessary bitter and malicious.
@PAHTK No matter where you buy your games you get the icon that matches the selected region of your Switch (unless the game isn't sold in your region of course). If you change your consoles region to the US the American TLoZ icon will be displayed.
@rjejr Russia didn't get an official Mario Kart 8 bundle. The Russian Nintendo store bundled the game with the system themselves. The Splatoon themed accessories on the other hand have been announced for the whole of Europe and Japan.
@Mijzelffan You can still import the system from Japan, if it's that important to you. Language options on the system and game are the same worldwide.
@SuperNictendo The system downloads the update, installs it, reboots und then has to be rebooted again with joycons attached. There ate videos out there showing the problem is fixed. It's pretty much confirmed and I'm convinced Eurogamer didn't reboot the system manually a second time.
Also, what you're describing is your interpretation, not the info we're actually getting from the question/ answer. The question is "Can others use my games on their devices, when I'm on the go with my own device.", boiling down to family sharing. It is entirely possible, that you can use your games on another device yourself. What we DO know for sure already is, that you can link your Nintendo Account to multiple Switch devices.
@SwitchVogel Well, I have the dev leak and the full transcript of the question that was asked:
"Q: So I have a general Switch question - so I have kids and ideally I'm just gunna have one, but if I take my system with me, and my son or whatever wants to play - if I were to buy a digital game, would I have to buy it once, or would I have to buy it multiple times so they can use the games?
A: Currently, we don't have a system like that in place for Nintendo Switch. But we haven't made any final decisions on how we would approach that going forward in the future, so unfortunately I cannot provide a concrete answer."
And from that I don't come to the same conclusion you do. The father is asking if his kids can use his games on their console. He is not asking if HE can use his games on two different consoles himself.
@deKay You were wrong. This is about family sharing and the ability to play your digital games simultaneously on two different consoles with a friend. Even though it sounds different from the NintendoLife article. But that's Gaming journalism for you. A week late (this is old news) and not even getting the basics right. This one is only missing a pie chart to make the joke complete.
@G-Boy Or maybe there is an actual physical reason batteries are non-replaceable (like, don't know, the switch being a small, power-hungry device, with not a lot of free space in it). Nah, can't be that /s
@Stubi Do you honestly expect them to say "The battery is not replaceable." and nothing else? What do you think how the internet would react to that? That they are addressing this issue early on DOESN'T mean the battery will die after one and a half years. It's simply something they have to address.
@Andrzej777 They provided the Wii U for four years with some of the best games Nintendo ever made and it still didn't sell. Compare that to the kind of support Sony gave to Vita owners from the beginning. Nintendo is a business that has to make money. If you honestly complain you didn't get more games from Nintendo on Wii U after all they were offering you're just an entitled consumer.
@Yorumi "I mean fine offer the service but why not add an access panel to the battery so people can change their own?"
Because the Switch is relatively power-hungry for a portable and the battery needed to be considerably smaller OR the device considerably bigger for that to work.
But apparently the majority of people commenting on this site prefer to make sneaky remarks towards "greedy Nintendo", instead of thinking about the issue for one second.
@Phin68 They said the "NX" would not SIMPLY (!) replace the Wii U or 3DS. That's not a lie, because it's not the same statement you are putting in their mouths.
