Pac-Man World Re-PAC Is A Welcome Surprise, Launching This August

Personally I would’ve preferred Pac-Man World 2, but maybe that’s coming later. Here’s hoping. I’m a sucker for 3D platformers.

I never played the original, but I'm always in the mood for another platformer. Is this game any good?

This was probably the biggest surprise of the Direct for me. Looking forward to it.

This was probably my highlight of the Direct (if you don't count the new Sonic footage which I'm still realing from!).

They never reviewed particularly well, but I really enjoy the PacMan World titles. This remaster looks beautiful - exactly like I'd want it to. Glad they didn't go overboard modernising it.

The Direct was solid, but only this and the Mega Man collections have piqued my interest. And I’ll stick with the standard edition, thanks. This generation has effectively killed my special edition tastebuds.

The one-two punch of Battle Network and then this destroyed me. I wasn't ready in the slightest.

I am so, SO excited for this though. I've never played the original Pac World so I'm stoked to hopefully play a Pac-Man game that I won't get bored with after 10 minutes! 3D platformers are my absolute jam.

It's one of those games that doesn't have the highest review scores but was made at a time when it feels games made had a lot more soul than 90% of the big AAA blockbusters made today.

If you want a cozy-feeling humble platformer, Pac-Man World is it.

I really would’ve liked to have gotten both world games but this is nice to see regardless.

@Ade117 Yes, its good. The main criticisms at the time of launch was that it felt generic and slightly old fashioned compared to its contempories which were trying to innovate both technically and expanding the genre.

I think people were concerned that "3d mascot platformer" was going to become the new default unimaginative genre, like 2d mascot platformers did for a while in the 16bit generation... so despite it being perfectly competant, and really fun if you like similar games, most reviewers were like "just by Banjo Kazooie or Spyro the Dragon instead"...

But nowadays, those things don't really matter because the market is hardly saturated with thios genre, and a good game is good. If you have a hankering for a retro style 3d platformer that's new to you, its very solid.

Nice surprise announcement. Will definitely be added to the collection. Hopefully, 2 and 3 follow it.

Honestly, this looks fun. I was never into the Pac Man platformers in the past, but after the Pac Man Museum, I have that Pac Man fever lol. I’ll probably give this a shot.

I will definitely get the PC Version, i owned this one (PS1) and Pac-Man World 2 (NGC). here's hoping that there's plans to Remake 2 and 3, if this does well enough!
Edit: i skip through the part where it was saying that it was coming to steam. i'll get the switch version still later though.

I remember playing pac man world 3 on the PSP years ago. Gotta pick this up along with the battle network collection.

Very excited about this announcement! Pac-Man World is such a fun and charming game, with an unbelievably good soundtrack.

I'm so glad that Bandai Namco is remastering this. It felt like Namco had totally abandoned this series despite all its fans requests over the years.

On a side note, I really hope that Namco can resolve the Ms. Pac-Man situation. I would have really liked to see her in this. It reminds me of what Sonic fans are going through now that Origins has replaced the MJ tracks in Sonic 3. Two games suffering from legal issues are causing the modern generation to miss out on a beloved aspect that the originals had.

Overall, however, I'm still very much looking forward to this and all the changes it'll bring. If it sells well, I bet remakes for the other games will be coming too.

Nice but hope it's not full price given Activision gave us three remakes in one package with Crash and Spyro...

This was the highlight of the Direct for me. I've been hoping this would happen for so long. Now the probability of Pac Man World 2 coming back is higher than ever.

What an amazing surprise. I loved the world games. I know they just announced this one, but with this remake, I hope to see Pac-Man world 2 eventually.

@John_Koshiro Yes, the removing/replacing of Ms Pacman and other characters in the games of the recent collection, as well as not including Ms Pacman itself (by far my favourite of the classic arcade Pac titles) made me actually not want to get the collection. I may pick it up on sale, but I know the changes will annoy me.

That said, for this game, I'll let it slide, because I really love retro platformers and this is a good one. I want them to keep going and do the sequels as well. But they really need to sort out the rights issue with At-Games.

I haven't played Pac-Man World since I was 7?-10? The pirate world (probaly since I havent gotten far past that world and was playing from another house), Feeling the rumble of the pac-rev (Namco, please get the rumble in this.), seeing pac man in 3d was a scary yet magical experience.

I would've liked the UI to be a bit more minimalistic like the high score, PACMAN letters (KONG from DK Country), and the health icon only appear when it happens. Nethertheless, I will be happily playing this.

On another note. If they're going to remake world 3, please have Ms Pac Man legal mumbo jumbo dealt with and the original dialog back since the writing they did for Pac Man was wonderful.

I vowed that a remaster of the full trilogy would be a day one purchase for me. And while this isn't that, it's certainly a start! Definitely the biggest surprise of the Direct for me, I'm grabbing it day one.

As excited as I am to see another PS1-era Namco platformer get the remake treatment, this is also yet another sad reminder of Ms. Pac-Man being phased out of existence due to, of all things, legal issues with a hack company like AtGames...

I actually gasped when this appeared out of nowhere, a remake/return for the Pacman World games is something i've been wishing for for a very long time, i never thought it'd return after such a big absence, i'm so hyped for this, it's now my most wanted game for the year, hopefully 2 and 3 are next, the third game isn't as loved as 2 but i really enjoyed it.

This was my first 3D action platformer and I enjoyed it a lot, the music in the trailer gave me a blast of nostalgia.

So the trailer includes a jazzy remix of one of the songs from Ms. Pac-Man. What does that mean for the rights to the game? I know they're still using the "Pac-Mom" redesign, but it's curious. I'd still love to see Ms. Pac-Man come to Switch somehow.

But man...THIS IS AWESOME! I didn't grow up with the original Pac-Man World, but the sequel on GameCube is one of my favorite games. I really hope 2 and 3 get the same treatment. Surely it's only a matter of time, right? I've hardly played the first one, so this will basically be like a brand-new game for me.

I really love what Namco has been doing lately. So many stellar remakes of their fifth- and sixth-generation games: Pac-Man World, Katamari Damacy, Mr. Driller, Klonoa...It's all great stuff, and I hope they don't slow down anytime soon. Not just for Pac-Man, but remakes of the other Katamari games would be super cool. Reroll is lots of fun, but an incredibly short experience. I need more giant, sticky ball-rolling action!

I remember it as one of the best PS1 platform games ever.

I was literally playing Pac-Man World yesterday, and then they announce a remake the next day.

Nier really grabbed my attention but this 3D Pac-Man was really a nice surprise! This and the SD Gundam game may be my Bandai purchases this year.

Excited about this one, but I would love to see a remake of the Dreamcast's Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness. I loved that game and would love to see an updated version and/or sequel.

Yes! This is what I wanted and it's a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting it to actually come true, I thought it would never or would be years.

I recall playing this on an old PSX demo disc at my cousins place many years ago. I found it interesting but never got to play much more of it beyond that. I’m certainly interested in checking it out. The only other Pac-Man game that particularly had my interest was the Pac-Man Arrangement version that was on the GBA collection.

Like with Some of the Bomberman games, I appreciate when they take a solid core concept and expand on it beyond reusing the same layouts, and introducing small mechanics to spice it up a bit.

Great to see this getting another remake the remake in 2004 was also good.
