@GrailUK Oh yeah I remember that...I think it was when Xenoblade Chronicles X launched that they also said 'people who want the game know it's coming already' like NoE literally missing the whole POINT of advertising...was such a facepalm moment.
I agree about GX, superior to Wipeout (and not just saying that as a Nintendo fan) and I believe it could outself Wipeout, if they gave it the same marketing push they gave BotW. I'm sure Nintendo would be in a much better state in UK if they actually marketing their games instead of sending them out to die.
@kobashi100 are you kidding me? People have be clamouring for a new Crash game for years, along with the resurgence in popularity for 3D platforming games stemming from things like Yooka-Laylee. Crash trilogy selling well wasn't unpredictable at all. The only people who say 'no one could have predicted' are the studio execs who only care about CoD. Anyone with even a slight interest in the wider industry knew it would be successful.
I don't know why some people are surprised it sucks. Many, many people called this out for useless the second Nintendo announced it, but they got called heretics and haters.
This has always been an awful idea. And now it is an awful service.
Nope. Put enough time into Fates last year, somewhat annoyed at myself for doing so seeing as it was a very undewhelming experience. If this is real, I'm not buying.
I'm sorry but anyone who enjoys the show or thinks it is 'good' has absolutely awful taste. I'm not going to repeat myself from the other post, but this adaptation has terrible animation (try pausing it at any given moment to see for yourself) grating VA and mistimed lip-syncing and badly-written plot that lingers to long on irrelevant scenes.
It's a bad straight-to-VHS show and you should feel bad for liking it.
Surely they appear in the film, as how else Ash to get the gym badges from Pewter and Cerulean? It doesn't make any sense to leave them out, another non-nonsensical move from The Pokemon Company.
Genuinely shocked at everyone saying they enjoy this show. It is absolutely AWFUL. Shoddy, cheap animation, absolutely rubbish voice acting and HORRENDOUSLY bad lip-syncing, poor, dull plot with too much time spent on irrelevant scenes, dodgy writing, dodgy directing. It's like a really bad, straight-to-VHS film from the nineties.
I'm all for people having their own opinions but if you actually like this adaption then you have seriously SERIOUSLY bad taste.
@retribution did you even look at PS4 sales? It's only a little behind Switch, and the console is in what, it's third/fourth year? Sony have absolutely nothing to worry about!
@Action51 that's a silly statement and rather ignorant to boot. There is HUGE demand for this things. My 7yo nephew was the only one out of his friends able to get a NES Mini. They all wanted one. It was the hot product last year.
Stop devaluing the Nintendo brand, you're making it worse for all of us
@LuckyLand hmmm I dunno, personally I think Sonic 2 is the superior game with much improved level design over Sonic 1, as well as 'trimming the fat' by getting rid of the third act.
@subpopz I think that's doing a disservice to those who develop AAA games. Yeah they're pumped out yearly which makes them seem less innovative, but that doesn't mean that's the case.
I'm talking about innovation in gameplay, which is something Nintendo doesn't do. Yeah the Wii remote is an 'innovative' way of interacting with games, but that in of itself doesn't make games more innovative. Is Mario Galaxy a better game for the Wii Remote? Is Zelda? Is Mario Kart? No...because all that Nintendo have done is change the method of interacting, replacing a button press with a waggle, but the in-game result is still the same. That's not innovative at all. It's false innovation because nothing actually changes. It's the same old thing but now your arm gets tired instead.
And that's my point about why I agree with the guy in the article, the Switch isn't 'innovative'. Using your own words, I'd say it's the 'natural advancement' - it's what the Wii U should have been. Wii U 2.0. It's returning to Nintendo's 'bubble of safety', which is portability, which has always been where Nintendo's strengths lie. But yeah, why does it exist indeed...when Nintendo already has a portable which it insists isn't going anywhere...
@ThanosReXXX I can only pass judgement on what is currently available and besides, people were saying exactly the same thing about the Wii U and what did we end up with? Starfox Zero. Probably the only two games which stood out as being technically impressive were Bayonetta 2 and BotW, although those probably would have been possible on PS3/360 given how impressive games like Red Dead were. We'll have to see if anything comes out for Switch, but as for Mario Odyssey, looks great yeah, but I largely believe that is down to the type of game they wanted to produce rather than anything to do with the Switch itself.
@subpopz well that's upto the developer. Many developers focus on making their games more visually emersive, which isn't a bad thing. Also there's a lot more going on behind-the-scenes in games like CoD than people give them credit for.
For example, lets take a Goomba from Mario 3D World (or any other Mario game.) Goomba sees Mario, Goomba runs towards Mario until it's either a) killed or b) Mario moves back out of the Goomba's response range. That's pretty much it. The same goes for other enemies; attack until killed or out of range.
For modern FPS' enemies have a lot more complex systems controlling what they do, such what weapon to attack with, when to take cover, when to reload etc etc. with millions of different scenarios created for how that singular enemy should react in every forseeable (and unforseeable) circumstance, otherwise the game would glitch out. The multiply this for every enemy in a level, plus how they respond to each other and each others actions...there is a LOT going on behind the scenes. Compare this old FPS' such as Goldeneye or Perfect Dark and you can easily see where the power goes.
People wrongly blame third parties for not 'downgrading' the graphics to make games port-able to Switch, or call them lazy, but what you're asking is for developers to completely retool their games on every technical level because the Switch just doesn't have the horsepower to run the background processes, let alone the pretty graphics.
@Luna_110 well what you're talking about is the direction they decided to take the game. That's not down to power, that's to do with Aonuma's vision for the future of the franchise. However more power could have made BotW even better. Better draw distances, more enemies on screen without stuttering, better visual effects, more variety of enemies, different attack patterns, more art assets etc etc.
I kinda agree with him, although saying so is pretty much suicidal around here. The Switch is basically what the Wii U should have been. It's what Nintendo wanted the Wii U to be. The Switch is barely more powerful than the Wii U, and plays pretty much the same games. It's the Wii U 2.0 in all but name.
I believe they should have gone for more power, and improved their games this way. I've been saying this for a while, but boosting system power doesn't ONLY mean better graphics. It can also allow for more complex (not necessarily more difficult) gameplay, improved sound quality and more immersive experiences.
I think this guy is bang on the money. As a Nintendo fan for 20+ years, Nintendo isn't really trying to innovate or improve their games. Look at the Wii. That's an 'innovative' console, but Mario is the same, Zelda is the same, MK is the same, Smash is the same. Aside from the input method, these games haven't innovated at all. Nintendo games are stagnating, and they are stagnating because Nintendo don't allow themselves enough horsepower to push the boundaries of gameplay.
I never understood why Nintendo themselves havn't jumped on this bandwagon. I'd love to buy official crafted imitation controllers to play VC games (when the eventually announce it) with. I really want the retro experience as authentic as possible, but with the conveniences of modern gaming!
@setezerocinco what even...you're basing your broad assumptions off of what, exactly? Worst ever done? You've seen one screenshot and you're saying 'worst ever done'? What are you so butthurt over?
And no, from what we've seen it is definitely NOT a shooter like Splatoon. Looks more like a tactical RPG like FF Tactics or something similiar to Fire Emblem. RPG is a broad genre.
@Agent721 this is a really weird, misplaced comment. The PS4 has been out for years, the Switch only three months. Of course the Switch is 'surging'. The only real comparison will be lifetime hardware/software sales.
PS4 will 'surge' when heavy hitters like KH3 come out, possibly later in the year. And it will continue boosting worldwide with titles like Battlefront 2 and Last of Us 2. To suggest that Switch sales scare Sony is, well, weird.
One of the key things for me, as a grown man, is that it doesn't look like a freakin' Poke Ball. That stopped me picking up the Go Plus. The fact that this also allows auto-catching/spinning makes it seem like the far superior option. Will probably pick it up at some point.
@Mooj738 I have this on PS4, and got bored after about four hours. I didn't play the first Xenoverse, so thought I would be well into this one. Unfortunately not, there are quite a few things that put me off of investing time into it;
Wooden character animations
Slow, jarring gameplay that doesn't flow/look fluid
Poor voice work and awful lip-syncing
Repetitive, annoying soundtrack especially in the hub world (where you will spend a lot of time)
Lack of dramatic/exciting gameplay when using special moves etc. for example, no 'beam struggles' (correct me if I'm wrong on this, but me and my brother tried to initiate one on VS mode several times using Kamehameha's but just couldn't get one)
I pretty much went straight back to playing Budokai Tenkaichi 3, which still has a semi-regular slot in my Wii U, even after what, 10 years? I'm a huge DBZ fan but Xenoverse 2 just didn't live up to the hype for me. Might try it again on Switch, however.
Kinda puts me off of buying it. Why not divert development funding into improving the core gameplay, or extra features (like a two-player mode) or include characters that people actually like, such as Tails and Knuckles.
@Anti-Matter you're thinking of the last model. This is a new version, with added features.
Will probably pick this up. Had been on the fence about the current model, but I'll wait a bit longer for the HD version. I hope they've sorted the sound...
I stopped being excited about Nintendo E3s the year they announced Federation Force, Triforce Heroes and Amiibo Festival instead of, you know, games that people actually want to play.
Not sure I'll tune in this year for the first ever. Not worth taking the time off work.
@Peek-a-boo Chart-Track asked websites not to post lists. I thought this was common knowledge by now? Besides, what was ever so hard about reading and article and clicking a source link?
I don't know what's changed and why they are now posting lists. Maybe Chart-Track gave permission or maybe journalists just don't care anymore.
Given how well Switch games seem to be charting (don't think I've ever seen so many Nintendo titles in the chart at the same time...!) is it safe to say that Switch has outsold Wii U sales in the UK?
Heart-warming stories like this are exactly why I DETEST people who protest against and spout holier-than-thou nonsense about stuff like Auto-Drive, the Invincibility Leaf and Shiekah Stones in Zelda. There's no reason games can't be as accessible as possible while still retaining their appeal for haRDc0re G@mErz. Having options is never a bad thing.
@Ryu_Niiyama 'You can't buy all the products and no company can produce them indefinitely.'
....what?
Stop being an apologist and trying to rationalize this, because what you said makes no sense. I could walk into a store now and buy a PS4. I could walk into a store now and buy a new phone in whatever model I want. I could walk into a store now and buy one of the classic Mega Drive mini consoles. I could walk into a store now and buy pretty much whatever I went in for. Nintendo is the ONLY one who has consistent issues with supply and demand.
As others have pointed out, it is an underhanded business tactic designed to drive up demand. Unfortunately it doesn't work and Nintendo consistently misses out on money. They sold 2.3million, it could have been 5 or 7 million if they hadn't pissed their consumers off and then abruptly canceled a popular product.
If you haven't watched the Jimquisition episode on this I suggest you do so, and then maybe you'll stop your apologist ways. Also, blaming the retailers for scalpers? REALLY??
Having spent some time with 1, 2 Switch, I can confirm it is a trash game and not worthy of anyone's money. It's pathetic compared to Wii Sports, which wasn't even that great anyway.
@Dev That's some flawed logic right there, pal. Just because one press conference was bad doesn't mean they all have to be. They could just have a more lively show and make it less awkward. American press are more excitable anyway, so there wouldn't be the awful crowd silences.
Look how well Sony's pressers go down. There's no reason Nintendo couldn't run one of the same quality aside from the obvious lack of new content and their own ineptitude.
I wouldn't buy CoD on Switch because I think they are dreadful games void of creativity or inspiration, but it's definitely important that it comes to the console.
@Tempestryke I think you're trying to be clever, but I'm afraid it didn't really work out for you this time pal. Switch and SNES Mini aren't in the same market. They aren't competing. Not sure what you're trying to get at. Maybe try and learn some things about the industry before commenting? One is a toy and the other is a modern gaming console. They aren't competing.
This whole situation just reeks of Nintendo incompetence and the lack of faith they have in their own products. I'll give you a tip Nintendo, free of charge; 90% of the people interested in purchasing the NES Mini ARE NOT going to buy a Switch and if they do they ARE NOT going to be buying NES games on it. Most of the casual players I know don't even realize that you even have a digital storefront. They aren't interested. They just want the NES Mini for nostalgia and ease of use. Why won't you sell it to them?!?!
Another protip; those among your hardcore fan are likely to buy BOTH a NES Mini AND a Switch. And what's more, they will also be likely to buy NES games on the Switch even if they have a NES Mini because they've bought them on Wii/U/3DS eShop, so why would they stop now?!
NES Mini has no impact on Switch in any way. They are for different markets and both can coexist. Shame you don't even realize this.
@ThePoochyKid wow, talk about revisionism. Pikmin 4 was "actually very close to completion" as of summer 2015. It's quite obvious to anyone that it was probably originally schedueled as a Wii U release but then bumped back to Switch when Nintendo decided to stop supporting Wii U in late 2015.

Re: Super Mario Run Close To 150 Million Downloads, But Has Earned Less Than Fire Emblem: Heroes
Not sure what people are spending money on in FE. £1.99 for 3 Orbs, which won't even get you one hero? Yuck.
Re: Poll: Do You Think Call Of Duty: WWII Will Come To Switch, And Would You Want It If It Did?
I wouldn't buy CoD on Switch because I think they are dreadful games void of creativity or inspiration, but it's definitely important that it comes to the console.

If the shirt had the actual death stare it'd be cool...
Re: Rumour: SNES Classic Mini Coming Later This Year
@Tempestryke I think you're trying to be clever, but I'm afraid it didn't really work out for you this time pal. Switch and SNES Mini aren't in the same market. They aren't competing. Not sure what you're trying to get at. Maybe try and learn some things about the industry before commenting? One is a toy and the other is a modern gaming console. They aren't competing.
Re: Rumour: SNES Classic Mini Coming Later This Year
@chardir Switch and NES/SNES Mini aren't competing markets dude. No one is buying a Mini instead of a Switch.
Re: UK Retailer Exploits NES Classic Demand By Asking More Than Three Times The Retail Price
Re: Feature: What We Expect From the Nintendo Direct - 12th April
@ThePoochyKid wow, talk about revisionism. Pikmin 4 was "actually very close to completion" as of summer 2015. It's quite obvious to anyone that it was probably originally schedueled as a Wii U release but then bumped back to Switch when Nintendo decided to stop supporting Wii U in late 2015.

Not sure about that title, but looking forward to the film nonetheless!
