Every now and again, a collector's edition comes along that really nails it. This is one of those, and RIP to the wallets of any Tetris fans with a space on their shelf, because it costs $100 to own this lovely objet d'nerd.
Limited Run Games have teamed up with Tetris Effect, the Tetris-meets-meditation game, to create a series of limited-edition collectible physical releases of the game. Of course, there are the usual game-in-box versions, but who cares about those when you can get a real-life tetromino to cuddle at night?
The tetrominos come in Red Z for Nintendo Switch, Green S for Xbox, and Blue L for PlayStation, and honestly, it's PERFECT. Maybe they could make a Purple T for the Dreamcast, too.
Alongside the lovely shape, the $99.99 Collector's Edition also comes with:
- A physical copy of Tetris Effect: Connected
- Tetromino-shaped Collector’s Edition Box
- CD OST with 50 tracks on multiple discs
- Digital download code for OST
- Three eye-catching pins
- 32 postcards featuring artwork from the game
- A frame for the postcards
Pre-orders are open now, and... Look, we'll just give you all the links, even though this is a Nintendo site, because you can't have one tetromino without the others. They'll get lonely!

The Z and S shaped boxes are gonna be a pain for display and storage, haha.
It's great though, and I really want that and the soundtrack CD, along with the physical game of course.
They should make one for every shape.
Actually, probably not, collectors would go nuts.
Still wanna get this game sometime, I hear it's a really good Tetris.
I usually only get the Special Editions of games I truly like, but Tetris Effect: Connected might be the exception just for the idea of having its soundtrack on CDs.
Of course if the sountrack is released separately then the standard edition will do it.
I usually don't like LRG model and the fact that their games aren't sold directly in Mexico, but I'm gonna find a way to get this one. Though my expectation to get it is pretty low unless a Mexican retailer has stock of it.
Haha that's funny. It's gonna require a bit of Tetris in itself to be able to place that on your shelf with other collectables.
@Yosher I would say in itself it's a good game, but if you're prone to seizures or can't handle strobe effects, you should probably steer clear from this one. The game relies heavily on visual effects. I personally don't have much of a problem with it, but my girlfriend had trouble, even with every graphical setting set to low or off. The game can be a bit much visually. Also, I found the music quite underwhelming, but that's all down to taste, I suppose.
Tetris Effect is one of the best games I've ever played in my life, and I'm R E A L L Y tempted by this very expensive collectors edition!
@Yosher It's arguably the best Tetris. it has gameplay modes for every Tetris player, lots of content, and it runs like a dream on Switch.
as mentioned above, it relies heavily on visuals, so if you have photosensitivities, take that into consideration.
They can't do this now, I've gotta save for a new switch ;~;
I really wanted to get the collector's edition but at that price, the standard edition will have to do!
You've got to be kidding me!
Plllease tell me that we can buy the soundtrack separately. I don't want an oversized box, and one with that ridiculous shape, even less so! But if it is to scale (as demonstrated in the image) then I suppose it won't be too bad, but still...
EDIT: And depending on what's in store for DOOM Eternal (of which I might buy two copies), this might be my most expensive LRG order yet. The shipping rates are also ridiculous even when buying the barebones releases!
@KateGray they also have a bundle of all three:

You have to really love tetris to buy that.
@CharlieGirl @Pillowpants Thank you for that warning, but thankfully I'm not one of those folks who has a problem with it! Sorry to hear about your girlfriend though on that note Pillowpants, kinda sucks when you have that issue and have games you really want to play but can't because of that kind of stuff. At least Tetris has tons of other options!
I'm definitely gonna get it at some point though. Looking it up, it appears to be on sale right now (at least in Europe; unsure about the US).. but I also would love to get it physical.
Think I'll just buy it digitally and then maybe get it physical later if the option ever comes up. Not counting this collector's edition because I'm not looking for a collector's edition of Tetris.
@Bunkerneath : That's nuts.
Funnily enough, the Xbox version offers the worst value overall.
The PS4 version includes VR support in addition to a premium home console experience, while the Switch version offers handheld play.
Which makes me wonder what exactly the Xbox family has to offer that Nintendo and Sony doesn't (broadly speaking).
Either way, one would have to be crazy to grab all three versions. I think owning four Tetris games on a single console is crazy enough, but at least they all bring something a little different to the table.
@Bunkerneath So with that option you get the same items 3 times (barring the different versions and the Tetriminos)? Sounds like a waste of money to me. I'd rather have the other 2 Tetriminos empty.
EDIT: @Silly_G
Or a scalper
This edition also has a special surprise where stacking several of the boxes into a few nice rows causes them to vanish into thin air
@Mz3player : And for my next trick, your $300 + shipping costs will disappear!
Tetris might just be the greatest game of all time. No matter what version it is, I will play it over and over and over again, and never get tired of it.
Still no Labo VR support?
@nukatha : Considering that the Labo range is discontinued, it's unlikely that they would bother for such a limited audience.
It would be nice if Nintendo would issue their own headset though (though it would have to be adjustable to factor in the different screen sizes between the OG and OLED Switches).
@Silly_G
Apparently they're close enough that Labo VR on the OLED still works alright, but I only have an original, so cannot verify that.
There's a soundtrack available?...
... Opens Apple Music ...
Cool! There's a soundtrack available!
sometimes these special editions don't seem worth the money but this one is packed with good stuff
So are you telling me that Playstation fans are finally going to take the L?
@Yosher Well, we originally got it during a sale as well and she loves Tetris. It was a bit of a bummer she couldn't play for longer than say 15 minutes or so, with all settings set to low/off. The 3 player vs CPU mode is a LOT of fun and we've played it quite some times, but in short bursts. Which is just as well, because I think Tetris is best enjoyed in short sessions.
@Silly_G It can be played on an Xbox, which is helpful if that's the only console you own
@nukatha : Just to clarify, I meant that I would like for Nintendo to issue a non-cardboard headset so that people can play VR compatible games without holding stiff (or soggy) cardboard up to their faces.
@HammerGalladeBro : Sure, but the appeal in scalping LRG releases has greatly diminished since they started offering open pre-orders, and the mark-ups now typically aren't as bad as they used to be.
@Pillowpants Guess I'll have to see for myself, as I just bought it! Was only about €18 for me as I had a bunch of gold coins saved up as well, so that seemed like a good deal to me. Thank you and @CharlieGirl again for the recommendation!
Why would you suggest a purple T for Dreamcast? Does GameCube mean NOTHING to you!?!?!?!
ok now give us Rez, you c o w a r d s
T block is my favorite but balancing on a shelf would be hell
Still can't imagine playing this on any normal screen after playing it in VR... definitely the way it's meant to be played.
The box shape, CDs, and pins make this one especially tempting but as I've said in previous comments sections I think LRG is just overpriced, overhyped nonsense, so thanks but no thanks. Hopefully the CDs get sold elsewhere in the future.
I think I'm missing something with the Z...
I don’t go for collectors editions but that is nifty!
@CharlieGirl so a perfect game unless you have photosensitivities
I can't wait to get this game. The sales are getting better, just need a nice 50% off and I'm in.
This is a nice collector's box, but I fail to see the appeal of the game... but everybody is over the moon, is it really so good?
