Another interesting thing to note, this will be the first time the game receives a worldwide release. Until now, it's only gotten a NA and EU release on consoles. Might pick it up for portability.
Definitely plan on picking this up alongside the new Parascientific Escape. Just so I'm clear before beginning the story mode, you have to close the game entirely while in story mode, rather than using the menu to quit?
Definitely nowhere near the standards set by Trace Memory or even AGAIN. Having one quick case (I took an hour twenty to finish) that just sets up what is presumably a larger story feels like a rip-off for the price. Aksys' localization isn't up to what we're used to from Cing (or ex-Cing). It's a pretty game, with a great soundtrack, but there's no substance here. Hopefully it'll get fleshed out as more 'episodes' come out, but given Aksys basically said 'we don't know if they'll make more than just the one'...
Eh, it was okay. Dialogue could've used another pass and the plot's nothing I haven't seen done better elsewhere. The psychic puzzles reminded me of a Layton game, only they didn't feel shoehorned in, so that's a plus. There's plenty better VNs out there (even just on 3DS) but for the price it's worth a look.
Urghh. I really wanted to love Code Name STEAM, but there were just so many niggling problems that I had to put it down and never touch it again. The turn times were ridiculous (before they patched them, at least), the hit mechanics were wonky (Watching my bullets fly straight through a flying enemy because I didn't click the button at the exact nanosecond it was "hittable"), and half the enemies seemed to be designed solely to be annoying to fight (aforementioned flying stunners being a particular irritation). It had such potential, it's a shame we'll probably never see a sequel that realizes it.
I've gotten to the point where I've mostly acclimated to them, but they still feel clumsy and entirely unnecessary to do the whole "fly and shoot in opposite directions" thing. I don't think anyone would have had a problem if they'd been made optional. Also flicking the sticks to do maneuvers was a terrible idea.
I... I don't know why but this almost looks TOO fast for me. GX Master Class Diamond already defeated me in my prime, so I have no idea how I'm going to handle THIS.
Man, I really hope Trauma Team sells a ton on the eShop so Atlus might takes another look at that series, considering how badly it sold originally. As one person put it: "Six Doctors. Six Specialties. Eleven thousand copies."
Also if I'm not mistaken this marks the first Atlus title on the eShop.
Hey, remember when Nintendo didn't want to publish The Last Story? Then it became XSeed's best selling title with solid reviews across the board? We'll see if Devil's Third gets bad reviews before leaping to Nintendo's defence.
@ikki5 Except that there is. Every exclusive amiibo in the US has remained exclusive in Canada with the exception of Rosalina. Jigglypuff became a Wal-Mart exclusive in Canada since we don't have Target.
You know why I'm happy for this and not FedForce? One this actually looks unique and fun, and two because we get a mainline Fire Emblem the same year, unlike FedForce where we still have no idea when a real Metroid will even be announced.
I can only hope that if this game tanks at retail, Nintendo doesn't take it as a sign that there is no interest in the Metroid franchise. I know I won't be buying it unless they do some serious overhauling to what we've seen already.
Don't get me wrong, the game still looks fun (if a bit basic and slow, but maybe that's just the opening levels). I guess I had something more visually striking in my mind when I heard "Next-gen StarFox". I wonder how much Platinum is involved with SFZ, since the first trailers don't really strike me as a Platinum game.
I hear some people demanding that as an "apology" they immediately cancel FedForce and make a real Metroid. No. Let it come out, watch it bomb, and let Nintendo learn what EA did with Syndicate, and 2K with XCOM.
Man, it would have been so nice to see a NA release date for Devil's Third as a throwaway, given the game's so close to release in all other territories, but I guess the thirty Mario Maker segments took precedence.
@Konda They showed a bunch of gameplay during the Treehouse event, and (in my opinion) it looked nothing like a Metroid title, and looked like a generic eShop shooter.
The gameplay looks good, but I think the overall graphical design needed an overhaul. Add more vents, details and such, give it that shiny next-gen look. I don't know, it just didn't leave me with a "WOW" after watching.
I wonder if they're doing these conferences electronically so people can't boo them, like when they revealed StarFox Armada (later Assault) as an FPS way back on the Gamecube. I know I would have been booing after seeing Federation Force.
3DS Metroid? Yeah, that sounds great! 3DS Multiplayer Metroid? Hunters was pretty good for the time, so still interested. Generic, super-deformed artstyle with few hints of Metroid gameplay? Go jump in a lava pit without the Varia Suit.
What WAS that? Starfox is nice to see again but it looks a generation out of date. Why did we need to see so much Mario Maker? We already had an hour of seeing why it was awesome during the NWC finals. The new Zelda looked a bit gimmicky, but I enjoyed the Four Swords titles. SMTxFE didn't have much new, but we saw it a few months ago so no complaints there, FE: Fates is getting localized (hopefully without the split versions) so that's good. Yo-Kai Watch, Mario Tennis, Animal Crossing... doesn't interest me, really, but can't complain. Paper Jam looks like a hoot, hopefully they learnt their lesson with Sticker Star. But dear god, Federation Force is a slap in the face. I'm fine with a new portable entry in the series, since I adored Hunters. But I think Hunters looked more visually attractive, and the gameplay shown in the Treehouse part after the show looks bland and uninteresting, as well as nothing like a Metroid title. Absolutely the biggest disappointment of the show for me. A bunch of games they already had in the pipeline were never brought up (Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon had a trailer shown shortly after the show, Devil's Third is out in August and still nothing about it, Fatal Frame is another). Square Enix, Sony, and Bethesda walked all over Nintendo this time.
I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the game, but it just draaaaaaged the closer you got to the finale. I remember going "yeah, it really feels like we're close, it's gonna be a great finish", and then there still being like a quarter of the game left and it just burnt me out. Still haven't finished it. I really hope this one mixes up the gameplay a bunch.
I seriously hope they offer an extension for this, or at least help people out through support. I didn't go through all this for Platinum just to get screwed by their (as always) lousy servers for Club Nintendo.
Exceedingly annoyed that the site went down after I blew $40 on eShop titles to get the last few points I need for platinum, and I've been waiting a few hours and will probably get told "sorry that our servers didn't process your purchases and let you do the surveys before the site went down for maintenance". I've been sitting here for the last two hours waiting.
I was quite a fan of the Luminous Arc series, and this looks like a spiritual successor of sorts (but kind of odd, considering they've already confirmed a fourth Luminous Arc for the Vita).
I just picked up the pair I had pre-ordered today, one for myself and one for the roommate... To be honest I might wind up selling mine if they're going for THAT much. Maybe then I can use the money to get a Shulk amiibo. And a car.
As far as I know Rosalina + Luma haven't been made available for pre-order yet, don't start fretting. So far no canadians have been able to pre-order these, but luckily for me there's a Target, Toys 'R Us, Best Buy, and two EB Games near me which should hopefully get in on the exclusives. Me and the roommate already have a Payday-style plan to get our hands on all four.
And pre-orders for Lucario at Toys R' Us are already sold out in the US, it seems. I did a store surf (Canada) to try and get some of the Wave 2s, street date for Zelda, Little Mac, and Diddy seem to be December 12th based on what everyone told me. None of the three confirmed store exclusive Amiibos could be pre-ordered in store for me (though EB Games told me that despite being owned by Gamestop they TECHNICALLY don't get all their exclusive goodies. We do have a few GS so I'll have to check them). I did manage to get my hands on a Zelda (which was everywhere, and most stores said they had a ton of them), and one store didn't realize street date was tomorrow for Little Mac and sold it to me (the others told me they couldn't, even if it was on the shelf). Damaged box, so I'll probably use it for myself and pick up another one for a gift to a Punch-Out!! fanatic. Also no Marth, Villager, or Wii Fit at any of the seven stores I tried, nor any shelf space with a tag for them. I got my Wii Fit Trainer last week, and the store had another one. Maybe I'll pick it up and scalp it if it's still there when I go to grab another Little Mac. Would be nice to pay off my Shulk pre-order, and maybe a few other Amiibos.
When on earth did Gone Home get sucked into the quagmire of the Quinnspiracy? It's not exactly my type of game but it's good to see more critically acclaimed experiences arriving on the Wii U.
@Grumblevolcano At least here in canada, one of my friends who owns a Wii U wasn't able to transfer his copies of all three DKCs from his Wii to his Wii U if I recall correctly.
So that makes it so that every game on the Wii Shop can be transferred and played on the Wii U in Wii mode? With the exception of VC titles pulled from sale like DKC.
Will I buy SKB? No, I don't find the game appealing nor the fanservice titillating. But I wouldn't dream of condemning or boycotting it simply because I don't like it. We have enough outside challenges as an industry to be fighting internally over stuff like this (especially when in the US there's legislature being drafted that would make M-rated games not qualify as art for the purposes of tax breaks). Everyone's free to have their opinion, but everyone else is free to criticize and not buy their products if they don't like it.
