Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: F-Zero Wii U, Octolings, and Same-Sex Marriage

Nick_Char

@JaxonH "People make lifestyle choices and that's their business."

It's 2015 and people still make that argument. The own sexuality is not "a lifestyle choice".

"Which is why I say there should be an option to turn it off because although you may find it hard to believe this kind of thing is still offensive to some people."

Having to deal with black people is offensive to some people. Let's ban all black people from all media. /s

After reading that comment section... I'll just go back to Neogaf. Where people would get blocked for writing such disgusting and hateful comments and moderators have a job that goes beyond filtering curse words.

@JaxonH: Gay people are surrounded by straight people all the time in all kinds of media, as well as the real world. Someone gay has to play as straight in those kind of games very often and you make a big fuss over an OPTIONAL same-sex marriage with ONE character? Really? Do you realize how silly, selfish and insensible that sounds?

Re: Video: Unboxing the Yarn Yoshi amiibo & Seeing How it Works in Yoshi's Woolly World

Nick_Char

@TeeJay "So then why do Reggie and the Smash Bros announcer both say "YO-shi"? Official Nintendo people and basically, well, everyone else pronounces them this way, as far as I know the UK and just the UK alone pronounce it as "YAW-shi"."

You're wrong. Japan, the whole of Europe (not onyl the UK), Yoshi himself (!) and basically everyone else except the US pronounce his name exactly as in the video above. And that's including official Nintendo people from those countries. I'm from Germany and I've never heard someone pronounce his name in the way you do.

@MikeW: In Europe it costs 20€ ($22,50), while all other amiibo costs 15€ ($17). (Yes, amiibo are hilariously expensive in Europe in general)

Am I the only one who thinks kids at that age shouldn't have their own phone? Should I have ever kids, they won't get a phone until they are 12 or 13 and it will only be a smartphone, if they are no other options on the market anymore. It's bad enough that after just a few years even most adults are addicted to be online and connected all the time at the expense of social behaviour and interactions. Don't really want my kids to grow up that way.

Re: The First Western Splatoon Splatfest Kicks Off on 4th July

Nick_Char

@Shiryu If I remember correctly, you get up to 5 points per game based on your individual performance and if your team won. The total amounts of points you earned over those 24 hours will be transferred to up to 12 Super Sea Snails. If your "team" (dogs/ cats) won the Splatfest those are doubled, so 24 is the maximum you can earn.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th June (North America)

Nick_Char

@Savino @Kaihaku The reason the original Star Fox isn't available on VC is, because of the Super FX chip. It's not a emulation problem, it's a licensing issue. That's also the reason we never got the original Yoshi's Island, but only the GBA remake.

Re: Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Development Shift Towards NX, and Away from Wii U

Nick_Char

@garthvader The reason the 3DS underperformed was because of the price and the weak launch line-up. The reason the Wii U is a flop is because the product is unappealing and confusing. The original price of the Nintendo 3DS was raised before the release, because the reception was so great. When Nintendo dropped the price they adjusted to the weak sales and only made a minor loss per unit. The Wii U was already sold at a loss when it released. There was and is no guarantee it would have performed better with a lower price point. The only thing certain is, that Nintendo would've lost way more money per unit. If you consider the 3DS only took of the shelves AFTER Mario Kart 7 has been released, that Mario Kart 8 didn't sell many systems and that the majority of 3DS systems have been sold in Japan (a country that has abandoned the home console market), it's pretty clear a price reduction wouldn't have moved many additional systems. In the end you buy a home console because you want great games. The Wii U has already one of the strongest first party line-ups of any Nintendo console. If that is not enough to you, because you want third party-support, a better price wouldn't have convinced you. Just think of the Gamecube. Not long after release, the price of it has been reduced to 99€/$. It still sold abysmally.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Acknowledges the Need to Improve amiibo Stock Availability

Nick_Char

@TwilightAngel They do. Germany got recently restocks of Meta Knight (which was available on amazon for a few days), Lucina, Robin, Ness, Captain Falcon, Zelda and Luigi (Super Mario Collection). Some of those were only available for a very short time at retailers, so your best solution is, to order your figurines in some random online-shop, wait a few weeks/ months and you will likely get it. At least here it works this way.

Re: Art Academy: Home Studio Heading to North America as Wii U eShop Exclusive

Nick_Char

@90sRetroGaming You're right about Brain Age DS, but that one was a gift from Nintendo. I don't think they would ever do that to something you paid for. There would be a public outcry, no one would buy on the eShop anymore and at least in Europe they are not even allowed to do that. I'm also pretty confident, that everyone who downloaded Brain Age in time, will be able to re-download and update it, as soon as the final version of the game will be in the eShop. Kinda like 3DS ambassadors were able to update the NES games as soon as the official release arrived.^^

Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, amiibo 3DS Portal and New Nintendo 3DS Hardware Dated for Japan

Nick_Char

@Chaoz Well, I get your point. I'm collecting amiibos because of the figurines and don't care too much about their content in games. But Nintendo has to lock small tidbits behind amiibos to make it worthwhile for others. And I don't think these would have been within the games, if not for amiibo. The extra challenges are annoying by the way. You basically have to play almost each level four times to unlock everything, which is a chore. They would have been criticized for stretching the single-player mode artificially, if it had been in the regular game. It's good to learn using the rollers and chargers as weapons, but it's pretty obvious those missions have been designed with the Splattershot in mind. Also, the best mini-game is clearly the one with the jumping squid, which is there for everyone and with all the gear that is already in the game (and that will be available in the future because of free DLC), does it really matter that three costumes are amiibo exclusive?

I'll admit, that it's nice you can use the one rhythm mini-game to play every song of the game, though.

Re: Art Academy: Home Studio Heading to North America as Wii U eShop Exclusive

Nick_Char

@ikki5 It's not a paid demo. It's a tool to create art, while the full version is a learning software.

From the August direct:
"As we mentioned last time, this is software utilizing features from the upcoming Wii U version of Art Academy. With it you can post screenshots of the images you create [...]. We are also developing an Art Academy title for Wii U, which includes in depth Art lessons."

I don't see the "more improved" part you mentioned.

Also, from the E3 Direct:
"A new installment of the Art Academy series is in development for Wii U, but we are not yet close to completing this software. On the other hand, we noticed what is happening on Miiverse and decided it was worthwile to provide a new DRAWING TOOL, by taking some features from the new game and release it in advance as a special version, JUST for Miiverse ARTISTS [aka people who already can draw]. This new software allows users to post drawings to Miiverse [and nothing else], using aspects of this new Art Academy title. This DRAWING TOOL will be available [yada yada yada...]"

Re: Splatoon Ranked Battle Mode and First Free DLC Go Live Today

Nick_Char

@Einherjar I could answer to that in detail, but why should I? As already pointed out, my "conspiracy theory" (which many people actually believed in, btw) was proven true, because there was no download for the newly released content. It is already on disc. There wasn't even a small download to unlock it.

And what kind of work would it be for Nintendo to give access to already developed content that is on disc? Please, think.

EDIT: Btw, two of the four already revealed "DLC" maps are also in the single player! So of course they are done. :rolleyes:

EDIT2: Another reason why I actually think that ALL new content is already on disc (with the exception of the August update, which will probably handled by the servers, only) is, because otherwise, people without disk space couldn't play the game anymore due to the map switching system.

Re: Splatoon Ranked Battle Mode and First Free DLC Go Live Today

Nick_Char

@Einherjar

Nintendo made perfectly clear, they intend to release 9 new maps, new weapons, new gear and new modes in small updates over the summer and all of this would FINISH in the big August update. It's not surprising at all we got new stuff today. In fact, I was surprised there was no mention of it in the weekly eShop update as I figured they'd unlock stuff every week on Thursday. People were stupid to jumping to the conclusion Nintendo would release a half-assed product, because they needed more time. If one of them had actually thought about this for just one moment, they'd noticed this makes perfectly sense for an online multiplayer shooter, that is a new IP on a system with a very small userbase. There was no way to tell beforehand how well the game would sell. So in case only a small percentage of a very small group of Wii U-owners would buy it, they had to make sure these play it as long as possible. And I was right. There was no download. All the new Splatoon stuff was just there at the time Nintendo said it would be. So it's on disc after all.

@DiscoGentleman

Dude, we are talking about an online multiplayer game, that is a new IP and is released on a system with barely any userbase. This IS a logical explanation and it also explains why there was only one online mode at release and no map choice. It's more logical than to think Nintendo would suddenly turn a 180 on their design philosophy and release an unfinished product. Oh, and look. It it also what happened. The time they said the new stuff would be available came and it was all just there. There was no update, all was already on disc! Guess I'm a logical person after all, lol.

Re: Splatoon Ranked Battle Mode and First Free DLC Go Live Today

Nick_Char

@DiscoGentleman @Einherjar
"exactly. It makes no sense to lock the content, only to reveal it about 4 days after release."

It does. Nintendo intends to offer new content every few days/ every week until August in order to keep the interest of the small Wi U userbase for a longer period of time. I wouldn't be surprised, if everything but the big August update is already on disc. Many of the DLC weapons and maps are known for a very long time.
