With Hyrule Warriors Legends around the corner we knew there'd be a season pass and plenty of download content as Nintendo looks to recreate the success of its predecessor. What's a little unexpected is that the Wii U original will also have a version of the same season pass but with a separate (and more limited) batch of content.

The reasoning for this is simple - on 3DS the DLC includes Adventure Maps and content that uses the My Fairy mode, whereas on Wii U the packs only include characters and weapons.

Let's start by breaking down the platforms independently.

3DS

A 3DS-only season pass costs £13.49 / €14.99 in Europe.

Late spring 2016: Master Wind Waker Pack (DLC Pack 1) - £1.79 / €1,99 solo

  • 16 new My Fairy costume pieces
  • The "Master" Wind Waker map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle scenario

Summer 2016: Link's Awakening Pack (DLC Pack 2) - £6.29 / €6,99 solo

  • 16 new My Fairy costume pieces
  • A new map for Adventure Mode with two new challenge battle scenarios
  • A new playable character
  • A new weapon for Linkle

Autumn 2016: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack (DLC Pack 3) - £6.29 / €6,99 solo

  • 15 new My Fairy costume pieces
  • A new map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle and two new challenge battle scenarios
  • A new playable character
  • A new weapon for Toon Link

Winter 2016: A Link Between Worlds Pack (DLC Pack 4) - £6.29 / €6,99 solo

  • 15 new My Fairy Costumes
  • A new map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle and two new challenge battle scenarios
  • Two new playable characters

Wii U

A Wii U-only season pass costs £8.99 / €9,99 in Europe.

Summer 2016: Link's Awakening Pack (DLC Pack 2) - £4.49 / €4,99 solo

  • A new playable character
  • A new weapon for Linkle

Autumn 2016: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack (DLC Pack 3) - £4.49 / €4,99 solo

  • A new playable character
  • A new weapon for Toon Link

Winter 2016: A Link Between Worlds Pack (DLC Pack 4) - £4.49 / €4,99 solo

  • Two new playable characters

You'll notice that there are weapons for Toon Link and Linkle in Wii U packs 2 and 3 (Wii U doesn't get DLC pack 1). These can only be used if you've transferred the characters with Hyrule Warriors Legends on 3DS, or bought the following. You can get the characters without all the weapon options with the DLC Packs alone, however.

Summer 2016: The Legends Character Pack - £10.79 / €11.99 and not in the Season Pass.

  • Includes Linkle, Skull Kid, Tetra, Toon Link, King Daphnes and Ganondorf's trident weapon.

Wii U and 3DS

All of the above in the Legends of Hyrule Pack Season Pass (minus Wii U-only Legends Character Pack) - £15.29 / €16,99 (a saving on the £26.06 / €28,96 it'd cost to buy all packs separately).

The obvious focus here is that Nintendo really wants those with the Wii U original to go out and buy the 3DS version due to the extra value in the season pass and the rather high price of the 'Legends Character Pack', which contains the same characters you can transfer to Wii U for free when you have the portable iteration. £15.29 / €16,99 for a Wii U + 3DS season pass is also a pretty solid discount over buying packs separately. It's a pretty messy setup, though, highlighted by the fact the official page has an FAQ section of its own.

Will you be getting stuck into this DLC, and if so on which platforms? Let us know.

Thanks to Benson for the heads up.
