Update [March 20th, 10.55am]: If you missed out on the Nintendo Switch NES and SNES controllers, exclusive to Switch Online subscribers, now's the time to get them while you can. They've been restocked at the My Nintendo Store UK – but don't hang around, they usually sell out pretty fast!
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
Original Article: If you're a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber who hasn't yet taken the opportunity to pick up the NES and SNES-inspired controllers for Switch (which just so happen to be perfect for playing the NES and SNES games available as part of your subsciption), you now have another chance.
Both controllers are once again available on the My Nintendo Store across Europe; as before, the NES controllers are bundled in a two-pack, while the SNES controller comes on its own. The NES controllers are actually half price, too, so now wouldn't be a bad time to throw the whole lot in your basket if you've had your eye on them.
If you're interested, you can do just that below.
Remember, you need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription and be logged into Nintendo's site with that account to get access to those deals.
Will you be treating yourself? Do you already own either of these? Let us know in the comments.

Cool.
goes back to playing with 8bitdo controllers
Why not make the SNES one cheaper too? Its more expensive than the NES 2 pack on sale, thats kinda dumb. Plus thats the price the NES controllers should be for 2 of them in the first place.
I don't suppose anyone wants to purchase the SNES one and send it to me here in America? I've always preferred the colorful buttons over my purple ones.
I really want the European SNES controller, I have the US one but the gray/purple is kinda boring in comparison
I brought a SNES controller a while back, but sold it on. I get the nostalgic appeal, but realistically the NES and SNES controllers are too small for most adult hands. I found it uncomfortable compared to just using PowerA or Pro Controller.
@Panopticon @Jmjfrank If only these were the same as the wired ones that were available on Club Nintendo and came with the SNES Mini, I would do it. I’ve been waiting years to trade a European variant of that controller for its NA equivalent.
Is there a EU-based My Nintendo Store?
I've got a SNES classic edition it's a shame the controller's for that dont use usb could've just plugged them into my switch
@Zverik Yes.
Wireless nes and snes mini controllers from 8bitdo
My 8bitdo pad is great, but having picked up the JPN version of the SNES pad, it becomes clear that the d-pad as massively inferior on the 8bitdo. They're loose, and still register the occasion unwanted diagonal. In comparison, the official controller has a rock-solid d-pad, exactly the same as the SNES original. Absolute quality.
@1UP_MARIO Is that using their upgrade kits that fit in original shells? I've got that for a dogbone NES controller and it's awesome.
@BulkSlash yes. They really are great
£24.99 seems like a fair price for those NES ones. Sold.
The site keeps refreshing for me, cant order…
I bought them on the last sale... Once I got the SNES controller, the other 2 feel useless. I'd just rather use the SNES to old school. Also disappointing more NES style games and collections don't support the NES controllers.
@BrintaPap I've had that happen several times before, the only way I could get around it was by using a different browser to Chrome i.e. Edge. Very annoying!
@Dogtanian ill try it thanks!
I’ve got a couple of the bluetooth 8bitdo SN30+ controllers (both free with a magazine subscription) but they only work in tabletop mode. Am I missing a trick when the Switch is docked or does it totally disable the bluetooth? I mainly use a wired Power A controller (like the Pro controller but without all the bells and whistles and a tiny fraction of the price) but it would be great to use the Bluetooth controllers for extra players.
@Markiemania95 thanks — but the answer doesn't help. I've googled up american, japanese, and australian stores, but nothing in the EU
@Clyde_Radcliffe I’m thinking you might have enormous hands or something.
@Zverik ??? Google ‘My Nintendo Store EU’. It should be the first result, and it takes you to a page where you choose your language, but the only options are German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese.
@samuelvictor He’s referring to the My Nintendo Store, which I didn’t think you could access from a Switch. Correct me if I’m wrong, though.
@Panopticon I too have always liked the colored buttons, but what I DO prefer for the U.S. controllers is that the Y and X buttons are concave. I don't know why... maybe it's just because it's what I grew up with.
@Nitwit13 Yeah that's true, you've got a point there for sure. I grew up with it too and it would be a little weird to not have Y feel the same.
Got them, love them. Wish Nintendo would restock GameCube controllers for Smash Ultimate though. I picked one up for the Wii U version, but would like a second.
After using the snes one for the last year on any game that doesn't require sticks I had to get a spare. There's simply no d-pad that compares imo.
@BulkSlash every so often an old UKR name crops up and that makes me happy
If anyone likes Super Mario Maker 2, that SNES controller is the best controller on the system for it, the d-pad is far more accurate than the Pro or the 8-bit do (but I've only tried the SN30 from a few years ago, they're probably better by now), at least from my testing. You lose the rumble, but that controller feels like it was made for Mario Maker, and it's less stiff and less laggy than using a real SNES controller with an adapter. It would have been nice if it had a Home button, but it's not really a deal breaker as long as you have another controller nearby.
@Panopticon Something can be done, I bet.
@Gamecuber I dont know what is happening there, 8bitdo controllers are supposed to work docked. Try the following:
1- turn on your switch docked and go to "change controller grip"
2- with the 8bitdo turned off hold Y and press start to turn it on, when it turn on release both buttons
3- if anything shows on screen press the sync button (not all 8bitdo have this button)
4- if the thing still is not working try to update the controller firmware and repeat the above
if it not solve your problem, contact their support. They're very good, and often fix/exchange for free, but there is the shipping cost for china that may or may not be expansive on your region
I would buy these if the Switch actually had a virtual console.
I don't want useless controllers once the service ends or I stop my subscription.
@MrBelmont I’m still fighting the good fight against the evil Sony empire. 😉
@HotGoomba this in a nutshell
SNES oos.
Yes! Finally got a SNES pad, thanks for the heads up.
Ummm, appears to sold out 15 mins later....
AND THEY'RE ALREADY GONE
WOW XD
Nostalgia money grab, with no real value. Every scalper’s dream.
Waiting for the n64 controller. I only want it now as there are ways to make it work with the original n64
Ok Nintendo, you did the Mega Drive a few weeks back, now SNES and NES (even thought i'm pretty sure the NES was always available) so in a few weeks a re-stock the N64 controller please?
@ketrac I would say that about the N64 controller. But the SNES controller is great for 2D platformers and metroidvania games like Hollow Knight. It has a better D-pad than the Pro controller.
How many of these did they make in the latest run? 10? FFS.
Keeping my eyes peeled for N64 pad returning…that would be so useful for Switch Online N64! SNES/NES are close enough to the modern pad layout for me.
Already gone in Italy. I hope scalpers get sick of some incurable disease.
And Nintendo are just *****. I've been an online subscriber for 4 years: just let me preorder one FFS!!
Out of stock. Already. Brilliant storefront, love it.
Note to nintendo: maybe make more than 20 for the next restock? Its not hard.
@teo_o The NES ones are still available but yeah, unfortunately the SNES ones are already gone.
The SNES ones are still showing in stock for me but I can't afford them until next week so I'm not bothering to get my hopes up that they'll still be in stock but then
I'm sure they'll be there for a while, don't worry guys!
...
Oh look! A scalper.
You know I used to get a thank you when submitting a tip Nintendo Life =)
Was showing in stock for me, I went to buy it added it to cart and it wasn’t showing in basket, now I find out they are out of stock yet, waited 3 years now for ONE controller
NES ones have been freely available for a while, just no-one wants them cos they're stoopid controllers that only charge when attached to the device they're meant to work remotely from.
Sold my nes ones cause to be honest they are just a bad idea. Having limited use with a charging system that locks up the main charging method for other joy-con is just daft.
The SNES one is better for a nice nostalgia hit but compared to my new 8 bitdo ultimate controller none of these including the official pro controller really compare.
Still waiting for the N64 controller. These 2 sets of controllers have been restocked so many times that I don't even think there has been much of an issue to get them.
@SwitchplayerJohn
In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.
I'm really glad I managed to get the NES, SNES, N64 and Mega Drive controllers right from the start to avoid all of this stress. I don't envy people trying to get them now with the scalpers at play.
Thank ee sir for giving permission to purchase yer goods,
is most kindly, really tis,
makes the tithe most worthwhile.
If it suit yee sir I'll tend to fields now,
lest the magistrate order the grain to London again.
I still love both controllers really now again when I watch the picture. The controllers are still impressive. Nintendo know how to make controllers still.
Really wish they did better with stock. These are better than any other retro controller (very much including 8bitdo) and it's not even close. The Switch Pro flubbed it but other than that no one does a dpad better than Nintendo.
@Would_you_kindly you may already be aware but if not; you can connect the classic controllers to your Switch using this adapter:
https://shop.8bitdo.com/products/8bitdo-gbros-wireless-adapter-for-nes-snes-sf-c-classic-edition-wii-classic-for-nintendo-switch-gamecube
EDIT: Sorry I just realised that your post is almost 2 years old, sure you've probably worked this out by now!
Weirdly the N64 and Megadrive pad pages are both missing now…does that mean they won’t be restocked at all, or are they about to reappear?
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/en/nintendo-64-controller-for-nintendo-switch-000000000010006981
I read the e-mail stock alert this morning, not realising it was from yesterday no chance of getting this one.
Oddly the Mega Drive and NES ones are still there?
Thank you Nintendo Life. You did a great job with the heads up about this controller.
Oh poo. I would really like one of these controllers but not this time apparently.
Maybe I need to search five times a day every day until the next drop.
This post needs to be updated to notify people that the SNES controllers are out of stock AGAIN!
If there’s more on the way however let us all know as if you’re like me….
…I ONLY WANT ONE!
I finally managed to snatch one in the Netherlands. My payment with creditcard didn't come through multiple times and it wasn't until I switch to PayPal that it finally managed to click. Can't wait to play with it! The SNES was my first Nintendo Console for TV and I'll always cherish it for being the GOAT console
@Pillowpants You will not be disappointed they are great. I have done over 600 hours of snes mario kart and they are still going strong. Enjoy.
