It seems that the Pokémon company is trying to get the hype machine moving at full speed, with a planned Pokémon Direct this Friday that will no doubt have some big announcements.
The Pokémon company has especially shown interest in mobile devices lately, with Pokémon Shuffle being ported over and Pokémon GO on the way later this year, and it's continuing that trend now with a free new app.
Pokéfans that own an iOS supported device can now download the Pokémon Photo Booth app free of charge. Basically, this allows users to snap pictures of themselves and overlay them with Pokémon themed captions and designs, then share them with friends over social media.
Sure, it's a blatant marketing tool to spread the word of Pokémon's 20th anniversary, but it's a fun little app all the same. As for Android users, there's plans to bring it to the Google Play Store later, so hang tight.
What do you think? Will you be making much use of this? What do you think will be announced this Friday? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

It's cool, but I'm not sure how much I care...
I probably won't download it.
"Pokemon Snap"?
XD
Good subtitle, jiji, xp
@SakuraHaruka If only we got a Pokemon Snap 2 for the Wii U! Wouldn't that be something if they revealed it on Friday!
The title caused me to think that it had already been ported to android, as I already read about this earlier today.
looking forward of putting villager in there.
Forgive this old man his ignorance, but isn't "app store" generic?
Don't Amazon, Android and Windows also have "app stores"?
Still waiting for Android to get the Pokémon Trading Card Game app that iOS got in 2014.
I'll play it. I mean, I'll pretty much play anything Nintendo or its subsidiaries put out. Because it's usually not crappy.
Maybe I'll check it out when it comes to Android.
Well, it certainly looks fun, but despite it saying it runs on all devices, it crashes every time it triesto open on my iPad 2. It even caused it to restart once! Has anyone else had this? And yes, I'm running the right version of iOS.
Oh wow, that actually looks kind of cool-iOS? Never mind then...
I guess the 3DS could clearly not handle this?
Are any of these Pokemon,Nintendo apps and games coming to windows phones?
@RadioShadow
It's not as easy to output things to social media, which is what this is intended for. Plus the 3DS' camera(s) is/are atrocious...
@RadioShadow Troublesome to upload anything. Nowadays everything is done by touch of a but, oh, screen. I'm not even sure, but I think you might as well unscrew your 3DS and get the SD card out to post the pic.
And as Mogster said, the quality of the camera is medicore, to said the best (yet I still enjoy it!).
I'm actually happy this one missed 3DS. It would be mess on the system while it is fun on smartphones...
...At least iOS ones...
Has the Pokémon Company heard of Android?
No 3DS, no download!
@Kirby-life If that actually happens.😕
@RealPoketendoNL Pokemon is always late to Android or skips it.
I'll have to download this. This looks like something I'll end up having TOO much fun with lol
@LegendOfPokemon
It would be about time for a sequel, it's only been 16 years...
@DarthNocturnal "Apple probably likes to think it owns the term "app store""
And round corners. I'd say get the FBI to force them to give up ownreship of "App store" but the FBI doesn't seem to be having much luck w/ them lately.
@TheY I've owned Android tablets for about 4 years, and a couple of Android smartphones, but I've only ever called it the "app store". Don't see myself ever calling it "Google Play Store". Not ever.
Not even if I owned one of these:
@rjejr you could, in every day parlance, say app store to mean any store, in the same way you call all sodas coke or call all facial tissues kleenex.
But, legally, google owns the Play Store, Apple uses the App Store, and no one uses a windows phone.
But, they call it the Microsoft Store.
@NIN10DOXD PHoenix Wright, the Worlds ends with you, and XCOM were all made by different developers for 3DS and PC, which came to apple a year or so later- and Android a year after that.
Finishing the iOS version is always easier.
@russellohh True. Although some companies prioritize Apple Support over Android altogether.
@russellohh
Microsoft Store
The icon in Windows 8 simply says "Store". (Don't feel like turning on my Ausus EEE to see what it's called in Win 10, but @Captain_Gonru owns a Win phone so I'll ask him.)
@NIN10DOXD there are a few reasons for that. The obvious one already mentioned here is fragmentation- there are 14 models of iDevice currently in the market i believe, even counting the S versions and different size browsers. Still, they all run the same two versions of iOS, and those versions are virtually identical- just a few firmware differences. This makes iOS far, far easier to program for in some cases, and slightly easier in others.
The other bit is wealth- yes, 80% of smartie phone users have androids, but Androids run as low as $10 in some areas, and ive gotten a decent quadcore with 32GB memory for $30 brand new. Many people buy cheap phones for their kids, or simply can't afford anything nicer. These people are not spending $100 on coins/stars/energy in mobile games, and are not buying $15 games like world ends with you and xcom- they're buying 99 cent or free flappy or angry birds, and words with friends. On average i beleive, games make 2-3x as much on iPhone as they do for the same number of Android users, and sometimes, its closer to 10x more.
Simply put, as much as flamers want to scream about what is better, its easier to develop for iOS, and you make 3x as much money.
@rjejr its different between windows phone and windows tablet i thinkkk. its annoying. but you can also see
https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+phone+store&espv=2&biw=1108&bih=489&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjw34rvjZPLAhWHGx4KHfQMBskQ_AUICCgD
Well, someone bought into the internet meme mashine ^^
But dont get me wrong, as silly and tacky as it is, its not a bad idea.
Remember this (american) Football game with the meme generator ? That thing is still used.
Its silly, its stupid and it will flood the internet with mostly rude jokes. But its the cheapest way of generating hype and exposure. Now the question is: Why just iOS ?
@russellohh Thanks for the link, I think that certainly seals the deal on your end. I'm guessing all of those are probably Win 10 related?
In perhaps a strange twist of fate, it's "Apps Store" on the Xbox One. I knew if I kept digging long enough I'd find one.
NO ANDROID VERSION, RAAAAAAGE!!!!!
Seriously though, the fun pkmn apps are on iOS. :^/
@Moon Yeah, it does seem silly they don't release it on 3DS, seems like an obvious choice to me.
@wazlon It's a bit like... 'Hey, let's give all the iOS users something free, but the ones on 3DS (the system where we make all our money)... they'll be fine with nothing.' (!)
Kinda =d
@Moon Hopefully 3DS owners will get it eventually, I think that's what happened with Pokemon Shuffle - started off on mobile and then 3DS later. Besides, I've hardly made use of the camera on 3DS.
I don't really take and play with photos but I can imagine some of the things I'll do with this, mainly when texting to my friend who love using photos. Time to use payback... hmm I should use that as my first caption.
@NIN10DOXD Doesn't the article specifically say there are plans for an Android version?
@wazlon I'm almost 100% certain Shuffle was on 3DS months before smart devices. I remember playing it and finishing it on my wife's 3DS then picking it up later just to see how much better it looked in my 7" tablet.
@RealPoketendoNL Droid is coming later according to pokemon.com
and this article...
@rjejr Yeah it does look a lot better on smart devices.
Cool, I'll download it a little later to make great pictures
