@Matbtz Reggie always contradicts himself, and lies, just have a look at some of the other interviews posted here on NL in the past year or so. You cannot trust what he says.
The only thing you can trust is the evidence, which is why I list all the abominations that Nintendo has released over the past couple of years. Most of the games you listed are pretty safe, but Metroid needs to be on a whole different level if they hope to surpass the Metroid Prime trilogy. It needs a BotW size investment, both in time and money. Looking at Nintendo's recent output, I don't think this will be forthcoming.
@Matbtz Why do feel it? What evidence (looking at the past few years - including recently) gives you any reason to suggest a new Metroid is on the way?
Nintendo has proven time and time again that they don't really care about what their fans want. If they did, Federation Force and AC: Amiibo Festival would never have been greenlit. As well as numerous other things...rubbish Kirby Wii U game, rubbish Starfox Wii U game, rubbish Paper Mario Wii U game, rubbish Mario Party Wii U game...I'm not even sure if Nintendo is capable of developing a new Metroid that doesn't suck.
The only saving grace is BotW, which proves that Nintendo can (contrary to all the evidence) actually still do AAA development. I guess we'll see.
I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I hope everyone keeps their expectations in check. There will be no new F-Zero, no new Wave Race, no new Metroid...will most likely just be Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Stars, that Rabbids RPG thing. Nothing new or groundbreaking.
I've been looking forward to Nintendo E3s for the past 15 years and every year is a disappointment. I don't see why this year will be any different.
@NintySnesMan Not...really....sure...what...you're...trying...to...say. Nintendo isn't really doing okay in UK seeing as it only has 8% market share (see NL article I linked in previous comment). Will see if they can change this for Switch.
@TheLZdragon What ACTUAL evidence do you have that it isn't widespread? If you have information that we don't, please share
@idtgatt that's a silly way of looking at things, and rather naive. Nintendo and their retailers have an obligation to sell you the product as advertised. None of the responsibility is yours. Nintendo should have carried out proper testing beforehand. If you have been sold a product that doesn't operate as advertised then you are due a refund or compensation. Like I said in a previous comment, I hope Nintendo is refunded Amazon for doing their job for them.
This is a Nintendo problem, they deserve the bad press for it.
Will probably double dip when I eventually get a Switch, but in the meantime have the PS4 Collector's Edition on pre-order. I'm pretty certain when I pre-ordered it was listed with a 28th March release date, but I'm guessing that was just a placeholder.
@NintySnesMan that's not really an honest interpretation of the figures, though. The only reason Nintendo is the third highest buyer of Nintendo products in Europe (although I'd like to see some official data on this before believing it) is because we have one of the strongest economies in Europe, and also one of the largest populations.
@Grandpa_Pixel events like Comic Con/MCM tend to bring the Nintendo-loving crowd together, so it may seem like a lot of people, but that's only because they're crowded into one place. I would often get hundreds of Streetpass hits when I used to go to London MCM.
You get a real feel for the popularity of Nintendo by looking at the charts and seeing where new releases come in. We don't often get exact figures, but you can paint a bit of a picture from looking at these.
Like you said, Nintendo isn't necessarily unpopular, but they have a very, very small market share here. New releases like Zelda coming in second, which is probably about 50-60 thousand copies. This is a decent, if not overwhelming amount. But then you get games like Federation Force which didn't even chart, probably sold under 1,000 units, which is utterly pathetic.
Our culture is quite varied, and only a certain subset of society really supports Nintendo. They don't appeal to the broader audience anymore. Will see if they can turn this around...
@Bliquid I wasn't even going to bother responding to your worthless comment, but here we are. Have played both games extensively. Overwatch lifts key game modes straight from TF2, also it's focus on classes and class selection, with several classes taken straight from Overwatch and multiple abilities which operate in pretty much the same way.
Overwatch is a more modern adaptation of TF2. if you can't CLEARLY see that then there's no help for you. Don't bother responding, I won't be replying to your trolling again.
Would be interesting to know what specifically would be challenging. Probably wouldn't get it though as I already have it on PS4, plus it's just a Team Fortress 2 ripoff anyways.
Breath of the Wild deserves all the sales it gets. An absolutely stunning game, even on Wii U. I was sitting at home yesterday, wife watching TV, wishing I had a Switch just so I could play it. Then it dawned on me that the Gamepad was a thing. The game still looks great on that rubbish screen, even though there were a few odd moments where the Gamepad screen seemed to be readjusting itself whenever I changed brightness, never witnessed that before.
I do wonder though, where the series goes from here. Maybe NL could do an speculative article about it? I don't really see another BotW style game having the same impact, both critically and among fans. I feel like BotW has hit a peak that they'll never reach again. Makes me worried about what comes next...
@Jeronan that's till very, very low sales, especially considering games typically sell the most in first week. Most of those games didn't even sell more than 5,000 units...
So we know it sold 80,00 in its first week, but does this mean second week sales are going to somewhere around the ballpark of 0? Such much for keeping momentum up...
@Anti-Matter it's funny you're talking to people about pointless comments...when 90% of yours are about how you only like 'cute' games and hate Sony.
No reason for Reggie to be so coy, here. They've had enough negative headlines over the past week, they really should be trying to generate some positive ones.
The lengths that Nintendo go to to shut down people celebrating their games and characters is bordering on ridiculous. I've never heard a single person EVER refer to Mario Kart as 'Maricar'. Good on the PO for chucking it out. Hopefully this second claims gets chucked out too, as I'm pretty certain that dressing up as characters falls under 'parody' or 'fair use'.
@markie7235 not really. To particpate in these kind of activites you usually have to sign something extreme saying you understand the risk of death etc etc and the company is not responsible. Not sure if they hold and water in court, of course, but I had to sign one when I went to a unofficial Halo-themed paintballing event for a stag do.
@sillygostly I always thought a Wario/Waluigi 2D platformer where you could switch between the two would have gone down quite nicely on 3DS, maybe as an eShop game. I also think adding Waluigi would have freshened the series up a bit, if that's what they were worried about, and would also have given Waluigi his first game!!
@Kirgo go buy any smartphone/tablet/game console. Go on, I'll wait.

Done yet? Turned it on? Do you have access to, or the ability to download, Netflix? Yes, you do? Great. So you agree it is, in fact, a basic feature? Which is why every device has it? Fantastic. Why can't Switch have a basic feature at launch? Got a reason or you just going to spew more fabricated statistics again?
It's an important feature because it's a basic feature, as you yourself have proved by stating that everyone has multiple devices that have it. Why would I take my Switch out with me if it lacks basic features? I don't want to carry an extra tablet with me just because Nintendo can't be bothered, I'll just leave the Switch at home or not even bother buying one.
@Kirgo Could you please provide a source for those figures which you just pulled out of your bottom? I don't know what you're talking about at all, I live in the UK and I care about Netflix. most of Western society does. Your statements are baseless and irrelevant with NOTHING to support them. Come back with some evidence that people who play Nintendo consoles don't care about Netflix and then perhaps I'll listen too you. But you won't be able to and, thus, this is concluded.
@Gerbwmu There would be zero trade off. Nintendo does develop the app, Netflix etc would. All Nintendo need to do is provide the tools for them to do this. It's a win-win situation.
@Pod 'We are not majority of owners in here' exactly. The majority of consumers want all-in-one devices. It helps people justify their purchases. There is no downside to having extra features, why do people find that so hard to understand?
@BinaryFragger exactly. If don't want to carry phone, Switch and extra tablet with me. In an ideal world it would also have bluetooth keyboard functionality but hey oh.
@Pod nope...still missing the point. Again, we wouldn't be having this conversation if Switch had Netflix. We would be focusing on the games. I don't really understand why you keep saying early adopters should only have to focus on games. Doesn't really make any sense. Let people use the console how they want ffs, more options is NEVER a bad thing.
@Kirgo not my fault there are issue with the Switch. I'm afraid the blame for that relies solely on Nintendo's shoulders. There are already plenty of things to complain about, having basic multimedia functionality would cross one of those things off of the list.
@DoctorOverbuild exactly. Shame most people don't see that.
'world-class gaming device' HA well done Reggie, never fails to make me laugh. I know he is a PR man, but everything he says is cringeworthy.
You say you're talking to Netflix, Amazon etc. - why wasn't this done PRIOR to launch, so the system could have launched with said apps, just like every other device for the past five-ten years?
@BLP_Software of course we all have multiple devices for web browsing. When I am using my phone I use the browser on that. When I am on my PC I use the browser on that. While I am using my tablet I use the browser on that. While I am on my Wii U I use the browser on that. It's about convenience and not having to carry multiple devices to achieve BASIC functionality.
Yes, Sony went 'games first' but the PS4 did actually have all the multimedia apps at launch. The reason they could talk about games is because all the basic functionality was already accounted for. We wouldn't even be having these discussions about Netflix on Switch if we already had Netflix on Switch.
Nintendo, through their own incompetence, have drawn the discussion away from games. Unless this was their intention of course, given the lack of software. You decide.
This article is all kinds of stupid. It's also incredibly dismissive and glaringly condescending about major issues.
The lack of Netflix/browser isn't 'just' and issue for those who don't have other devices, it's an issue for EVERYONE as you're paying a premium price for a product that is MISSING basic industry features.
The left joy-con issues are not 'fair-ish'. It is on-par with the RROD and yellow-light problems of past systems. If Nintendo is selling a console that doesn't work as advertised, not only is it illegal but it's also a HUGE issue that they need to adress (just like MS and Sony did) rather than suggesting that consumers chuck away their fish tank and turn off all other devices.
The dead-pixel problem is also a huge issue and if you have one and it's affecting your enjoyment of the console you are entitled to a refund/repair/replacement. Make sure you push this; consumer law is on your side and for NL and certain commentors to dismiss this is naive.
I know this is a Nintendo fan-site and I'm a Nintendo fan too, but some of the misteps Nintendo has made are just gross, especially after the excellent initial reveal. People need to be more objective and demand more for your hard-earned cash.
This has been obvious from the moment the first issue occurred. How on earth was a software update EVER going to magically make the connection stronger? Shame on sites like NL for peddling the 'patch' myth, also shame on you for only ranking this damning flaw as 'fair-ish' in your silly article.
I used to think this site was objective, but the past week has shown its true colours as a fanboy dishrag.
'And all this in March – traditionally a quiet time for the games industry.'
slow claps
I don't know why they include this line like it makes them look big and clever. All it does is make it plainly obvious how stupid Nintendo are for not releasing in the festive period.
Pretty reasonable fingers. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain it throughout the year. I'm guessing not, if perhaps solely due to stock shortages...
@yomanation 'how it's always been' sorry to sound rude but is Switch your first console? Previous Nintendo consoles like GC allowed you to move your data as you please.
@Waluigifan if your Switch is on fire you should dunk it in your aquarium...oh wait never mind we got rid of the aquarium because it messes with the left joy con xD
We don't know whether Switch had a successful launch or not; the only 'hard' data we have is Switch supposedly selling 80k in the UK, which isn't that great to be honest. Hopefully it sold better in other regions, but I'm guessing we'll only find that out in the coming days/weeks.
@Mahe Not too sure about that, WW got a lot of hate on it's initial reveal (from myself included) and I don't think it really died down til after launch, although I guess the figures say otherwise.
TP had fans raving right from it's initial reveal (remembering THAT trailer) so I've very surprised by WW selling stronger at the start. I believe TP overtook it eventually, though.
@Peach64 People tend to attribute the Wii's success to Wii Sports alone, but that's not true. The system initially appealed to both casual and hardcore players, Twilight Princess was the other pillar that propped up the system at launch. The hype around that game was insane, from it's initial reveal right through to launch.
What surprises me more is that WW takes the top spot...
While second sounds impressive, it doesn't really mean much without solid figures. It's also disappointing that Nintendo's flagship game couldn't make number one. Zelda is one of their most popular and successful franchises, so sales will only be downhill from here on out.
@LeRaposa it's because the Switch isn't much more powerful than Wii U. This is obvious from looking at the current games. No reason Splatoon 2 and Odyssey couldn't be on Wii U, other than to push their new system ofc.
@Menchi187 Jeez, someone's been drinking a little too much of the Donald Trumpalump kool-aid.
Looking forward to getting home after work tonight and ripping it open. Got a pile of Haribo and Coke Zero to keep me awake throughout the night (although knowing me I'll probably crash at midnight lol)
@GrayFox-Bez funny, because I've only ever had negative experiences in Game.
Last time I went to a store was two years ago when I brought my PS4. Found an nice bundle online, said was available in-store, called local store to check, then went to said store.
Arrive; join the massive queue. Waiting for twenty minutes, get to front. 'I'd like the Battlefront PS4 bundle that also comes with last of Us and Dying Light please'. Sorry mate we don't do that bundle here. I point to the big, electronic display that shows the bundle. 'Oh that's just a generic screen that every store displays. If you like I can do you a PS4 with these other games and a preowned copy of Last of Us for only £10 extra'. Told them I had called and spoken to someone at the store who had confirmed they did the bundle here. Manager came out, asks staff who's causing problems. 'I'm not causing problems I just want to purchase the bundle that you have advertised and your staff told me you sold' etc etc.
Anyways, after about thirty minutes of back and forth turns out they do sell the advertised bundle but they had actually sold out. Still offering me the same bundle but with pre-owned games for £10 more. No chance, leave shop and go and give my money to Amazon instead.
I was going to report them to trading standards and BBC Watchdogs as I had taken photographic evidence of their advertising displays but in the end I couldn't be bothered. All their stores and staff are horrible, trying to rip you off and mislead you everytime. Never again.
Why do people order still buy things through Game? Something like this happens every damn time. Stop it, people, and let them go bust as soon as possible.
Someone mentioned this might be because of the moronic £999 price tag they initially implemented. There was absolutely no reason for them to do that in the first place. Stupid, abhorrent company.
@KiWiiU_Freek That's a very impressive collection! Unfortunately I was only eight/nine years old when I first received my N64, and I didn't care about seemingly trivial things such as game boxes and instruction manuals. How annoyed am I at myself now! I've been trying to re-buy boxed games, but it's turning into an expensive hobby, especially given how flimsy cardboard boxes were.
If you couldn't tell, I'm very envious of your perfectly kept collection!
@Alshain01 to be fair, though, the initial reveal and the first artwork of Link did look like trash. I remember seeing it in one of the gaming mags of the time and literally stabbing through Link's eye with a pencil. It was so, so disappointing compared to what we saw in the Space World tech demo.
Nintendo kinda did the same thing, with that super realistic Wii U Zelda tech demo and now BotW looking completely different to that.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Promises "A Big E3" For Nintendo This Year
@Matbtz Reggie always contradicts himself, and lies, just have a look at some of the other interviews posted here on NL in the past year or so.

I know this is a Nintendo fan-site and I'm a Nintendo fan too, but some of the misteps Nintendo has made are just gross, especially after the excellent initial reveal. People need to be more objective and demand more for your hard-earned cash.
Re: Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con Disconnection Woes Could Be Hardware-Related
This has been obvious from the moment the first issue occurred. How on earth was a software update EVER going to magically make the connection stronger? Shame on sites like NL for peddling the 'patch' myth, also shame on you for only ranking this damning flaw as 'fair-ish' in your silly article.
I used to think this site was objective, but the past week has shown its true colours as a fanboy dishrag.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Pits Nintendo Switch vs. PS4 in Dragon Quest Heroes II Comparison
And to think, there was someone in here the other day saying Switch was near X1 levels. No where near even that.
Re: Nintendo Switch Was the Company's Biggest Selling European Hardware Launch, Ever
'And all this in March – traditionally a quiet time for the games industry.'
slow claps
I don't know why they include this line like it makes them look big and clever. All it does is make it plainly obvious how stupid Nintendo are for not releasing in the festive period.
Re: Gallery: Behold This Amazing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Cosplay
Seems pretty accurate! I've played BotW for like 14 hours and still have encountered Zelda at all lol. That includes a raid on Hyrule Castle!
Re: Nintendo Switch Reportedly Sells 313,700 Units in Japan Across Launch Weekend
Let's see if they can be sustained!
Re: Opening Sales for Nintendo Switch in North America Set a New High
Pretty reasonable fingers. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain it throughout the year. I'm guessing not, if perhaps solely due to stock shortages...
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred
@yomanation 'how it's always been' sorry to sound rude but is Switch your first console? Previous Nintendo consoles like GC allowed you to move your data as you please.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred
Wow. Even on the PS1 you had the flexibility of memory cards. Why has Nintendo got to be so backwards...
Re: Nintendo Switch With Dead Pixels? It's Not A Defect, Claims Nintendo
@Waluigifan if your Switch is on fire you should dunk it in your aquarium...oh wait never mind we got rid of the aquarium because it messes with the left joy con xD
Re: Some People Are Doing Naughty Things In Fire Emblem Heroes
I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that every man and his dog seems to have a ton of 5-star characters, except me who only has two.
Find it strange they'd announce it in this way, rather than just dropping the banhammer.
Re: Nintendo's Share Value Shows Positive Momentum Following Successful Switch Launch
We don't know whether Switch had a successful launch or not; the only 'hard' data we have is Switch supposedly selling 80k in the UK, which isn't that great to be honest. Hopefully it sold better in other regions, but I'm guessing we'll only find that out in the coming days/weeks.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Makes UK Debut in Second, Three Top 10 Switch Titles in Total
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Makes UK Debut in Second, Three Top 10 Switch Titles in Total
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Makes UK Debut in Second, Three Top 10 Switch Titles in Total
While second sounds impressive, it doesn't really mean much without solid figures. It's also disappointing that Nintendo's flagship game couldn't make number one. Zelda is one of their most popular and successful franchises, so sales will only be downhill from here on out.
Re: Nintendo Switch With Dead Pixels? It's Not A Defect, Claims Nintendo
Funny how they've changed their tune. A few years back my 3DS developed a few dead pixels, sent it in to Nintendo and they fixed it for me.
I don't really like what Nintendo is turning into.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch vs. Wii U
@DanteSolablood you're going to have to link to those buddy, because I follow multiple gaming sites and haven't seen a single one comparing it to X1.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch vs. Wii U
@LeRaposa it's because the Switch isn't much more powerful than Wii U. This is obvious from looking at the current games. No reason Splatoon 2 and Odyssey couldn't be on Wii U, other than to push their new system ofc.
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is Officially One Of The Best Games Of All Time
@Menchi187 Jeez, someone's been drinking a little too much of the Donald Trumpalump kool-aid.
Looking forward to getting home after work tonight and ripping it open. Got a pile of Haribo and Coke Zero to keep me awake throughout the night (although knowing me I'll probably crash at midnight lol)
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild GDC Presentation Shows Off Dev Process and Bizarre Early Concepts
I legit would play the hell out of a Zelda game where aliens attack. Make it a MM sequel
Re: UK Retailer GAME Is Cancelling Nintendo Switch Preorders Days Before Launch
Re: UK Retailer GAME Is Cancelling Nintendo Switch Preorders Days Before Launch
Why do people order still buy things through Game? Something like this happens every damn time. Stop it, people, and let them go bust as soon as possible.
Someone mentioned this might be because of the moronic £999 price tag they initially implemented. There was absolutely no reason for them to do that in the first place. Stupid, abhorrent company.
Re: The Nintendo 64 Is 20 Years Old Today In Europe And Australia
@KiWiiU_Freek That's a very impressive collection! Unfortunately I was only eight/nine years old when I first received my N64, and I didn't care about seemingly trivial things such as game boxes and instruction manuals. How annoyed am I at myself now! I've been trying to re-buy boxed games, but it's turning into an expensive hobby, especially given how flimsy cardboard boxes were.
If you couldn't tell, I'm very envious of your perfectly kept collection!
Re: Overcooked! Special Edition Announced for Nintendo Switch
Love this on Ps4, so will definitely pick it up on Switch when I get one later in the year.
Re: Feature: A Chat About Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Evolution of the Franchise
