Re: Payday 2 Announced For Nintendo Switch

Mattiator

Another interesting thing to note, this will be the first time the game receives a worldwide release. Until now, it's only gotten a NA and EU release on consoles. Might pick it up for portability.

Re: Review: Lifespeed (New Nintendo 3DS)

Mattiator

Definitely plan on picking this up alongside the new Parascientific Escape. Just so I'm clear before beginning the story mode, you have to close the game entirely while in story mode, rather than using the menu to quit?

Re: Review: Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories (3DS eShop)

Mattiator

Definitely nowhere near the standards set by Trace Memory or even AGAIN. Having one quick case (I took an hour twenty to finish) that just sets up what is presumably a larger story feels like a rip-off for the price. Aksys' localization isn't up to what we're used to from Cing (or ex-Cing). It's a pretty game, with a great soundtrack, but there's no substance here. Hopefully it'll get fleshed out as more 'episodes' come out, but given Aksys basically said 'we don't know if they'll make more than just the one'...

Re: Review: Parascientific Escape Cruise in the Distant Seas (3DS eShop)

Eh, it was okay. Dialogue could've used another pass and the plot's nothing I haven't seen done better elsewhere. The psychic puzzles reminded me of a Layton game, only they didn't feel shoehorned in, so that's a plus. There's plenty better VNs out there (even just on 3DS) but for the price it's worth a look.

Re: Editorial: Fire Emblem Fates and Code Name S.T.E.A.M., Two Very Different Intelligent Systems Ventures

Mattiator

Urghh. I really wanted to love Code Name STEAM, but there were just so many niggling problems that I had to put it down and never touch it again. The turn times were ridiculous (before they patched them, at least), the hit mechanics were wonky (Watching my bullets fly straight through a flying enemy because I didn't click the button at the exact nanosecond it was "hittable"), and half the enemies seemed to be designed solely to be annoying to fight (aforementioned flying stunners being a particular irritation). It had such potential, it's a shame we'll probably never see a sequel that realizes it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Mattiator

What WAS that? Starfox is nice to see again but it looks a generation out of date. Why did we need to see so much Mario Maker? We already had an hour of seeing why it was awesome during the NWC finals. The new Zelda looked a bit gimmicky, but I enjoyed the Four Swords titles. SMTxFE didn't have much new, but we saw it a few months ago so no complaints there, FE: Fates is getting localized (hopefully without the split versions) so that's good. Yo-Kai Watch, Mario Tennis, Animal Crossing... doesn't interest me, really, but can't complain. Paper Jam looks like a hoot, hopefully they learnt their lesson with Sticker Star. But dear god, Federation Force is a slap in the face. I'm fine with a new portable entry in the series, since I adored Hunters. But I think Hunters looked more visually attractive, and the gameplay shown in the Treehouse part after the show looks bland and uninteresting, as well as nothing like a Metroid title. Absolutely the biggest disappointment of the show for me. A bunch of games they already had in the pipeline were never brought up (Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon had a trailer shown shortly after the show, Devil's Third is out in August and still nothing about it, Fatal Frame is another). Square Enix, Sony, and Bethesda walked all over Nintendo this time.

Re: Project X Zone 2 Crosses Over to the West For a Fall Release on Nintendo 3DS

Mattiator

I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the game, but it just draaaaaaged the closer you got to the finale. I remember going "yeah, it really feels like we're close, it's gonna be a great finish", and then there still being like a quarter of the game left and it just burnt me out. Still haven't finished it. I really hope this one mixes up the gameplay a bunch.

Re: Reminder: This is Your Last Day to Register Products on Club Nintendo

Mattiator

Exceedingly annoyed that the site went down after I blew $40 on eShop titles to get the last few points I need for platinum, and I've been waiting a few hours and will probably get told "sorry that our servers didn't process your purchases and let you do the surveys before the site went down for maintenance". I've been sitting here for the last two hours waiting.

Re: Rosalina & Luma amiibo Exclusive to Target in US, as More Peculiar Defects Are Shown Off Online

Mattiator

As far as I know Rosalina + Luma haven't been made available for pre-order yet, don't start fretting. So far no canadians have been able to pre-order these, but luckily for me there's a Target, Toys 'R Us, Best Buy, and two EB Games near me which should hopefully get in on the exclusives. Me and the roommate already have a Payday-style plan to get our hands on all four.

Re: Demand For amiibo Continues As Pre-Orders For Forthcoming Waves Sell Out

Mattiator

And pre-orders for Lucario at Toys R' Us are already sold out in the US, it seems. I did a store surf (Canada) to try and get some of the Wave 2s, street date for Zelda, Little Mac, and Diddy seem to be December 12th based on what everyone told me. None of the three confirmed store exclusive Amiibos could be pre-ordered in store for me (though EB Games told me that despite being owned by Gamestop they TECHNICALLY don't get all their exclusive goodies. We do have a few GS so I'll have to check them). I did manage to get my hands on a Zelda (which was everywhere, and most stores said they had a ton of them), and one store didn't realize street date was tomorrow for Little Mac and sold it to me (the others told me they couldn't, even if it was on the shelf). Damaged box, so I'll probably use it for myself and pick up another one for a gift to a Punch-Out!! fanatic. Also no Marth, Villager, or Wii Fit at any of the seven stores I tried, nor any shelf space with a tag for them. I got my Wii Fit Trainer last week, and the store had another one. Maybe I'll pick it up and scalp it if it's still there when I go to grab another Little Mac. Would be nice to pay off my Shulk pre-order, and maybe a few other Amiibos.

Re: Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women In Games Won't Make the Problem Go Away

Mattiator

Will I buy SKB? No, I don't find the game appealing nor the fanservice titillating. But I wouldn't dream of condemning or boycotting it simply because I don't like it. We have enough outside challenges as an industry to be fighting internally over stuff like this (especially when in the US there's legislature being drafted that would make M-rated games not qualify as art for the purposes of tax breaks). Everyone's free to have their opinion, but everyone else is free to criticize and not buy their products if they don't like it.
