We had high hopes for Yuji Naka's upcoming game Balan Wonderworld, but admittedly weren't too impressed by the demo. Still, the show must go on, and with this in mind, Square Enix has now debuted its new trailer titled, "A Hero or Two".
This particular video focuses on the local co-op mode and "stars of the show" Leo and Emma, who can "save the day" by combining their powers. All up, this 3D action-platformer will feature over 80 costumes and twelve different tales.
Earlier this week, the game's producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto revealed the game would receive a day-one patch to address the feedback the team received from players who tried out the demo.
"Staying true to the nature of Balan Wonderworld, I would like for us to follow in the footsteps of the enigmatic maestro, Balan, and find balance within our own heart. Especially when it comes to addressing feedback that we’ve received from our demo.
There’s been a wide range of opinions and responses to the demo, and unfortunately at the current stage of development, it simply isn't feasible to reflect every piece of feedback into the game. However, to offer you all a more balanced gameplay experience, we will be implementing a day one patch for the full game.
Specifically, this patch will adjust movement controls, camera movement, and rebalancing of the difficulty. There's just over a week left until launch now, so I hope you all enjoy the world of Wonderworld to your heart's content!"
Will you be checking out the full game when it arrives next week? What do you think of the co-op mode in the video above? Leave a comment down below.

Thought it played bad now well try see two times the badness, now good luck trying to find a friend to play this crap.
To be honest, it probably just plays as badly as all those wannabe mascot games did back in the 2000s minus nostalgia.
If only there was another co op game comeing out on March 26 than this crap.. if only /s
This game doesn't need a patch, it needs to be significantly delayed; it's simply not ready in its current state based on what I played in the demo. I know Yuji Naka can do better and I know the dev team can do better.
Yeeaaah, still not getting it. That Day 1 patch is going to be a band aid on a bullet hole, there is so much wrong with this game that can't be fixed by a patch.
This is going to be a disaster.
No thanks. They honestly should delay this game especially for Switch.
Square,
All is forgiven if you give us Chrono Trigger, DQ 4 to 9, FF4 and 6!
@OstianOwl I think so to They just need more time maybe another year or two.
What kind of monster would want to see others tortured by making them play such a game?
It looks like the characters still run slowly. I have an open mind, but I don't get the feeling they've addressed the issues that hindered the demo.
I was pretty intrigued, when Balan Wonderworld was first announced. I thought the demo was decent enough, but it definitely diminished some of that excitement I initially had towards the game.
You get what you get as a publisher with budget and time constraints as the most important thing
This game has "bust" written all over it.
My excitement for this game when so down, it passed hell.
If I asked a friend to play this with me, I would lose a friend that day, if not all of them.
Knights successor, this isn't.
Please tell me this game will feature a suitable warm, endearing duet between male and female performers during the final boss battle that is covered by children in the credits sequence.
(Since this is such an obscure, specific reference... This is ending of Nights, though my memory may be off on where the songs are actually performed in game)
Seriously though... Dreams Dreams was amazing.
Edit... I should've watched the trailer to realize I was right about part of it. Now I just need the children cover version AND dance/party version.
This reminds me too much of Mighty No.9...
Judging by the comments I wonder what's worse, this or that new contra game everyone forgot about
The game has a lot of performance issues on Switch, but for whatever reason, I kind of enjoy these janky games. One of my favourite games last year was Disaster Report 4, now that game ran horribly on every platform but even more so on the Switch, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. Interested to see the reviews for the full game.
It's funny though.
When the game was first revealed I thought it didn't look good or interesting at all.
Then I saw all kinds of people hype it up, getting excited and talking about how this designer was responsible for Nights so this could be very good. I decided to give the game the benefit of the doubt and put it on my radar.
And now I'm back to my original opinion on the game.
We shouldn't hope for a delay. 3D platformers aren't Square Enix's thing and clearly they didn't allocate enough of a budget for Naka to make the Nights homage he envisioned. The release deadline is part of the deal.
If we're lucky the game will raise enough earnings for SEnix to decide they can afford dev money to make improvements down the line.
Oh yes, this will be a Day 1 buy for me ^3^ so cute and funny ^3^~♡
The graphics in the demo on switch didn't look like that at all. every effects (light, reflections) were removed , there's aliasing and the resolution is meh
I couldn't help but think that the game is so simple, that you could probably control both characters at once with a single controller and still have working camera controls.
@jamesthemagi they already gave us those games.
@Feguy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSJN4hN28kg
everyone: this game is horrible, delay it now, worst game of 2021
me: i love this game, everytime i jump into the demo it makes me smile, the patch is nice but was not needed
Do I have to face my fear that this game will destroy my spirit?
Can't wait for the reviews. Love a good car-crash of a game.
Why would you make someone else play the dog pile of that game with you? Because you hate them?
Best thing Square can do is let this game release quietly now and pretend it never happened...
@PortablexombieV2
Yes, but not on the Switch
Let me dream
Biggest issue with 2 player is how the camera does not give a DAMN where player 2 is. Completely ruins the co-op mode. Just pan back and keep both characters in frame!
@OstianOwl In all honesty though, and I say this being a 2D Sonic fan, when was the last time Yuji Naka produced/directed or programmed a widely praised title? I can only see Sonic Rush.
@DragotheKomodo If you don't mind me asking, what do you think it is about the game that is making you smile every time you jump into it? Genuinely curious, from someone who is hoping this game still turns out to be enjoyable at the end.
@Knuckles it is charming, with deep stories where everyone can find something relatable
-hard work lost in 1 swoop
-seen as a freak
-doing something nice, but none cares
and a good game does not require complex controls, if a game only requires 1 action, why not put it on multiple buttons? cause if not, those would be useless
@DragotheKomodo Thanks for the explanation. As someone who grew up playing the Genesis Sonic games, I'm quite used to having multiple buttons mapped to the same action. I'll admit though, I found 6 buttons being mapped a little more funny than the Genesis Sonic games' 3 buttons for jump.
I do think the game's atmosphere is beautiful, and plan on picking it up at some point regardless of how it reviews. I'm just hoping for the game goes over well. Based off of the demo, it seems like the Switch will have performance issues compared to other platforms, so I'm not expecting the highest review score from NintendoLife, but I am expecting a fair assessment of the game.
All the developers need to do is read this thread and a similar one on Resetera and come to the conclusion that the game needs work before release..
The demo of Balan Underworld was terrible. Going from the well done cutscenes to the flat gameplay just makes the game look terrible. Not to mention how bad the movement and level design is.
they cant even delay this game Square has fallen so low in quality standards damn.
@jamesthemagi and kingdom hearts story so far on switch
@PickledKong64
Ah yes, I had forgotten that one, but completely agree!
I'm excited, the Steam demo ran great and I love playing weird games like this, so I look forward to getting it once it comes out. But, not really interested in the co-op.
Its the worst playbale demo on the shop.
@DragotheKomodo Honestly, I feel the same way as you do about this game. I played the demo and liked it, I was even playing it more last night trying to collect more Balan statues, which gives in to my love of exploring levels and reaching places.
I see what they're doing with this, the worlds are meant to be surreal and about helping someone with their troubles.
Will admit, I'd like a bit more polish. I did notice a framerate dip right when a level loaded. Hopefully that bit of polish is in the patch. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to this game.
@DragotheKomodo eh... I actually like this game °3° It really looks lovely ^3^
