BOTW trailer, easily. Its a masterpiece of editing work, perfect pacing and syncronisation between what is happening and the music and dialogue.
The TOTK one, meanwhile, does exactly what I predicted this final trailer would do - aim for the same superb editing as the BOTW trailer, but fall short of it by a good margin. Its still very good, don't get me wrong - but its nowhere near close to what the final BOTW trailer is. TOTK one feels a bit too full of stuff and the pacing is slapdash because of it - all because prior to this trailer they had shown us literally nothing in comparison, so had to cram a ton of stuff into the latest trailer to get people hyped.
TL;DR - BOTW trailer is leagues better in every way, TOTK one falls short despite being a very good trailer in and of itself.
Edit - I guess the recency bias is VERY strong with this poll, lol
@CielloArc It doesn't matter if most players don't bother to watch the credits and not see who worked on the game. Its the principle that matters here, since often times having names in credits is essential to acquiring jobs in the industry to begin with - "work and be credited on X number of games" is often a requirement to be hired. Crediting matters massively.
Its just crazy to me that crediting people in games and other media is such of a supposed "controversial" thing. Its not hard to do, just add peoples names to a text file at the end of the game. It doesnt matter how long they were there or if they fulfilled what was needed of them only a portion of the way into the dev cycle and then laid off - they did the work, they should be credited. Simple as. Hopefully this practice changes.
Hard to care when its been hyped up for 4 or so years at this point, and all we have seen doesn't suggest much "new" stuff, nor anything particularly mind melting. The game will be good, as was BOTW, but I cannot see myself getting it until long after it has released after I see more of the actual gameplay part of the video game.
@Olmectron An extra 10 bucks is still a lot for tons of people though. Sure it might not be a case of the person literally going homeless if they pay an extra 10 for a game, but that's taking it to a very unlikely and purposefully impractical extreme.
Again, it's the principle of the price increase more than anything. Nintendo absolutely WILL be charging more for all their major games after TOTK, regardless of quality or scope.
You know how people complain about how the Mario sports games feel super not worth the money? Or Nintendo switch sports? Or every Pokémon game on the system? The list goes on. And I can guarantee that all these sorts of games will be getting the price hike in the future too.
@TheBigBlue Happy to report that I literally never have or will buy into current AAA gaming. Everything just looks so crap and unenjoyable, and the very few I have played were not fun in the slightest.
But thanks for worrying about my mental well-being though, bud 😉
@NorwegianMate @Olmectron again, just because something can go up in price does not mean it should. It doesn't matter if gaming isn't a necessity, it's the principle that matters here. Nintendo charging 70 for TOTK is purely them jumping on the train the rest of the industry is currently on, despite the fact that there WILL be a DLC expansion as well as other supplemental items (amiibo etc) to get as much cash from consumers wallets. 99% of the switch user base are stupid, they will see "oh new game" and pay whatever price is attached to it.
@NorwegianMate Just because everything HAS gone up in price doesn't mean that everything SHOULD be going up in price.
The inflation argument does not work here, this game will obviously have a 20 dollar DLC pass, as do every other 70 dollar game these days. It's not about recouping the cost cus the world is the way it is and everything is expensive, it's greedy companies exploiting their consumers as much as they possibly can.
Nintendo has seen the rest of the industry move towards higher price point games, and are using TOTK as their way in while using the veil of "there's lots of content in it though" as an excuse to charge more. They know their consumers are stupid enough to fall for it.
No game should be priced at 70 dollars. It might have enough content to make it "worth" that much, but 99% of the time a 70 dollar game is definitely not worth that much, and usually heavily discounted before long.
Nintendo is doing this because they know they an get away with it - people are willing to pay whatever price for a sequel to such a revolutionary game as BOTW, they won't stop and think about the cost whatsoever.
Phantom hourglass, when you had to put the console to sleep to transfer an icon to the bottom screen. Though I was using a 2ds to be fair.
Metroid dread, the boss fight with the specimen or whatever it was called - it has a phase where it holds onto the walls with its four arms and somehow I never figured out to shoot them for like an hour and a half.
Animal crossing one since its pretty much the only one that makes the whole unit special and unique in some way - different dock, different joycon with two tone shells, different main tablet design. Really wish they would do more in this sorta style instead of "plain decal on dock and controllers and mayyyybe a new controller colour if we feel nice".
Mario version is second cus it actually does change everything once again.
Hopefully the park branches out to all sorts of nintendo IP down the line, it's a little dull how its ALL mario so far but that's understandable - it is their largest IP after all. Once they add a few more varied IP themed areas then it will live up to the nintendo world name.
Thats a stupidly high price. Almost certainly going to be less when it goes up on the official store, though I would not be surprised if its charged at a slight premium just because its a zelda product.
It's gotta be the switch purely because every major IP Nintendo has is on there, in many cases series have multiple entries. Helps that barely any of these exclusives are outright bad, with the worst games being stuff that's just unfinished at launch and they tried to do the "update with content we already had done" (so pretty much all the Mario sports games).
Only thing it's lacking compared to older consoles are the more quirky and small scale IP, like we barely ever get the sorts of games that would pop up on the 3ds eshop, which sucks a lot. Same goes for the dead series like f zero, wave race, etc - the older consoles have that in their favour. I just don't quite think that the switch lacking those games is much of a problem when 95% of the rest of it's exclusives are stellar hit after stellar hit.
Though a man can hope for smaller eshop scale stuff. And a kid Icarus uprising port. Please?
Japanese easily. Samus in a more interesting pose, more dynamic colour range... the Europe/NA box is just a lot more dull and static, and its much less interesting as a result.
Xenoblade 3 DLC and baten kaitos are lock ins for me. Heavily considering pikmin 4, still need to play 3 deluxe first though, so will do that and go from there.
Metroid prime remaster looks very good, but unlikely to pick up, as is kirby. Botw2 looks fine, I am sure I will pick it up eventually.
...why, exactly? That seems like a very dumb choice.
I feel like I will have a much higher chance of dropping the game if its japanese voices only, I don't want to be reading every single line of dialogue in the game.
Hopefully this list expands soon, not a ton of variety there right now. This year has only the xenoblade 3 DLC thats interesting to me, so hopefully that gets a couple more games to go with it.
Been a leak not long ago today of a bunch of lego sets for this year, and one of them is a 2 in 1 build of the great deku tree! Comes with minifigures of child link from OOT, and link and zelda from BOTW. The set can be built as the deku tree from OOT or BOTW, hence the included figures. Hestu is included as a little build in the BOTW version too. Images linked below.
I have had many a time where I see a game with awesome pixel art and buy it on a whim only for me to end up not enjoying the way it plays. I fall for great pixel art Every. Single. Time. I need to be extremely wary any time I see a new game with an awesome artstyle now, and I hate it.
Almost certainly gonna be a "Switch ___". Theres no way they can back out of hybrid consoles now, its done wonders for them.
Personally I just want something that can run all 1st party stuff at 1080p 60fps, which should be the standard for all games these days. Just do that, and you have yourself a sale, nintendo.
Once the nintendo uk store decides to list them they will be ordered immediately. I still do not understand why the store isn't listing things for preorder very much these days, it seems so arbritrary.
Maybe its cus of the whole xenoblade 3 collectors ediiton debacle last year that put them off...
1 - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 2 - Kirby and the Forgotten Land 3 - Splatoon 3 uhhhh I didn't really play a lot this year. 4 and 5 are probably a couple of decent indies I can't recall whatsoever.
Xenoblade has no chance of winning GOTY, sadly. The awards come down to a popularity contest for 99% of categories, hence why it won't win GOTY and likely not the RPG category either since elden ring is there.

Well there goes one of the two great ranked modes for probably a week. Looking forward to suffering through splat zones and clam blitz even more than usual.
What an absolute mess. The site went live ONE TIME at around 8pm BST after the initial email at 11:30am BST - this was for all of 5 minutes before crashing once again. Then the page to actually preorder was flat out removed at around midnight.
Twelve hours of this sh*t. I would be suprised if those who actually managed to grab an order numbered in the triple digits.
Congratulations once again, nintendo, for being the absolute worst. I truly look forward to not using your awful website again.
Why are you so useless when it comes to this sort of thing? Just make a set number of copies based on consumer interest, and let them buy it without risk of your site going down immediately.
At this rate we'll have a good half dozen emails saying they are pushing back the preorder date every couple of weeks. Truly bizarre how this product has had so many problems even going up for preorder, for god's sake.
Kinda bad overall. First party announcements were alright, but nothing special. Third party stuff was the usual slog of whatever titles, square enix stuff and RPGs. Just not much there to be a crowd pleaser at all, really. Plus ending on that zelda trailer... its hard to be excited for a game thats been known of for over 3 years now, and all we have seen is "botw again, but now with sky exploration and a couple powers we cannot gain much insight into cus they were shown for 3 seconds each". Plus its still 8 months off. Yeaaaah, it was a pretty weak ending.
Great direct for fire emblem/pikmin/farm fans, I guess.
@YoshiAngemon Theres two ROB variants since his default colour used in smash differs between Japan and elsewhere - grey for overseas, famicom red/beige in japan, which meant that they already had plans to make the two variants and just brought the second one overseas.
For cloud corrin and bayo, I think its just because they were the last DLC characters for smash 4. They are the only ones who got a new specific mould, so its likely just as a final big hurrah sort of thing.
@Rykdrew But you aren't just paying for the single player... you are paying the full $60 for a primarily multiplayer focused game that happens to have a single player campaign attached to it.
I can get what you mean about having only the single player content left when the game eventually goes offline, but what about the potential hundreds upon hundreds of hours of multiplayer content you will have experienced before that happens? Is that potential time spent in multiplayer suddenly NOT factored into the overall cost of the product? Again, online multiplayer is the primary mde of the game. If you are there solely for single player content then I sorta understand your point, but even so... it'd be like buying smash ultimate to play solely the world of light campaign, as a comparison.
Probably not a ton to actually spoil with a game like this... if the story of the first two games are anything to go by, its not going to be anything that incredible. Though I get why diehard fans would wanna avoid anything.
I don't particularly care if they get ported or not, I have WWHD and its a fine game. What i do care about is how much they charge, and it is almost going to be the full retail price of 60 bucks/50 quid, going by the skyward sword port a while back. Same goes for all these rumoured gamecube ports/semi-remasters that have been going around recently. All gonna be full price, regardless of if they are a straight port, an HD upgrade, or a full on remake.
I mean theres been a zelda-tangential game released every year since the switch released.
2017 BOTW 2018 Hyrule Warriors DE 2019 Link's Awakening remake, Cadence of Hyrule 2020 Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity 2021 Skyward Sword HD
Sure, its not the next mainline title, but its something for the franchise every single year. Thats a ton more than can be said the majority of nintendo IP. I would not be surprised if nintendo announces and releases ports of wind waker and/or twilight princess HD before the year is up.
8 Deluxe at number 1, as I knew would happen. By such a large score margin too, thats crazy. Still believe that its a dull and infuriating experience most of the time, has nothing interesting at all. Boring driving mechanics, god awful item balancing, anitgravity being just okay. Still a solid game, but nothing more than a 6/10 to me.

Such a stellar game despite it flaws, and the one that got me into the whole series proper. Truly owe a lot to xenoblade 2.

Xenoblade has no chance of winning GOTY, sadly. The awards come down to a popularity contest for 99% of categories, hence why it won't win GOTY and likely not the RPG category either since elden ring is there.
It absolutely SHOULD win the best music category, none of the other nominees even come close to the scope and quality having had a listen through their OSTs for a while today. At the very least we get to hear some xenoblade music in the GOTY medley (and possibly the more general medley they usually do), so that is more than a win in my books.

2021 Skyward Sword HD
Sure, its not the next mainline title, but its something for the franchise every single year. Thats a ton more than can be said the majority of nintendo IP. I would not be surprised if nintendo announces and releases ports of wind waker and/or twilight princess HD before the year is up.
Re: Best Mario Kart Games Of All Time
8 Deluxe at number 1, as I knew would happen. By such a large score margin too, thats crazy. Still believe that its a dull and infuriating experience most of the time, has nothing interesting at all. Boring driving mechanics, god awful item balancing, anitgravity being just okay. Still a solid game, but nothing more than a 6/10 to me.
