Nintendo Announces Separate Hyrule Warriors Season Passes for Wii U and 3DS

How do I get this pass?

I'm hoping the Toon Link weapon is the Skull Hammer. I'll be picking up the 3DS/Wii U pass.

Interesting setup, and a great way for Nintendo to create success for the portable version. I could see Hyrule Warriors fans getting pretty amped up for this!

I haven't even played the Wii U version yet tho. That would be step one...

I guess it's good that all content will be available on the Wii U as well, but it sure seems expensive if the DLC out already is counted for that version. I don't have the Wii U version so my Legends code is going to a friend.

Seeming as I only own a 3DS and not a Wii U, I'm content with the pricing of the the season pack. One thing that does confuse me is how to get Toon Ganondorf costume. Is it when you buy the season pass?

Links Awakening Set- Marin
PH/ST- Linebeck (or Alphonse...or a Phantom thing from ST..I dunno. Oh! what about a train? Sounds silly but this IS Hyrule Warriors and all canon and logic is out the window)
ALBW- Ravio and Yuga

That, of course, could infer it's bad news for Groose fans. Personally, I've (semi-jokingly) wanted Zill from Wind Waker because that'd something. Anyway, I'm pretty content with this, well, content...

This Season Pass has actually peaked my interest. I love how Legends DLC is all based around the handheld Zelda games!

I really wanted to play as Linkle and as The King, but was not very interested in buying the 3DS edition, so I am very happy to hear about this. The character pack for Wii U and then I will decide on the season pass later.

@martynstuff They will likely do what they did for the preorder costumes for the wiiu version...wait a few months and sell the costume for a dollar.

Not sure I can be bothered to go back to Hyrule Warriors now, might trade in as I've spent far too long running around the same old environments now - time to move on I think.

@Tsurii Oh yes, my mistake! I thought the Windwaker etc was already out for Wii U, thought it was only the fairy character that was exclusive to 3DS. That's really not so good then.

@ThomasBW84 The FAQ says differently regarding Toon Link and Linkle. You get those 2 characters with the respective packs if you don't get them via the code or character pack, just that you won't be able to use the original weapons for that character (Sword for Toon Link and Crossbows for Linkle).

@Tsurii I've been thinking about why there isn't the adventure maps. I feel that it could be to do with 2 exclusive areas (the 2 Wind Waker maps) and an issue regarding collectables. Lets say for example there's levels in the new DLC Adventure mode maps which are limited to Tingle, Young Link and Twili Midna then that would mean you'd have to buy the other Wii U season pass to be able to play the new season pass content.

I'm going to predict that the new playable characters will be Marin (Because why not)From Links Awakening, Byrne from Spirit Tracks (If they add Linebeck instead somebody is going to get shanked), then finally Ravio and Yuga from ALBW.

Wait a minute. I should of read the article too. I am not buying this high way robbery. I like the game and all, but I have to many other games to spend my money on right now.

So just characters and weapons for Wii U? No Fairy mode, Wind Waker campaign(!) or Adventure Maps? Hate to be a negative nancy but I don't think I'll buy unless Wii U gets the same things as 3DS.

Even if you get the game on 3DS and use the code for Wii U, you'll still only get the characters. I think? I really don't know.

Nintendo and Koei ruined a perfectly good thing that was the previous DLC offerings. It was fairly priced and simple to understand. After they started on HW Legends, it became a confusing mess.

And you should also just stay away from the regular 3DS version of the game, because it's apparently pretty bad. On New 3DS it's actually playable! lol

@whodatninja I've got two n3ds systems so I'm good on that front. I just don't want to have to start from scratch...that game is way too long (I have the original season pass) to have to do that.

If they did some sort of save transfer like with monster hunter 3U (yeah I know different devs but still) then I would be more inclined to buy the 3ds version. Would be nice to play at work. Until they announce that I'm fine with just WiiU. I have a huge backlog as is.

So the Wii U season pass is just the Hyrule Warriors Legends season pass for the Wii U version, so the Wii U version will have two season passes?

Its great to see they make these characters available to the WiiU version without having to purchase the 3DS game.
And the pricing of the combo pass is super fair imo, especially if you consider the massive amounts of content these adventure maps alone provide.

I fell like this pack was made to troll me... content from my two least favorite zelda games (link's awakening/spirit tracks), and still no content from my favorite zeldas (ages/seasons)

That's annoying. Don't get me wrong. Looks like a great deal, particularly if you're buying for both systems. But I don't want the 3DS game at all. Even on the New 3DS, I was incredibly unimpressed with how it played.

It's nice that they're offering some content from the 3DS on the Wii U (I think we forget, these are separate games on two separate systems - getting 3DS content into the Wii U game is not a simple cut-and-paste), but I don't know if it's enough to get me back into that game, and I am definitely hesitant to throw another $11.99 + $16.99 at it.

Well this certainly is... Confusing. :/
But new characters for my Wii U is awesome, as I have no intention at all to get the 3DS game and playing all through 100+ hours of the same content again, only on a smaller screen with inferior performance, controls and graphics.

How are you guys gonna review this exactly? From what I hear, the original 3DS version is hideous but the New 3DS version is fine. 2 different reviews?

Just the Wii season pass for me. This is a game I'm dipping in and out of, and can't see myself wanting to buy a second time. It's decent with a lot of stuff for Zelda fans, but not great.

I played HW on Wii U a lot, it was my favorite Wii U game (and Zelda game) at the time, before Spaltoon and XCX, but I can't imagine going back to it for just a few new characters. Time to move on. And play Lego Marvel Avengers and all of it's DLC characters. I'm really beginning to miss finished product games.

@KodyDawg The code that comes with Legends is literally the character pack so yeah the extra stories and DLC adventure maps for Legends are 3DS exclusive.

I'll still pick up Legends. I like the idea of being able to beat the living crap out of hundreds of weaker creatures on the go, I'm intrigued by the new mechanics added to the gameplay, and I have a New 3DS, so the game will actually play well.
So, unless I counted wrong, that's five new unannounced characters... five chances for the devs to make the right decision and let The Groose loose...

Even with the Wii u season pass and the 3DS code it's not worth it for the Wii U. Sorry only new characters and weapons for them wont do it, I want more maps than the usual maps I already got on Wii U, and for those who already got everything done on Wii U it will be plain boring to just level up the new characters at max level with no new content.

It seems the definitive version is now the 3DS version who has everything the Wii U has + more. Too bad it's only playable on New 3DS since the 3DS is struggling just to play it properly.

@MarinoKadame They really should consider pulling the normal 3DS release. Most people are going to get it on there, and that probably won't go over well.

Everyone here as outlined the reasons why well enough, but let's just hope they make the maps and story missions available eventually after realizing how many Wii U owners they piss off! Ridiculous..

correct me if I am wrong but wasnt the 3ds version meant to come out with all available dlc? Luckily I am not into that game at all, neither wii u nor 3ds - played the 3ds demo recently and it confirmed me in my assessment that this game is kind of shallow

I hyped for this on 3ds, the SP seems fair for the price too.

@Andrzej777 The 3DS come with all the Wii U stuff by default that means all the season pass Wii u got prior to Legends, except maybe a mode and challenge that's it.

In the end the Wii U get shafted since it only get new characters with weapons but no new maps to play them with so those who already did 100% of Hyrule Warriors on Wii U will need to grind the new characters in the old maps.

The lack of additional maps for Wii U is a bit pants, but I'm glad to see the characters from 3DS version making it at least.

I've yet to replay using all the characters I have now, but I've got such a backlog, replaying Legends hasn't been high on my list. By this summer with the new content I may have to pick it up again!

So Wii U owners can get the characters and weapons. But that's it?! And for a ridiculously inflated price. Screw you, Nintendo.

Ugh, I´m so tired fighting in the same levels. Not even interested about the 3DS version, it has just one new level right? Well that's not enough to hold my interest for this incredibly repetitive game.

Awesome. I'm still playing the heck out of Hw wiiu, and I'm happy they didn't abandon it for the 3ds. I'll probably not buy the 3ds characters for wiiu though.. I'm pretty sure I'll find hw: legend, used, dirt cheap later.

But what I'd really want more than new characters, is new maps to play on (not adventure world maps). There's too few of them after a while.

@Luffymcduck the 3ds version comes with two new maps (the islands of the great sea and the temples of the sages), and some of the maps have new versions based on different times of the day.

Well, glad they gave Wii U owners an option. The $12.99 is still cheaper by far for me over $199.99 for a N3DS plus another $39.99 for the game.

Glad to see traditional logic take precedence over the coined 'Nintendo logic'. Will be getting the DLC. The 3DS variant is by far the inferior version. It would be a ridiculous move on Nintendo's part to continue developing exclusively on that platform.

Personally I dont really like DLC - somewhat miss the days when you bought a complete game right at the beginning without the possibility of some quick cash-ins by publishers. At first I thought Nintendo would be different, releasing meaningful DLC like new tracks for mario kart 8 but they have quickly expanded. Fire Emblem Fates for example, releasing basically three version of one and the same game - ok, all of them seem to be meaningful and very substantial, I even really like that approach BUT then there is additional dlc coming up. I probably wont buy any of those, or maybe I will... and thats the problem. But maybe I am already too old for those kinds of business models,

I already traded-in my copy of Hyrule Warriors for Wii U. I will use the credit for the upcoming Wind Waker HD (Nintendo Selects) or the current Twilight Princess HD. Either of those has way more real contents. Hyrule Warriors actually has a lot less story contents compare to most Dynasty Warrior and Samurai Warrior games. It's fun for a month or so but really gets repetitive. I'd rather have a real Zelda for story or even a real DW or SW that have at least more scenarios to play with. More characters without associated story contents won't help. And I would not buy 3DS because I have my phone and tablets that act as hand-held gaming devices. I have the entire Final Fantasy series on those and some more.

It's hilarious how normally I'd be like "boring" cause it's been so long since I did the main part of the game, but I've been wanting to play this again. But the season pass stuff is confusing I'll have to study this.

What's there to be excited about for the Wii U version, seriously? Once you've done everything to do in Hyrule Warriors, this game is boring as heck. What are you going to do, adventure maps over and over again? Sure I enjoyed this game while trying to get gold medals on every stage and unlock everything there was to unlock, but what then? This game has no online mode whatsoever and near 0 replayability.

I get that people may want to get the 3DS version IF they don't have the Wii U version. But what incentive is there for those that have the better version? Still no online mode, can't transfer maps from 3DS to Wii U, and as others have mentioned, can't transfer save data. Getting some Lv1 characters on Wii U after you're done with it seems very counter productive.

tl;dr- If you have Wii U version, buying the watered down 3DS version seems like the biggest waste of money since Pokemon Battle Revolution.

This is very confusing. I had to reread it a couple of times.

I guess the 3DS version will be best for me since I have A New 3DS and Wii U, and I MIGHT be interested in the DLC content. Someone correct me if I'm missing something that would make the Wii U version a better choice for me.

@crimsontadpoles really, the only reason to buy the wiiu game instead of the 3DS one is "it looks prettier".

And maybe the previous dlc that lets you play as ganon or a giant chicken, the 3DS won't get that mode.

Other than that, the 3ds looks set to be the definitive version of the game, with more content, better gameplay and portability.

It's good to see I won't have to buy a garbage version of the game to get the new characters but they really should have included the new maps on the Wii U.

Maybe since it's even worse on the old 3DS they are doing this to increase sales, it's sad but makes. Hopefully it tanks on 3DS and they decide to sell all the content on the Wii U version to make some profit off the work that went into the 3DS game.

Also, if there were a cross-buy discount I would totally grab this in a heartbeat. If I could get the 3DS version for say, half off when I owned the Wii U it would be far more tempting, partially because it would feel like I was getting some sort of deal even though I was essentially just buying a game twice.

With a lack of content after Star Fox, I'll probably pickup the Wii U and 3DS pack. Interesting pricing though, based on this it looks like the US version will likely cost $16.99 for everything.

$19.99 3DS + Wii U season pass for me. Buying as soon as it goes live, and I already have the main game pre-loaded. Should be fun! 😄

@rjejr Very happy that it is playing out like hoped for: The characters are coming to the Wii U. Really want the campaign and adventure map for Wii U, though. Would pay more for it and it'd bring me back for another fun run through the game. I think it has been long enough.

I might be with you on this, though. Too many other games competing for attention and too little time. Why go back, right? I just want to smash some bad guys with the big red boat and try out Linkle's crossbows.

This is a tough choice for me. I have been waiting to get hyrule warriors until all the new characters would be available. But at the same time a new 3ds xl would allow me to play GBA Zelda games. How much difference is the performance of warriors 3ds vs Wii u?

I'm loving the DLC packs of portable games, they're often under-appreciated. So I'm guessing the characters are Marin, Linebeck, Ravio & Yuga? I was really hoping for Ravio, actually! Anyway, 100% picking this up, Hyrule Warriors is one of the best games I've ever played.

Gonna get the Wii U stuff only, as the demo of Legends did not run particularly well on my old 3DS, haha.
So, the new characters and weapons are intriguing. My guess for the first pack is either Marin or the Wind Fish. The second could be Linebeck or Byrne/Staven from Spirit Tracks... and I'd love it if the Toon Link weapon was Spirit Zelda possessing a Phantom and Link commanding it, just like in the game. The third pack's characters could be any two of Ravio, Yuga, or Hilda.
...Or Nintendo could be Nintendo and pull something completely unexpected out of nowhere, haha.

@FTPinkRabbit At least here in Europe, there is a demo of Hyrule Warriors Legends on the eShop, so I would be very surprised if there was no demo of the game at wherever you live.

It's really not all that convoluted.

Let me explain: The Maps are only for the 3DS Version, but the Wii U Version gets the characters, and ONLY the characters and weapons. Buying the 3DS Version lets you get Early Access to the Legends Characters, and you don't get any of the Legends Extras, like My Fairy, Linkle's Tale, Wind Waker section of the story, or the gameplay bonuses like swapping characters, warping with the Gold Ocarina and the Owl Statues, OR the new stages like the Great Sea, and Earth & Wind Temples. And you can't fight Phantom Ganon in Hyrule Warriors for Wii U. If you want these extras on the Wii U, either hack the Wii U Version, OR wait until the Ultimate Edition comes out for Nintendo NX! I'll be happy with my 3DS Edition, thank you very much.

@CapricornDavid I'm thinking potentially the lack of a demo for NA is due to the normal 3DS performance. If you look at the advertising for Legends in the US, it always says "Best enjoyed on New Nintendo 3DS XL" near the end. Well while that's true, it's a serious understatement. You'd expect that kind of comment to mean a Smash 3DS or Majora's Mask 3D improvement between the normal and New 3DS consoles.

I see it differently! For a start, if you buy the 3DS version you have all the previous dlc for free. You have Linkle, Skull kid, Daphnes, Tetra, Toon link and Phantom ganon for free. And Linkle and Windwaker story-missions. And new features. Pay 15 Euro on top of that and you also have even more characters, maps and weapons.

Wii u version on the other hand: 15 Euro for the characters mentioned above, but without Phantom ganon. And then another 10 Euro for the other characters and some weapons. No maps, no my fairy mode.

In my opinion you pay more for less!

@Grumblevolcano I suppose that is a good enough reason, but I still don't see why NoA would just not have any form of the demo at all. It shouldn't be too hard to make the demo only available for New 3DS users.

@FTPinkRabbit I played the demo on my old 3DS and... it's not very good technically. And I am a pretty lenient guy when it comes to enemy pop-in and even framerate. Of course, it still has the great gameplay of Hyrule Warriors, but the technical issues make me worry about how you are supposed to do some of the later more difficult missions.

The WiiU version had its run, this new dlc for it is just some extra fooder. It's easy money, easy money people want to spend.

Now, making the 3ds game an exact clone of the original in terms of content and offer it all as paid dlc all over again, that would've been some shady business.

@aaronsullivan I'm now over 160 hours into XCX, and I want to be done, but those sneaky SOB programmers have coded in about half a dozen open ended mysteries I feel compelled to solve. But I don't even know if they do end. Finally mad it to level 60 last night - maxd out - but I Thought there were higher level skells but there weren't. Might be time to move on, I really want to play Bayonetta 2, which means replaying B1 first. And the Mets start in 2 weeks, then that's 3 hours most nights for 6-7 months. Being a baseball fan is a full time job.

Now my head hurts...

yeah, screw them for actually releasing new content for this 2 year old game at all! i don't want o buy new games for new content. nobody expect this from their costumers exept Nintendo. screw them!

@CapricornDavid Yeah, I remember when I first heard about the 3DS version thinking it seemed like a bit of a step backwards. I mean, Sm4sh came out on 3DS first for a reason; it left the dominant version to come out last so the fans wouldn't have lost hype.

The 3DS version will naturally be the inferior in a game where spectacle plays such a huge role. That's why it feels weird trying to get hyped to play Hyrule Warriors on the go (a game which requires you to kind of sit down anyways) when I can fire up my Wii U right now and get a generally stronger experience.

But yeah, if those things appeal to you, you probably should try the 3DS version. Maybe see if a friend gets the game, and you can ask if you can try it on your own 3DS.
