A digital remaster of a classic Indiana Jones pinball table made its debut yesterday in Pinball FX3 and while many appreciate the effort, a lot of the game's community isn't quite as happy about the asking price of this new DLC.
For just a single table, fans are being asked to fork out $14.99 / £13.49. While Pinball FX3 is a free-to-download title, the table DLC in the game doesn't normally cost this much. In an official statement via social media, Zen Studios explained how it simply wanted to give fans the most "authentic experience" possible.
"We wanted to give you the most authentic experience with original music, sounds, and rules on the table just like on the real machine."
While some fans aren't so happy, others are a bit more accepting of the "licensing costs" - and the price a developer must pay (in this case, Zen Studios) to include Harrison Ford's likeness:
If the price doesn't concern you, here's what you can expect from the "first-ever digital remaster" of this 1993 Williams table:
“Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure” combines a Williams legend with everyone’s favorite adventurer – enjoy the machine’s original music, sounds, rules and look in digital form for the first time.
Experience the table just as you remember it, with true-to-life Pro Physics simulation carefully developed by the pinball experts at Zen, using super slow-motion footage to capture flipper, rubber and ball movements to better understand and recreate pinball mechanics.
Discover the table in a new way with 3D effects in the ‘Enhanced’ version, including new art, ball trailer effects, particle effects and a whip-wielding Indiana Jones.
Play at home, with friends, or compete online with single-player, local multiplayer, challenge, and tournament modes.

I used to like Pinball FX3 but for the longest time have only recreated tables instead of originals, they're kinda underwhelming to me honestly. So much for Nintendo-themed tables, or Futurama...Rick and Morty...and now a $15 table. :/
They're just looking for fortune, not glory, kid.
I actually want to get this but not for that price. We still haven't had tbe Marvel tables
Tried the demo on Steam....
Kinda slow, not so fun and can't hold a candle to other Williams games like Mars Attacks, Party Zone, JunkYard, Fish Tales, and of course.... Cirqus Voltaire!
Now if only they would finally make Pin Bot!!!
glad we have the sage wisdom of PoopyMcFarts to guide our buying practices
Yikes that's completely ridiculous. Just another "see what we can get away with" tactic that sadly seems to work since people toss money at everything. Enjoy most of your tables costing more after this if it sells well!
Man, I remember the Indiana Jones Pinball at my local Ballpark Pizza, right next to the Metal Slug, Terminator, and Nick Racing...but yeah, no way in heckaroni pepperoni am I touching that price
They always end up having great sales.
Wait.
I'd have paid this price for a Back to the Future table that didn't substitute the iconic tunes with pitiful generic ones. Licensing likenesses, sounds, and music ain't cheap
I played the original pinball machine back those days in a pub many times with my band colleagues, so I was really excited for the release. But 15€? No, thanks. I‘ll wait for some discount.
@Nambit
Yeah, the Pin-Bot Trilogy would be really cool
That's a pretty steep price for a single table regardless of the quality of it.
Look maybe it's tied up with the cost of the Indiana licensing costs. Not excusing it, but they could make it a little spicer for the price
Yeah, PinballFX has lost me for quite a while now.
I'm just not interested in these licensed tables. Especially since their original ones tend to be really really good.
I guess the Indy license was expensive.
Guys, stop being mean to Zen Studios! They only wanted to give you the authentic experience!
So it comes with an ashtray for the Switch?
Stopped having any interest in their tables since they started remaking existing tables, instead of originals.
I know they want to fully milk out that Williams license they got few years ago, but that made them lazy by going full stop on original tables.
Oh well and now this too, 1 table for €14.99.
They won't sell a lot when they ask prices like this. It would not suprise me when the price drop to 50% after a month.
So, i'm still happy with this release, the more pinball goodness the better.
@somebread Oh gee... I didn't notice the username. I've swapped it out with another comment.
Me: "I won't pay 15 for a DLC"
Also Me: "I don't have time to play all these games I spent 100s of pounds on..."
I'm on a (self imposed) game buying ban at the moment and had decided that this table would be an exception... until I saw the price. Really want it, but will definitely wait for a sale. The value compared to the Aliens, Star Wars and Universal Movie Classics packs is just not there.
I'm a sucker: I bought it because I have the entire Pinball FX table collection and didn't want to be one short. I should have waited for a discount. Sorry, brothers, I am indeed part of the problem today.
Yes, very expensive for a single table. Would have preferred if they had developed other Williams tables such as Taxi and Whirlwind, would be cheaper. At such a steep price price, It seems this table is only for fans of Indiana Jones.
I don't like the tone of entitled customers. It's like they can't imagine some licenses cost more but their default mindset is that they're getting ripped off. I hate sharing the culture of video games with these people.
Great. But too expensive for my taste
At 0:02 that image looks like from Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
I wonder if they have to pay licensing to Williams (makers of the original table), Paramount Pictures (owners of the original films), Disney (owners of the franchise) and also Harrison Ford. If so, that is a lot of licensing to pay.
Yep, I’ve been looking forward to this since they announced it, but $15 is absurd. I’ll stick with the 19 Star Wars tables I got for $30!
@Burning_Spear
No need for apologies! If the table has that much worth for you, it’s your money to choose how to spend. 👍🏼
I think Zen could have prefaced this high price with some explanation of all the licensing costs involved - they must have had to pay for the game itself, then for the music, and even for the art.
The Pinball Arcade crew would actually run kickstarters before we got The Twilight Zone or Addams Family or Star Trek TNG. Zen chose to go this route, but there was no way they could price this licensed Williams pin as cheap as their originals.
I know I’ll get $15 worth of fun from this pin and want to support their bringing authentic digitizations of classic tables, so I plan to buy this weekend.
Though I’d prefer if it was $10 or $5, of course 😜
Throw in the full soundtrack to all three movies and I’m in.
@Rambler
Nah, what it needs is a cup holder for your beer or beverage of choice! 😁🍺🍷
Damn I miss my local pinball bar 😫
I have a real pinball table in my shed so I can get an authentic experience with that.
@Lordplops I couldn't help but hear Indie's voice when reading your comment
I think what bothers me more is the context: They're launching a new base game that won't allow you to move your Pinball FX3 titles and doesn't seem to present much in the way of enhanced features. I bought all the tables on the Wii U and all the tables on the Switch — including a ton of duplicates from the Wii U — and now here's another game to start with zero tables. So after all that, when they come out with a single table for $15, it creates a bit of a money-grabbing optic for me, especially when I hear "subscription service." I think I'll just stick with FX3 for this generation. Besides, I'm getting much more enjoyment from the Zaccaria collection.
It's nuts. Its not even cross platform AND the new engine coming out in the next 6 months you have to buy ALL YOUR TABLES AGAIN.
@Burning_Spear exactly…. I love Zen. They have supported Nintendo very well. Have had a quality product….I have indulged on their products across many systems, but won’t get this anytime soon.
Authentic experience in price at least... Indiana Jones games used to be kinda expensive. If its cause of licencing costs they should say so. Franchise is not as hot as it used to be. Most tik tok kids fail the classic movie theme quiz in Indiana Jones!
I have purchased every table on the Switch; most tables on Steam and even more under the FX1 banner on the 360.
So I consider myself an ardent fan.
$15 is exorbitant and far too much money. There are far better Williams tables than Indy at a fraction of the price.
@durrdevil the entire narrative of "our new physics engine is so much better than the previous one we couldn't possibly do anything other than make a new game for you to buy the same tables again" argument is wearing quite thin with Zen.
@Joeynator3000 I don't think their original tables even scratch the surface of the Williams classics. Medieval Madness, Whitewater, Funhouse...
If they could get the Midway license...drool. I'd commit war atrocities for The Twilight Zone.
@MostHandsieBoy As to your last post ... exactly my feelings. The tables look great now, IMO. I have to start over from zero for a little bit of a visual bump and the ability to add trophies to my virtual pinball room?
The Pinball Arcade was soooo good when they had all the good licenses for tables. It was so awful they lost the rights to Williams and Bally tables, they were doing so well at grabbing the best tables- and doing whatever they needed to do to raise money for any licensing fees.
I can’t get into these versions. All the extra digital animations they add.. bleh. I liked pinball for the real mechanics of the game, if I’m gonna play it on a digital format I want it to feel as much as possible to that true machine.
@LEGEND_MARIOID I prefer the zen pinball tables, absolutely hate the Williams pinball table because it’s much more harder. Ya they should bring all the marvel tables to switch.
I wonder if all the licensing costs and whatnot are responsible for upping the price here. I doubt the Indians Jones namesake comes cheap.
I'd buy pinball fx3 if it was a decent price with all tables included £13.49 for one table is just ridiculous
$15!? That's insane. I would be more inclined to buy their tables if they were cross buy across platforms at least
Y'all need to remember that Farsight Studios had to do Kickstarters for thousands of dollars to get licenses for pins like Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Addams Family, etc. And they were never able to line things up to even attempt Indiana Jones.
Licensing is expensive and this is one of the most highly rated pins ever made. I think the price is justified.
@NickDaddyCool You know you can turn the extra stuff off right? As much as I appreciate what Farsight did... I can't go back to TPA after playing the Zen versions. Zen's physics aren't perfect either but at least I don't end up playing an hour long game every time.
@tka060681 I know what you mean about yje difficulty but I do like them both. I used to have the Willaims Pinball Classics physical on the Wii.
It just looks bad when you can buy bundled tables for several dollars less. Have to pass on this one or wait for sale
@Mando44646 I mean...i Wouldn't call it insane persay. Back in the arcade days I spend well more than $15 on the biggest, best tables long term.
@NickDaddyCool You like real pinball mechanics? Have you tried Zaccaria? It's excellent. It has a bunch of real-life tables, and then it also has several retro and futuristic versions of each table. You can play them as they would have been in the '50s or '60s. Lots of variety, plenty of challenges and achievements for each table, online leaderboards, and a live tracker that tells you where you stand on the leaderboard. It's a free download, and then you buy the tables you want.
Just a heads up to everyone: Zen is developing a new Pinball FX for all platforms (including Switch) due to come out in the next couple months. It'll be a new engine, and even though they're planning on porting some tables forward, you'll have to rebuy everything again in the new game. So, if you want this, I'd recommend waiting to get it when the new game comes.
Probably still better value than the money I spent watching The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at the cinema...
Things cost money and the only thing thats bad here is not being able to link purchases to another platform.
hi guys, for someone that is not into pinball scene , what's the best option on the switch and what you'll consider must have tables?
I was surprised at the price too but I bought it anyway. The license was probably expensive and I spend so much time playing Pinball FX3 that I was happy to throw $15 into the pot. Pinball FX3 and The Pinball Arcade helped get me through COVID lockdown. I just wish the Marvel tables would come to Switch!
I’ll just wait for a sale no big deal
I'd buy it for that price as a PSVR port. I mean, I always wanted a pinball table but I can't afford a real one, nor to have space for it. VR would be tops.
@GrailUK No, Harrison Ford's likeness was expensive.
@CazSonOfCaz That's probably true
@MostHandsieBoy Yeah. They just make a new engine every generation.
Its a new gen with PS5/SX so new Zen Pinball!!
@vanYth Yeah! You're talking Big Race USA, right?
@Chlocean This! The VR stuff is awesome. Please bring more tables to the Quest. But with the old engine. It looks so much better
@Nambit The Indiana Jones game is considered a top 10 pinball game. It really is a great game.
@durrdevil To be fair, I have played a TON of digital pinball and real life pinball. The new digital pinball games always make it harder to play older collections because they get closer and closer to duplicated the real machine.
@FineLerv They actually have a newer Indian Jones pinball game (2017?) that features all 4 films. (This one only feature the first 3.) Everyone agrees that the new pinball game doesn't hold a candle to the old one.
Just for some perspective. Buying a real pinball machine of this would cost about $9,000. Playing one in the wild, will cost you $1 per game. So for $15 dollars, you could play the game 15 times. I'm not saying that they should be charging more, but if some tables don't get published at all because of licensing costs then that's the REAL loss. If some tables cost less and others cost more...that's fine. As long as it means MORE tables become available for purchase in the future. $15 for a video game I will put 20 hours into??
I've played a lot of digital pinball in recent years and I have to say that FX3 was not really that interesting to me until they got the Williams' license. And these tables feel so much more realistic, even on the normal mode. All the other tables are tuned with really sticky flippers. They're fun for being Marvel and Starwars, but they don't feel as much like the real thing.
This table is expensive. It should have been $10, but I still bought it because I know that it's not a simple process. And really, most of the Marvel, Star Wars, and other tables feel cheap for being so similar. I had a big collection of PBA on iPad and was sad when the Switch version didn't have any of them. But PBA has vacuum ramps that make it too easy. On these tables I get lots of rejections so that landing a shot feels good.
I will eventually get this, but at its current price, not a chance, it’s inexcusable. Needs at least 2 more tables and cross platform accessibility. Just Gonna wait for a sale
@sportvater
Pardon?
But now as you mentioned it: Holy cow, how I loved Timeshocked! and Big Race USA! Great pinball sims for their time!
I assumed it was all because of the expense of the license, and their replies all but confirm that to me.
@LEGEND_MARIOID I don’t know, I did very well in some of the tables from Star Wars pinball and zen pinball on switch, even reach top 100 classic single play all time ranking with some of the table. I tried the only Williams table I got, which is the free table fish tales, I don’t like the experience at all, the ball seems heavier and faster, ball drops to the middle very easily.
