Re: Launching NX Next Year Is The "Proper" Thing To Do, Says Nintendo Boss Tatsumi Kimishima

Mogster

Yeah and whose fault is it that there isn't enough software to justify a holiday-season launch? It's yours, Nintendo!

I understand why the shares dropped, if I were a shareholder I'd be pissed that NX isn't launching in the spending season. Nintendo should have done everything possible to launch this year.

The ramifications for this failure are huge. It also means NX will miss out on the big annual titles, such as CoD and Madden or w/e. NX won't be able to advertise itself alongside those titles, which is going to have a huge (negative) effect on sales.

Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game

Mogster

Yeah Nintendo done goofed here. Nintendo will have an abysmal launch, as always.

People aren't going to be interested in buying another console when they've literally just spent their money on a PS4K. Nintendo should have gone head-to-head with PS4K, as now they have lost valuable ground to it. A sort of generational 'reboot' is happening in the industry, with Microsoft also rumoured to launching a slimmed down X1.

This would have been the perfect time for Nintendo to get in on the action. People talk of NX being 'overshadowed' if it had launched this holiday, but I'm afraid that line of thinking is what got Nintendo into this position in the first place. They should be matching, if not surpassing, every single advertising dollar that Sony/MS throw out. NX wouldn't be 'overshadowed' if Nintendo had any interest in advertising.

But they don't, and unfortunately advertising is what sells things. Always has been, always will. Nintendo needs some real-world advertisements too, not just digital. Instead of being seen as competition ("dude are you getting the PS4K?" "nah bro did you see that console Nintendo is bringing out? I'm asking my mom for that instead as I already have a PS4!") NX will release with little fanfare and thus history repeats itself.

If Nintendo misses the boat on that 'reboot', not even our mightly Lord Arceus can help them.

Re: Talking Point: PS4K 'Neo', NX and Supplemental Computing Devices - Home Console Gaming May Be Changing

Mogster

@westman98 It won't devide the userbase at all, because if they rumours are true then ALL games developed for PS4 will have to function as-is on PS4K, and vice versa. There will be no PS4K 'exclusives' like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.

You've answered your own question. Like you said, the PS4 is the most successful current gen console by a large margin, so they should want to build on that success. That's what Nintendo should have done with the original Wii; if the Wii U had launched 3-4 years into the Wii's lifespan while it was still the 'must have' device, it would have had a much more successful launch.

Re: Talking Point: PS4K 'Neo', NX and Supplemental Computing Devices - Home Console Gaming May Be Changing

Mogster

@Project_Dolphin I'm not sure I agree, and your logic seems a flawed. What exactly is the reason that PS4k 'has' to be a response to NX?

When has Sony ever cared about what Nintendo is doing? Why should they? Nintendo hasn't been a direct competitor of Sony's since the launch of the Wii ten years ago.

As mentioned in my previous comment, the release of a PS4K only helps Nintendo because it justifies its position in the marketplace, rather than leaving it in a mid-generational void that nobody really cares about.

The PS4K isn't a response to Nintendo, it's based purely on the PS4's lack of power and the need to upgrade it for things like VR to operate smoothly.

Re: Talking Point: PS4K 'Neo', NX and Supplemental Computing Devices - Home Console Gaming May Be Changing

Mogster

The PS4k or 'Neo' will only benefit the NX. Sure Nintendo is going to have to plug more into marketing dollars (which should have been on the cards anyway) but people are much more likely to be open to the idea of a new system if there is more than one new system coming.

Rather than releasing in a mid-generation void, the PS4K has justified NX's exitence and will no doubt help boost the NX's profile, and hopefully, it's sales.

'Why would I buy another PS4 for $400 (rumoured) when I can get a whole new console for $300-350?' If Nintendo does their marketing (and the product itself) right, this will be the conversation on the industry's lips.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of My Nintendo and Miitomo?

Mogster

@Shiner1776 If you don't have seperate personal/business Facebook accounts then you are doing social media wrong.

I have a business page I use with clients and a personal account I use and enjoy with my friends. I linked my personal account with Nintendo.

If you are mixing your personal life and your business life together then I'm afraid you're in for trouble down the line.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Mogster

'Not sure either way' is the only logical answer, at the moment. After Destructoid's analysis revealed that the image hasn't been heavily doctored, it means that this controller actually 'exists' - although whether it is something someone has 3D printing and put together themselves or some official prototype remains to be seen.

I also find it interesting that NL decided not to use the full image (with the post-it note), what was the reason for this I wonder

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Fortress of Secrecy Needs to Tighten Security for the Year Ahead

Mogster

I think leaks are incredibly important as they help generate hype and buzz - something which Nintendo is awful at doing. Look at the Paper Mario trailer 'reveal' trailer - a minute of dull footage with a Shibata voice over. What happened to Twilight Princess style trailers Nintendo!?

Nintendo is failing to capatalize on the interest surrounding their new console. People WANT to know what the NX is, and Nintendo's failure in telling people is what is causing these leaks.

If I were in charge at Nintendo, I would have issued a statement at the beginning of 2016 announcing the date for an NX reveal conference. Invites to news websites, such as BBC, Sky etc. would have being sent out (also to gaming sites like NL, Kotaku etc) with sites being told they are allowed to share images of their invite. Perhaps the invite would have a picture of the console/some hints on it to get people speculating and talking about the product.

So far Nintendo is keeping mum on the NX, which is why rumours and leaks happen. Everyone is desperate for info Nintendo!

Re: Poll: Did the Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Kickstart 2016?

Mogster

Starfox has somewhat redeemed itself, and will probably be picking it up.

FF still looks dumb. It's just like Triforce Heroes; multiplayer games in series' which have built their fanbases up through single player games. No one asked for multiplayer games. the fans of those series' don't want them, so why are Nintendo developing them? Who is their target audience?

What's worse is FF is online only. The only time I play my 3DS is my daily two-hour commute, so I guess I can't play FF at all on my handheld console. A console which was designed for to be played anywhere. Why make a game where you have to be tethered to an internet connection?!

The whole thing is just stupid and ill thought out. I don't know how this game got approved. I LOVED the online multiplayer in Hunters (I would wake up early every morning to play before college) but that still had a (fairly) decent single player mode that I could take with me on the train.

I just don't know what is going on with FF. How is it even a thing??

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

Mogster

Why would they create such a gorgeous looking game, and then ruin it with gimmick based gameplay? Does Nintendo even know what their fans want anymore?

Why should I have to tap a card to colour it, what is the actual point of doing that? And flick it to start a battle? Seems like the kind of pointless mediocrity that mobile games relish in.

Re: Nintendo Should Follow In Marvel's Footsteps And Produce Its Own Hollywood Movies, Say Producers

Mogster

@NinjaWaddleDee Nah.

They could do so much more with a Mario movie, even following the basic 'kidnapped Princess' plot. Why does Bowser kidnap Peach? How? What is the aftermath? How does Mario feel? Does he even know Peach? Why does he help? etc etc. They could easily flesh it out into a real, tangible plot with emotion and depth.

Personally, if they were going to start their own cinematic universe I think they should start from the beginning. Reboot Mario's origin story, make the supporting characters fun and lovable like in Ralph/Big Hero 6 etc. Follow Mario's development from a nobody to a hero, induldge in his emotional growth, have a touching scene where Mario wants to go back because he doesn't believe in himself and have Luigi talk him around.

Disney is on a roll with movies lately, with Ralph, BH6 and Tangled being the highlights, and I feel they could make a beautiful Mario movie.
