Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is out now in Japan and North America, helping to fill the quiet retail spell for Nintendo's home console in those territories - its timing was appropriate, too, keeping Wii U fans entertained as HAL Laboratory celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Utilising the GamePad for touch controls, including local co-op and boasting some of the most attractive visuals to date on the system, it's certainly earned some praise - we were charmed, albeit while questioning a few design choices.
Nintendo of America is keen to keep promoting the title following its launch weekend, releasing an accolades trailer to show it off - in addition to seeing some positive words about the game (a few of ours are in there) it's a chance to enjoy some 60FPS footage. Just whack the quality setting up to HD and enjoy.

Cute!
I would have actually purchased this game if I could actually control kirby with real controls instead of the touchscreen, I didn't spend $350 on a home console to play handle games on it.
@mowerdude
So what you're saying is you would have bought it if the game was completely different.
Ugh cant wait to play this game!
@TysonofTime What I am saying is if I could actually use real controls to move kirby around like in Kirby's return to Dreamland for the Wii I would have purchased Kirby and the Rainbow Curse day one, I love the art style that nintendo used for this game just that I don't care for touchscreen controls only and that you have to stare at the gamepad to even play this game. Seem like this was actually supposed to been a 3ds game instead of a Wii-u game they clearly put it on Wii-u for no point other as a filler title since they wouldn't have anything to release for the Wii u.
@NintyMan Are you sure about that this looks just like Canvas Curse.
@mowerdude
The Wii U actually is some sort of oversized 3ds, and the focus was on developing for Wii U for about a year and a half now probably. But I do too feel it began as a 3ds game, a logical succesor to the popular Canvas Curse but I don't think it got a Wii U treatment so Nintendo would have some Wii U games; I think it got shifted to the Wii U to prove once and for all the gamepad does have a function. But if anything, this proves that using the gamepad isn't as fun as they imagined. Although the game plays like a charm, you miss all the gorgeous graphics because you're so focussed on the gamepad. The gamepad is excellent for maps and inventories and such, but to fully rely on it while playing a game is a shame and a waste of my $1200 Plasma I bought which really brings out the best of this game.
I simply play waddle-dee, cause it's one of the finer looking games I've seen this generation. Where others get excited about the Order, I'm really impressed by this game and I can't wait for Yoshi to come.... And it seems we won't have to wait too long, since it got rated in Australia already. Good times ahead!
@NintyMan You think this is cuter than Epic Yarn?
impossibru
Just rented Kirby. The cuteness overload is so great. The colors really pop in person. I'm holding off until March to get it though.... trying to be a responsible adult I swear.... I need less expensive addictions.
The cuteness... Must get credit card and buy game... Must resist cuteness overload... (I can't even buy the game digital till I get some more memory for my Wii U, curse you Metroid Prime!)
Funny since it isn't technically 60fps
@Boerewors
The gamepad looks almost just as good as the TV. Some of you guys are acting like the gamepad is some monochrome calculator display from the 80s lol.
This is a game that simply couldn't exist on any other console but Wii U. That's the brilliance of this game. We're getting to experience games that otherwise would not exist without the gamepad. That's what it's all about right there. Fulfilling its purpose. Not just being some glorified secondary display (although I do like the gamepad as a secondary display) but actually being utilized to bring games that couldn't otherwise exist.
If it were every single game on the system that was required to play on the gamepad, I'd say ok then. But we're talking just one single game after a span of two years and a healthy dose of fan complaints about the gamepad not being used to its full potential.
This is just one of those games that are meant to be played how it's meant to be played. I'd be extremely grateful that we have such a high resolution display such as the gamepad that can actually display graphics so close in equivalence to that of a Wii U TV screen rather than having to play this game on a 3DS.
Game is $40, same as a 3DS game. Rather play it on a super low res, low graphics 3DS screen? Or a fully featured, extra large gamepad screen with Wii U graphics? Right. Me too.
I'm really tired of people complaining because this isn't a normal Kirby game. If you don't like the weird Kirby outings that's fine, but for those who are scared to try: give it a chance. So far, I'm absolutely loving it.
Honestly, I like this more than Captain Toad. Treasure Tracker was great, but I'm REALLY enjoying this game!
Hey, NintendoLife got mentioned!
Feel bad for everybody who's waiting for this, and this being a UK site would annoy me if I lived there. I don't expect worldwide simultaneous releases for every game - I'm patiently waiitng for Godzilla (PS3) in July, just happy that its coming west, and I know a big JRPG like XCX will take some time like many good JRPG do, but for this to not even have a date yet just seems wrong. A week or 2 or even 3, but Q4, seriously what's up w/ that?
And it supports 3 different amiibo, why not get it out? Guess Nintendo is just happy to keep selling to the scalpers.
OK, here are some positives of my own after some very limited play time.
Skip level is a feature that makes a nice safety net. I hope to never use it, but it gives me piece of mind just in case.
The 3D models of the trophy collectibles is a nice touch. As is the diary entries and the cute little rainbow road. Add them all together and it makes it seem like a much more fleshed out game experience than Captain Toad, which really could have used a map rather than just some books.
1 good thing about the touch screen controls, multiplayer is so different, stabbing things to death w/ your spear becomes an almost visceral experience. We've been passing the Gamepad around, adds to the longevity of the game w/ 2 very different ways to play, but not nearly as gimped as say 2nd player in the Galaxy games. Players 2, 3 and 4 actually play.
We don't have any of the 3 amiibo that work w/ the game but we don't seem to be missing anything. As much as I want(ed) a game that works well w/ the amiibo I don't want my other games to be broken b/c we can't find Metaknight or King Dedede.
@rjejr Nintendo confirmed it for a release in the second half of 2015 in Europe. So it could be in Q3 as well (which I think will happen, because there are many other games they'll release in Q4). In Europe we are used to wait longer for Kirby games, since he just isn't popular here. Even though I am a Nintendo fan for over 20 years, the first Kirby game I bought was Kirby Epic Yarn for Wii. That's the same with many other Nintendo fans here. It's not that big of a deal (as long as we get Project Zero/ Fatal Frame 5 soon ).
@scamander Heh, very true about Kirby being less popular in Europe. In fact, I believe Epic Yarn was my first Kirby game too, that or the NES one. Yeah, I'm pretty patient for this to come along and gosh, does it look like a beaut - you guys weren't kidding! Makes me pumped for more claymation for Wii U i.e. Armikrog! (Project zero needs to come here - debating on buying the 1st and 3rd, but alas - money).
Dear Nintendo
I know you won't, but you really should put games like this (and Captain Toad etc.) on the eShop for £19.99 (or less...please!) and then sit back and watch it slowly build up a following.
If you just do what you did with Captain Toad only devotees will buy-in at release and it will soon drop off the radar, with the price at retail soaring before quickly becoming unavailable. A few will hold out for a possible sale one day or a lucky auction on ebay, everyone else will just write it off.
I'd like to get this game, but I'm not gonna pay £25-30+ for it.

Gorgeous looking game, and looks to have some great level design. I no these sort of games don't appeal to the Halo/Cod fans but if your a long standing platformer fan, this looks like a great game.
