Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Demo Now Available At Switch 2 Kiosks (US)

Nambit

Man, I preordered this game before covid from Walmart before the "remake" and it's still valid. The problem is, there was no such thing as the Switch 2 back then. Price was cheaper at the time. I would rather have the switch 2 ver and not have to "upgrade" (I want the box).

Meanwhile, it would be nice to have a demo of this game. We've been loyal and went through a lot of crap over the years, the least they could do is....

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?

@the_beaver The controller experience is subjective. I played Metroid Prme when it came out and found it perfectly utilized the GameCube controls. For example, that giant green A button was awesome for shooting. It made it feel more arcade-like in that i could mash that button at will, whether in anxiety or frustration, just like an arcade game. Normally first person games use triggers to shoot, which is a lot like a gun, yes, but loses the satisfaction you get from mashing. No rapid fire and all that just mash mash mash.... perfect! The trigger use for spider ball was genius as well. Anyhow, the game was designed for that controller, hence why it's still considered the best configuration for that game. It takes a little effort to get used to, but it's like learning manual transmission: once you get used to it, you love it (I hate automatic). The next best controls, I find, are the wii but it's not the same game with those controls. Anyhow, as I said, controls are subjective.

I do admit, though, for SMG the portable nature of the remasters could be a game changer (total pun). I am not 100% convinced the gyro controls will be so great (if utilized). I tried to use the switch controls for pointing and such on Metroid Prime and it was too awkward.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?

Nambit

Crap, $99 for both here in Canada, and $54 for each game on their own. I finished #1, so maybe it would be smart to buy SMG2 if I take the plunge. These should be $39.99 max each.

I mean, I bought Metroid Prime Remastered and loved it, but the HD graphics didn't really make the game experience any better. The same will probably ring true here if I go for SMG remakes.

How about fixing the annoying rain + storms that would happen at the most inopportune moments (i.e. Akkala blue flame tech lab was just annoying as F* with it raining so damned often, blowing out my damned flaming torch). I also didn't appreciate getting hit by lightening so damned much. Sure, I dropped all the metal stuff... but then the lightining obliterates my weapons / shields (or at least, hits them a million times to a point where I cannot find them).

Yeah, playing game for first time on Switch2.... damn it's just as annoying as it is fantastic. GAHH!

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King

That's the proper 'c' button. Not for 'chat' or whatever BS it is now. By the way, they were way ahead of their time, as they made the 'c' button smaller so that it doesn't get in the way of the AB/XY like how I find the right analog does. This was a very functional controller that I truly loved. It did not work for all scenarios, but for the ones it was designed for, it knocked it out of the park. To me, there's no 'one shoe fits all' controller.

Re: Rumour: New Switch 2 Rumour Makes Wild Claim About Mysterious 'C' Button

Nambit

If the wii u failed, why turn the switch into a 'C'-u?? (Pun totally intended) I mean, the dual screen abilities were quite underutilized then. Although, I would love a switch version of affordable space adventures.

In terms of a chat button, it makes no sense to make it secretive if true, unless the whole chat feature is something seriously special and unique.

No point on guessing when April 2 is in a few days.

Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Switch Box Art Unveiled, Here's A Look

Nambit

I'm in the minority I guess, but I like how colourful and the pose on the Japanese box, but the NA one is just cooler because of that background. It's very subtle, almost eerie, and her suit / pose fits the background as well. To me:
Japanese - Looks more like a typical videogame boxart - colourful, catchy pose, gets your attention.
NA - Looks much more scifi - subtle, a little muted, and kinda more mature looking.
(One focuses solely on the character, while the other paints a full scene)

Re: Hands On: Afterimage Is The Most Beautiful-Looking Metroidvania We've Ever Played

Nambit

I still think hollow knight has one of if not THE best art in any metroidvania i've played. The best part is how some stuff is actually utilized in the game well. It's such a well balanced game of art and gameplay, it's hard not to consider it as one of the best. Seriously, it's the first game that made me think: "the next 2D metroid has a high bar to beat". Of course, dread was up to the challenge, but hollow knight cannot be ignored as something special. It's not just background art that makes a game beautiful.

Re: Feature: The 15 Best Zelda Bosses, Ranked

Nambit

Even though not the best battle gameplay-wise, Demise (final boss from Skyward Sword) cannot be ignored as not only is he important (did he really curse Zelda / Link / Gannon for eternity?), but he's just so freakin' cool looking and menacing, not to mention, his absolute hatred you can feel when watching.

Re: Best Of 2022: Budget Line Box Art - Is It 'Fine' Or A Sin Against All That Is Good And Pure?

Nambit

Honestly, I think it's fine.
There needs to be a distinction between original and budget for the collectors out there, especially if the budget came out years later.

You gotta make it worth someone's while to pony up the cash as an early adopter and, furthermore, make the item more collectible later on. Heck, make the disc or card/cartridge art look cheap while you are at it.

Originls are 2nd to special editions in terms of collectability in my books. The cheap stuff should be left with the original owner, never to pass hands.

Re: Commodore 64 Games Are Being Teased For Nintendo Switch

Nambit

Oh man, the C64!! Let's put it this way, the C64 is why I didn't own an original NES back in the day. There were so many games for it and MANY NES games were actual ports of C64 (and SNES had some Amiga games - Turrican anyone??). I want the old C64 games like Jumpman, impossible Mission, Raid on Bungling Bay, M.U.L.E., Archon, Ultima III (Exodus) and IV, Aztec Challenge, Beach Head (1 & 2), Raid Over Moscow, OH MAN OH MAN!!!! SO many more! Folks who never heard of C64 are in for a treat (and same with Atari 400/800). When folks talk about the fall of videogames back in the early 80's they don't know what they were talking about. We all migrated to our home computers (Vic 20, Commodore 64, Atari 400/800, etc) as that's where all the awesome games were. It was the precursor to PC gaming as this is before IBM's infamous Personal System 2 came out and the PC scene as we know it was born.. Forgot to mention, this scene has a lot to thank of apple as, back in the day, as the Apple II & C (Colour) helped usher in the whole home computer scene....

Re: Sad Times, The Amazing Flip Grip Accessory Doesn't Work On Switch OLED

Nambit

I shoved my oled switch in the flip grip and it was okay, but the bottom didn't slot in properly (about 1/2 cm gap). I was still able to play in tate mode and it was 'okay".

However, using a tablet/phone stand on tabletop mode felt safer and gaming was still great on the OLED. Not sure it's for everyone, but the switch slotted in this insignia perfectly fine and gaming was excellent (model NS-MTSA1-C):

There are other stands at amazon and such, but this one is excellent and adjustable.

Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes On Metroid Dread's Special Edition

Nambit

I ended up saving $55 in taxes alone on trading my switch and such for the OLED, so I figured I'd throw the extra bucks on this thing. The book alone is worth it for me as it's got stuff from all the previous proper Metroid games, not just Dread. I wouldn't normally get the SE, but what the heck, if I am gonna blow $40 on a Special Edition, it may as well be Metroid. (Keep in mind I am Canadian, so that dollar figure is different for folks I'm sure).

Re: Switch OLED Success "Could Set A Precedent For Charging More Across The Industry", Analyst Warns

Nambit

WTF is this sh*t!??
PEOPLE STOP WITH THIS BS!

Like, c'mon, it's just an XL! Why are people so anal about a bigger better screen? Nintendo is doing nothing different here than they have in the past.

DSi XL
3DS XL
Switch XL (but hey, call it OLED since it gets attention)

This is what I hate about the internet these days. Folks spread so many rumours and act like crybabies when they don't get what they want. The reaction to this thing reminds me of Wind Waker how foks cried about it.... years later it's suddenly beloved. Same with Eternal Darkness and such.... I bet when this thing releases, it'll sell like hotcakes.... and when it does, I'll again be pissed because the same folks who are whining right now will be the ones praising it.... smh.

Re: Valve's Steam Deck Might Be The Closest We'll Get To A Switch Pro In 2021

Nambit

This looks alright, but I think I'll wait for it to come out before dismissing or getting excited.

Makes me curious, though, on what the next true switch successor will be like as technology progresses. I'm cool with the OLED switch announcement as it's just Nintendo upgrading their portable device screen as they have done so many times in the past (seriously don't understand the hate... but there's too much hate in this world these days... like, it's cool to hate or something).

Still, I think steam is amazing on a laptop, but this still looks cool! Wish it were on my tablet (Galaxy S7+).
