Won't argue with this list. There are only eight games here, that have an average under 8, most of them near 8 and only one below 7. 10 games over an average of 9. Shows what an amazing consistently high quality series Zelda is. I'd hoped Skyward Sword will experience a redemption arc like Wind Waker, since I believe it's one of the greatest. But glad to see the original Link's Awakening getting so much love.
@Kingy Don't know, if I can answer more sophisticated because English isn't my first language and I need a lot of time to write. But thank you for your differentiated and reflected replies. You're right, I did get the AI White Knights-thing wrong, which was quite a severe misunderstanding. And I also didn't know that Embark actually hired actors and then used AI based on their specific work. Still not cool and I have to dig deeper into that But I understand your argument, now, because that is indeed more similar to the method of Tomodachi Life. Okay, it's late. I also want to apologize for my mistakes. Have a good one!
@Kingy Yeah, that's what I wonder, too. Because it seems your point is, you hate "AI-White Knights", because they don't realize, that their fight is pointless, but it's not. Even, when GenAI becomes a bigger part in creating videogames and similar things, constantly calling out it's drawbacks can at least lead to more regulation and collective consciousness about it's use.
Also, you argue with assumptions, you just pulled out of your butt, in this case. Yes, there may be some fanboys and -girls, who will advocate for Nintendo in the case it is starting to use AI. But nobody has done that in this comment section. You made yourself angry out of nowhere.
You also can confidently claim I'm twisting things, but there's simply a huge difference between the TTS in Tomodachi Life and how Arc Raiders has generated it's voiceover and I have explained that. And it's not about "Embark bad. Nintendo good." I don't trust any big company. But you just add up to the misinformation.
Negative generalizations and resigned cynicism are no signs of maturity.
@Kingy It seems, that you simply don't know why people are criticizing the use of genAI in media.
First, "learning" genAI has a huge impact on the environment, because it has an insane demand for energy and water. The unrestricted use of it will fast forward the climate change by a significant factor.
Second, genAI simply steals the work of real people, visual artists voice actors, you name it, to look or sound like the art real people have created, but without giving them credit or money. Because that's how it operates. It doesn't really create something by having a vision or inspiration. It's not actually intelligent. It even steals from the disgusting stuff it itself has put out to the point where the internet is flooded with horrific garbage, also in a way higher amount then before.
Third, the highest cost factor of creating movies, videogames and so on are still the humans creating those works. That's why big companies (and therefore some politicians) want to push the AI-scam so hard and tell you it's inevitable, which is complete BS. Because they hope they can create such works with as little human contribution as possible, so that they can have the big income from them as always, but also spare the cost for many, many employees. To them this promises gigantic financial growth and that is the only thing those psychopaths care about. They don't give a single iota about human beings and even less about the environment.
THAT IS WHY PEOPLE CARE! And that is why they ask about it and want to know, when generative AI is used. And that is why we should keep on pushing against it as much as we can.
Oh, and the older text-to-speech-algorithm techniques used within Tomodachi Life or navigation apps for years, "rearrange" words or syllibals and intonations within the program, based on pre-recorded lines from real voice actors, who where hired to speak those lines and that work has been put into the software. So, they lack the three damaging factors, I named above and therefore there's no hypocrisy at play, here. In navigation systems it's simply used, because it's impossible to pre-record every single name of every single location or street on earth, let alone in different languages. In Tomodachi Life it's just a gimmicky joke, where it's delibaratly accepted that it sounds artificial and bad in an inherently weird game. Arc Raiders on the other hand used gen AI through production to make random lines sound authentic, but without the need for real voice actors and therefore contributes to all three of those problems.
Gun was excellent! Good plot, even better atmosphere. It really took no prisoners. Some moments were genuinely shocking. The horse-Riding also felt good. Something not every game with riding in it gets right. Would love to see a Re-Release in any form.
I already double-dipped (physical and digital) on all three. But this gives hope for some other physical re-releases, for games that are sold out, like Ninja Five-0 or the Rocket Knight Collection.
Still not a fan of the visual design of the environments, which look convoluted and random, without any sense of a real place. That's the price of all the destruction, I guess. And by now, I could go without skill trees in any game for a few years. No deal breakers, though, because the rest looks really fun and promising, especially the movement, which is super important. Is it just me, but would the game be perfect for some Joycon-shaking to smash the world and throw some rocks? Could be a genuine workout.
It's not what I would have wanted from a Donkey Kong game. But that won't keep me from appreciating it as a good game on it's own. After the direct, I thought, this would be more fitting as a 3D-outing in the Wario Land-Series in terms of style and mechanics. But I guess, he's not that popular for a triple-A launch window game to push the console sales. Now, that I have to accept that it is what it is, the final verdict will probably depend on how engaging and challenging it is. I found Super Mario Odyssey (and Wonder) a little bit shallow and easy.
As for the direct itself, yeah, it did a great job in showing what the game has to offer, whichout spoiling it.
Well, till now, it lacks proper Donkey Kong feeling. I'm completely fine with Donkeys new design (it's quite cool, to be honest), but the world and the gameplay doesn't fit to what I personally expect from a DK game. I mean, it's probably no coincidence that some (many?) thought, that this would be the new 3D-Mario game, when the trailer started. The levels look too fantastical and too random, which is pretty much the opposite of what DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze achieved. This seems to belong more in like a Kirby or a Mario game, where the levels are more abstract and "psychedelic". I would prefer a more grounded atmosphere. The mechanics appear a little repetitive and I would also expect them in a game with a different Nintendo character or - shocking - a totally new IP. This would all be pretty okay, if this is meant to be a spin-off. But if this is super successful, I worry Banana will be the direction the Donkey Kong series is going for quite some time, which would be a disappointment for me personally. But, we'll see. Maybe it's super awesome and I will love it anyway.
I think, you could have waited with this video/article a few days to actually give it a proper review.
And for that review I have only one question: HOW GOOD IS THE FREAKIN' D-PAD? Or more like: Is it a useless piece of junk, like the one of the Switch 1-Pro Controller or isn't it?
Is this a renaming of an already existing article? Because aren't these basically all Switch 2 games, that were announced during the Switch 2 Direct? And the headline says 2025. But it includes games, that have confirmed or expected release dates beyond this year, like Duskbloods and Kirby's Air Rider's. Or does it literally mean you are excited in 2025, which would be kinda weird. I myself am quite excited about the next Tomb Raider and Street Fighter 7 IN 2025. I know, it's Monday...
@ChronoTimeEgg While I do like what I see of Ragebound (I'm a 2D-action fan, but haven't played the original Ninja Gaiden games), you have a point, here. It's probably more a 2D-character-action game or beat'em up with platforming, rather than a straight, simple, yet challenging action-platformer of the 8 and 16bit era. I guess the latter would be less popular with mainstream audiences of today, when they want to bring the franchise back to fame. And it is probably more in line with the 3D-outings. But I understand your criticism.
@Paddle1 Ahh, not convinced. Looks more like a different effect as feedback for grinding the wall instead of a rail or for that this charges a boost. The car looks more like it bounces towards the wall. That's why it looks flatter like in anti-gravity-mode. I could be wrong, though. Would be cool seeing anti-gravity and underwater sections in the game. I guess, we'll see soon enough.
Monolith Productions was just a quality studio with a long history, that never delivered a really bad game (as far as I know) and created some absolute cult classics, like No One Lives Forever, Blood or F.E.A.R.. And now, they're gone just like this. They truly deserved better.
I mean, okay, it's a remaster of a game, that had already been released twice. But in general, what is the purpose of these polls a few days after release? Who has finished the game by now? Definitely not the majority I would assume and hope. I'm pretty sure you got your review code more days in advance and it's your job to review games. At least give it two weeks, better one month.
For quite a while now I'm convinced the next Mario Kart will be an open-world game, called Super Mario Kart World. And with that bias, I do think that the wide shot in the beginning showed us parts of different courses left and right, that were locked off from this particular course, but there may be a mode, where you can freely roam and race through the game world. I know there are already courses in MK8D who lock certain ways per round. But to me an open-world Mario Kart game could be the next logical step. The current game has nearly 100 race tracks. How do you want to top that? The next game most certainly won't come out of the box with over a hundred. The gameplay is already a perfect "racification" of the Mario-platformer mechanics. So with all the items and different movement types, you could create something of a Mario Kart adventure single-player mode, a little bit like Diddy Kong Racing did it, but much more elaborate. Would give solo players something worthwhile again. Or it could be a "get from point a to point B however you want, just be the first"-type of Multiplayer-mode. That would also explain, that the game looks somewhat "current gen" (though I do think it's more due to the slick art design, that's already pretty timeless even in much older Nintendo/Mario games), because you would need the new hardware power to run that open-world in 60fps at a high tempo, additionally in split-screen-multiplayer, mind you. To further support my theory, the vehicles of Rosalina and Daisy grabbed my attention. Rosalina drives a genuine snowmobile, while Daisy's has propellers attached on the back end and a front part that looks like a boat or jetski, though I think it has a wheel in the middle. MK8 also had some imaginative (f.i. shiplike) designs, but they all have wheels and these here don't look very out there. So, could it be, that we can maybe customise the karts in the front and back half individually to make them more suitable for even more specific conditions like skids to give you an advantage on snow and ice or a hull to allow you to glide over water? Not a feature that would demand an open-world, but one an open-world Mario Kart game could profit from. Or may be it's just a bog-standard Mario Kart game with new courses, three to five classes, eight circuit at four tracks and frustrating single-player balance. I'll buy it anyway.
Very sceptical about the actual 2 on the stand and the default little splints to attach some grip periphery onto. The former seems too obvious, the latter would be really annoying, when you don't attach thicker grips or whatnot. So, for now, I call this fake and continue to play my insane backlog, until something official is announced.
Oh, wow, I probably haven't seen the Japanese Boxart since the 90s. It must have been part of the marketing material provided for the launch here in Germany (or Europe in general), since now I remember quite vividly that I looked at it often and long. I think, I've been a little in love with the winged girl and the tiger girl, too. (Hey, I was in my early teens. Can you blame me?) So, yeah, Japan gets the vote. It's also the better artwork.
Some funny suggestions. I'd add dual screens and/or the ability to attach the Joy Cons on top and at the bottom by default, without extra (third party) perepherie.
I really hope they fixed some of the downgrade issues, that had been apparent in the revel trailer, even compared to the 3DS-Version. Those don't seem like a dealbreaker, but avoidable and hit the atmosphere a little bit, which is one of the strongest aspects of the series. Anyway, I've been looking forward to this, since forever, because it includes the button controls of the 3DS-version with adequate modern technical realisation. I'm also a huge fan of the DKC-games. So, this will be day one, no matter the price point.
Now, we are talking. Donkey Kong Land 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time. Fingers crossed, we'll also get the Game Boy Color-version of Donkey Kong Land 3. The language barrier shouldn't be that big of an issue.
@Henmii Independent from this specific context, why should cancellation generally last for life? Do people not have a chance to change for the better? Should they forever be held against past mistakes, even though they maybe apologized and became much better persons after that, which did a lot of good things? Seems like a very harsh, unforgiving and all around unhealthy way to treat other people.
@OorWullie I'm totally convinced, that the next Mario Kart will be a) a launch title for the Switch successor, b) an open-world-game and c) therefore called "Mario Kart World" or "Super Mario Kart World". You've heard it here, first. Okay, I'm a little unsure about c). But the first two points are a given in my world. We'll know in under a year.
@goldeneye700 No, the Game Boy game, that has also been released in 1994 and simply titled "Donkey Kong" but is often called "Donkey Kong '94" to avoid confusion with the original arcade game and it's ports, because it's a vastly expanded experience and therefore pretty much a completely different game.
@TruthisRare Well, that seems really exaggerated in my book. "Uglified Aloy" and "massacred MJ"? They went from top-model looks to more normal. Would you seriously call them ugly, seeing them out on the streets? Abby is an exception, even contrasted to all the other women in the game and women in most games, too. "Suicide Squad"? I've only seen Harley and Wonder Woman and aren't they also like super model good looking or did I miss something? In "Mutant Mayhem" just about every character looks disgustingly ugly, except April. But they made her chubby, because why not? Such women exist. It's one interpretation of many. The ugliness of characters in "Starfield" and "Andromeda" seems more like an engine problem than a real decision. I still don't see the problem and would argue that there are far more examples (like over 80% if I had to make a wild guess) with female protagonists catering to your tastes, be it actresses, models, singers and whatnot. They went from making all girls and women looking "perfect" to making a few of them look just normal or muscular or chubby, for more variety and sometimes, yes, representation. Complaining about how the far left destroy everything somebody likes with a few examples and somehow talk about that this is an opposition to common sense (like how?), while refusing to apply that very common sense to the topic, is the same kind of twisted extremist logic the far right use. (not saying, that you are one) Also, there are different aspects to sexualisation. "Stellar Blade" in my eyes is one, where it appears completely out of place compared to the world, story and the male protagonists, which are ugly or not sexualised at all. I found that dumb, distracting and immersion-breaking. Either you go all in and make the sexualisation a central element of an over-the-top experience, like in "Bayonetta" or some fighting games and also apply it to the male characters, because many people like to look at sexy men, too. Or, you go a more mature way, clothe your protagonists appropriately to the circumstances, but don't make them asexual. Give them relationships and a sex-life enmeshed into the story and universe.
I can't see this game getting negative reviews at all. GBA games don't really age in my eyes and this seems like a mere coat of paint. No complaint in general, but I genuinely wonder, why Nintendo decided to not release "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" via Nintendo Switch Online and remake "Donkey Kong" (1994) for the original Game Boy instead? Such a remake would have had a much greater effect in difference and it might be the better game and also pretty much the start of this whole series.
@TruthisRare Can you provide examples of games, with fat ugly chicks? Can't think of one. I'd also say, that lean, trained women as main protagonists (when they are the main character) are still the majority by far. A kind of relieve about getting them back (or what?) seems like pointing out to a problem, that doesn't exist. And for the record: Lean girls are absolutely my preferred type, too. And I also build a female character to my tastes, whenever possible in a game. I just have a hard time seeing your complaint.
@Aswannsong Your fight for the rightious cause is commendable.
BUT, it's not that many (of exactly two people who commented on this specific topic at that point) don't understand how sourcing and credit work, when the only thing missing is the mere link to the original source. So rein in your narcicism and don't be so freakin' arrogant!
It's also the fact that Nintendolife and Eurogamer are partnered websites. So, we can rightfully assume, that Eurogamer is well aware and okay with, that NL uses Digital Foundry articles and videos.
Nice to hear about an update on the Switch version. Liked the first one quiet a bit (and far more than any "Sonic" game, I've ever played). But this looks on another level.
Seperately available Joycon with an actual (good) D-Pad. A better Pro-Controller, particularly with a better D-Pad. Better analog-sticks for the base-model. The ones of the Switch Lite are pretty great. Make the Joycon attachable in a vertical-screen-position by default, for TATE-mode and Nintendo (3)DS-emulation. Restrict the release of obviously lousy games on the eShop. Better online-everything: Voice-chat, speed, user-interface, buying more that one item at a time etc..
Just came here to see, if someone actually voted for "Sonic".
Just kidding. I know it has it's fans, who seriously prefer it over "Mario".
While I hate "Sonic"-games gameplay-wise (artstyle and music are pretty cool), I do indeed think that "Sonic Superstars" looks rather solid. I'm interested.
"Super Mario Bros. Wonder" looks bloody fantastic, though and will probably be the last full priced game I'll buy asap this year. I'm hyped!
"The Messenger" can be a challenge at times, but not up there with "Hollow Knight" or other infamously hard games. The game itself has some (optional) elements to avoid frustration. Even though it later changes to a Metroidvania in structure, with a good amount of backtracking, it is first and foremost an excellent platformer. Not only has it a unique double jumb mechanic, but the timeline hopping from 8 to 16bit world is used repeatedly for puzzles and platforming challenges. I'm not through, yet, but the game keeps on giving and constantly introduces new gameplay ideas. Graphics are nice, music is great, controls are tight and on top it's really funny. The developers absolutely know what they are doing. A must-play in my eyes.

I'm pretty sure you got your review code more days in advance and it's your job to review games.
At least give it two weeks, better one month.
Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs
Or it could be a "get from point a to point B however you want, just be the
first"-type of Multiplayer-mode.
Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs
@Paulo That's actually a good point and would allow for an X/Cross-pun in the title.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
Let the Switch 2 Pro rumours begin!
Re: Is This Our Best Look Yet At 'Switch 2'?
Very sceptical about the actual 2 on the stand and the default little splints to attach some grip periphery onto. The former seems too obvious, the latter would be really annoying, when you don't attach thicker grips or whatnot. So, for now, I call this fake and continue to play my insane backlog, until something official is announced.
Re: Talking Point: Our 2025 Nintendo Gaming Predictions
My prediction is an Open-World-Mario Kart within the launch window. Call it Super Mario Kart World.
You heard it here, first.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Breath Of Fire II
Oh, wow, I probably haven't seen the Japanese Boxart since the 90s. It must have been part of the marketing material provided for the launch here in Germany (or Europe in general), since now I remember quite vividly that I looked at it often and long. I think, I've been a little in love with the winged girl and the tiger girl, too. (Hey, I was in my early teens. Can you blame me?)
So, yeah, Japan gets the vote. It's also the better artwork.
Re: Nintendo Highlights Every 'Donkey Kong Country' On Switch With A New Trailer
That is a surprising amount of love for the series. Maybe there is indeed a new title coming, after we get Returns HD.
Re: Feature: 9 Things Nintendo Could Add To Switch 2 So It's Not 'Just Another Switch'
Some funny suggestions. I'd add dual screens and/or the ability to attach the Joy Cons on top and at the bottom by default, without extra (third party) perepherie.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?
I really hope they fixed some of the downgrade issues, that had been apparent in the revel trailer, even compared to the 3DS-Version. Those don't seem like a dealbreaker, but avoidable and hit the atmosphere a little bit, which is one of the strongest aspects of the series.
Anyway, I've been looking forward to this, since forever, because it includes the button controls of the 3DS-version with adequate modern technical realisation.
I'm also a huge fan of the DKC-games. So, this will be day one, no matter the price point.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Another Classic
Now, we are talking. Donkey Kong Land 2 is one of my favorite games of all-time.
Fingers crossed, we'll also get the Game Boy Color-version of Donkey Kong Land 3. The language barrier shouldn't be that big of an issue.
Re: Rumour: A Rayman Remake May Be On The Cards At Ubisoft
@Henmii Independent from this specific context, why should cancellation generally last for life? Do people not have a chance to change for the better? Should they forever be held against past mistakes, even though they maybe apologized and became much better persons after that, which did a lot of good things? Seems like a very harsh, unforgiving and all around unhealthy way to treat other people.
Re: Random: Is This The Harshest Mario Kart 8 Has Ever Been?
@OorWullie I'm totally convinced, that the next Mario Kart will be a) a launch title for the Switch successor, b) an open-world-game and c) therefore called "Mario Kart World" or "Super Mario Kart World". You've heard it here, first.
Okay, I'm a little unsure about c). But the first two points are a given in my world. We'll know in under a year.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
@TruthisRare I came to a different conclusion. 😄
Re: The First Review For Mario Vs. Donkey Kong On Switch Is In
@goldeneye700 No, the Game Boy game, that has also been released in 1994 and simply titled "Donkey Kong" but is often called "Donkey Kong '94" to avoid confusion with the original arcade game and it's ports, because it's a vastly expanded experience and therefore pretty much a completely different game.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
@Spider-Kev Except that the trigger warning has nothing to do with the depiction of a certain conventional stereotype of attractiveness.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
(not saying, that you are one)
Also, there are different aspects to sexualisation.
Re: The First Review For Mario Vs. Donkey Kong On Switch Is In
I can't see this game getting negative reviews at all.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
@TruthisRare Can you provide examples of games, with fat ugly chicks? Can't think of one. I'd also say, that lean, trained women as main protagonists (when they are the main character) are still the majority by far. A kind of relieve about getting them back (or what?) seems like pointing out to a problem, that doesn't exist. And for the record: Lean girls are absolutely my preferred type, too. And I also build a female character to my tastes, whenever possible in a game. I just have a hard time seeing your complaint.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
@Aswannsong Your fight for the rightious cause is commendable.
BUT, it's not that many (of exactly two people who commented on this specific topic at that point) don't understand how sourcing and credit work, when the only thing missing is the mere link to the original source. So rein in your narcicism and don't be so freakin' arrogant!
It's also the fact that Nintendolife and Eurogamer are partnered websites. So, we can rightfully assume, that Eurogamer is well aware and okay with, that NL uses Digital Foundry articles and videos.
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Seeking More Studios To Work On Its IP
Cool! Let From Software make a 3D-"Metroid". Thanks!
Re: Freedom Planet 2 Switch Release Delayed To Spring 2024
Nice to hear about an update on the Switch version. Liked the first one quiet a bit (and far more than any "Sonic" game, I've ever played). But this looks on another level.
Re: Anniversary: Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Is 10 Years Old Today
@Kyloctopus What the heck? Really? That one hits way harder.
Re: Talking Point: Along With Joy-Con Drift, What Does Nintendo Have To 'Fix' With 'Switch 2'?
Seperately available Joycon with an actual (good) D-Pad. A better Pro-Controller, particularly with a better D-Pad.
Better analog-sticks for the base-model. The ones of the Switch Lite are pretty great.
Make the Joycon attachable in a vertical-screen-position by default, for TATE-mode and Nintendo (3)DS-emulation.
Restrict the release of obviously lousy games on the eShop.
Better online-everything: Voice-chat, speed, user-interface, buying more that one item at a time etc..
Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC - What Would You Have Liked To See?
I only miss the tracking option, that lets me see where I've already been.
Re: Poll: Mario & Sonic Face Off On Switch This October - Whose Corner Are You In?
Just came here to see, if someone actually voted for "Sonic".
Just kidding. I know it has it's fans, who seriously prefer it over "Mario".
While I hate "Sonic"-games gameplay-wise (artstyle and music are pretty cool), I do indeed think that "Sonic Superstars" looks rather solid. I'm interested.
"Super Mario Bros. Wonder" looks bloody fantastic, though and will probably be the last full priced game I'll buy asap this year. I'm hyped!
Re: Sea Of Stars Dev Open To Revisiting Ninja Hit The Messenger
@Mariotag
