Re: UK Retailer GAME Sees Revenue Rise Thanks To Switch, But Profit Is Down Year-On-Year

Mogster

@FragRed Well, maybe that just indicates that perhaps gaming doesn't need a high street presence to be successful. I imagine if there were money in it, more dedicated gaming shops would exist. Despite the efforts of the last ten or so years, games and consoles just don't seem to have cracked the 'mainstream' in a way that makes a solely game-selling shop sustainable.

I think that's probably because gaming as a whole is an expensive hobby. If you're a film enthusiast you buy a Blu Ray in HMV for £15, if you like sports then the cost of the gear in Sports Direct is usually relatively low, if you enjoy beauty products then nice soaps/bath products etc are around the £10 mark in Body Shop etc. But gaming? Nah mate thats £50 in GAME.

Unfortunately there isn't a Grainger Games near me, and CEX is just as trashy as GAME. Perhaps the high street presence deserves to die if no one can make a good run of it...

Re: Feature: Rare's Local Game Shop Faces An Uncertain Future, Like Many Indie Retailers

Mogster

The last time I went into an indie games store was two years ago, in Portslade near Brighton. They sold me a Nintendo 64 controller with a wonky stick (only noticed when I got back home in Essex and no, it definitely wasn't damaged in my bag) and a copy of Shadows of the Empire which didn't work.

Haven't been in an indie games store since and don't intend too. Ebay/Amazon is fine for me as if I feel ripped off by something or an item isn't as advertised getting a refund is usually a simple process and often supported by Ebay/Amazon themselves.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

Mogster

@Yorumi I don't think you understand. At all.

It's not 'singling out video games'. It's added it to a list of things that cause addictive behaviours. No one here is talking about 'obessesive' behaviours with fandoms and the other random crap you listed. Being obsessed with or enjoying something IS NOT THE SAME as being addicted to something.

You also don't understand what a mental disorder is or what this whole discussion is about. Go do some research and then come back.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

Mogster

@Yorumi if there is a tick in your head compelling you to do something then it's a mental disorder. If you just spend a lot of time doing something, and are in control of your time then it's not.

Not a difficult distinction to make. People get addicted to gaming just like they get addicted to alchol and other things. Difference being if you're addicted to alcohol you can actually get help for that. If you're addicted to gaming you cannot.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

The ESA is so full of it.

I myself suffered a gaming addiction a few years back. It was to League of Legends, and lasted about two years. I would play at any given moment, even when I didn't have time, and I would miss social and work commitments to play.

Sometimes I wouldn't even want to play, but there was a twitch in my brain that pretty much forced me to login and I couldn't resist it. I hated the game so much, and didn't even enjoy it, but I couldn't stop myself from playing.

Thankfully I eventually managed to pull myself out and am now enjoying life much more. In hindsight I would definitely class that addiction as a mental health disorder.

The ESA are so full of it. There is literally no downside to classifying some gaming addictions as mental health disorders. If I could have visited my GP for help I'm certain I could have saved the two years of my life I wasted playing that stupid game.

Re: Merchoid Has Your Christmas Covered With These Festive Nintendo Jumpers

Mogster

They've got loads more Nintendo jumpers than the ones shown here. Loads of cheaper ones, too. Why have NL only advertised the most expensive ones? There are some for £27.99 on the website, with better designs too.

Is this article a paid ad, only advertising the more expensive ones? Does the law not stipulate that paid ads should be marked as such? Can't see anything in this article highting that. Perhaps this should be reported? This 'article' leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Just can't understand why, if this wasn't an ad, they wouldn't NLhighlight the cheaper jumpers too? Suspicious...

That said, the Nintendo ones have the worst designs. The Star Wars ones look much better and actually follow traditional Christmas themes, such as a tree.

Re: Fire Emblem Warriors Makes Top 20 UK Chart Debut, But Can't Pass Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mogster

This is nothing to do with it being a 'niche' title. Less real world advertising + low amount of units produced = lower sales. Mario Kart and other topselling Switch titles all received substantial advertising campaigns. FE:W did not.

Still don't have a Switch, but was looking to pick this up on 3DS. Not available from Amazon, only place seems to be Nintendo themselves for £5 extra with a poster I definitly don't want.

Re: EA Won't Entirely Rule Out Star Wars Battlefront II Coming To Switch

Mogster

@carlos82 that's a very one-sided way of looking at the situation. The Switch only launched this year - of course it's going to be selling better than X1 month on month. But the fact that, according to your comment, it's still second behind the PS4 is quite worrying indeed.

I would love to see BF2 on Switch, but I'd be very very suprised if it ever actually happened.

Re: Rumour: Netflix App Ready For Switch, All It Needs Is Nintendo's Go-Ahead

Mogster

@Nintendoforlife I say you hate Nintendo because you're trying to downplay the versatile nature of the Switch. By doing this you're harming the systems reputation and its sales potential. The Switch will have more value if it can do more things.

The Switch is plenty capable of running both games and apps. There is no reason that it shouldn't do so and there is no downside to this. Apart from, of course, that it obviously offends you.

Re: AtGames Confirms Its SEGA Genesis Clone Systems to Roll Out Ahead of SNES Mini

Mogster

@Kalmaro why is the first comment almost always the most stupid comment?

There are loads of classic Sega games on Wii. There are loads of remastered Sega games on 3DS. There are loads of Sega games on Wii U. There are exclusive Sonic games on Wii U. Sonic has been in Smash Bros for the past two games. Sonic and Mario star on several games of the same series.

News about a Sega classic console is very much in the interest of the Nintendo Life readership. If you don't care then why did you open the article and comment? I get you're trying to act smart but you just come off as a huge derp.
