People were talking about this on reddit as well. I personally don't see the problem with it, as you can play by yourself just fine, you don't need a full party. And Minecraft's audience includes kids, so having them play with randoms online without voice chat isn't smart, and I feel like this game would be hard to play without voice chat, with people running off doing their own thing instead of helping.

Me and my youngest brother split the price for a switch at launch and we're the ones who mainly play it. We've been sharing an island, and honestly, I really enjoy it. When I'm not playing he is, and he's adding more things everywhere, making the island feel livelier, and when I get back on, I get to see what new things he added, and vice versa. However, when our brother joined just to try it, that was kind of annoying, as there is now just his tent sitting there taking up space, and he'll probably never play again. So I think sharing an island just depends on who you share it with and how invested they are in the game
